A Japanese Weresheep in Mutsuba Town

Summary:

There are some forms of alien activity even MIK turns a blind eye to. The truly alien activity between Chupataro and Ohdo Yuhi, for instance.

Chapter 102: Gate to the Abyss

"For real? You're done analyzing the card?"

"We are."

"So, what was inside?" Yuamu rushed Nyandestar and Kawai Teru.

"The card that Kuaidul was researching and developing…"

"That card?"

"A card that can revive the Velgearians that disappeared."

As the kappa said this, the lights in the laboratory blew out.

"Eh?"

"What now?"

When the backup generator kicked in, Kuaidul's recording device was again absent from its glass tube. The robot had been removed, caught in the sasumata of a low-end MIK employee given the choice between menial labour in MIK's mailroom or prison.

"Zaion! What're ya doin'? The key to revivin' the Velgearians is in there!"

"I am well aware of that. But the Velgearians won't be coming back."

"WHAT?" Yudias' heart sank.

"Why?" Yuamu was no less baffled.

"If you want this scrap metal, I'll return it. After I've deleted the data on it."

Incredibly hard to justify preventing an entire race being reborn, especially one that consisted of Yudias' friends and good people.

"You!" Yuhi growled.

"Use your heads. Who's missing from this equation?"

"Excuse me?"

"Why is it that the Velgearians – a race thought to be immortal – suddenly started dying off now?"

Still, no one had an answer.

"It's because he needed them to! Ohdo Yuga!"

"Ohdo Yuga?"

"That can't be!"

"Hey, Zaion! Are you sayin' Yuga would –"

"Ohdo Yuga is closer to this than anyone! He has been killing the Velgearians off one by one, putting Mutsuba Town in such a state of desperation, all of you would be willing to do anything to bring them back!"

"No, that's not…"

"Yuga's not that kinda guy!" Yuhi defended his presumed descendant, but really, he couldn't be sure what Yuga was thinking.

"Then why is he in hiding? Why did he run away? Why didn't he simply tell you how to keep the Velgearians from disappearing?"

"He…"

"The problem is the card Kuaidul was researching. Yuga triggered the Velgearians' self-destruct mechanism, so you'd complete the card for him."

"Purrposterous! Kuaidul was developing the card to save his own skin! If Ohdo Yuga wanted that card made, why would he eliminate Kuaidul, who was creating it?"

"Omnipotent as he seemed, Kuaidul lacked the equipment. He was reduced to stowing away on Yudias and Zuwijo's ships to come to this planet. Mutsuba Heavy Machinery, however, has the resources to create the card. Kuaidul, as the longest living Velgearian, was merely the first casualty once the process began."

"Just what d'ya know 'bout that card?"

"It's a card to wipe the slate clean. A card to undo all that's been done."

"Wait, chupa!" Chupataro pushed ahead of Yuhi. "Zaion, you don't mean it's that card, do you, chupa?"

"Chupataro, you knew about this?"

"Chupa didn't know it was the same card, cabra!"

"WHAT CARD?"

"The card S'btian inherited information on from Ohdo Yuga's drone. For the sake of our future, it mustn't be recreated in this time period."

"Enough with the nyan-sense!" Manabu me-owed. "If you don't hand the robot over quietly, MIK will take it by force!"

"Manabu-chan, your leadership privileges haven't been restored yet after Commander Study. You and Zaion are both at the bottom, in the same department…" Nyandestar reminded him.

"We can't, chupa…"

"Nya?"

"Chupataro! You're sidin' with Zaion?"

"We can't, chupa! With that card's power, Yuga could –!"

"I won't let it fall into the wrong hands. The card with the terrifying power that could end us all!"

"That's far enough!" The doors slid open to reveal…

"Phaser!"

"Tremolo-kun!"

"You aren't going anywhere! Nowhere at all!"

"You fools!"

"Call us what you like, but you aren't taking away the one hope the Velgearians have to be resurrected."

"What, so you can atone for your atrocities as the Commander of MIK? A space dragon's penitence?"

Phaser's expression contorted between his epaulettes.

"Fiend! Niisan is –!"

His older brother stopped him.

"Niisan?"

"Zaion. I will Rush Duel you for the robot."

"Hmhm. Is that providence? Very well. Take your best shot."

The rematch was set.

"Ryugu Phaser!"

"Luxury space furniture store Setsuri's CEO and Ohdo Yuga apostate, Zaion!" Zaion transformed.

"GO RUSH!"

"My turn. Draw! I summon Abysslayer Vodyanoy. I return a Sea Serpent from my hand to the bottom of my Deck to activate its effect, drawing a card! Furthermore, when my Graveyard has no monsters, I can draw another card!"

"Phaser refilled his hand in one go!"

"I release one monster. Abysslayer Makara, Advance Summon! Then I send the top card of my Deck to the Graveyard. If it was a Sea Serpent, I draw!"

"Abyss Poseidra's right piece!"

"I summon Abysslayer Cetus, and release my two monsters to Advance Summon! In partaking of communion with the pale water, it can give birth to either hope or despair. Come forth! Abysslayer Quintiamat!" (Level 7 DARK Sea Serpent/Effect ATK 2500 DEF 0)

"Quintiamat!"

"I return three monsters, including at least one Maximum, from my Graveyard to my Deck to activate Abysslayer Quintiamat's effect! I draw one, and excavate the top five cards of my Deck, adding up to three Level 7 or higher monsters to my hand!"

Three?

"I send Abysslayer Quintiamat to the Graveyard. At the ocean's depth lies a gate, leading to a deeper abyss. When it comes time to be opened, the fate of the Abyss…Maximum Summon! Come forth! Abyssal Sea Dragon Abyss Kraken!" (Level 10 DARK Sea Serpent/Maximum/Effect MAXIMUM ATK 4000)

"Phaser's Maximum!"

"I set a card. By shuffling two cards from my hand into my Deck, I activate the Magic Card, Abyss Thermocline. Abysslayer Cetus and Abysslayer Quintiamat go from my Graveyard to the bottom of my Deck, and I excavate the top seven cards, returning them in any order I wish. Turn end."

Phaser summoned Abyss Kraken, chupa. But…

Zaion stared at Chupataro through his goggles. The pressure they were feeling was identical.

You realize if I don't win, the card Yuga will unleash, Chupataro.

Resurrection of the Dead, chupa.
