Chapter 1

...

A quirk apprehension test was the last thing Izuku Midoriya expected on his first day of school. Normally there was some kind of orientation that took place to help students get acclimated to their new surroundings, but his homeroom teacher Mr. Aizawa had other ideas. He was going to assess everyone in Class 1-A right from the jump and assign a point value to each student. The one with the lowest score would be expelled before their hero journey could even really begin.

The emerald-haired boy was doing his best to try and keep up with his classmates while not using his quirk and hoped her had enough raw physical talent from his nine whole months of training to make it through without seriously damaging himself. The last thing he wanted to do was fail and let his idol down after All Might invested so much time and effort into him. If he was really going to become the next symbol of peace, then he couldn't afford to have his journey end at the start line.

He ran through every drill his teacher put out in front of him until it came time for the ball toss. There was no avoiding using his quirk now. His former best friend turned bully managed to get himself a great score with his explosion quirk and his friend Uraraka received the best score possible with her gravity quirk. How was anyone going to top infinity?! That was an interesting discussion among classmates before eventually it was his turn to bat.

Izuku knew he couldn't use One-For-All without breaking his arm in the process but didn't have much choice. He was about to give it everything he's got until his teacher stopped him with his own quirk. Shota Aizawa wasn't just any teacher old at UA Academy; he was the Erasure Hero: Eraser Head. If he set his eyes on you then your powers were basically cancelled out.

"You're not ready, you have no control over your power. Were you planning to break your bones again? Counting on someone else to save your useless body?" He cruelly admonished.

"No! That wasn't what I was trying to do-"

Izuku quickly found himself interrupted and wrapped up in the man's capture weapon. Like a fly caught in a spider's web there was very little he could do other than look the underground hero dead in his glowing red eyes. He felt so small under his gaze and his words were definitely having an effect on him.

"No matter what your intensions are, you would be nothing more than a liability in battle. You have the same reckless passion as another overzealous hero I know. One who saved a thousand people by himself and became a legend. But even with that drive you'll be worthless if you can only throw a single punch before breaking down. I'm sorry Midoriya but with your power there's no way you can become a hero."

Mr. Aizawa echoed the same sentiment Izuku heard all his life ever since he was four years old. People would tell him day in and day out that he could never become a hero and despite that he never gave up. He didn't then and he certainly wouldn't now. Any shock he felt at his teacher's bluntness was replaced with the inner determination to prove him wrong. He made it this far, hadn't he? He just needed to push a little further.

Eraser Head released him, and the glow of his eyes faded. "I've returned your impractical quirk. Take your final throw. Hurry and get it over with."

Izuku watched him return to the rest of class on the sidelines who all watched him with bated breath. Izuku would prove his teacher wrong and show him that he did belong at UA. He had the drive to succeed, and he could feel the power that lay within start to swell as he gripped the ball tight and reared his arm back to throw. He reached deep within himself and focused all his power into the tip of his index finger.

Mr. Aizawa was right about what he said. If he couldn't control his quirk, then there was no way he'd ever become a hero. He had to work harder than anyone else if he wanted to succeed. Even though he had a lot to learn he would focus on what he could do for now and finally let the ball fly.

'Smash!'

The ball soared high into the sky leaving behind great winds as it did, surprising everyone on the sidelines. He broke his finger in the process, and it hurt, but not as badly as before. He managed to use his power and not go down. He could do it. He could become a hero.

Izuku was trembling, but he was still upright. He turned towards his teacher and clenched his fist tight, broken finger and all. "Mr. Aizawa... you see, I'm still standing."

Making it through that part of the test was a huge accomplishment for him... and then his former friend Kacchan tried to attack him demanding answers. Needless to say, that Mr. Aizawa put a stop to that almost immediately. He got close, but the pro hero wrapped him up in his capture tape and shut him down before anything could happen. It was a rare thing to see the ashy blonde get scolded by someone who wasn't his mother, and he was left alone to stew in his anger.

As Izuku was returning to the sidelines to join his friends, a new voice called out to him. "Excuse me."

