This is mostly just a filler chapter, (sorry!) The story will pick up pace from here.

Chapter 5: Tipping Point

Melody's P.O.V

My mind was still reeling thinking about the bonfire yesterday. I barely slept last night, my brain was racing. I was right about the fact that mom was mad at me. She gave me a very stern talk about missing school. Thank goodness it's finally Friday. I had managed to finalize plans with Ashley and Kayla, I was going to drive down there and meet up with them at 12pm tomorrow. I also made plans with Jacob for tonight, we're gonna work on his rabbit. I don't know why I'm so nervous to see Jacob again, I just am.

Sitting up in bed, I think about the bulky cast attached to my leg, I'd had enough of it. Unfortunately mom told me I couldn't take it off, until the doctor says I can. I didn't see why I couldn't just get it taking off, I hadn't felt any pain in my leg for a few days and I wasn't hobbling anywhere anymore.

Slowly getting up, I looked out of one of the windows next to my bed. The sun is poking slightly through the think clouds covering the sky, hints of pink and orange are dancing on the treetops. Everything is still, except for the soft movements of the leaves rusting in the wind. It'll probably rain later anyway though. Walking over towards my closet, I walk inside and pick out my outfit for the day. I pick light blue jeans and a sage green hoodie that reads 'Animal lover' with a paw print on the front. I pull on black fuzzy socks and white converse. Quickly grabbing my phone off of my bedside table, I head towards the door.

As I walk towards the kitchen, I can hear the sound of pots and pans clattering around; mom must be making breakfast. As I walk into the kitchen I see mom with her long black hair put up into a bun, her dark brown eyes focusing on the bacon she's currently flipping in a pan. I head towards the fridge and grab the milk, before going over to the cupboard and grabbing a glass cup. Then I sit down on one of the white stools around the island.

"Good morning honey. How did you sleep?" Mom asked me.

"Good morning, I slept fine." I didn't say anything else, while I poured myself a glass of milk.

The next few minutes were quiet, except for the soft sizzle of the bacon in the pan. I just sipped on my cup of milk. The silence finally passed, when mom turned off the stove and put the bacon onto a plate with a paper towel on it. She went over to the cupboard and grabbed two plates. Then she grabbed the plate with the bacon on it and came to sit down next to me. Setting the plate down in front of me, she pulled the stool next to me backwards and sat down. I turned and smiled and her, before grabbing a piece of crispy bacon.

Mom's a good cook, she always has been. So the entirety of breakfast was filled with silence as we both nibbled on bacon. Mom also grabbed some microwaveable waffles from the freezer and heated them up. That was our breakfast. I didn't eat to much, I was felling kinda nauseous, mom must have noticed, because she asked me about me.

"Honey, are you feeling ok? You haven't eaten much." She seemed to be concerned, I just shrugged.

"Just a little nauseous." I replied, before finishing my cup of milk and eating the last piece of bacon sitting on my plate. I looked over at the stove, checking the time. 7:36, sighing I pulled my phone out of my pocket and texted Embry.

Melody - Hey Embry :) Can you give me a ride to school today?

I sent the text and bubbles appeared almost immediately, I smiled to myself. Before reading Embry's text.

Embry - Sure, see you in 5 ;)

I put my phone back into my pocket and walked towards the living room. After grabbing my stuff, I called out to mom,

"Mom, I'm riding with Embry today. See you later. Love you!" I heard her let out a soft laugh in response. Meaning she got the message. As I walk towards the door, I can hear the sound of Embry's old truck pulling up front. Nearly ripping the door off its hinges, I head outside. Embry's sitting in the front of his old truck, grinning. I roll my eyes as I walk over to him. It's started to lightly drizzle and the sun has fully disappeared under the clouds.

Opening the passenger side door, I hop in, throwing my bag in the back.

"Ow! What was that for?" I jumped at the voice. I slowly turned around the see… Jacob sitting in the back seat. I could feel the blush creep into my cheeks, I quickly turned back towards the front. I whispered into Embry's ear,

"You never told me he was coming!" I hissed, I had no reason to be so sensitive about it. But I felt embarrassed, mostly because I hit Jacob with my school bag. Embry laughed at my words.

"Must've slipped my mind." He smirked and I rolled my eyes.

The ride to school was quiet, I spend the entire time looking out at the mix of dark browns and greens of the forest. Embry had the radio playing random songs softly in the background, but I paid no mind to the music. I was still feeling sick and even with the chilly February air, I still felt slightly warm. I brushed it off and focused on the blurring colors as it started to rain.

When we pulled up outside the small school, it was already 7:52am. So after grabbing our stuff, we hopped out and heading towards the building. Heavy sheets of rain were falling from the sky and we became soaked instantly. Me, Embry and Jacob all burst into the cafeteria at the same time, finding refuge from the heavily rain inside the small school cafeteria.

After we were safety inside, I went towards my locker. I could tell that someone was following behind me, but chose to ignore them. After reaching my locker, I unlocked it and shoved everything I didn't need for my first few classes inside. At this point I could feel moisture on my face, and it wasn't just water. It was sweat, I felt like I was having a hot flash and groaned feeling nauseous. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up. Jacob was looking at me with a concerned look on his face.

"You ok Mel?" He asked, pulling me into a hug. I shook my head slightly, making it pound painfully.

"You should go home. Come on." He took my hand in his and started to lead me towards where Embry and Quil were standing in the cafeteria. I wanted to protest, but felt too weak to do so. As soon as Embry and Quil saw us, they rushed towards us.

"What happened? Is she ok?" They seemed to say in unison, if I wasn't feeling so sick I would have laughed.

"No, she has a fever." Jacob muttered to them. I took deep breaths to try to deal with the overwhelming feeling of nausea that swept through me. My head was pounding again; like I had a horrible migraine.

"I'll take her home, you guys tell her mom where she is." Embry said, his voice full of authority. All I could do was groan slightly, as Embry took my hands from Jacob's grip and walked towards the doors. I couldn't believe I had to leave again! This was so stupid. Everyone was gonna think I was too scared to come or something, I just pushed the thought down. It wouldn't help anything right now.

I realize this was it, I had reached my tipping point.
