Chapter 10: Project EV
It's finally complete. After so many sleepless nights, untold amounts of funding, and countless test subjects, I have done it.
I have recreated Project EV! NO! I have surpassed the original!
My former superiors had grossly underestimated the original Project EV's potential in combat and financial gain. However, I'm not surprised. After all, they overlooked my brilliant intellect.
How did Team Rocket expect to take over Kanto, let alone the world, when they fail to notice such an incredible scientist? I mean, their leader was defeated by a ten-year-old child!
It's humiliating that I once worked for such a group. However, I learned much from their failure. I won't fall to some mere child.
Now, what should I do with Project EV? While I know I can get some much-needed funding to start more projects and potentially start my team, I can't deny it was tempting to keep Project EV for myself. However, I suppose I don't need to keep this particular EV. Now that I have figured out the creation process, I can recreate Project EV countless times, so selling it to wealthy parents with a spoiled child would be wiser. No doubt the child would beg their parents to buy EV from me, no matter the price.
I should take photos and videos of Project EV to see potential clients. After that, I'll have some lunch. I think I have some leftover takeout in the fridg-
It has escaped.
The melted metal frame and ruined electric alarm made that clear, showing me how Project EV escaped.
It was a slight oversight not to put Project EV into a more secure containment unit before leaving it alone. Thankfully, this was only a mild annoyance.
No matter how far Project EV tries to escape, it will never truly escape.
{Adam's P.O.V.}
"We're finally out!" Gloria cheered, stretching her arms as wide as she could. "I'm never going to take warmth for granted ever again. I never knew how cold it is inside of a cave."
"If you thought that was cold, you would never survive in the Pearl Clan," Irida said, fanning herself with her hand.
"I have been meaning to ask, but where does the Pearl Clan live?" Marnie asks, hiking up her backpack. "You have never told us much about your clan, and I'm curious about how life was in it."
"There isn't anything much to talk about. Life in the Pearl Clan isn't much better than in the Diamond Clan or Jubilife Village. Some might even say it was worse as we live in the Alabaster Icelands." Irida explains. "Life in Hisui is just difficult in general. Having to worry about wild Pokemon breaking through our defenses and destroying our way of life. Trouble finding stable food sources. And don't get me started about Adaman. I swear, thinking the Almighty Sinnoh created time when it was clear he created space." Irida groans.
"Adaman? Almighty Sinnoh?" Gloria questions, clearly intrigued.
"Adaman is the leader of the Diamond Clan, our rival clan. Like us, they care for five of the ten ancient hero's companions' descendants. However, unlike us, they believe the Almighty Sinnoh, the god who created Hisui and the world, created time, while we of the Pearl Clan know that Almighty Sinnoh created space. As for Adaman himself, the man is just a nuisance. He had one of his wardens spy on one of our Noble Pokemon, despite knowing that neither clan is supposed to interact with the other clan's lords to prevent conflict."
"Wait. You said that your clan lived in the Alabaster Icelands?" Marnie asks, both eyebrows raised.
"Yes. It's a place of both beauty and danger. The morning sun makes the snow-covered fields beautiful. Sadly, there isn't much plant life. Makes gathering food and medicine difficult." as she sighed from the memory.
"And you live there wearing those clothes, right?" Marnie points at Irida's outfit.
"Yes?" Irida said, sounding confused by the question.
"No wonder why you feel so hot all the time! You live in a tundra wearing a summer outfit! The fact that you haven't frozen to death is a miracle!" Marnie shouted.
"It wasn't that cold! Sometimes it was too hot!" Irida looked away, a red hue growing deeper on her face.
"A fucking tundra being too hot?! How warm bodied are you?! If I gave you an ice cube, would it evaporate in your hand?!" Marnie yelled, incredulous at the statement. "Were you a Fire-Type Pokemon in a past life?!"
"I just don't get cold easily, that's all!" Irida shouted back.
"Stop fighting!" Gloria yelled, jumping between the two. "It doesn't matter if Irida gets cold or not! What does matter is we're learning more about Irida's culture!"
Marnie let out a small sigh as she looked at Irida with a sincere apologetic look. "Yeah. Sorry about that, Irida."
