And before I knew it, Thronecoming season came. One of the biggest school holidays ever after. First, you've got the big parade, then the bookball championship against Beanstalk High (my money's on the school with actual giants). And finally, the Thronecoming dance where the Thronecoming queen and king will be announced.
Everything was going great so far. We all decorated the grimmnasium for the dance and float building outside. It was work and play. Plus, we had some tasty pizza. Leave it to Blondie to find the perfect party food. Despite the fun, Cerise looked pretty mad about something, but just as I was about to talk to her, a crowd was forming around Apple's float. Curious, I went over there and spotted Apple telling Raven that she was being selfish for not being a villain!
Are you kidding me? Forget Thronecoming queen, Apple deserves an award for being the biggest drama queen in the kingdom!
Once I finished doing my rounds campaigning for Thronecoming queen. It was already dark out! But I had just enough time to give Raven a pep talk.
Greenly knocked on the door. A moment later, Raven answered it. "Greenly? What's up?"
"Hey, Raven." Greenly leaned forward. "Is Apple here? I want to talk to you." She looked around. "Alone."
Raven shook her head. "Apple's not here. Come on in."
Greenly did just that and Raven shut the door, locking it behind her.
"Raven, I heard what Apple said to you at her float." said Greenly. "And she's wrong. You're not being selfish. You're the least selfish person I know and that loser Apple is too gutless to accept it!"
Raven crossed her arms. "First of all, Apple's not a loser." she said seriously.
"But-"
"Listen, if you or me start ripping on Apple, we'll make a habit out of it and we'll be just like my mother!" Raven reminded. "Second, Apple's not entirely wrong."
"What do you mean?"
"You say that I'm not being selfish. But the thing is, I am, in a way. See, it's okay think about others. But it's important to think about yourself too. You can't always say yes to everyone and it's okay to be a little selfish." Raven sighed. "Greenly, I really appreciate you helping me. But you can't be doting on me all the time. I have to learn how to think for myself. Plus, you're running for Thronecoming queen and you're the school mascot so you'll be performing at the bookball game. And on top of that, there's the big Thronecoming dance! With a busy schedule like that, you need to think about yourself more."
Greenly was silent for a moment. "I...never thought about that." She smiled. "Y'know, if I wasn't running for queen, I'd totally vote for you! And even if I don't win, it'll be an honor running your race."
Raven smiled. "Thanks, Greenly. I feel the same way." She offered her hand. "Here's hoping that the best girl wins."
Greenly shook her friend's hand. Then they said their goodnights and Greenly left. As she headed down the hall to get to her dorm, a swan flew over Greenly's head and transformed into Duchess, who was standing in Greenly's way.
"Just heard the word, Greenly." Duchess sneered. "Why in the kingdom would you run for Thronecoming queen? You don't care about our school. You're just campaigning because you want to feel better about yourself." She smirked. "And even if you did win, you wouldn't know how to handle being a queen."
But Greenly didn't get angry. She was just annoyed more than anything. "Duchess, just because your story has a sad ending is no excuse to hurt other people. Is this how you want to be remembered when your days are over? Just a jealous brat who's too scared to grow up and be mature?"
A stunned look came upon Duchess' face. Then she threw herself to the ground and started screaming loudly. Greenly jolted back by the sheer volume of the ballerina's screams. Girls started coming out of their dorms as Duchess kept screaming.
"Help! Someone, help!" Duchess wailed. She pointed at Greenly. "Greenly just attacked me! Get her away from me! Somebody stop her before she hurts anyone else!"
SPLASH!
A brown liquid was dumped all over Duchess. She turned around and saw Maddie Hatter holding an empty teapot. Apple walked up beside Maddie, frowning at Duchess.
"That's quite enough, Duchess." Apple took out her MirrorPhone to show footage of Duchess' insinuation. "You're already in enough trouble with Headmaster Grimm. And I don't think he would approve of this behavior at all. So, leave Greenly alone unless you want to spend Thronecoming in detention."
Snarling, Duchess got up and stomped away. Apple turned to Greenly. "You okay, Greenly?"
"Uh, yeah." said Greenly. "Thanks for having my back." She was surprised that Apple of all people would stand up for her.
"Don't metion it. It's the least I can do for someone turning over a new page." Apple smiled. "By the way, I heard from Blondie that you're on the Thronecoming Court with me, her, Cupid, and Raven! Congratulations!"
"Really?!" Greenly's face lit up like fairy fireworks. "I made it?!"
"Yep!" Apple nodded. But that doesn't mean you can relax!" She playfully winked.
"Don't worry. I'll be busier than Red Riding Hood with a basket for Granny!" She reached into her gym bag and put on her golden knight helmet. She mimicked playing a trumpet. "Bum-bum-bum! To Granny's house! Whoosh!" she said dramatically before running off.
Apple laughed. "Who knew Greenly had a sense of humor?" Her smile fell. "I feel sorry for her, though. She'll never win." She shrugged. "But you got to give her credit for trying."
After her dramatic exit, Greenly returned to her dorm. "Greetings, fellow princesses!" Greenly removed her helmet and spotted Briar at her window looking a bit despondent. "Briar?"
Briar gasped and spun around. "What?" she snipped.
"Uh, are you okay? You seem kind of down."
Briar huffed and tossed her hair. "Well, not that it's any of your business, but I fell asleep and missed float building. Thank you very much." And she walked away to the bathroom to get cleaned up for bed.
Greenly looked at Ashlynn. "Is she really that upset because she missed one little party?" Greenly asked.
"I'm afraid so." said Ashlynn. "But she'll be fine, Greenly. No need to worry."
Greenly shrugged. "If you say so." She wasn't going to let Briar's thorny mood ruin her moment. Greenly made it to Thronecoming Court!
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
