The next day, the class followed Madame Baba Yaga's massive chicken-legged hut to a clearing in the forest. She ordered it to stop and once it did, the teacher floated down on her magic pillow to join the students below.
"Now, you're about to discover a most unique building here at school. It's called: Heritage Hall!" Madame Baba Yaga announced, despite nothing was there at all.
"Madam Yaga, where is it?" asked Cupid.
"Well, you see...Heritage Hall is a magical structure!"
Right on cue, a nearby clock tower chimed twelve and a beam of light shot out toward the clearing. A tall and glorious building slowly appeared from the light.
"It only appears during Thronecoming!" Madame Baba Yaga said as she lead the way into Heritage Hall. Everyone was in amaze and wonder as they waked up the golden steps and into the magical hall. Even Greenly was impressed. This was pretty cool.
Inside was a huge hallway with it's walls decorated with beautiful floor-to-ceiling portraits of famous fairy tales. Standing before each breath-taking portrait was a pedestal. At the end of the hall was a giant room with a huge book.
"Heritage Hall is dedicated to those who came before you: your parents―the alumni of Ever After High! Now, if everyone will gather around the Storybook of Legends, I'd like to tell you about your Thronecoming treasures."
Everyone gathered as Madame Baba Yaga continued explaining.
"When your parents were students, they were given the chance to leave gifts for any of their children who might attend this school."
Headmaster Grimm cleared his throat before stepping forward. "Uhm, yes! Let's get to it!"
"Yay!" cheered the students. They all rushed off while Greenly took her time walking to her treasure. It took a while, but Greenly found it. It was a small black box. Greenly opened it and found a gold ring with a green gemstone along with a folded piece of paper. Greenly unfolded the note.
To my daughter, once you put this ring on, you must never take it off or it will fall into the wrong hands. This ring will enhance your sensitivity powers. Instructions are on the back.
To say Greenly was stunned would be an understatement. Her mother actually left her such a powerful item?! She expected something boring like Blondie's running shoes or Briar's neck pillow.
Greenly put the ring on her left middle finger. It was a perfect fit. She turned the paper and saw a detailed list of instructions. Apparently, this ring can help her detect lies and wrongdoings without touching people as well as see hidden items and other peoples' auras.
Looking across, she spotted Amber Spite about to look at her gift. To test the ring, Greenly focused her Magic Touch toward Amber, causing the ring's gem to glow. The princess saw the items that were in Amber's purse: her MirrorPhone, wallet, and a few potion bottles. Greenly also saw what treasure was in Amber's box.
It was a wand! But this wand seemed different. It had a star at the tip of it, like Farrah Goodfairy's wand.
But wait. Those are the kind of wands fairy godmothers use. And Amber is a dark fairy.
Greenly watched Amber open the box. When the fairy saw the wand, her eyes grew wide and she swallowed hard. Looking around, Amber swiped the wand and stuffed it into her purse before flying away.
"What the hex?!" Putting the note in her pocket, Greenly decided to chase after her friend. Amber was a fast flying fairy, but Greenly was up for the chase.
Knowing Amber will hard to find, Greenly focused hard. Her ring grew brightly and she was able to see Amber's aura heading toward the Dark Forest. Very few people were brave enough to enter the Dark Forest...
Luckily, Greenly was one of those few people.
Amazingly, Greenly was able to dodge every skeletal tree, mossy root, and sticky spiderweb in her path. Focusing harder, she saw Amber's aura fly into an old shack in the Dark Forest and slammed the door behind her.
But that door wasn't going to stop Greenly Pea.
"HI-YAH!" Greenly kicked down the door, startling Amber.
"Greenly?!" Amber gasped. "Wha-?! How did you find me?!" In her hands was the wand. It was sparkly and seafoam green.
"I can tell you, after you tell me why you took off like that and hid out here!" Greenly said. "What's going on?"
Panic filled Amber's eyes. Greenly tried to put her friend at ease. "Amber, I'm your friend. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm just concerned for you. I know it's none of my business, but I just want to let you know that if something's wrong, I'm here for you if you want to talk about it." She turned to leave.
"Wait!"
Greenly turned and saw Amber stare at the wand. "This wand...is a gift from my mom."
"Your mom? But why would she give you that?" Greenly pointed to the wand. "It's a fairy godmother wand."
Greenly winced as if those words stung her. "Because..." She took a deep breath as she clutched the wand in her hands. "I'm half fairy godmother."
"WHAT?!" Greenly shouted. "But-but you told everyone that both your parents were dark fairies!"
"I lied!" Greenly retorted. She sighed. "See, my dad, the Dark Fairy's brother, fell in love with my mom, a fairy godmother." She took out her wallet and opened it, showing a picture of her parents; her father was tall and handsome. He had spiky white hair, pale grey skin, blue eyes, and mighty wings. They were translucent like glass but had black edging just like the Dark Fairy.
Next to him was Amber's mom. She had long and straight black hair and had the same eyes as Amber's. She wore a crown of white flowers and a white glittery dress. Her wings were gold, but they were folded. Their smiles in the picture were warm and loving. They looked so happy together.
"When my dad's family found out he married a fairy godmother, they were livid, especially Aunt Thorn. She disowned him and forced him to remove Thorn from his name and change it to Spite because that's exactly how she felt towards him."
"That's just...wrong!" said Greenly. "How could she do that?"
"Because dark fairies have always looked down on fairy godmothers for wielding limited power and serving others while dark fairies have unlimited power and serve no one." Amber's eyes saddened. "No one outside my family knows about Mom except you. Even Faybelle is embarrassed of being related to a fairy godmother."
Then it hit Greenly. "Wait. So, the reason why you're magically weak is because you're half fairy godmother?"
Amber nodded. She looked at her wand. "And if I start using this wand, everyone will know my fairy godmother side and treat me like a loser, just like every other dark fairy in my family."
"Yeah? Well, they should all have their wings clipped and thrown off a cliff!" Greenly snapped.
Amber looked at the princess in shock. "Greenly!"
"Sorry, Amber. But they shouldn't be like that! Do you love your mom?"
"Of course I do! She's the best mom in the world and I love her more than life itself!"
"And no one should be punished for being different, right?"
"No!"
"And even though some people will never accept you, some people will and support you no matter what!" Greenly declared. "So, what do you say? Half Dark Fairy, half Fairy Godmother?"
RING! RING! RING!
Greenly and Amber's phones were both ringing at the same time. Confused, they looked and saw that Bentley was calling Amber and Ian was calling Greenly. Both shrugging, the girls answered at the same time.
"AMBER!" Bentley screamed out.
"GREENLY!" Ian screamed as well.
"What?" the girls asked in unison.
"RAVEN IS GONNA SIGN THE STORYBOOK OF LEGENDS!" the boys yelled.
Greenly and Amber gasped before they screamed as well.
"WHAAAAT?!?!"