"It's okay. Even my clan members commented on my high cold tolerance. I can't tell you how often the wardens asked me how I never fell ill despite dressing lightly in a snow-covered region. I have grown used to such reactions." Irida said, moved on as if the earlier argument never happened. "The only time I ever got angry at someone about my cold tolerance was when Adaman asked if I never felt chilly because I was so hot-headed. At least I know you weren't insulting me."
"Still, I would love to hear more about your clan and maybe about Almighty Sinnoh," Marnie said, widening Irida's eyes before giving a bright smile.
"I would be more than happy too! I'm always happy to spread the word of Almighty Sinnoh."
"While that sounds great. I think today will be a full day for Irida and me." Sonia spoke up. Sonia has been glued to her phone, talking to someone since we discovered the cave mural. "I need to get to Turrfield so I can send these photos and the video of you translating the ancient text to Grandma, and I also need to tell Grandma about Irida and her situation. I also want to get Irida to a doctor and do some clothes and supplies shopping for her. Irida's immune system can't defend itself from common day illnesses flying around, and while her clothes are cute, they earn some looks."
"No offense, Sonia, but would she believe you? We are talking about someone who traveled through time, after all." I state.
"Grandma knows that I wouldn't tell her such a blatant lie. Besides, she's our best option to get Irida some form of identification." Sonia reasons.
"True. If so, can I ask you to take Ogerpon with you? I want her to get a checkup at the Pokecenter for the same reason. And I think the professor would also like to see a Pokemon from the past." I said.
Sonia glances at Ogerpon, who removes her raincoat and boots but still wears the mask and plays with the umbrella. "I can do that. And you're right about my Grandma. She wants to see Ogerpon to see any difference between Pokemon and humans that travel time."
"Thank you, Sonia." I turned to Ogerpon. "Ogerpon, I need you to go with Sonia for a while. I will return with snacks, so please listen to Sonia for me."
Ogerpon saluted, placing the umbrella on her shoulder, looking like a tiny version of the royal palace guards.
"Then I might need to break from the group for a bit," Gloria said. "There's a Pokemon on Route 4 that I want to add to my team."
"Oh? And what Pokemon is that?" I asked. If I remember correctly, Route 4 has some decent Pokemon like Joltik and Electrike.
"Eevee!" Gloria answered, her eyes sparkling.
Oh, yeah. Eevee is on Route 4. I almost forgot because I played Sword, and Eevee had a one-percent encounter rate in that version.
I gave Gloria a nod of approval. "You can never go wrong with a classic. It's a great Pokemon to fill a missing role on your team. Do you need a fast Pokemon that can hit decently hard? Jolteon is an excellent pick because it could use moves like Thunder Wave to paralyze, and its ability to use Volt Absorb would make it a superb pivot partner for Drizzile. However, you can't overlook Espeon because it can hit like a truck. You could double up on water and get a Vaporeon, giving a pivot partner for Growlithe and getting an HP sponge tank. Sylveon is suitable for an anti-dragon team member. Eevee even has a unique Z-Move that raises its stats by two stages, making it an excellent Baton Pass user." I rumble on. "The only real downside to raising an Eevee is figuring out which Eeveelution you want. That's why some trainers have full Eeveelution teams."
"Yes." Gloria agreed, nodding her head. "Not only are they great battlers, but they're cute, making the decision even harder. It's why Eevee and its evolutions are not only popular among trainers. They are also popular among households as pets."
So Gloria, Irida, and Sonia are going off to do their own thing, huh? If that's the case then…
"Hey, Marnie" I turned to the goth girl," Do you have anything planned for today?" I asked, getting a raised brow from the girl.
"No. I considered doing the Turffield's Gym Challenge, but I doubt there are any open slots left, so I thought about going to the Pokemon center to relax." Marnie answered.
"If you want, there has been something I have meant to talk to you about. Would it be alright if I took some of your time?" I asked.
Marnie took a contemplative look before looking back at me and nodding.
"Great. Now that we all know what we're doing for the day, how about we meet at the Pokemon center before nightfall, though I doubt our stuff would take that long." I said.
"I'm okay with that," Sonia said.