Izuku turned to find its owner was greeted by what was quite possibly the prettiest girl he'd ever seen. The first thing he noticed was that she was tall, taller than him by a good three inches or so and had long black hair that was neatly tied into a spiky ponytail with a large strand hanging off the right side of her face. Her eyes were sharp and dark in their color, and she had a mature physique that almost any woman would kill for. Even while dressed in the standard UA gym uniform her figure really stood out.

Izuku had seen her from the sidelines during the test but hadn't actually seen her up close like this, nor could he remember hearing her voice until now. She had a very refined tone of voice and even her posture was that of someone in high standing now that he thought about it.

"Y-Yes." Izuku nervously stuttered out. He was talking to girl. He was actually talking to another girl that wasn't his mom or Uraraka.

"Pardon me but do you mind if I take a look at your finger?" She asked politely.

"S-Sure." The poor green haired boy didn't have all that much experience conversing with the fairer sex and no, his mother didn't count. He offered the tall girl his hand and as she took it her own, he noticed just how soft her skin actually was. He could feel a faint blush rushing to his cheeks before wincing when she lightly gripped his now broken index finger.

"My apologies." She said quickly.

"I-It's alright." Izuku stammered out.

The girl pursed her lips. "It's definitely broken." She then turned her gaze back to Izuku's freckled face. "May I?"

He wasn't sure what she meant but nodded.

He watched his fascination her hand began to glow and within a matter of seconds it was occupied by two splints and some gauze.

"Woah! That's amazing!" Izuku spoke a little louder than intended.

The girl didn't seem to mind and looked away briefly before returning her attention to the task at hand. "This is nothing, really."

Izuku watched in silence as the dark-eyed girl put the splint in place. He winced a little as she tied the gauze but the small blush on his cheeks never faded. By the time she was finished his finger was fully secure and he felt nothing but gratitude towards his classmate for her kindness.

"That should hold until you see recovery girl." The girl smiled. It was such a pretty smile too.

"T-Thank you. M-My name Izuku Midoriya by the way." Izuku finally introduced himself.

The girl continued to smile as she offered her own hand. "Momo Yaoyorozu. It's a pleasure to meet you, Midoriya."

"L-Likewise." He stuttered as he gently shook her hand.

The moment itself hadn't last long however as Mr. Aizawa announced it was time to move onto the next part of the test. Izuku fought through the pain as he and the rest of the class finished their physical fitness test. By the time it was finally over he was left exhausted. Thier homeroom teacher tallied up the results for all too see and just as he feared... he was dead last. He was in last place.

He was ready to star bawling thinking he failed but then much to his relief, Mr. Aizawa informed everyone that his threat of expulsion was just a rational deception to make sure everyone gave it their all. The looks and sounds of shock from the class came as no surprise. They seriously thought they were going to get expelled... well, all except for one.

"I'm surprised the rest of you didn't figure that out." said Momo addressing her stunned classmates. "I'm sorry, I guess I probably should've said something."

Yeah, she really should've.

The rest of the school day went by in a flash as he and the rest of the class finally received a proper orientation. Izuku made sure to visit recovery girl at the infirmary and she was able to help fix finger and sent some praise towards the person who splinted his finger, stating that they did a very good job on the fly. The emerald child left for the train station with his friends and eventually arrived home to find himself alone.

Izuku let out a long sigh before going to his room and tossing his bag aside. The day had been exciting but also exhausting. As he threw himself on the bed he looked around his room at the various All Might merchandise, he owned. He made it through the first hurdle and ensured his idol's faith in him wasn't in vain. Mr. Aizawa said tomorrow things would be much more difficult and he felt ready to meet whatever challenge head on.

He then thought about the quirk apprehension test and the nice girl who took care of his injury. She really was pretty and smile equally so. Izuku reached into his school blazer pocket and found the splint she'd made for him with her quirk. He was so caught up with her that he failed to ask her about her powers. He blushed thinking about that and wondered if she would tell him more about it tomorrow if he asked. He could hold off on taking some notes until then. In the meantime, however...

He got up and placed the splint on his computer table before heading to the kitchen to make a snack. Izuku Midoriya didn't know it and neither did Momo Yaoyorozu, but her little act of kindness was just the start of something so much more.

To be continued...
