ESPRIT DE CORPS:Patrol Officer Judit Minot kneels on the ground, tears falling freely down her cheeks as she clutches the payphone to her ear with both hands. Satellite Officer Jean Vicquemare is on one knee next to her, his arm around her shoulders.

"He's really okay? You're sure?" she says, glancing over at Vicquemare. Vicquemare smiles, a rare expression on his usually dour features, and gives Judit a little congratulatory shake.

On the other end of the line, Communications Officer Jules "Oldboy" Pidieu sits in his usual chair, speaking into the radio mouthpiece. His manner is more subdued, but one corner of his mouth lifts. He doesn't often deliver good news over the radio. "He has a concussion, two broken ribs, and a sprained knee. He is a little confused, but Gottlieb thinks he will recover fully. Gottlieb will want him to stay the night here, for observation."

"Thank you, Jules. And thank Kim for me."

Pidieu looks up at Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi, who stands next to Pidieu's desk with his hands behind his back.

"She says thank you," Pidieu says.

"No thanks necessary," replies Kitsuragi, pushing his glasses up his nose. "I didn't actually do anything."
