Author's Note:
As a longtime fan of the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, I've spent years imagining how the story could have unfolded differently—especially for characters who captured my attention but didn't get the development I felt they deserved. Robb Stark has always fascinated me, particularly in light of the historical parallels with Edward IV—both young rulers whose downfall was tied to love. I never fully connected with the show's version of Talisa, who felt underwritten and lacking in narrative depth. Harwin Strong is another favorite of mine. His quiet honor, so unlike his father's ambition, and the unspoken love he bore for Rhaenyra always stayed with me. And then there are Houses Arryn and Dayne—so steeped in legacy, tragedy, and mystique—that I couldn't resist weaving them into this tale. This story is non-canon and diverges significantly from the original timeline and events. In my version, Alyssa Arryn, the heir to the Eyrie, is 18 years old in 297 AC when she is sent north to marry Robb Stark, who is 17. This alteration helps me explore dynamics and themes that are important to the story I want to tell. While this isn't exactly a slow burn, the romance is complex and conflict-heavy. Alyssa's journey will be marked by internal and external struggles as she is caught between duty, grief, and unexpected affection. The story features OC/OC, OC/Robb Stark, and even some moments with OC and Jon Snow, creating layered and often turbulent relationships that evolve as the narrative progresses.
The story begins
In 297 AC Alyssa Arryn the heir to the Eyrie is being sent north to wed Robb Stark after her great uncle Jon Arryn strips her as her position of heir and breaks off her engagement to Ser Harwin Royce of Runestone. She is sent to Winterfell to marry someone she does not know all while grieving the loss of her station as heir and of the relationship she shared with Harwin which spanned from childhood friendship to love. She is Arryn from her father's side and a Dayne from her mother's.
This is an amateur fanfiction from someone who loves this world deeply and wanted to explore what could have been. If you enjoy character-driven stories, political tension, romantic conflict, and a twist on familiar lore, I hope you'll enjoy this one. Comments, questions, ideas, and critiques are all welcome.
