Weiss stared out the window with wide eyes at the cityscape. Houston felt foreign, yet familiar at the same time. It felt weird, it looked so much like Atlas and Vale, and yet, at the same time, didn't. A present reminder she was the first Remnant to set foot on a foreign planet, and wasn't that a strange concept. What made it even more strange was the existence of an organization of superheroes, straight out of Ruby and Jaune's favorite comic books. And the fact that Weiss had just been teleported down to said planet from a space station through something called a zeta-tube.
Apparently, she had been assigned the code, B-04, which was strange to her. The members of the Justice League simply had a number, while Weiss' had a letter beforehand. If she was B-04, who were the other three? Were they, like, support staff, or something else? Maybe they were the sidekicks? Her research had shown that a couple of the Justice League did have their own apprentices, as it were.
"What do you think so far?" Dinah asked, while keeping her eyes on the highway. A car had already been arranged for their use, parked near the mouth of the alleyway where the zeta-tube had been located. If Weiss had been a gambling woman, like Yang, she would've bet good money that the car was from one of Batman or Ollie's contacts. It was pretty obvious that they were both wealthy, the Batman in particular. She knew rich people extremely well, and both of them showed a lot of the subtle mannerisms of a rich upbringing.
"It looks okay." Weiss answered with a grimace. Houston looked rather boring if she was being honest, not at all like Remnant's cities, which had been laid out with defense against the Grimm in mind. The city here seemed to sprawl out, rather than consolidating into a denser core as she was used to seeing, there was likely little Weiss could do in the long run. She couldn't be everywhere at once, which meant she'd have to be strategic with what she did. She couldn't run around, simply beating up muggers, that'd remove a symptom of the problem, and not cure it.
For now, all she could do was settle in and get comfortable until her costume was ready for her final approval. Heh, costume made it sound like she was going to a lame dress up party, like the one Jaune had hosted back at Beacon. She'd only attended that one because Ruby had to physically drag her there, with some help from Yang and Blake. No, this 'costume' would be more similar to a symbol, an extension of herself, rather than cheap angel wings that had been strapped to Weiss' back by a certain scythe wielder while she was being carried to the party by Yang.
"I can't say I've spent a lot of time here, but I have heard from Flash that Houston has excellent food." Dinah chirped as she turned the signal light on, moving into the lane to their right. Dinah wore a red t-shirt with dark jeans instead of her usual outfit, with her loose hair like always. Perched on her nose was a pair of sunglasses, very reminiscent of Yang's aviator's.
Weiss tore her eyes away from the window to give her new friend a glance. Good food did sound nice, especially after the long and busy day that was sure to come. "Food sounds nice."
"Tacos?" Dinah suggested, breaking her concentration for the briefest of seconds to offer Weiss a small smile.
It was hard not to smile back, so Weiss did just so. Tacos sounded like a good lunch choice to her, and she told Dinah as much. "Sure."
They ended up getting tacos from a foodtruck parked at a gas station. After waiting in line for what seemed like the usual crowd, Weiss got her and Dinah's order, while Dinah secured a table for them. Carrying the oddly delicious smelling food over, Weiss placed the foil wrapped food on the table, along with a pair of water bottles. Her black wig hid every trace of her white hair, except her eyebrows, which earned her a strange glance from the cook. She wasn't dyeing her hair, no matter what Batman said. It was one of the few areas she forced him to back down on.
"Smells good." Dinah commented. She graciously picked up her own taco and unwrapped it, causing a considerable amount of steam to rise up as she did so.
Weiss sat across from her, grabbing her own taco. The soft tortilla held a mix of seasoned meat, fresh vegetables, and some kind of creamy sauce. It looked like an open burrito, yet she was uncertain about it. She hesitated for a moment, glancing at Dinah, who was already halfway through her first bite.
"Go on," Dinah encouraged between bites, grinning. "Best way to understand Earth culture is through its food. And trust me, tacos are one of the best parts."
Weiss frowned slightly but took a small bite, her posture stiff as if expecting the food to betray her. The explosion of flavors caught her off guard. The savory meat was perfectly complemented by the fresh vegetables and tangy sauce. It wasn't elegant or refined like the dishes she'd grown up with, but it was good. Comforting, even, in a strange sort of way.
She chewed thoughtfully and swallowed before speaking. "It's better than I expected."
Dinah chuckled. "That's high praise coming from you. Let me guess, Atlas' cuisine is all fancy presentation and tiny portions?"
Weiss smirked, setting the taco down for a moment and took a sip from her water, to cleanse her palate. "Something like that. My father believed in style over substance when it came to entertaining guests. This, however, has both."
Dinah raised her taco in a mock toast. "Welcome to Earth's culinary delights. You'll find plenty of substance here—especially in Houston."
Weiss raised her own taco to mimic the toast, salsa and meat dripping onto the unwrapped aluminum that served as her plate. She took another, larger bite, savoring the delicious flavors mixing in her mouth.
It was a good start so far!
After brunch, wherein Weiss ate a few more of her new favorite food, the two finally made their way to what would be Weiss' new home. It was in a rather gentrified neighborhood in the Heights district, rather close to downtown Houston. The house was modest by Atlas standards, yet charming in its own way. A small, one-story brick structure with white trim and a neatly kept front yard, complete with a picket fence. It looked utterly normal, almost painfully so, which Weiss assumed was the entire point. Anyone looking at it would assume it was just an ordinary house, where Kara Schnee resided.
While Weiss stood back, appreciating her new home, Dinah walked over to a bust of an older looking man with a beard and mustache in the front garden. Dinah bent down and grabbed the head, pulling on it. To Weiss's surprise, the head swung upwards, revealing it was hinged. Underneath, where the neck would be, rested a pair of small keys on a hook, which she picked up, before swinging the head back into place. Giving him an affectionate pat on the head, she strode back towards Weiss, the keys jangling in her hand as she did so.
"Think fast." Dinah threw the keys softly, towards Weiss, who caught them effortlessly in midair. "Welcome to your new home."
And a new life.

Its gonna be a wild ride once Weiss joins the team.