"I have no complaints," Irida added.
"Sounds like a plan! See you guys later!" Gloria shouted, running off to Route 4, with Sonia and Irida following her, but at a walking pace, leaving Marnie and I alone.
"So, what is it you wanted to talk about?" Marnie asked.
"It's about Morpeko," I answered, getting the attention of said Pokemon clinging on Marine's shoulder.
"What about him?" Marnie's stare became a tad more stern. Said pokemon in question started to look back and forth between us with a slight worry adorning its little face.
"Look. I'm not going to beat around the bush here and say it. We both know that Morpeko will struggle to keep up with the rest of your team as the Gym Challenge goes on," I answered bluntly. To which the little hamster Pokemon shrunk with depression. Marnie's face then straightens out as her lips thin as she grabs Morpeko and holds it to her chest.
"Morpeko's stats aren't the best out there, with attack and speed being his best stats, and there are Pokemon that hit harder and are faster; some can even do both. Morpeko also doesn't evolve, meaning that his stats won't improve, and he can't benefit from items like Eviolite, which makes Pokemon that are not fully evolved bulkier. And there isn't an item like a Light Ball to give Morpeko either. As things stand, your goal of becoming Champion will become much more difficult if Morpeko is as he is."
Her eyes scrunch in disgust as she grits her teeth at me.
"If you suggest that I get rid of Morpeko, then we have nothing to discuss. While I understand your logic, I refuse to abandon Morpeko." Marnie pulled out three shrunken Pokeballs from her pocket, holding them out to me. "Here's the Pokemon you gave me. If getting them means losing Morpeko, I'd rather give up on them than ever letting Morpeko go."
I raised my palm, giving Marine a small smile. "Don't worry. It's nothing that drastic. All I'm saying is things will be more challenging if you keep Morpeko, but not impossible. However, seeing you stand up for your partner Pokemon is nice, even if that means giving up on something. Not many people are willing to do that."
"Wait. What is this conversation about if this isn't about convincing me to get rid of Morpeko?" Marnie shook at the apparent mistranslation of what she heard.
"I'm stating that if we go the traditional training route, Morpeko will fall behind without question. That's why we are going to do something unconventional. A way for Morpeko to keep up, if not potentially surpass most Pokemon."
"And that is?"
"Candy," I answered, pulling out a massive glass jar filled with candy.
"Candy?" Marnie asked confusedly, tilting her head, which Morpeko mirrored.
"Yes. Candy. Of course, these candies aren't typical candies. These candies are something I gathered while traveling around Kanto. A scientist once asked me to catch some Pokemon and gave me these special candies as payment."
"And what's so special about them?" Marnie asks, leaning closer to the jar in my hand.
"They raise a Pokemon's stats." Marnie's eyes widened at my answer. "We will feed Morpeko these candies and other stat-boosting items, like Protein and Carbos, to improve his stats."
Of course, I'm not sure how well this plan will work, as I don't know how EV and Candies will affect Pokemon here, as these items were only in the games, but if they work, then we could make Morpeko into a Pokemon capable of facing Leon's team without holding the rest of his team back.
There might even be a possibility of no EV or Candy cap, meaning Morpeko could go farther beyond what's possible. But that's a theory for another time.
"However, while stat-boosting is terrific, we shouldn't settle for it alone. We can't change Morpeko's ability as Hunger Switch is his only ability, so Morpeko needs to up his moveset. If we strengthen those two areas, Morpeko's power level should increase. We could use another method to enhance Morpeko's electric power, both in production and strength. Still, the process is risky, so we should avoid that method unless necessary." I explained.
"Okay. So what moves are you teaching Morpeko?"
"The moves I'm going to teach Morpeko are unique. Honestly, the only Pokemon I know that can master these moves is my partner from that journey." I said, pulling out a certain Pokeball from my box, which immediately popped open, releasing a stream of white energy.
"Vee!" The little Eevee cheered, shaking her fur before quickly climbing my shoulder and rubbing her cheek against my face.
"Marnie, Morpeko, say hello to VV, the Eevee." I introduced my little one to them.
"I thought you didn't nickname your Pokemon," Marnie commented.
