Playtime Co.'s 65th Anniversary Cartoon Music Video
In celebration of Playtime Co's 65th year of running, a cartoon movie special of every toy character performs this song as thanks to the world for keeping their toy production going. This cartoon was made days before the Hour of Joy and aired a day before the event.
Inspired by Applause, Applause from Give a Girl a Break 1953.
The song was first found in The Flea Circus in 1954.
A VHS Tape was heard being inserted into a VHS Player in the darkness. The Doctor's TV turned on to show a screen with the words Play, 0:10:06, and SLP. After it went static, it switched to the Playtime Co. Slogan.
"What's the time?" a woman said.
"Playtime!" said some children.
[Clapping to the beat and dancing to the song for 48 seconds.] [A red curtain appeared before it revealed a Playtime Co-themed with toy packages on each 65 flooring to represent how far Playtime Co went each year. Suddenly, the package opened to reveal every toy that Playtime Co. made, and they clapped to the song. Then, crates came from trap doors. They open up to reveal the cartoon versions of the toys with top hats on, Poppy flowers on their left chests, and holding canes. Soon, they pointed their canes toward the top flooring with Poppy's case. It opened by itself, so Poppy jumped out with a smile as everyone clapped for her.]
Poppy Playtime: Applause! Applause! [She then hops down each stair as she sings.]
We like applause because [She greets her dolls who are crusty to her in respect.]
It means when it is striking us [Poppy then waves toward the Bron and Boxy Boo toy, whom they waved back with their hands and tails.]
The audience is liking us. [The Cat Bees flew above her and formed a heart around Poppy.]
Huggy Wuggy: Our work. [Huggy then picks up Poppy and hands him to Daddy.]
Daddy LongLegs: Demands [Daddy was upside down while hanging on the spider web before giving Poppy to Bron.]
Bron the Dinosaurus: You don't sit on your hands [Poppy was placed on top of Bron's head so she can slide down, and Bron points his tail upward.]
Boxy Boo: And if the hand's tremendous [Boxy goes into his box for Poppy to land on top and then sends her up into the air.]
Poppy Playtime: You send us! [She takes out an umbrella and floats down.]
Kissy Missy: We live [Kissy then came down with a pole on Poppy's right side.]
Mommy LongLegs: We thrive. [Mommy comes down with her web on Poppy's left side.]
Boogie Bot and Bunzo Bunny: To keep us all alive [Boogie and Bunzo appear upside down above the three.]
Candy Cat and Yarnaby: With bravo and bravissimo [Candy and Yarnby appeared on the left.]
Cat-Bee and PJ Pug-a-Pillar: We're dead if it's pianissimo [Then Cat-Bee and PJ appeared on the right before Kissy and Mommy jumped off their pole and web.]
Huggy, Kissy, and Pianosaurus: Our quirk [Kissy ended up in Huggy's arms, who is on Pianosaurus's head.]
Mommy, Daddy, and Baby LongLegs: Is work [Mommy slides to Daddy holding Baby LongLegs.]
Daisy, Rose, and Cosmos: Is work we never shirk [Poppy closed her umbrella so the Flower Trio could catch her.]
Miss Delightful, Doey the Doughman, and Poppy Playtime: In a happy land of tinsel and gauze [They put her down so Miss Delightful and Doey could look down on Poppy with their canes.]
All Playtime Toys: Because we like applause [Everyone opened their arms as they sang. They pointed their canes down toward the Smiling Critters and the Nightmare Critters' shadows in a vertical line. Each time a Critter sang their part, they stepped into a spotlight. A Smiling Critter goes to the right, and a Nightmare Critter goes to the left once they finish their part.]
DogDay: Whether you're a Swiss bell-ringer [DogDay rings a bell.]
Baba Chops: Or a crooner [Baba holds a megaphone and sings into it.]
Icky Licky: or a singer [Icky sings into a microphone.]
Bobby BearHug: Or monologist. [Bobby's top hat grows taller.]
Bubba Bubbphant: ventriloquist. [Bubba uses CatNap as a ventriloquist puppet.]
CatNap: Or what? [Then CatNap jumped out of his hands before Bubba followed.]
Rabie Baby: Or a dog act [Rabie has a DogDay toy jump through a hoop.]
Simon Smoke: or magician [Simon blows fire into his hand so a rose can appear.]
CraftyCorn: Or a musical saw musician [Crafty holds a drawing of the Playtime Musical with Debbie Reynolds and Bob Fosse starring in it.]
Poe: Or an ingenue [Poe has a curly golden wig on, acting innocent.]
Hoppy Hopscotch: Or pianist who is hot [Hoppy is playing on a little piano before hopping away.]
