Hello everybody, I'm back with another exiting chapter. please leave a review and please enjoy chapter 7 in PAW Patrol: The Wellerman
Chapter 7
We worked hard all winter on our whales as well as repairing the ship. Eventually February came and we sailed back up to Norway to start whaling. We hunted for about a week and caught nothing.
"See anything yet?" I asked.
"No, these whales are getting smarter you know," Jack said.
"Yeah, it's kind of boring without any action out there on the water," I said resting my head on the wheel.
"Hm, oh hey I've got an idea, hey Pete, sing Valhalla Calling," Jack said.
"Aye that's a fun one," Pete said in his gravelly voice.
Now old Pete was a talented dog. He could play two instruments at the same time. For this song he played the violin with his front paws and the drum with his tail. Slowly Pete started to sing to the rhythm of his drum.
"Ships on vigor of the waves are skimming
Barren summits to the verdant plains
Each horizon is a new beginning
Rise and Reign
Far from the fjords and the ice cold currents
Ravens soar over new frontiers
Songs and sagas of a fate determined
Shields and spears
Vows of favor or the thrill of plunder
Pull together to the for the clan and kin
Clank of hammers and the crash of thunder
Pound within
Oh-ho-oh
The echoes of eternity
Oh-ho-oh
Valhalla calling me
Oh-ho-oh
To pluck the strings of destiny
Oh-ho-oh
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me
I smiled and listened to Pete sing.
Sails a' swaying on the crimson rivers
Blood and glory in the fighting fields
Shields a' shatter into splinter timbers
Iron and steel
Fires are rising and the bells are ringing
Glory take us into Odin's halls
Golden glimmer and the sound of singing
Asgard's call
Oh-ho-oh
The echoes of eternity
Oh-ho-oh
Valhalla calling me
Oh-ho-oh
To pluck the strings of destiny
Oh-ho-oh
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me
By now I let my imagination run wild. I rushed over to the bow of the ship and pretended we were a Viking ship sailing on the waters. I sang along with the final verse
Wind and the waves will carry me
Wind and the waves will set me free
Wind and the waves will carry me
Wind and the waves will set me free
Oh-ho-oh
The echoes of eternity
Oh-ho-oh
Valhalla calling me
Oh-ho-oh
To pluck the strings of destiny
Oh-ho-oh
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me
I sighed with contentment as the song ended, nothing like an old Viking chant to get you going. Slowly we sailed towards the southern tip of Greenland. For 3 weeks we sailed with no whales, until one day…..
"Whale larboard bow," Reef shouted with excitement.
We all rushed to the front of the ship. I got out my sailors spy glass and spotted the creature a little ways off.
"Is she legal captain," Bay asked.
"Oh yeah, it's a blue whale, all paws on deck," I shouted.
We all hustled to get the whale boat ready; until Diego spotted something unusual floating of the starboard side of the ship.
"Capitán, mire a un perro en el agua, a estribor". ("Captain look theirs a dog in the water, starboard side,") Diego said in Spanish.
"What'd he say Jack?" I asked.
"He say's theirs a dog in the water starboard side,"
We all rushed to the side. And sure enough there was a young Australian shepherd pup clinging to a floating piece of sheet metal. She was unconscious and barely hanging on to the metal.
"Captain, what do we do," Bay asked.
I was suddenly tasked with a decision, catch a rare and expensive blue whale, or save a poor pup in the water.
If I've learned anything from my time in the paw patrol, you always help others first. Lower the long boat, bring that poor pup up on deck," I shouted.
I watched as Jack, Bay, Diego, and Antonio rowed out to the floating piece of metal. They lifted the pup up into the boat and then brought her back to the ship.
"She alive," I asked.
"Barely, we need to warm her up fast," Jack said, carrying the pup on his back.
"Captain the whale's gone," Reef shouted.
"Never mind the whale, we'll find another one, our priority right now is caring for this pup. Jack take her to my cabin and wrap her up in some warm blankets," I commanded.
"Aye, captain," Jack said.
"Bay, Skipper, I need some coal for the cook stove to warm her up."
"Yes sir," Responded skipper.
Quickly Jack wrapped the pup up in warm blankets and Bay got a small fire going in the cook stove. I sat and waited for her to wake up. I pulled out my journal and began to write.
Feb 15 2025, we've started whaling season but found a poor Australian shepherd floating in the ice cold water, I'm currently waiting for her to wake up.
At that moment she began to groan in pain from some cuts she received from the sheet metal. I put my journal down and lifted my head towards her. Suddenly her eyes shot open and she gasped for breath!
"Whoa, easy there, easy," I said in a calming tone.
Her eyes quickly fluttered around the room. She started to cough and I slide a bowl of water over to her. She slowly lapped at the water before she spoke.
"Where…. A… am I," she said with a shiver
"You're currently aboard the U.S.S Wellerman, of the coast of Greenland," I said.
"Greenland, did I really drift all that way," She said.
"What's your name sweetheart," I asked.
"uh, Sarah, Sarah Rose Shepherd," Sarah stuttered.
"What happened to you?"
"We were sailing a cargo ship towards new York when we were attacked by pirates," Sarah said.
"Oh, Pirates," I said.
