Part 3

"There we go. One expanded reservation," Kaito declared. "Now let's get that shower. It'll save time if we shower together."

Shinichi had serious doubts about that. But he kept the thought to himself because the thought of Kaito's hot, wet body pressed against his as his alpha's soapy hands roamed his body was making him feel hot and aroused all over again. Blushing, he spent a moment trying to smother himself in the pillows.

HE heard the sound of the shower coming on. Then Kaito poked his head out of the bathroom.

"Water's hot," he announced. "Time to rise and shine~."

"You're supposed to say that in the morning, not late in the evening," Shinichi told him, but he scooted to the edge of the bed nonetheless and stood. His knees wobbled a little, and Kaito was by his side instantly.

"Here, let me help," the magician said, looping an arm around his omega's slim waist.

Shinichi felt he didn't really need the help, but he decided that he didn't actually want to complain about it either. Instead, he leaned happily into the half embrace and let Kaito guide him into the bathroom.

It was, he noted, one of those bathrooms where the shower and tub were separate affairs. Both were sizeable, and one look told him that the tub offered Jacuzzi functions. The shower enclosure was walled in clear glass on the two sides that weren't bathroom walls. The glass was already beginning to mist over with steam.

In minutes, they were both under that hot spray of water. Kaito snagged the soap first, so Shinichi took a moment to just close his eyes and enjoy the moment.

He luxuriated in the feel of the warm water against his bare skin, washing away the world and everything in it except the man standing there in the water with him.

"Would you like me to help you with the soap too?" Kaito murmured into Shinichi's ear, startling him from his reverie.

The omega's throat went dry as a shiver raced up his spine. "I…guess I wouldn't mind," he said, trying to sound nonchalant and probably failing miserably.

The soap provided by this hotel smelled a little like green tea.

Kaito's hands were warm, calloused and strong as they smoothed the soap over Shinichi's skin. Those talented hands combined with the slick and frothy soap soon had Shinichi all but purring.

Kaito crouched and lathered soap down then up his detective's very long legs and remembered how they had felt wrapped around him, holding him close. Down then up, rubbing oh so gently over smooth skin and up creamy thighs still marked by the hickeys Kaito had left. The sight of his marks on his omega's body had Kaito making a low rumble of pleasure in the back of his throat, and he leaned forward to nip and nibble at that tantalizing skin before smoothing over the same spots with his soapy hands.

Shinichi let out what could only be described as a squeak and braced his hands on Kaito's shoulders for support. He had to lock his knees to keep them from giving out as his alpha nudged his legs further apart and continued to work his mouth and hands slowly up Shinichi's thighs.

Shinichi felt something warm and wet that definitely wasn't water trickling between his legs and blushed. The heat was coiling inside him, making the water feel almost cool in comparison.

Kaito straightened, running his hands up the backs of Shinichi's thighs as he did to cup the curves of his omega's buttocks. He gave those delectable handfuls a good massage, and delighted in the way Shinichi pressed up against him and buried his face in the crook of Kaito's neck to try and stifle his pleased little moans.

Unable to resist (not that he was trying very hard—or at all really), Kaito pushed three soapy fingers into Shinichi's still stretched entrance and felt his omega gasp and shudder against him. Shinichi's inner muscles flexed eagerly around his alpha's fingers as they slid deeper into him.

"You know," Kaito murmured into his ear. "I do believe it's time for your next treatment." He pumped his fingers in and out of his omega as he spoke. "Do you think you're ready?"

His fingers crooked.

"God yes," Shinichi gasped. Then his ears caught up to his mouth, and he blushed bright crimson. On the other hand, he was hot and aroused, and he could feel that familiar ache deep down inside demanding his alpha's touch. Kaito's fingers weren't enough.

So since he'd already tossed dignity out the window, Shinichi shifted first to pull Kaito down into a deep, passionate kiss that left them both breathing hard.

"Please KID-sensei," he murmured against Kaito's lips. "I need to feel you come inside me."

If Kaito hadn't already been hard as a rock, that breathless little entreaty would certainly have done the trick. He kissed Shinichi again, hard. Then he directed the omega to hold onto the short, metal support bar set into one of the shower walls.