"And I typically don't, but VV is different, like how she can't evolve even if you shove an evolution stone in her face," I explain. In truth, it was because I was doing a nuzlocke of Let's Go Eevee, and I simply followed the nickname clause of the rules. "But I'm getting off topic. These moves are pretty powerful and valuable. One of them is a Fire-Type move that hits pretty hard and always burns the opponent if it lands. It is the same with an Electric-Type move that always paralyzes. A Dark and Psychic-Type that deals with damage and sets up Reflect and Light Screen, respectively. I could go on, but I think you get the point." I said.
"Yeah. It would be fantastic if Morpeko could learn those moves, but can he? Like you said, your Eevee is the only Pokemon you know that could use those moves." Marnie pointed out.
"We will never know until we try. But with enough hard work and training, Morpeko will be using Baddy Bad and Slizzly Slide before we know it," I said confidently.
"Can you repeat that? I could have sworn you said one of those moves is called Baddy Bad." Marnie asks, a slight hint of dread in her voice.
"It is. Glitzy Glow is better for VV since it covers her weakness against Fighting-Types, but Baddy Bad should do wonders for Morpeko since he gets stab."
Marnie grabs her head, her face expressing a look of complete despair. "I thought Z-Move dances were terrible enough, but now this? How am I supposed to fight a Gym Leader in front of a stadium full of people and say Baddy Bad? No. It won't be only the people in the stadium. The Gym Challenge battles will be on live television. People across Galar will hear me say Baddy Bad and Glitzy Glow. I expected to struggle in the Gym Challenge, but not like this."
"Does that mean you don't want to learn the moves?" not really understanding her moral dilemma about this. They may sound childish but if they work, then I would gladly shout this to the whole region if it could give me an edge over my opponent.
"Yes. I mean, no. I want to learn the moves. I'm just saying the names are a little embarrassing. Of all the possible attack names the inventor of the move could use, why did they choose Baddy Bad?" Marnie sighs, her cheeks a little red.
"I get that. I was in your shoes when I was your age. Besides, think of it like this: every Champion didn't get where they're now without making some sacrifices. Like Leon, for example, the man can't exactly walk to the market without causing a flash mob. His fame no doubt makes forming and maintaining romantic and platonic relationships difficult. And when people try becoming friends with him, he's probably questioning whether they want to be his friend or the friend of the undefeated Champion." I said. It's one of the many reasons I am not interested in becoming a Champion.
"I see."
"Let me tell you a saying from one of the Johto Elite Four members. Strong Pokemon. Weak Pokemon. That's only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers win with their favorites." I said. "While I do believe there are some Pokemon that are better than others, I do agree those words hold some merit. Nothing feels better than winning a hard battle with a Pokemon you love. I love Clodsire and use him despite having access to better Ground and Poison-Type Pokemon." I said.
"Winning with your favorite, huh? I think I can get behind on that." Marnie said with a barely noticeable smile.
"How about we leave Morpeko and VV here and let them get to know each other better? I want to show you some TMs and TRs we can teach the rest of your team," I offered, and Marnie accepted.
"I hope those two get along well," Marnie said as we walked away from the two Pokemon.
"Don't worry. I'm betting by the time we get back, those two will be best friends."
{Morpeko's P.O.V.}
I glance at the Eevee next to me. Despite being almost the same height, I can feel the power rolling off the pretty Pokemon. If I'm going to have a teacher, I would rather have it be a cute female Pokemon instead of one of Adam's scary Pokemon. At least she looks friendly enough.
"What are you looking at, Ass Eyes?" VV hissed at me the moment they were out of sight.
W-what? He could've just been hearing things but-
"Can't you hear me? Or is the only language you know is lunch? It seems that way with that gut of yours." VV jabs her paw at my belly.
He wasn't hearing things!?
"I-I have a high metabolism. I need the calories or people won't like me hungry." I weakly argue.
"Now you are back talking to me?!" VV yells, slamming her nose against mine. "I'm betting you want me gone! I'm betting you're planning my demise right now! You must be planning on slitting my throat while I sleep!"
"No!" I screamed. What's with this Eevee?! Why is the first cute Pokemon Adam brought out crazy?!
