Chapter 646 Hell to Pay

Scarlett was looking forward to finishing work and going home. Jax was getting Korean fried chicken for dinner at Charming's newest restaurant on his way home from work. In two days, they were flying to Hawaii and she could hardly wait. Her father was going to fill in for her at her store and she and Jax had their packing all done. She bought a few clothes for the trip and even convinced Jax that the world would not come to an end if he wore khaki pants, shorts and shirts with collars. She wasn't trying to change him just expand his wardrobe. He had taken it all with surprising good humor. He was even leaving his cut in Charming. They were going to travel as civilians as he put it.

She couldn't remember the last time she'd just gone on an actual vacation. Usually when she went somewhere, she was fleeing her psycho ex. Those terror filled days were behind her and life was good. That scared her. She wasn't use to a nice smooth happy life. She couldn't help wondering when something bad was going to happen, but she tried to push the negativity away. That was all in the past.

So much was going right with her life. She'd told Jax the truth about her past and he'd been supportive and understanding. That was a huge weight off her shoulders. And they were making progress in solving Violet and Louise's murders. She was actually feeling optimistic about them finding the killer. The next step was for her and her father to go through all of Violet's emails and texts and write down all the names she mentioned and match that with Louise's acquaintances. It wasn't foolproof, but it was a good start.

After locking the door to her store, she walked to her van immediately noticing the large manila envelope on her windshield. Instantly her stomach dropped. She glanced at the other vehicles parked along the street and hers was the only one with an envelope on it. That wasn't good. People do not leave happy news in an envelope tucked under a car's windshield wipers.

She grabbed the envelope, unlocked her store's door and went back inside locking the door behind her. Whatever hell this envelope was bringing, she wanted to be safely tucked inside her store when she looked at its contents and not sitting out in the open in her car.

She sat down at her desk and took a deep breath trying to calm herself, but failing. She was certain that something terrible was inside the envelope. After giving some serious thought to tossing the envelope in the trash, she decided she needed to know so she could prepare. Her hands shook as she unfastened the envelope's clasp and pulled out the contents. She spread the pictures out, her face growing pale as she saw photos of Jax with another woman mostly kissing but there was one with them in bed together his SOA tattoo visible. The pictures all had recent dates and judging by Jax's hair style and his appearance, the pictures were in fact recent taken within the last three months. Since he'd been physically limited for the last six weeks, the pictures must have been taken a month or so before his bike crash.

Her eyes filled with tears and she thought of all the painful things she wanted to do to him. She'd been right; her life was going too well. She should have expected something like this to happen. Happiness wasn't meant to last.

She really believed Jax loved her. She'd made it clear if he cheated, they were done. How could he do this to her? The betrayal cut deep because she'd grown to not only love him but to trust him.

Falling in love with Jax had been scary. She'd never been in love before so she was completely unprepared for how bad her heart hurt over Jax's cheating. It was the end for them.

Fifteen minutes later, a composed Scarlett with fire in her eyes drove home. Before the night was out, there was going to be hell to pay.