Shinichi closed his eyes as he felt Kaito move into position behind him. The alpha's strong, calloused hands were on his hips, holding him captive as the tip of his alpha's erect cock pressed teasingly against his entrance. Shinichi held his breath.

Then Kaito had breached the ring of muscle guarding his entrance. The alpha's large cock pushed deep into Shinichi in one swift thrust. The detective's gasp melted into a breathless whimper of pleasure as he felt himself being stretched and filled.

Shinichi clenched reflexively around the intrusion. It was thick and hot, and he wanted more—needed more. He needed Kaito to fuck him hard and fast—to fill him with his alpha's essence—

Shinichi moaned, body aching with the intensity of his own desires.

Kaito leaned over to bite the back of Shinichi's neck. He felt more than heard the omega's sharp intake of breath, and he couldn't help but grin. He delighted in the tremors he could feel running through Shinichi's body and the way the omega's inner muscles spasmed around him, silently asking for more.

And Kaito intended to give him just that and then some.

Kaito's hands were firm on Shinichi's hips, keeping the omega in place as Kaito pulled out of him then thrust back in, swift and deep. Shinichi tossed his head back with a strangled scream, knuckles going white around the support bar.

The feel of Shinichi convulsing under him had Kaito's grip tightening. He pulled out and thrust into Shinichi again, setting a quick, rough rhythm; in, out, in—

Shinichi's breathless cries of pleasure as his alpha's demanding cock drove into him hard again and again and again rebounded from the shower walls, mingling with the sound of the spray.

It was music to Kaito's ears, a song that sang to the primal depths of his soul. This was his mate, his omega, crying out for him, begging for his seed—

Another deep thrust, and Kaito came hard.

The sensation of his alpha's hot essence ejaculating deep inside him sent Shinichi tumbling over the edge with a last, gasping moan of pure ecstasy.

But all too soon, Kaito was pulling out of him. Shinichi let out an involuntary whine at the sudden emptiness.

Chuckling, Kaito gathered the omega to his chest, moving them both more fully under the spray of the shower.

"Don't worry," he said with a lecherous grin as he gave Shinichi's butt a rough squeeze. "We'll continue your treatment after dinner."

Shinichi shivered. Leaning up, he pressed his lips to Kaito's again. "Promise?"

Indigo eyes gleamed. "On my honor."

"Did Ran-san seriously demand you send her photographic evidence that you ate a real dinner?" Kaito asked, amused.

"No, not exactly," Shinichi said, turning faintly pink. This didn't stop him from snapping a few more photos and beginning to send them to Ran. "I just figured this way she's sure, and I have a record to show her that I don't always forget to take care of myself."

"I hope you realize that evidence of one proper dinner won't excuse you the next three or five or ten times you skip out on food for a case." Kaito's tone was joking, but Shinichi could sense the reproach and concern beneath the levity.

Shinichi sighed. "I know that. I am trying. It's just…there isn't always time to think about these sorts of things when I'm in the middle of a case. And if it's between letting the killer get away because we gave him too much time to get rid of evidence and taking time to eat a hearty meal, I can't make myself choose the meal. It's just not me."

"And I suppose anything you ate in such a situation would stick in your throat like wet ash too," Kaito agreed then sighed. "I understand. We all do. We just ask that, when you do have time, you remember that you need to take care of yourself too if you want to be able to continue taking care of other people."

"I know." Shinichi tucked his phone away and picked up his chopsticks. Then he smiled at Kaito. "I'm here, aren't I?"

Kaito smiled back. "That you are."

Watching Shinichi dig into his meal, Kaito realized that, looking back over the last few months, there had definitely been a decrease in the number of completely skipped meals. Shinichi still ate far too little far too often, but there had been improvement. He'd now remembered to at least have a piece of toast or similar with his coffee in the mornings, and he had started keeping a granola bar or two on his person. Remembering Shinichi's concerns before they'd bonded about his suitability as a mate because of his dangerous and unpredictable life, Kaito thought he understood. His detective might not have been overly concerned with his own health, but he did care about his friends and family. And being in a serious relationship had forced him to really think about how his carelessness about his own wellbeing could affect those he cared for. So, for their sake, he was trying to improve his eating habits bit by bit.

