She'd thought she'd communicated it better, but the blatant show of trust, in his language, did much for his ego.
They were still rebuilding what had been lost when he'd used the glamour, but she'd told him no questions were off limits. He was less inclined to do so while the others were around, but Rin and Shippou seemed a little safer.
A little less judgemental.
Kouga had eventually slunk away, eyes still lingering as he promised to check in on them after reporting back to his pack, and the tension had eased. Even Jaken seemed to have calmed down, though that might've been due to Rin threatening him with a stick. It was half the size of his staff, but Rin could make herself look like a giant when needed, and the vassal's loyalty outshone his prejudice.
It made hanging out together more tolerable, giving Inuyasha, Sango, and Miroku time to focus on exterminating lesser demons without their help. Shippou and Rin were too young, and Sesshoumaru seemed less inclined to participate than when they were hunting for shards.
He claimed his help wasn't necessary. Kagome liked to think it was because he'd found something worthwhile to protect. Either way, Jaken had been roped into more responsibilities back at the shiro, offering to take them on personally so Sesshoumaru could spend more time with them. He still spoke most of his reports directly to the daiyoukai, but there had been a few instances where Kagome's input had been required.
Jaken had been chagrined to ask, but even he knew his limitations. Kagome tried to bolster his confidence by pretending to be unsure of her answer and relying on his instincts for the final decision, hoping it would soften the blow when she moved into the shiro.
