Chapter 6 - Surgery

Friday was here and Chichi was already at the Hospital, Krillin and 18 had promised to be with her and they were sat with her. Krillin had gone to grab them all a tea as 18 read a magazine, she glanced over at chichi who was looking out the window of the hospital watching the world go by.

'You okay?' 18 asked as the ox princess softly chuckled

'I honestly have no idea how to answer that'

'Sorry'

'This isn't your fault 18, this whole situation is just…..'

'Shit?'

'Well I was gonna say harsh but yes that too!'

'Well no matter what, Krillin and I will be here for you.' 18 promised as Chichi nodded and took her hand softly

'Thank you' she smiled as Krilling walked towards them, his hands holding 3 hot beverages.

'Okay so I don't know what is the best one for you but the nurses told me chamomile is gonna be the best thing before surgery' Krillin handed her the tea as she smiled at him

'Thank you' she smiled as he handed 18 her Mocha and he enjoyed his Cappuccino sitting down next to his wife.

'So Chichi….. I spoke with Gohan last night' Krillin said as Chichi looked up at him in worry

'You didn't tell him anything did you!?' she asked worryingly

'No! I made you a promise, but he said he couldn't get through to you. He wanted to tell you that he spoke with Goku 2 days ago'

'Goku?!' Chichi asked

'what did he have to say for himself?' 18 asked

'He wanted to let us all know he and Vegeta were gonna be away training for another 5 months at least' Krillin answered as 18 huffed

'Oh Of course he is! He should be here!'

'Seems like Whis is putting him and Vegeta through the miller' Chichi said

'Are you not bothered about this? I know if you weren't dealing with this cancer, you would be so mad at him for staying away for so long'

'True. But I can't stop him, and it makes him happy. And I need him to stay happy and busy! I don't care he's gonna be gone for 7 months, hell he can stay away for another year! Because at least when he comes back, I'll be well again! Then we can move on with our lives, back to how it used to be!'

'Chichi you know him better than most I won't argue with that. But I've known him for a long time too. And I know its gonna hurt him that you didn't say anything to him? Remember how hurt he was when we didn't tell him about his grandpa? That it was him who turned into the giant Ape? I thought he'd never speak to us again. What do you think he's gonna say when he eventually finds out? I'm trying save you the trouble here! He needs to Be here For you!' Krillin pleaded

'This is the last place I need him to be! I'm saving him the trouble of knowing. Its better he's away while I fight this! The longer the better I say!' chichi argued. 18 and Krillin looked at the other, not fully agreeing to her statement but didn't want to start a row here of all places. She looked to them both and sighed hard

'I'm sorry… I didn't mean to snap…' she leaned forward resting her head in the palm of her hands as 18 rubbed her back

'It's okay, you're just anxious' she said

'Take a deep breath' Krillin instructed, breathing in and out slowly with her 'Better?' He asked as she nodded

'Thank You. Both of you' She smiled

'Son Chichi?' A nurse called out as chichi got up and gave her belongings to 18

'We'll be here' 18 softly smiled

'Thank you' she smiled and went with the nurse. 18 sighed as Krillin looked at his wife.

'what are you thinking?' he asked

'I'm thinking…. How she thinks its okay to keep something like this bottled up! if this was you I would want to know!

'yeah but….. I can see why she would keep this from Goku' he said

'You do?!'

'Well yes! Goku has always been able to protect us from dangers like aliens from another world or assassins. How would you begin to explain to him that this is a battle he can't fight?'

'But he could at least be here for his wife, or she could tell anyone else! Her kids!'

'Would you want Marron to know if it were me? Cause I wouldn't. I wouldn't want her to be scared' Krillin answered. 18 couldn't understand, she was an android, so it was easy for her to comment on certain choices, whereas Krillin could sympathise with Chichi, this could happen to anyone.

Chichi sat in the doctor's office as the doctor came in and softly smiled at her

'How have you been feeling Chichi?'

'I've been okay. As you said I've tried to keep as normal as possible, keeping to my routine, I'm not about to let this cancer beat me' she answered

'Well I admire your optimism. You understand what we are doing today?' the doctor asked

'I think so?' She answered as he began to explain

'You'll be receiving a lumpectomy today, now a Lumpectomy is a surgical removal of a discrete portion or "lump" of breast tissue, usually in the treatment of a malignant tumour or breast cancer. Now this is considered a viable breast conservation therapy, as the amount of tissue removed is limited compared to a full-breast mastectomy, and thus may have physical and emotional advantages over more disfiguring treatment.' He continued as Chichi felt her heart break a little, the scars will have to be something to Explain to Goku when he comes home, the doctor continued 'Sometimes a lumpectomy may be used to either confirm or rule out that cancer has actually been detected. Now in your case, since the cancer is at stage 2, we have a chance of removing the tumour rather than the full breast. Although a lumpectomy is used to allow for most of the breast to remain intact, the procedure may result in adverse effects that can include sensitivity and result in scar tissue, pain, and possible disfiguration of the breast if the lump taken out is significant. Do you have any questions at all?' He asked as Chichi looked at him and shook her head.