The realization had Kaito smiling into his glass of wine.

His dear, sweet, ever responsible omega, always striving not just to do the right things but to understand what those right things truly were.

Shinichi was a jewel among gems. And he was Kaito's.

And Kaito would cherish and protect him for the rest of time.

Back in Kaito's suite later that night, Kaito took the opportunity while Shinichi was taking his turn to brush his teeth to snag the detective's conference program and look inside. He noted the various panels and lectures that the omega had marked with interest. There was one about the building blocks of communication which certainly sounded just like the sort of thing his Shin-chan would be interested in. Shinichi had also put an extra emphatic check mark next to a short lecture on five important things often overlooked by newly mated omegas. Kaito raised an eyebrow at that the noted that there was a corresponding lecture for alphas. He wondered if he should make time to attend it. It seemed only right.

It looked like Shinichi also intended to attend a panel discussing the work-life balance and, oddly enough, a lecture on the truths and falsehoods of common media portraits of alpha and omega behaviors. Honestly, the more Kaito saw of the topics that had drawn his mate's attention, the more apparent it became that Shinichi was really quite concerned about all that he might not know or understand about being in a relationship. If the highlighted events hadn't given it away, the numerous little notes that Shinichi had taken in the margins of the program would have.

It was silly but endearing, Kaito thought, a fond grin tugging at the corners of his lips. All this time and Shinichi was still worried that he might not being doing things right.

"What are you grinning about?"

Kaito looked up from the program to see that Shinichi had emerged from the bathroom. The omega was eyeing him suspiciously, arms folded. Considering he was wearing a T-shirt he'd borrowed from Kaito which was hanging rather loosely off his frame, he looked much more adorable than he did threatening. The fact that Kaito's shirt was all he was wearing only enhanced the image.

Kaito found himself distracted by the hickeys he could see on the omega's neck, collar bones and partially exposed shoulders. Kaito's gaze traveled down the length of his detective's body, admiring those long, bare legs. The borrowed shirt fell halfway down Shinichi's thighs, and Kaito could just make out a few more of his marks peeking oh so tantalizingly out from below the hem.

The alpha wanted to run his hands up under that shirt to expose more of those marks.

Shinichi's eyes narrowed. "What are you up to?"

"Hmm?"

Realizing that the magician was only half listening, Shinichi blew out an exasperated breath and wandered over to the bed. As he drew closer, he realized that he recognized the little booklet Kaito was holding.

"Is that my program?" he asked, startled. Then he remembered that he'd been taking notes in said program and blushed. "Give that back!"

He snatched the booklet from Kaito's lax grip. "Honestly, you should ask before helping yourself to other people's things."

Kaito chuckled. "Thief here, remember?"

Shinichi grumbled something incoherent as he made to march off, fully intent on finding somewhere to stash his program where it wouldn't be so easily accessible to people with sticky fingers. Before he could go anywhere, however, Kaito had snagged the back of his shirt and yanked him backwards. He landed in Kaito's lap with a yelp.

"I love you."

The simple statement stopped Shinichi's muttering cold as his insides turned to warm fluff. He made no move to protest as Kaito gently tugged the program from his grasp and set it on the nightstand.

Exhaling a sigh that was half exasperation and half reluctant amusement, Shinichi shifted so that he could loop his arms around his alpha's middle and tuck his head under Kaito's chin. Kaito's scent filled his senses, and he felt a swell of affection so strong he felt he just might burst from it.

"I love you too," he murmured.

Kaito ran a hand down the curve of Shinichi's spine. The omega let out a happy purr that had Kaito smiling softly. This smile was one very few people ever got to see. It lacked the dangerous edge of his alter ego's infamous grin. Nor did it contain the easy cheer he tended to wear like a default skin in his day to day life as a student and rising star of stage magic. This smile wasn't meant for an audience. It was a smile of pure, deep contentment.

"Shinichi?"

The use of his given name in that serious tone had the omega straightening so he could look into Kaito's face. "Yes?"

Indigo eyes caught and held his gaze.

"You know you have nothing to worry about, right?" Kaito asked gently. "All you have to do is be yourself. You're perfect for me just the way you are."