Touille: Whether you play Punchinello [Touille has a Punchinello hat on and is sticking his tongue out to look silly.]
Maggie Mako: Little Eva [Maggie has a Little Eva wig on and shrugs with a smile to act like her.]
KickinChicken: or Othello [Kickin acts cool with an Othello cape on.]
PickyPiggy: Having heard the call [Picky does a calling hand signal.]
Smiling Critters: You give it all you've got. [Her fellow Critters go to her to do a hug.]
Nightmare Critters: And what better reward for a trooper? [The Nightmare Critters then playfully pushed the Smiling Critters back into their place so Poppy could float down from the spotlight.]
Smiling and Nightmare Critters: Than the sound we consider super. [When she got down, the Critters bowed to her in respect. Poppy then twirls her umbrella into a cane and holds it with both hands, and Critters hold theirs the same way.]
All Playtime Toys: Applause! Applause! [Then they and Poppy do heel kicks as they move their left.]
Vociferous applause! [When they reach center stage, everyone does the same as the Flea Circus.]
From orchestra to gallery [Pianosaurus, Yarnaby, and Candy Cat toys played music like in an orchestra. The Wuggies, Mini Huggies, and Flower toys held Playtime Posters from an art gallery.]
Could mean a raise in salary [Bunzo and Swamp-a-mals toys let the money rain down on them.]
Give out! Give in! [Poppy, the Smiling Critters, and the Nightmare Critters danced just like Fifi and her dancers.]
Be noisy, make a din! [The Smiling Critter toys begin to breathe out their scents in their colors.]
The manager he audits [The Nightmare Critter Toys does the same.]
Our plaudits [The Miss Delightful toys present certifications for safety, orphanage, and fun.]
We won renown [The LongLeg toys spelled these words with arms and legs.]
When opening out-of-town [The Doey Dough came scootching over onto the stage.]
In Boston and in Rockaway [It molded into Boston's Red Sox Baseball and Rockaway's Whalemia]
They heard applause a block away! [It then flattens down so Poppy and the Critters could get on it.]
If we come through [The dough lifted them like pillars rising.]
Give credit where it's due [Poppy and Critters twirl their hats on their fingers.]
And obey the theater's unwritten laws [Once they put their hats back on, they spin on their canes.]
Because [Then they start to clap together.]
Because [They turn to Huggy, Daddy, PJ, Yarnaby, Boogie Bot, Bron, Doey, Bunzo, and Pianosaurus, whom they all clap together.]
Because [Next they go to Kissy, Mommy, Candy Cat, CatBee, Daisy, Rose, Cosomos, Baby, and Miss Delight, whom they all clapped along.]
We like applause! [Then everyone came together twice before the stage darkens.]
[20 seconds of clapping and dancing] [A spotlight gets on Poppy to show her without her hat and cane. She begins to twirl her dress before four colors of Doey Dough surround her to form Poppy flowers to impress her. Then they create a staircase for her so she can go up. Another spotlight gets on Bron, who allows Poppy to get on his head. The two pass other characters as they perform without their hats and canes while clapping.]
Huggy, Daddy, PJ, Yarnaby, Boogie Bot, Bron, Doey, Bunzo, and Pianosaurus: Bravo [Boxy Boo claps as he sing with a spot on him.]
Bravo! [Yarnaby appears in the spotlight, his mane longer and shaking around.]
Braaaaaaaavissimo [A spotlight gets on Candy Cat, who spits out gumballs while clapping.]
Bravo [Two spotlights shine on Huggy and Kissy. Huggy held up Kissy like a ballierna while she claps.]
Bravo [Doey the Doughman gets in the spotlight so the Doey Dough formed into miniature forms of himself, so they can swing on his arms while he spins.]
Braaaaaaaavissimo [The Smiling Critters then slide over into their spotlight in alphabetical order and do jazz hands.]
Bravo (Kissy, Mommy, Candy Cat, CatBee, Daisy, Rose, Cosomos, Baby, and Miss Delight: Horray!) [But then the Nightmare Critters shove them aside to steal the spotlight to breakdance spin.]
Bravo (Horray!) [The Smiling Critters returned and tapped their feet in annoyance.]
Braaaaaaaavissimo (Hoooooooorray!) [But the Nightmare Critters nuggies them before they held their hands to get them to dance with them.]
Bravo (Hooray!). [Both Critter Crews smiled while they booty-bumped.]
Bravo (Horray!) [Mommy LongLegs reveals herself in a spotlight.]
Braaaaaaaavissimo (Hoooooooorray!) (Smiling and Nightmare Critters: More!) [She does a cartwheel into Daddy LongLegs's arms.]
Bravo (Horray!) (More!) [Once he puts her down, Baby LongLegs gets in between them so they can group hug.]