"No, what?!"
"No, sir!"
"I'm a sir?!" Aw crap! "I didn't realize I have a fucking cock and balls between my legs!" I tried to stumble out an apology, but the words wouldn't form. "How about I do a favor as thanks for telling me?! I'm going to help you make room for dinner! Drop and give me fifty sit-ups! Right Now!"
I freeze in fear, shaking as the order has yet to realize in my head.
"I said RIGHT NOW!"
It finally catches up to my mind, so I immediately drop to the ground and start doing sit-ups.
Eevee walks back and forth, keeping an eye on my form. "Even though my master looks different from how I remembered him, I know that Adam is my master, and my master wants me to turn you from a tub of lard to a Champion class Pokemon." What is this Eevee talking about?! "Wait! What is your count?"
"Twenty?" I answered, feeling a chill despite sweating a storm.
"I never heard twenty come out from your fat mouth! I didn't hear any numbers come out of you! Are you trying to trick me?!" VV snarled, revealing her small but sharp fangs.
"No! I was keeping count in my head!" I yelled.
"In your head?! Do I look like a Psychic-Type to you?!"
"No, you're not!" I realized I messed up when VV's angry expression twisted into a savage smile.
"You're right. I'm not a Psychic-Type. I'm a Normal-Type, meaning I can't read your mind. So, I'm going to start over and do it properly." VV said, sickly sweet. "Now, let me see that belly roll! One Jelly Belly! Two Jelly Belly!"
Marnie! Come back! Save me from this psycho!
"Where is your count?! Damn it! I lost count! I guess we have to start over again!" VV yells, ignoring my whimpers.
Is it too late to ask Marnie to send me back home?
{Gloria's P.O.V.}
Man. I know that Eevees are rare, but I didn't think I would have this much trouble finding one. I encountered a couple of Pokemon and trainers and even battled a few of them, but still no signs of Eevees. Thankfully, I'm not worried about time, but at this rate, I will probably explore the entirety of Route 4 before encountering one Eevee.
I should take a break for now. Let's just hope that my luck gets better after a snack.
Route 4 has many rocks and tree stumps suitable for sitting, and after the cave trip, a little snack break in the sun sounds nice. Though, it may be better to sit in the shade. Just because the weather is getting more autumn-like, it doesn't mean I still can't get a sunburn.
After finding a decent resting spot, I sat on a stone fence, using the tree's shadow nearby to block the sun. I reached into my bag and pulled out one of the chocolate bars Adam keeps in his RV. Thinking back on those candies. I've never heard of these brands before, but I'm assuming that's because they are candies from other regions. I mean, I'm not complaining. These chocolate and peanut butter ones are delicious.
However, just as I was about to bite, I noticed a small set of fresh tracks on the edge of the stone wall. These tracks are too small for a Pokemon like Meowth, Pikachu, or Yamper. Pumpkaboo doesn't have paws, so that's out. It's the same for Wooloo, Joltik, and Budew. The rest of the Pokemon on Route 4 doesn't have tracks that would match besides two Pokemon. One is Electrike, and after following enough Electrike tracks in the hopes they belonged to an Eevee, I know these tracks are too narrow. Meaning they could only belong to one Pokemon.
"My luck is finally changing!" I shouted, jumping off the stone fence and following the tracks. It was easy because most of Route 4 was farmland, and most of it seemed to have recently been watered, making mud tracks easily visible for me to follow.
After jumping over another stone fence, lowering myself to a crouch, and hiding in some crop stocks, I found my next team member lapping water from a small puddle.
I need to move it closer to me. If I throw out one of my Pokemon now, there is a good chance that Eevee will be spooked and run away.
It's a good thing I have the perfect bait.
I broke off a small piece of the candy bar, tossing it towards Eevee but making sure the piece wouldn't fall too close to my hiding spot. Eevee must have smelt the peanut butter since its adorable little nose started to twitch, turning towards the source of the scent.
That's right. Walk towards the yummy smell. Just a little bit closer.
Now!