The pure sincerity and love in his voice had Shinichi's breath catching in his throat. He ducked his head, struggling to get his thumping heart under control and wondering how the magician always knew just what to say to make his insides melt into a puddle of happy goo.

Kaito quirked an eyebrow when Shinichi mumbled something, amused and charmed by how his omega could still be so shy about expressions of affection even after all this time.

"What was that?"

Blushing, Shinichi said more loudly, "I said the same goes for you."

Smile broadening into a grin, Kaito closed what little distance there was between their lips. "Good."

Moaning softly into the kiss, Shinichi shifted so that he was straddling Kaito's lap and wrapped his arms around the alpha's neck. The kiss deepened, becoming significantly more heated.

Kaito's hands squeezed Shinichi's thighs then slid up under the shirt he was wearing to grope his bare bottom. The action caused Shinichi to gasp in pleasure and press himself more firmly against his alpha's body. He could feel Kaito's growing erection pressing against him, and Shinichi instinctively rubbed himself against it.

Kaito's grin morphed into a smirk with a distinctly predatory edge. "As I recall, I have a promise to keep." He rubbed a fingertip teasingly against Shinichi's entrance. "I'd say it's time I got started."

Shinichi wholeheartedly agreed.

Frowning, Ran knocked again on the door to Shinichi's hotel room. As had been the case the first three times she'd knocked, there was no response. The doors in this hotel were pretty heavy and Shinichi could be quite the sound sleeper, but she was pretty sure that, if he was in there, he should have woken up by now.

She fished her phone out of her purse. She'd already called him once on the hotel phone—or tried to at any rate. He hadn't answered. She was starting to really worry. But maybe if she tried his cell…

The phone rang twice. Then someone picked up.

"Hello?"

"Shinichi!" Ran exclaimed, relieved but still puzzled. "I've been knocking on your door for the past five minutes. Didn't you hear me?"

"Oh Ran, good morning," Shinichi said in a bright tone that made Ran's brows crease in further confusion. Her childhood friend was never that cheerful first thing in the morning. Period. But that was definitely Shinichi on the line. What was going on?

"Sorry I didn't hear you knocking," the voice that sounded like Shinichi went on, oblivious to her thoughts. "I'm not actually in my room."

"Then where are you?"

Before Ran could get an answer, another voice that—to her great befuddlement—also sounded like Shinichi but indistinct due to a sudden distance from the phone on the other end of the line sounded out. The muffled words were followed by what sounded like a brief scuffle before Shinichi spoke up again, this time sounding a lot less weirdly cheerful and rather more exasperated and somewhat out of breath.

"S—sorry Ran. What were you saying?"

"I was asking you where you were," the brunette said. "And why you still haven't let me in."

"O—oh, uh, well…" he stammered, sounding much more like himself. "I sort of ran into someone last night and—"

"We decided he should spend the night with me," interjected a male voice Ran recognized.

And that, she thought with sudden amusement, explained a lot—including why she'd gotten a photo from Shinichi last night of what had looked suspiciously like a fancy dinner. She'd thought it unlike him to go to a fancy restaurant on his own. She'd been right.

"Kaito-kun," she greeted him, smiling. "I had no idea you were here. You know Shinichi, you could have just said."

"I was about to," the detective defended himself.

"By the by, Shin-chan will be checking out of his room," Kaito cheerfully informed both his mate and the aspiring counselor. "I'll text you his new room number shortly."

"Shouldn't I get a say in this?" Shinichi asked in the background.

"Nope," the magician all but chirped. "Doctor's orders~."

"Is Shinichi hurt?" Ran asked, suddenly worried again. "Was there a case?"

"What?" Kaito asked then laughed. "Oh, that. No. I was referring to—"

"The conference!" Shinichi cut in with a desperate enthusiasm that had Ran's eyebrows disappearing into her hairline. "It turns out Kai came to attend some of the events too. Anyway, you were looking for me, right? Did you need something?"

"I was going to invite you to join me for breakfast," Ran replied as her brain worked, putting the pieces together and coming to a few obvious conclusions that had her stifling a giggle. "But I think I'll join my classmates instead. I'll see you at the communications panel. You and Kaito-kun have fun."

Smiling to herself at Shinichi's stuttered response, Ran hung up.
