OMG Yay, My first fic in forever! I've been so swamped and I'm so glad to get back into writing. This is my first H2O fic, and is kinda a warm up for me. Please leave kudos and comments, I so appreciate this. I plan on posting one more fic this week, Cleo and Lewis centric, before jumping into what I'm calling...(dun dun dun) ZIKKI MONTH! Every day in the month of May, I'll be posting one Zikki songfic, because we love them and season 3 isn't canon. Essentially, one of my I-am-obsessed-with-h2o-even-tho-it-ended-before-i-was-born friends decided to make me do this. So I'm doing it. Cause Rikki is our badass mermaid queen and Zane is her king with the beautiful character arc.
Anyways, enjoy!
When Emma falls in love, she paces the floor, closes the blinds and locks the door.
"Ash! What're you doing here?"
Ash looked up from the table, a proud smile on his face. "I thought I'd be bold."
Emma tried not to let the dread show on her face as she forced a smile back. "Ash, you really need to go." Her heart sank when his face fell, but what could she do? Tonight was a full moon. They couldn't risk getting moonstruck.
When Emma falls in love, she calls up her mom, jokes about the ways that this one could go wrong.
"Yeah, Elliot's doing great, mum. The instructor's a lot younger than I thought, though." Emma let out a breath as she watched her little brother on his horse. "Yeah, I know mum. I'm watching him, don't worry. I'll see you at home."
"Emma! Look, I'm riding just like you!" Elliot's excited little voice rang out across the field and she couldn't help smiling…until her eye caught the gaze of the 18 year old who was currently teaching her brother.
She waits and takes her time, cause little miss Sunshine always thinks it's gonna rain.
"What's with the whole Ash thing?" Rikki asked as she and Cleo followed Emma into the cool room.
"There's no Ash thing. If there was, I would tell you. There's no Ash thing. Trust me." Emma replied as she began to take off her uniform.
Rikki scoffed. "He asked you out. Why didn't you suggest something?"
Emma gave her a look. "It's never gonna happen between me and Ash. I'm a mermaid. Kinda kills your social life," she said dryly and she leaned over to pick up her bag.
"Zane knows I'm a mermaid. Works for us."
" You're not suggesting I tell him? That's the craziest thing I ever heard."
When Emma falls in love I know, that boy will never be the same.
Emma took deep breaths to calm her racing heart. She grounded herself with Ash's warm familiar hand in her own as they walked to a deserted shore on the beach. She finally released his hand and stepped towards the ocean, but turned around at the last second and kissed his cheek. His surprised laugh gave her the tiniest bit of confidence as she dove into the sea, her tail forming behind her. She surfaced to see the dumbfounded smile that was slowly spreading over the face of the boy she loved and grinned at Rikki and Cleo, who were standing with Zane and Lewis. Maybe things would work out after all.
Cause she's the kinda book that you can't put down. Like if Cleopatra grew up in a small town.
"Alright guys. We've got some changes to the menu. Like, Banana Beatbox. That's out." Ash passed out laminated copies of the menu.
Emma froze in her seat. "Banana Beatbox? It took me forever to get that recipe right!"
"It wasn't selling."
"I put a lot of work into that!"
Ash smiled amusedly. "You really feel strongly about this, huh?" When Emma nodded, he grinned. "Too bad. It wasn't selling."
And all the bad boys would be good boys if they only had a chance to love her. And to tell you the truth, sometimes I wish I was her.
Ash sighed and admitted, "I'm sorry. I was wrong to accuse you like that. It was Amber anyways."
Emma glared at him. "You sure were. Is that it?"
"Please come back. I'm sorry."
"Maybe I don't wanna come back."
"Please?" He rolled his eyes and said, "You're our best employee." When Emma raised her eyebrows at him, unimpressed, he added, "We'd be lost without you." She shook her head, and he said frantically. "I'll put Banana Beatbox back on the menu."
"And you'll scrap the dumb hats." Emma added. "And what about the basketball theme?"
Ash grinned in victory. "I was rethinking it already. Hey, Em?" Emma hummed in question and he asked, "Wanna go to movies later?"
She's so New York when she's in LA. She won't lose herself in love the way that I did.
Ash inhaled and attempted, "Hey, I was thinking about tonight…"
Emma looked at him questioningly as she took off her apron. "What about tonight?"
"How about you and me and Italian food?"
"Um... no."
He tried again. "You, me and Greek food?"
Emma shook her head apologetically. "Definitely not tonight."
Ash's heart dropped and he caught Emma's hand as she walked away. "You, me and anything?" He asked sadly.
She brushed him off. "I've got to get changed."
He let out a breath as he turned to her friend Rikki. "Is it me?"
Rikki patted his shoulder sympathetically. "No. It's not you."
She'll call you out, she'll put you in your place. When Emma falls in love, I'm learning.
Emma huffed out a breath and hissed when her sore muscles jolted in pain. "Ash is not cute. And even if he is, it's got nothing to do with it. He's insensitive and arrogant, and he thinks he knows everything-"
Rikki grinned with a conspiratorial glance at Cleo, "I like him already."
"Well, I don't. And of course you do, you fell for Zane." Rikki's eyes widened and she took a small step back. Emma felt a little bad, but she knew Rikki would take it in stride. But there was a bit of lingering hurt there. Emma knew Rikki loved Zane and it had been a low blow. He'd changed a lot and was always there for them.
Cleo broke the awkward silence by saying, "Emma, sometimes you can be a little… competitive. Just take it easy. Talk to him."
At this point, Emma's patience was at its end. "Guys, enough with the advice. Cleo, you and Lewis can't even have an honest conversation!"
Emma met a boy with eyes like a man, turns out her heart fits right in the palm of his hand.
Emma walked up to the man she assumed was the instructor to introduce her brother. "Hi! Hi, this is Elliot. He's here for a riding lesson."
"You'll wanna talk to Ash." The man pointed to a boy walking out of the stables. When their eyes met, her heart skipped a beat.
His lips quirked up in a smile as he - Ash - walked up to them. "How can I help?"
Emma shook off the daze and asked, "You're the riding instructor?"
He seemed to know how he affected her and the arrogance of this boy, but he actually laughed. "Sure am. Is that a problem?"
Emma stumbled through an answer as Elliot just looked at her confused. "No. I mean, I just thought you'd be a little older."
Yeah he'll be her shelter when it rains, little does he know his whole world's about to change.
Ash looked down at Emma and sighed. "You're very mysterious."
Emma smiled at him. "Is that what you like about me?"
"Maybe. Maybe not. Gotta admit, you're pretty closed up. It can be kind of annoying."
She threw him a condescending look. "Is this you trying to be romantic? 'Cause it's not working."
"I know you're afraid of something." Ash said outright.
"I am not."
Ash eyes held a sort of understanding. "Yeah, you are. Something so simple as standing next to the water. And you're shaking."
"It's a little windy down here." She wasn't lying. She rubbed her hands against her arms in an attempt to warm up.
He wrapped his jacket around her shoulders and looked her dead in the eyes. "Emma. You don't have to be afraid. Whatever happened, happened. You can't change that. And it's OK to be scared. But I'm here to help, OK?" Without a second's hesitation, he picked her up with ease and carried her over the water.
Cause she's the kinda book that you can't put down. Like if Cleopatra grew up in a small town. And all the bad boys would be good boys if they only had a chance to love her, but to tell you the truth sometimes I wish I was her.
Yeah, between me and you, sometimes I wish I was her.