"Go, Ferroseed! Use Leech Seed!" I shout as my tiny seed Pokemon pops out of his Pokeball, firing multiple tiny seeds at Eevee. Eevee did manage to dodge most of the seeds, but not all of them, as the seeds that landed on Eevee's body quickly opened up, spawning tiny vines to wrap around Eevee.
A red energy covers Eevee's body, and Eevee lets out a small groan. Since I don't want to knock out Eevee, Leech Seed is the perfect move because it drains Eevee's energy, heals Ferroseed, and binds Eevee, making it harder to move.
I pulled out the first Pokeball from my pocket, readying to throw. While Eevee has a low capture rate, thankfully, I have a decent number of Pokeballs thanks to my parents, and Sonia gifted me some before I started my journey.
I toss the first of many failed balls. However, when the Pokeball hits Eevee's forehead, its red energy immediately shatters the moment it covers Eevee's body.
"What?!" What just happened?! The Pokeball should have absorbed Eevee for the attempted capture! The only reason a Pokeball failed to capture Eevee is if Eevee was someone's Pokemon, but this Eevee is a wild Pokemon, isn't it?!
The tiny vines wrapped around Eevee's body snapped, and Eevee launched an Ember attack at Ferroseed.
Wait. Ember?! Can Eevees even learn Ember?!
"Roll out of the way!" However, my seedy boi wasn't a speedy boi as the embers hit Ferroseed, and the Grass/Steel Pokemon let out a painful grunt.
Calm Down, Gloria. If Eevee knows a fire move, use water!
"Ferroseed, Return! Go, Drizzile!" The moody Pokemon lets out an annoyed sigh, telling me that he doesn't want to be here. "Drizzile! Use Water Pulse!"
Thankfully, Drizzile didn't ignore me and threw a sphere of water, but Eevee, the nimble Pokemon it managed to dodge, glared at Drizzile with its green eyes.
Wait. Green eyes? Weren't Eevee's eyes brown?
Eevee jumped up and swung his tail, firing several fast-moving projectiles at Drizzile, causing Drizzile to scream out and pass out.
"Drizzile!" I quickly recalled the downed Pokemon, noticing what Eevee launched at Drizzile-several small, razor-sharp leaves.
First Ember, and now Razor Leaf?! How can this Eevee know these moves?!
"Come out, Growlithe!" the puppy Pokemon snarled at the Eevee, who returned a snarl in kind. Growlithe should be able to handle this strange Eevee's attacks with him being a Fire-Type. "Growlithe! Use Flame Wheel!"
Growlithe breathed out fire, wrapped himself in it, and turned it into a flaming ball. The spinning flame ball chased the fleeing Pokemon and burned some crop stocks. However, Eevee keeps making sharp turns, preventing Growlithe from picking up more speed to catch up with the blue Pokemon.
Oh no, not again!
Eevee rolls out of the way from Growlithe's Flame Wheel, firing a powerful stream of water from his mouth, hitting Growlithe from behind, putting out the fire and causing Growlithe to slam his head against a large rock due to the forward momentum. I returned Growlithe to his ball, realizing that none of my Pokemon could battle it without getting seriously hurt.
Ember, Razor Leaf, and Water Gun. I'm sure that Eevee couldn't learn those moves. But it is. How is Eevee able to use those moves? I remember my parents telling me about Pokemon being able to learn moves that their parents know, but I doubt that is the answer.
Then there is the question of why my Pokeball failed. If it failed, does that mean this Eevee is a trainer's Pokemon? If so, then where is its trainer? If Eevee wandered off without its trainer's knowledge, I'm positive I would be hearing someone calling out for it by now. Could it be a Pokemon that ran away? Even if that were the case, it wouldn't explain how Eevee could use moves it usually couldn't learn.
The Eevee fired a lightning bolt at my feet, causing me to yelp and jump back. The Jolteon began to growl at me. Its pointed fur spiked up in aggregation.
Jolteon? I looked at the Pokemon again, hoping that my eyes were playing tricks on me, but they weren't. The Eevee became a Jolteon.
But that's impossible! Eevee needs a Thunder Stone to evolve into a Jolteon, and there was one anywhere during our battle!
The Jolteon's fur darkens, turning as black as night. Golden rings and bands surround its body, and its eyes turn red.
