Authors note

I loved this scene in the anime but I would prefer them to kiss so I wrote this :) Hope you enjoy!

Jinshi laid Maomao on the floor and put her leg up on his back. He wanted to clear up that he wasn't a eunuch because even though she touched his "frog" (dang he wanted it to look a bit different) she was acting so aloof… like nothing had happened. The moon prince leaned towards her and his gaze fell on her lips.

Maomao, for a short moment, was thinking about kicking him—but if he was in fact not a eunuch (she couldn't fool herself that she just touched a big frog despite her best efforts), then he must have a high position—he had the right to be mad at her… he wanted to tell her something and she called his gems just by the words… big… manly pride.

The girl's thoughts were quieted when she saw his lips going for her. She wanted to say something, refuse—maybe actually kick him with her leg. But she couldn't—her body refused cooperation with her brain. The air started to get heavy and eventually she closed her half-open lips… She didn't know what was happening to her. All her sisters from the brothel taught her how to deal with unwanted affection—she herself knew tons of ways to keep Master Jinshi's lips from touching hers, but somehow she wasn't doing anything. Jinshi had very delicate lips, beautiful ones—because he is beautiful—and when he finally kissed her with those lips, she felt that an urge for more was opening up in her—NO! It's impossible. She can't be in love with Jinshi—she doesn't love anyone! She won't be muddling up in court business, any emperor business—she already put herself at risk enough times.

She abruptly turned her head away.
"The feast will finish in some time," she murmured, "and my saliva can have traces of poison."

Jinshi wasn't interested in any feasts anymore, and he knew that the apothecary wasn't consuming any poison recently. He had to tell her of his true identity—she shouldn't be lied to anymore, kept in the dark. He wanted to move her face so that it could face him—she looked even prettier when blushing—he was the moon prince, she was the princess of the stars, no, the sun.

Jinshi was trying to move her head for it to face him again, but she wouldn't let him—resisting his fingers, so soft, annoying like a woman's fingers. When she returns to the emperor's palace, she won't talk to him (maybe apart from the times when he is giving her herbs). She will continue her work as Consort Gyokuyou's lady-in-waiting…

"Maomao"—she widened her eyes and snapped her head to look at him—at his gaze that was solemn and serious, without his childish flirtiness. He named her by name for the first time. She quietly gasped with surprise. She didn't want to admit it, but now she knew why everyone in the palace was mesmerized by him, because right now she got mesmerized by him too.

"Maomao, I want to tell you something," he started, nearly in one breath, and she broke all the invisible restraints she had built toward him and just decided to listen to him.

And then

A sound of barking that let down all the tension, so abruptly that Maomao shook and Jinshi nearly shouted, but Maomao got her mind back fast and whistled to her escape key, quickly slipping out from under the not-so-eunuch, whilst Jinshi didn't know what was going on and didn't step back when a white puppy fell on his back.
