"Anything new, Megure?", Kogoro asked the investigator, his phone on speaker, for everyone to listen, but the Kyogoku family did not come this day, as Minato needed to remain at home with his family for awhile, fearing that his emotions could cause him to lash out at everyone, that was what Haruka told Eisuke.
"We've interrogated the guy Amuro-san, Sera-san, and Jodie-san brought. He knows nothing about Enigma nor the Bloodsport location exactly. However, he lead us to some of his armed men fellows, so we are on the way to arrest them.", Megure explained.
"Ya said exactly, does dat mean he knows somethin'?", Heiji pointed out.
"All he said that the building looks abandoned on the outside… and that they change buildings every two fights, and he has a specific building dedicated for the final fight. His office and the prison he puts the fighters in, are not in the same place of the current buildings.", Megure explained, "He also added that he usually attends the final fight in person."
"Another dead end…", Kazuha sighed heavily, seeing the information practically useless.
"Any information we can get is useful than none.", Agasa pointed out.
"We also found out that the fighters who fought after the introduction match, all of them, are have parents who are police officers and judges. The only one whose parent is a lawyer is Ran-san…", Megure explained.
"We are on the right track then.", Yusaku said, "Megure-Keibu, can you send some police officers to speak with the parents? Try to have them remember what case brought them all together. Also, send us a list of the names of those people. We'll need it.".
"Will do.", Megure said, "I've got to end the call now. I'll call you later, Mouri.", and then he ended the call.
"I was the only lawyer huh… I'll have Kuriyama look in my previous case files… I just need the list of the names, and I'll find something.", Eri said.
The day of the round of 16 fights had arrived, and Ran found herself standing once again in the arena, but with a blank facial expression.
She would be lying if she said she wasn't starting to lose hope, especially after what Enigma did to her and Makoto. He basically showed them that it was useless to fight back, and his words made them almost believe that it is useless to wait for help.
Ran shook her head and readied her fists as she thought, 'Now is not the time to think of this.'.
Her opponent was a tall man wearing red shorts with bandages wrapped around his fists and feet, he had short messy black hair, light complexion, and green eyes.
As he stood in his fighting stance, Ran recalled the schedule she saw in her cell as she thought, 'Inakuni Saizo… Kickboxer… better be careful of that guy.'.
"Here we are ladies & gentlemen! Our famous karateka Mouri Ran versus our famous Kickboxer Inakuni Saizo!", Enigma cried, "FIGHT!".
"Sorry girl, but I'm gonna win this.", Inakuni said as he charged toward Ran, and two exchanged blows while parrying and dodging in defense.
"There is no winner in this, we are all losers here.", Ran replied as he blocked a punch but Inakuni hit her with a front kick into her gut, sending a step back with a grunt, before he performed a spinning reverse kick, his foot colliding with her face.
The kick was so strong to the point that Ran started bleeding from her nose, feeling slightly dizzy, giving Inakuni the chance to to land a rear uppercut before he sent a jab in to her right rib.
Ran let out a cry of pain, before she blocked the next kick with her knee, before she slammed a fist into Inakuni's neck, making him cough hard as he placed his hands around his neck, taking a few steps back.
Ran let out a battle cry as she dashed toward Inakuni before she jumped to an incredible height, and kicked him with both her feet in his chest, swiftly, one at a time, before she landed on both her feet.
Inakuni groaned in pain from the move before he sent a punch that Ran parried, and replied with a jab into the face, making his own nose bleed.
Inakuni let out a battle cry as he jumped to perform a spinning kick, but Ran jumped at the same time, her knee raised, blocking the kick.
Ran then sent her own front kick before she sent one last punch with all of her might in Inakuni's face, knocking him out.
"FINISH HIM!", Enigma cried.
Ran looked at the knocked out Inakuni before she gave him her back, placing her her palms together across her chest. She silently started praying for Inakuni, tears falling down her face once she heard the sound of the electrocution, and the sound of Inakuni's gruesome cries of pain.
It lasted for a couple of minutes before Inakuni finally died, but in Ran's point of view, he had found some rest.