"Umbreon," I mutter out.
How? How was this possible? Eevee is using moves that its species shouldn't be capable of learning. An Eevee evolving into a Jolteon without a Thunder Stone. A Jolteon turning into an Umbreon.
Umbreon let out a snarl, sending out several black soundwaves from its muzzle, targeting me. Thankfully, I managed to jump out of the attack's way.
But the Umbreon didn't let up, changing into a Glaceon, firing snow from its mouth, then to Espeon, unleashing a psychic wave from its forehead gem, and finally into Sylveon, letting out a pink soundwave.
The attacks didn't hit me; instead, the attacks hit rocks or the ground next to me. However, I think it was because Eevee, who turned back into an Eevee after the attacks, wasn't aiming to hurt me. But the message was clear. If it wanted to hurt me, it could've.
And I know better than to push my luck. I guess I'm using that running away strategy taught me now.
But as I flee from the small farmland and run into Turffield, my mind turns back to the Eevee.
Something strange must have happened to it to change evolutions like that. And I know whatever the answer was, it must've been far from pleasant.
{Sonia's P.O.V.}
"Hey, guys. Did we keep you waiting long?" Adam asks us, taking a seat at our table.
"No. We just finished talking to my grandma not too long ago." I said. "We are just waiting for Nurse Joy to finish giving Ogerpon her checkup, but I'm betting it will take some time since Ogerpon is a foreign Pokemon to just about anyone outside our group. However, I doubt the time travel affected her body since the doctors said Irida is perfectly healthy."
"I see. So what is the word from the professor? Also, nice clothes, Irida. They look great on you." Adam compliments the blonde girl.
Irida has changed out of her original outfit and is now wearing a pink, long-sleeved hoodie, but the bottom of the hoodie cuts off slightly below Irida's chest, leaving her stomach exposed, and a pair of white shorts, but she still wears her headband.
"Thank you very much, Adam. I must admit that I was taken aback by how many different outfits there were. And in so many colors and with such soft materials. I'm positive an outfit like this would cost a person's weight in gold in my time." Irida said.
"As for what grandma said, she wants to meet Irida and Ogerpon in person. Not that I can blame her. Despite retiring soon, Grandma is still a Pokemon Professor, and if you offer her a chance to interview someone from the past, she will take it."
I shake my head at the thought despite living proof right in front of me. "I know, I would." I said. "So, how is everything on your end?"
"It went fine. Morpeko is making more progress than I initially thought. The little guy is one hard worker. I can give him that." Adam said. "He was even close to mastering a move that would help him beat Milo's team."
"Morpeko isn't as hyper as usual, but he's probably tired from all his training today." Marnie comments, lightly poking the exhausted Pokemon.
"What kind of move are you teaching him?" I had never raised a Morpeko as a trainer, so I had no idea what kind of move the two wanted to teach it.
"You will have to wait until the Marnie's Gym Battle," Adam smirked as Marnie's cheeks reddened.
I raised a brow at Marnie's expression. Did something happen while Irida and I were away?
"ADAM!" Gloria screamed, running straight towards us. "Adam! Youwon'tbelieveme, butIencounteredthisstrangeEeveeand-!" I barely managed to understand Gloria because of how fast she was talking. It was barely a few hours. What happened to her when we separated?
"Gloria, calm down." getting up to hold my hand over her shoulders. "Take a deep breath, then tell us what happened."
Gloria did as so before recounting her tale. "When I looked for an Eevee for my team, I found one! But this one is weird! It can use moves like Ember, Razor Leaf, and Water Gun! But the crazy thing is it changes into one of its evolutions! It changes from a Jolteon to an Umbreon before my eyes! It also turned into a Sylveon, Espeon, and Glaceon before returning to an Eevee!"
What?
"Gloria, do you realize what you are saying?" she had to have been mistaken."Pokemon can't change back to their pre-evolved form. You must have seen maybe a ditto instead that just got away from an Eevee trainer and it was fresh in its mind." While incredibly unlikely, it is more likely than a Pokemon that can change between evolutions. However, the look on her face says otherwise. Gloria isn't a liar, but what she's saying is impossible.
