There are some forms of alien activity even MIK turns a blind eye to. The truly alien activity between Chupataro and Ohdo Yuhi, for instance.

Chapter 122: Out of Patience

The night was new when Valvelgear returned to Mutsuba Town and the Dark Meister announced her campaign to take Resurrection of the Dead.

Duelists were out in force, but due to the mixed skill levels of those in the streets, the defenders of Mutsuba Town came off as haphazard, even if they had a few heavy-hitters.

Got to get the Mad Gasser on the front lines because he has a killer aura.

Energy Copyko's gonna surprise some people.

George Jersey's our godsend.

Kawai Teru is not stopping a single solitary soul.

Guys, what about Ranran?

Not long after the Dark Meister sent her minions down to begin the invasion, Chupataro was on the playground, sitting by himself at the bottom of the slide, eyes between his robot's feet.

A pair of boots entered his vision.

"Chupataro…Are you all right?"

"Yeah, Chupa's fine."

"Sorry for worryin' ya."

"It's okay. You're home now, chupa."

"Why're you here, when everyone else is –?"

"Chupa didn't want to leave, chupa."

"…"

"Hey, Yuhi…Do you remember when we first met, chupa? Chupa lied about never having heard of Earthdama, you were dressed as a giant yakitori…You and Yudias kept trying your best to catch Chupa. But now it's two years later and we can't return to simpler times anymore, chupa. The we we were before are dead, cabra."

The moon shone through the bars of the jungle gym.

"What do we do now, chupa? Guess there's no point in asking you, cabra. Should Chupa start calling you Darkman Yuhi?"

Yuhi winced.

"Chupa thinks Chupa knows how Yuamu must feel, chupa. 'I'll just fight everyone again. Then I can save Yuga, and save his future.'" Chupataro waffled at the controls. "'Awesome. That's it. Yeah, that's it. Then once I erase my memories, I'll become Otes and the circle will be complete. And in Yuga's time, I'll lose the Duel again. Come back, and do it again…'"

Replace Yuga as Otes. Or perhaps she was Otes from the start.

"'Forget it. Maybe…Everyone is just better off believing the old me is dead.'"

Yuhi laid his head on Chupataro's robot's back, now behind him on the slide.

Chupataro gasped.

"I love you."

"Yuhi?"

"Ya say ya know how Yuamu must feel. I think ya know me a little better than that."

Chupataro knew feisty Yuhi well.

"I'm not switchin' sides 'cause I got a wardrobe change!"

"Yuamu's still the puppet string puller, chupa."

"Ya mean the puppeteer?"

"Chuchuchu, yeah, chupa."

"Chupataro?"

"Chu?"

"I won't ask you anything else, but just tell me one thing. That wish ya wrote at the Tanabata Festival that day…Do ya still want that?"

"No…Not yet…But Chupa's always thought it would be great if we got married, chupa."

The truth they'd avoided acknowledging. Pretended and lied, to themselves, each other, and others about.

What the heck is Chupa saying, chupa?

"Really? Was that you proposin' now?"

"Chu!"

"Then future me will hafta say yes, huh?"

Yuhi… Salt built on the edges of Chupataro's eyes. There's no way Chupa's giving up! Thank you, Yuhi!

They could do anything! Chupataro, Yuhi, and –

"Is Damamu with you, cabra?"

"No, Damamu's with Yudias. Damamu's safer with him. And in case Yudias and the others couldn't get back, I left Damamu so they have a way back to Earth."

"And they say your sister's the smart twin, chupa!"

"Yeah, well, she's currently the evil twin, ain't she?"

"Chupa's digging the new look, by the way, chupa."

Yuhi snorted.

"What, chupa?"

"You're the king of ruining the moment."

"You do realize that while you and Chupa are sitting here, Yuamu is making a hunting game out of picking off our friends, cabra!"

"Yet here you are, away from the action."

"Is this the part where you ask Chupa to step over your corpse and save everyone, chupa?"

"What? No! I'll save Yuamu myself, dumbass!"

"No you won't, chupa."

"Excuse me?"

Chupataro stood his robot up and stretched its arms. "All right! Chupa's got a ton of things to do, chupa!"

By a ton, he really meant one thing. He knew who the enemy was.

Ohdo Yuamu, resolved to bring about her descendant's future! And the legacy of Otes (whoever he was) was the impetus behind her firmness of intent!

"Sa! Yu. Yu are…there!"

It was Sabyuas, Bruyea, and Zeyet.

"Hey, hey, hey, newbie! Shouldn't you be helping us look for Resurrection of the Dead? Osu!"

"Does this being from the light hold a clue? Mama will be overjoyed."

"This one's mine!"

"Yu has claimed this? His prey?"

"No, he's mine! As in, if ya want to get to him, ya gotta go through me first!"

"YAMI?" Sabyuas cried. "This person is…"

"That's right! Chupataro's my Zuwijo!"

"Chupa's your what, cabra?"

"Roll with me on this," Yuhi whispered.

"Step aside, Yuhi."

"Y-Yuamu?"

"Dark Meister!"

"Mama!"

"Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep! THE DARK MEISTER HAS BEAMED DOWN! OSU!"

"I've come for Resurrection of the Dead."

"Resurrection of the Dead? But Asaka hid it somewhere!"

"I've already figured it out. Chupataro has it."

Chupataro calmly produced the card from his sleeve, surprising Yuhi.

"When did you –? Why do you have it?"

"To duel me, I imagine…so Yuhi doesn't have to."

"Chupataro, you…"

"Sorry, Yuhi. You wanted to save Yuamu yourself, but this one's Chupa's!"

"Where didja even find Resurrection of the Dead?"

"Kawai Teru wasn't as stumped where Asaka kept Resurrection of the Dead as she assumed he'd be. Chupa found out from him and stole it, chupa!"

"WHY?"

"Chupa's going to use it, chupa."

"USE IT?"

"If Chupa loses, Yuamu can erase her memories and become Otes."

"And what will you do if you win?" Yuamu wasn't apprehensive she wouldn't get what she wanted, though she was fascinated by his thought process.

"Chupa will make Otes disappear, chupa!"

"Make Otes…disappear?"

"Chupa, Yuhi, Yuamu, Asaka! Chupa will erase Otes from everyone's memories, and Yuamu will go back to her old self, cabra!"

"That's…surprisingly logical. Defeating me is another matter. Dark Meister."

"Chupataro!"

"GO RUSH!"

"GO RUSH, CHUPA!"