Her, on the other hand, will continue suffering to no end…
Her body started trembling, not out of fear but out of anger, anger toward Enigma and whoever was helping him with this tournament. She was always the kindest of the people around her, always wanting the best for everyone, and always believing that everyone deserved to be saved.
But after was she has been through, and still going through, she no longer thinks everyone deserves a second chance.
She no longer thinks everyone deserves a second chance.
She looked up, trying to search for Enigma, the emotion in her eyes dying out from what she's going through, being replaced by uncontrollable rage whenever she was in the arena.
'I will look for you… I will find you… And I will kill you…'.
"Here we are ladies and gentlemen! Our strong Karateka Kyogoku Makoto will go up against our Capoeira fighter Hagane Sumire.", Enigma cried, "FIGHT!".
Makoto frowned, he was not used to fighting girls other than his sister, and he never fought with any woman throughout his life.
Sumire, who was a woman with a tan complexion, long brown hair tied a ponytail with blue eyes, wearing short sleeved shirt and pants, was moving around on both her feet, which would've looked to anyone who knew nothing about Capoeira that she was dancing.
Makoto raised his fists as he thought grimly, 'I've already indirectly caused the death of my opponents… does it really matter if I hit her or not? I have to do it…'.
Sumire charged toward him and jumped, sending a drop kick toward his chest but he blocked it, and she landed on her hands before she spun with her legs, slamming her right foot into his face, before she got up, and sent a front kick into his chest.
Makoto grunted as he took a step back, feeling pain from both of the hits, 'May look easy to defeat, but it sure ain't…'.
Sumire dashed again, and Makoto was ready to parry or dodge, but Sumire surprised him by standing on her right hand, extending left leg backward before her right extended and slammed into Makoto's face, before she lowered her legs, and tripped him with both her legs, making him fall on his back.
She then gave him her back and jumped high, aiming to land with both of her feet onto his chest, but Makoto rolled out of the way, and tripped her with his leg this time.
He took a few steps back as Sumire jumped back up but Makoto took the chance to jump high, and sent a kick right into her chest with his might.
Sumire was sent flying into the walls of the cage, coughing hard once her back slammed into it, and feeling dizzy from how her head hit the cage.
Makoto took the chance and charged forward. He sent a jab into her abdomen, another in her chest, a rear uppercut, and a final roundhouse kick that sent her to the ground.
Sumire groaned in pain before she looked up at Makoto, who took a few steps back, panting for breath.
She knew she was no longer capable of continuing this fight because the strength of Makoto's hits, so she smiled sadly, accepting her fate.
"At least I did good things in my short life…", She mumbled, making Makoto look at her in pity before she said, "Maybe… if things were different… we could've been friends… you're the best fighter I've ever faced…".
"You're the first Capoeira fighter I face, and I don't think I'll face anyone better than you.", Makoto replied sadly, a small smile on his face.
"I'll see you on the other side then…. After a long time…", Sumire mumbled, tears falling down her face.
"FINISH HER!", Enigma cried.
Since Makoto refused to move, the electric collar around Sumire's neck started, and he looked away once he heard the sound of Electrocution and her gruesome screams.
He then raised his head, trying to find Enigma, a deadly look in his eyes.
'I was never one to want to hurt anyone by any means, let alone kill… But if I see you again, I'll kill you…'.
What usually happened after watching a fight was that everyone would return back to their homes, but that did not happen yet.
Kogoro's phone rang and he answered, "Mouri Kogoro here…", He said in a monotone.
"Use the speaker… and open your wife's phone…", a familiar voice said.
Kogoro frowned before he asked Eri for her phone as he opened the speaker. He opened the phone and noticed that Eri had received a email. He opened the email, and saw a video, and he clicked on it.
The sound of Ran and Makoto's screams echoed from the phone and everyone's eyes widened in horror and disbelief at the sound.
"RAN!", Kogoro, Eri, and Conan chorused.
Kogoro's hand started to tremble from the scene, and the phone fell into Conan's hands, who stared at it.