"Uh-huh, but these pirates were different then the other modern pirates. They were all dogs, they sailed on a wooden galleon, and they fought with old style flintlock pistols and pirate cutlasses," Sarah said.
"huh, a wooden galleon, and old style weapons, are you sure?" I said a little skeptical.
"It's not entirely clear in my head, but yeah that's what I remember," Sarah said.
"Hm, what happened to the rest of your crew?"
"The captain, uh Captain Black Fur made our crew load all the valuable cargo onto his ship and then he slit the throats of all my friends and coworkers, leaving only me alive to tell the tale to others," Sarah said with a shiver.
She yawned again and laid her head back on the pillow.
"Well your safe now. You just get some rest okay," I said turning to leave.
"Sir, thank you, and I never got your name?" Sarah asked.
"Your welcome, and my name Zuma, Captain Zuma," I said shutting the door.
"How is she cap," Jack asked.
"Eh, better, I think she'll probably have a little PTSD, she claims her ship was attacked by a canine pirate crew who sailed on a wooden galleon and used old style flintlock and cutlass weapons," I said.
"Do you believe her?"
"That she was attacked by pirates yes, there are still pirates out there, but I don't really believe that they sailed an old style ship and used old style weapons, That seams very unlikely," I said.
"What do we do with her," Bay asked.
"She'll just have to join our crew until we dock somewhere, but for now we let her sleep. She's had some traumatizing events happen to her,"I said.
We sailed on a little more wary of other ships out their on the ocean. Meanwhile Black Fur's infamy grew. He raided and plundered as he wished always leaving one survivor to tell the tale. The rumors and stories about him grew and grew.
Eventually Ryder and the rest of the paw patrol took notice of Black Fur's pirating exploits. Ryder grew worried for me being out their on the open ocean. I was in my cabin when Ryder called to warn me about Black Fur and his pirate crew.
"Hey Ryder dude, how's it going," I said answering my pup pad.
"It's going just fine here in Adventure Bay. But I just wanted to tell you that the pups and I were watching the news and apparently there's been reports of a new pirate on the sea. He's been raiding ships all over the Atlantic and leaving only one survivor to tell the tale," Ryder said.
"Wait a minuet, is his name Captain Black Fur?" I asked.
"Uh yeah according to the news that's his name, how did you know?"
"We found a survivor that claims to have been attacked by him too. What do the stories say about him?" I asked.
"Uh let's see, it says that according to multiple survivor stories his crew is all canine and he sails a wooden galleon, named the Black Paw, as well as fighting with old style flintlocks and cutlasses."
"Now that's interesting because that's almost identical to what our survivor said."
"You just be careful out their Zuma, he sounds like a dangerous dog," Ryder cautioned.
"Okay Ryder, I will, thanks," I said.
And so we continued our journey keeping an eye out for any suspicious wooden ships. Little did I know but Black Fur was hot on our tails with a plan. Black Fur marched up to a small Norwegian pub and sat down in a small table in the corner. He waited until he noticed a young pug enter the pub and walk towards him.
"Excuse me, you Mobby," The pug asked.
"I am you must be Bobby," Black Fur said.
"Aye, its nice to finally meet you in person after all this time," Bobby said.
"Aye, but I don't like to talk in the open like this, follow me," Black Fur said.
Black Fur lead Bobby to a back room in the pub. Inside was a small canine table, with two dog bowls, and a few bottles of Norwegian rum on it. The two dogs sat down and Black Fur filled the bowls with some rum.
"First things first, let me see the mark to know it's really you," Black Fur said.
Bobby and Black Fur put their wrist together. On both of their wrist was the same branding, the pirate's symbol, the skull and crossbones.
"Great, and now that were alone, we can have a proper introduction," I'm Black Fur, Captain of the Black Paw," Black Fur said, Shaking his paws with Bobby.
"And I'm Hacker, Hacker pug, pirate spy and hacker. I understand you have a job for me," Hacker said taking a drink of rum.
"Aye, theirs a dog I want you to spy on and get some information from," Black fur said.
"Name," Hacker said slowly lapping at his rum.
"Zuma Caspian Labrador, I want you to find out everything about him, his home town, his friends, what he likes and dislikes, everything," Black Fur said.
"And what thanks do I get for this mission."
"!00,000 Reales, half now and the rest when the mission is complete," Black Fur said, handing Hacker a pack with 50,000 reales in it.
Hacker giggled with glee, partly because he was half drunk, but more because of how much money he was making.
"Hehehe, oh and how am I to communicate the information to you?" Hacker giggled.
Black Fur handed him an old style pager.
"With this, and I don't care how you get the information as long as you leave Zuma to me and as long as you get what I asked for," Black Fur said.
"Hehehe, oh don't you worry, I'll get that information for you and then Zuma will be all yours," Hacker said with a half drunk laugh.
"Once I've got Zuma's ship, the sea's will be ours," Black Fur said.
"Yo, ho, thieves and beggars," Hacker started.
"Never shall we die," Black Fur said finishing the line.
The two pirates clinked the rum bottles together and then proceeded to get completely drunk. Black Fur was one step closer to stealing the sea's from free sailors. My Adventure had just begun.
Uh-oh Black Fur's got a spy now, what is he planning to do, find out next time on PAW Patrol: The Wellerman
