Chapter 2

"How's work?" "Not bad. Getting paid to stay in shape. Pretty ideal." He said flexing his biceps, making her giggle. "How's summer? You ready for your senior year?" "Definitely! It's weird though. To think about it being my last year in high school." "Enjoy it. You wouldn't believe how fast that last year will go." He told her, leaning against the counter, taking a drink. "Did you enjoy high school?" "Yeah, it was cool. Probably enjoyed playing football more, but it wasn't bad. Then again, I'm not the brainiac you are when it comes to stuff like that." "What are you talking about Will? Remember, your mom hung your report cards on the fridge. I saw your grades. They were good." He laughed. "Maybe, but not as good as Miss straight A's over here." He answered, bumping her shoulder. "Hey Ginger, they keep begging to get ice cream." Carl said, as he and the two girls walked into the kitchen.

Will looked at Ginger, "Want to do a dairy shack run?" "You sure?" "Yeah. I'm off today, and I told the munchkin we'd do something special." "Pwease Ginger?" Karlie asked, looking at her sister. Ginger laughed seeing her sister's wide eyes. "Alright, just let me grab my bag." She grabbed her purse and they headed out where Carl's best friend Robert 'Hoodsey' Bishop, was walking into the yard. "Carl, I got the new zombie slayers!" "Sweet! Let's check it out!" The two boys ran back inside and Will laughed. "Guess it's just the four of us."

Ginger grabbed her sister's booster seat out of her moms car and put it in Will's car. After they got the two girls in the backseat, Ginger hopped up front and Will got into the drive seat, backing down the driveway, and heading down the road. "You hear from Darren?" "Yeah, he really likes ECSU, although I think that has a lot to do with Miranda going there." She laughed, talking about Darren's girlfriend of two years. "Could be. But, that's a good school. I thought about going there."

He pulled into the fast food parking lot and they got the two girls out of the backseat. "Ginger, I want bewwy." "Alright, Kalie." "What do you want, munchkin?" Will asked Jamie. "Chocolate please." He turned to Ginger, "Mint chip?" "You don't have to pay Will." "Not what I asked." She smiled. "Yes, thank you." He paid, getting the four cones, and they found a booth, letting their sisters enjoy their treats. "What do you say, Kalie?" "Tank you Will." "Thank you." Jamie added. "No problem little munchkins."

"So, if you liked it, why didn't you go?" "Figured I'd take some time before I go. You know, earn some money." "Nothing wrong with that." Will grinned, "You see, that's why you're so awesome Red. You don't judge me or my choices." "Why would I? You're a smart guy Will. And if what you do makes you happy, I'm happy for you. Besides, it's not someone else who has to live with your decisions, it's you. They should be a reflection of you and what you want." He looked at her, smiling. Despite their two year age difference, Will always thought Ginger was much more mature than most of her friends and classmates. She was laid back, but thoughtful and never took anyone for granted.

After they finished their ice cream, they headed back to her house. "Thanks Will. If you want to finish your errands, I can bring Jamie to your apartment in a couple hours." "That'd be awesome. Thanks Red. I appreciate that." He looked at his sister. "Be good ok?" "I will." She climbed up front, hugging her brother, before getting out and waiting with Kalie to go inside. Ginger gave him a final smile, and walked the two girls inside. "Did you bring me something?" Carl asked, as they came in. "Maybe." She said, before showing him a gallon of chocolate malted monkey ice cream. "Sis, you are irreplaceable." "Don't get it on the carpet or mom'll freak." "Duly noted."