He was never the kind of person to believe in revenge, and he always believed every criminal should be present in court, but when he saw his love getting tortured like this, hearing her screams…
Conan wanted to kill whoever did this.
Laughter echoed from Kogoro's phone and that was when the latter recognized the voice, "It's you… the announcer… YOU SON OF A-".
"Ah-ah-ah… One word I don't like and I can have my men slit your daughter's throat, although I would be very sad that such a fine girl would be gone without having my time with her…", Enigma replied.
Everyone, particularly the detectives with Yusaku, Yukiko, and Vermouth were taking turns glancing at the video trying to get anything from it, while trying to keep Kazuha and Sonoko from seeing it, but they did get glances at it, and the screams alone were enough to make Sonoko start to cry.
Enigma's words, however, made their eyes harden as they stared at the phone, and Conan had a murderous look on his face, one that could rival the one Kogoro had.
"Why are you doing this?! What do you want?! If it's money then-", Eri nearly screamed in despair but Enigma interrupted her.
"You aren't that smart, Kisaki. Do I look like the kind of guy who requires money?", Enigma scoffed, "Say, Mouri, how come you did not figure everything out?".
"What?", Kogoro seethed.
"Aren't you the amazing sleeping Kogoro? Come on, tell me something you figured out or deduced? Surely, there's something you've noticed oh great detective!", Enigma said in mockery.
Kogoro looked away, clenching his fists. He could do nothing for his daughter, he had not figured something out nor saw something interesting in the video, he couldn't even help the group here by anything. He did think of going into that sleeping mode of his, but he didn't know how.
Was he truly incapable of doing anything?
"Then how did you solve all these cases? Was their a mastermind behind you?", Enigma pushed further, "A shame how you've become a drunk retard womanizer, a fraud detective, and you're daughter is going to die because of it!".
Conan stared at Kogoro and then at his feet. He understood immediately what Enigma was doing, he was trying to tear down Kogoro, and he knew he was going to succeed, because Kogoro was not the one who solved the cases after all, but him.
Those who knew the truth about Sleeping Kogoro shared a worried look before Conan looked at Haibara, but he said nothing.
"Haibara-".
"Do it. If being honest will help you and that old man focus, then do it.", Haibara interrupted before she sighed heavily, "You did it to protect her, but she's in danger anyways.".
Conan remained silent before he mumbled to himself more than anyone, "I guess it's true what they say, you never know what you have until you've lost it.".
His words made Haibara blink before she looked at the Akai family members. She was distancing herself from them whenever they were here, but she can't deny that she longed to know them, to be with the remaining living relatives she had, to be with her family.
"As much as I wish I could continue my talk to you, I've got to go. I need to prepare for next week's fight after all. Stay tuned!", Enigma ended the call with a laughter.
Kogoro let out a cry of anger and desperation as he threw the phone on the couch before he ran his hands through his hair, unable to think of what he should do next.
"We will save her, Occhan.", Conan said in a monotone.
"Shut up will you? You have no idea how I feel! None of you do!", Kogoro screamed, directing the end of his speech at everyone, "I can't do anything… I can't think of anything… I failed Ran… and I tried calling that brat she loves but he won't answer and I don't know why!".
Conan did not give Kogoro the chance to feel guilty nor desperate, because his next words made him perk up and forget about all of his current feelings.
"He is right here, Occhan… He never left…", Conan mumbled as he removed his glasses.
"What is he doing?!", Yukiko hissed.
"Conan-kun.", Yusaku started as he and his wife aimed to stop Conan but Heiji and Haibara raised their hands, stopping them.
"He should've done dat earlier.", Heiji replied seriously.
"His problem, his decision.", Haibara replied in the same manner.
"But…", Yukiko tried to argue but Vermouth placed a hand on her shoulder and shook her head, making the latter stare at her feet.
"What do you mean?", Kogoro asked suspiciously with narrowed eyes.
Eri looked at Conan in the same manner, before it clicked, and her eyes widened in disbelief, "You…".
"I'm Kudou Shinichi…".
