Hey there,
This was something I just had to write after finding out what's happened in Harvey's life recently. Unfortunately, I can't watch the new episodes with him in them, but thank God for reels—at least I get to see glimpses.
This is a short fic about Harvey being comforted by his son. It's my way of processing everything and expressing what I felt after learning more about what happened.
It had been a hard few days… actually, months. Ever since Marcus was diagnosed with cancer again, Harvey had been traveling between Seattle and Bostonian lost almost every weekend. This time, his brother didn't make it… this time, the cancer won and took the only family he had left.
Of course, he had his other family too—Donna and William, and also Mike and his family—but losing his brother so soon after his mother… the pain was hardly bearable.
Tonight, he returned to Seattle. Donna and William had come back two days earlier, but Harvey had stayed behind as Marcus's children had almost begged him to. He just couldn't say no to them.
They had all been there: Donna, Mike, Rachel, and even Jessica had flown over. Harvey appreciated it more than he could ever express in words, and it reminded him once more that he wasn't alone.
"Hey," Donna greeted him softly, approaching him and placing a kiss on his lips, then hugging him tightly.
"Hey," he whispered back, his voice quiet, barely a sound, trying hard to hold back the tears again.
"You need anything?" she asked, and he shook his head, walking over to the couch.
"Daddy!" William's face lit up as he spotted his father and ran to him. Harvey picked him up and hugged him tight—almost too tight. And again, he couldn't hold back the tears as he thought about the fact that Marcus would never get to do this with his kids ever again.
William pulled back. "Daddy?" he said softly, his expression changing immediately when he saw the tears on Harvey's face.
"You have a headache?" the toddler asked, worried.
Harvey swallowed hard at the concern in his son's face and smiled faintly, though it didn't reach his eyes.
"Yeah, just a bit. But if you give me another kiss, it'll be much better."
Without hesitation, William leaned in and kissed his father's cheek.
"Better?" he asked, his eyes full of hope.
"Yeah, much better. Thank you, buddy."
After William left, Donna sat beside her husband, taking his hand in hers.
"How are the children doing?"
"Not good," he said quietly, his voice barely a whisper.
"They just… they lost him," he said, turning his head toward Donna. "I lost him." He swallowed hard.
"I thought… I thought we would have more time together. Why, Donna? Why him? Why again?" His voice cracked.
"He won twice… he fought so hard…" He stopped as the tears overwhelmed him, and Donna closed the distance between them, wrapping him in her arms.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered, her own tears falling.
She had always loved Marcus. He was unique—his terrible jokes that only he laughed at, his love for teasing Harvey about his teenage years, and the embarrassing stories he shared not just in front of Donna… but also in front of Mike.
But also the Marcus who loved his family. Who always called Donna when he sensed something was off with Harvey—just to check if everything was okay.
"I loved him," Harvey choked out.
"And he loved you," Donna replied, tightening her hug. "He loved you so much."
She pulled back just enough to look into his eyes, cupping his face in her hands.
"The last time I visited him… he asked me to tell you this:
He said, 'Tell him how much I love him… how grateful I am for him and how he saved my life years ago. Tell him I knew what he had done for me with that Forstman guy… but I knew he didn't want me to know, so I kept quiet. And I've been trying ever since to make it up to him.
Also, tell him how proud I was to be able to threaten anyone who annoyed me by saying I had Harvey Specter as my brother—no one wanted to go against him.'"
Harvey let out a soft laugh at the last part. "Idiot," he huffed. "He just used my name." he huffs a laugh and sniffs
"He did," Donna chuckled. "And it worked. He never got sued."
"He knew all along," Harvey said, turning serious again and shaking his head.
"You loved each other. You were both trying to protect the other. And Marcus knew you wouldn't want him to know… wouldn't want him to feel bad."
"But he did."
"Harvey," she said firmly, making him meet her gaze. "He was your brother. He would've done anything for you—just like you did everything for him."
Harvey nodded slightly. "I miss him so much."
"I know," she whispered, hugging him again and placing a kiss on his neck. "I know."
A few minutes later, William approached Donna in the kitchen.
"Mommy, is Daddy crying?" he asked, his voice trembling like only a toddler's could when they see someone they love crying.
"Yeah, honey, he is."
"Is he sick?"
"No, he… Daddy is sad."
"Why?"
Donna took a deep breath, considering what to tell him.
"Because… you know Uncle Marcus was sick, right?" The boy nodded.
"Well… now Uncle Marcus is with Grandma and Grandpa, at the same place Daddy told you they are."
"So Uncle Marcus won't come back?" he asked, tears welling up in his eyes, which brought tears back to Donna's.
"No, honey… he won't."
"But… he didn't say goodbye."
"He couldn't anymore, sweetheart. But…" Donna got up, walked to her bag, and pulled out a stuffed ice bear.
"He bought you this. He said your ice bear—the one daddy got you—needed a friend. Now you have two to comfort you when you're sad."
The boy's face lit up.
"I'm gonna show them to Beary!"
"Maybe you want to see Daddy first? He could use a hug."
The boy nodded eagerly.
He ran into his parents' bedroom and showed Harvey the stuffed bear.
"That was a great idea from Uncle Marcus," Harvey said with a smile.
"Yeah, so the two will never be alone."
"Yeah, right."
"Here." The boy lifted the bear toward Harvey, who looked confused.
"Why are you giving it to me?"
"He should stay with you… until you're happy again."
Harvey's heart clenched. "What—what about you?"
"I have the other one."
"Thank you," Harvey said, overwhelmed, hugging his son tightly again.
"I love you, buddy."
"Love you too, Daddy."
I was so mad when I heard they had killed Marcus. That's why I never like it when familiar characters appear in other TV shows—because you always end up learning something you didn't want to know.
But then I found out that the actor died in real life, and I've been so sad for the past days. I just can't get him out of my head. I just want to find a quiet corner and cry.
We were all hoping for a Darvey baby someday—and now, in a way, we got that closure. Even though I always imagined Harvey being the loving uncle to Mike and Rachel's child and loving them as his own instead and them having a unique bond :)
Have a nice time 3