'No' she answered

'Okay well why don't we get you ready to go into theatre and we'll begin your surgery' he said as he led her to the Cancer ward and found a bed. She was told to remove her clothes and wear the hospital gown and take a couple of pills and lots of water before surgery, as she took them, the nurse approached her

'Now you were aware you were to not eat for the last 12 hours correct?' she asked as chichi nodded 'Okay good now let's get you into theatre shall we dear?' the nurse said as chichi nodded, the nurse grabbed a needle and asked chichi to roll to her side

'This is a sedative, then you wake up, your surgery will have been done.' The nurse assured as she inject the sedative into Chichi's hip as the ox princess felt the drowsiness overpower her and was knocked out. let the surgery begin.

…..

'Chichi…. Chichi…..chichi' a voice called out as chichi slowly opened her eyes and saw 18 And Krillin sitting by her bedside with a bouquet of flowers and a cup of tea, Chichi gently groaned

'Hey hey take it easy, you've been out for a while.' 18 said

'Ahhhh….. my head' chichi groaned

'Yeah you'll be getting a migraine from the sedative but the nurses said that'll go away after an hour or so' Krillin said

'Ugh! How long was I out?' she asked

'Well you went into surgery around 12 so its 7pm now' 18 answered

'Did they say if they got it?' chichi asked as 18 and Krillin looked at the other

'We don't know, they won't tell us anything.' 18 said as the door opened and the doctor entered

'Oh good! You are awake! How are you feeling?' he asked

'I've had better days' she answered

'Of course. Well Chichi I have some good news. We managed to remove the whole tumour from your breast!' he said as Chichi's eyes widened as 18 sighed in relief and Krillin cheered

'Thank Dende!' 18 said

'Thank you Doctor, so what's next?' chichi asked

'Well in order to ensure the cancer hasn't spread we will now put you on an 6 month trial of Chemo therapy, to ensure its all flushed out of your system'

'6 MONTHS?!' 18 gasped

'It's the only way we can ensure the cancer has not spread any further than it already had.' The doctor answered as chichi sighed and nodded

'6 months….' She sighed

'2 sessions a week for 6 months. I must warn you of the side affects you will receive'

'And I will hear it, but with all do respect I am really tired and I would like to get some rest' chichi said as he nodded

'Of course! You will be here for the next couple of days before we discharge you, get some rest for now. I will speak to you tomorrow' the doctor said

'Thank you Doctor' Krillin said as he nodded and left the room, leaving the 3 to talk

'Well at least they got the tumour out' 18 said

'Yes…. Now comes the fun part' chichi sighed

'you won't be alone chi, we're here for you' Krillin held her hand as she softly smiled

'6 months, we can do this, I can do this!' chichi sighed

'We know you can, we'll help you through it, every step of the way' 18 smiled as chichi looked to her 2 friends

'Thank you both. I'm so grateful you're here' she said as they all smiled at eachother

….

Chichi had fallen asleep 2 hours ago and krillin and 18 were still there by her bedside.

'Should we go home?' Krillin asked

'I don't want to leave her alone' 18 asked

'We're not going to, we know about her condition, we'll be here for her'

'Except its not us that ought to be here. Her kids should know! Her husband should be here!'

'We cant make her tell them if she doesn't want to 18, you told me that'

'What If I'm wrong? What if we tell them, then….'

'Then she wouldn't forgive us, and id rather face Goku's wrath than hers.' Krillin joked

'I'm serious!'

'So am i! she's made her choice, we gotta support her, no matter what we think.' Krillin said

'I know. But you saw how I broke down, eventually this will come out, we cant keep this secret forever' 18 said as Krillin looked at the sleeping Princess and sighed

'I think she's prepared to Try' He answered

So At least she's had her surgery. But we are not finished yet! oh no id ay were at least halfway, I know these chapters are short but I'm trying to spread the chapters out more! Anyway please leave you reviews and such, your support means the world to me! I shall return soon!
