"Of course." I confirm. "Maria has always been a part of Ratatoskr, and Wescott only created Marina to be a sacrificial pawn. I'm not gonna let either of them die."

"Yep." Shido responds with a nod. "Maria's miso soup was pretty well made."
"I have accumulated the recipe data that came with this virtual world." Maria explains. "I would like to believe that my cooking is on par with Shido's."
"That's quite the claim, since Shido's only skill is cooking." Kotori makes a teasing jab at Shido.
I look at Kotori. "Based on my own personal experience, I can confirm that cooking isn't Shido's only skill." I say, vouching for Shido.
"Oh really? Well, I've yet to experience it myself."

"Kotori seems... distressed about her relationship with Shido." Maria notes.
"She'll be fine." Yoshinon brushes it off. "She just needs someone to give her a little push. That's another thing about love. Sometimes it's obvious two people are in love, but they need someone to nudge them in the right direction."
Maria nods, taking in Yoshinon's lesson. "I see. So, sometimes, the help of a third party is needed for love to happen."
"The correct term is a 'third wheel', but yeah, that's about right." I reply.
"Then, since you all are helping me find love with Shido, does that make you the 'third wheel'?" Maria's question is a valid one.
"Not really, since we're pretty much inviting you into the fray." Yoshinon answers for me. "You could say... we're inviting you into the harem."

"I think that's enough discussion for the day." Shido decides to end the conversation now.

"Thinking about it, I'd say Kotori's currently last place when you compare everyone's relationship with Shido. She loves him more than just step-siblings, but just won't allow herself to make the plunge."
Yoshinon's words repeat in my head as I lay down in bed hugging my pillow. I really hate to admit it, but... that puppet's right.

Yoshino explained the situation to me.
Apparently, Maria Arusu is actually Fraxinus' AI MARIA, the one who's been generating those choices for when I interact with Spirits, and the reason she's here is because she trapped herself and Marina, another AI Spirit, into the virtual world. However, doing so blocked her off of most of her memories. All she knows is her duty to help me make the Spirits fall in love with me, which leads in to her search to know what love is.
Meanwhile, Marina is an AI Spirit created by DEM for the sole purpose of hacking into Fraxinus' main computer and taking us all out. However, after defeating her, she suddenly lost control of her powers and I was forced to kill them both before the Fraxinus crashed into the city.
Hearing that left a sour taste in my mouth. Even though it was to save an entire city, the fact that I had to kill Maria and Marina to do it hurts. Especially since, according to Yoshino, Marina is just lost and wants a purpose outside of what was given to her at birth. She even became a better person the more time I spent with her, even managing to upload Maria on my smartphone to keep her around until she could be reuploaded onto Fraxinus.

"I have slightly modified their behavior so they would notice us and compliment us as a couple." She replies. "Was that not the right course of action to take?"
"No, it's fine. Just... let's go without that for the next date, okay?" She accepts my suggestion with a nod and a smile as we continue walking through the shopping area.
"Shido, mind if we go inside this clothing store?" Maria asks as we stop at a particular clothing store.
"Sure, I don't mind." I accept.
We go inside, and Maria goes over to a dress that catches her eye. She grabs it and goes into one of the changing rooms. "I won't take long." She says. "Wait for me."

"It is something I have researched on before, but the feeling of it is new to me." She replies. "Is your world this big and lively, Shido?"
"Well, I've only seen what it's like to live in Tengu City." I answer honestly. "I haven't travelled to far places in the real world. At least... not those outside of Japan." Honestly, the only time I've been outside of Tengu City was the school trip to Arubi Island, and that was still within Japan.
"I see... I hope to witness it first hand."
"I'm sure you will." That may be asking for a lot since Maria is an AI, but who knows? Maybe Yoshino can find a way for her and Marina to interact with the real world?
We eventually reach the end of the shopping area and the sun was beginning to set. "Shido, I believe that I have spent more than enough time." She says with a smile. "Let us finish the date here."
"Okay." I nod. "I hope you had a good time with me today."
"Yes. I learned a little about love and what it's like to have interests in dresses." Well, that's a start. "I hope you will take me on another date again. Do you mind if we go again tomorrow?"

So, that's Marina Arusu, the AI Spirit created by DEM?
Walking up to her, I make myself known. "Hey." I give a simple greeting.
"Ah, so you came here after all." She muses. "As expected, Shido Itsuka."
"Well, since you know my name, can I give you one as well?" I ask, since at this point, Marina doesn't have her own name.
She gives me a amused look. "Hmm, if you wish to give me a name, then lay it on me."
Well, here it goes. "How about... Marina Arusu?"
"Marina... sounds awfully familiar, don't you think?" She points out how it sounds similar to Maria's name.
"You mean, like it's basically Maria with an 'n' added in? Is something wrong with that?"
"Oh, it's nothing." Marina smiles. "I like my new name, so I'll keep it." Whew, that's a relief. "I look forward to seeing how you will help me... and that girl overcome our issue with love. Until next time, farewell, Shido Itsuka." She then fades away in a bright light.
