Marcus dove aside as a massive barrage of purple lasers rained down at him from the flying dolphin-looking devil, the blasts only narrowly missing. As he rolled to his feet, he deflected the massive, Virgil-esque devil's blade with his Rebellion, then slashed the Blue Queen out to the side, narrowly deflecting a flail from one of the two giants. Things were going poorly. So far, in the last half-hour of constantly fighting, he'd managed only to crush the over-sized moth and split the red-armored knight in half, and kill the snake thing after cutting off all of its tentacles. Kat had managed to kill the crow thing, which had fought with purple-tinted magic, with a surprise shot, and then wound the three-faced thing badly enough that it had retreated, however, as Marcus was sent bouncing backward by a ball of molten debris the huge devil with a mouth in its stomach had spat out of its stomach, the three-faced thing returned, firing a trio of laser beams into Marcus, sending him drilling into the ground.
"You are pathetic!" the massive devil with a mouth in its stomach scoffed. "How you ever managed to seal a rift, or how Vergil believes you to be a threat, I'll never understand."
Marcus pushed himself up, transforming into his devil form once again snarling as he lifted his swords. "You keep talking shit, but you're too much of a coward to fight me one-on-one. Guess that means you know I'd crush you."
"I am the great and all-powerful Goliath!" the massive devil roared. "No one can defeat me!"
And then, he charged. Marcus smirked, and as Goliath swung a powerful, right-handed swipe at him, Marcus leapt into the air, stepping off of the hand, then slashed viciously upward, carving out Goliath's eye. Goliath roared in pain, recoiling, and Marcus flipped. His Devil Bringer shone as he tested his ability to use a spectral arm while in his full devil form. The arm formed, but he couldn't form the full-sized spectral silhouette. However, the arm was enough, because as his sword transformed into its gauntlet and boots form, his spectral arm exploded into Goliath's head, launching him backward into the three-faced head. Instantly, the two devils with flails for hands swung one toward him each, but Marcus snorted, grabbing Blue Queen from his back. His spectral arm formed a replica of it instantly, and Marcus slashed hard. This time, as the spectral sword met the flails, it exploded through them easily, and a moment later, Marcus drilled his gauntlet-augmented left fist into the ground as he landed, and the ground around him exploded. Both of the massive devils were sent flying, as was the replica of Vergil's black-armored form. And then, Marcus was off, sprinting along the ground as purple lasers and explosive spheres rained down around him, courtesy of the flying, winged, dolphin-tailed devil. He grit his teeth, snarling in annoyance just as the massive, metal, insect-like devil added its own blasts, massive, white-blue ones, to the onslaught. Marcus launched himself to the side, away from a blast from each, and the massive trash pile began to form in front of him. He'd already learned the hard way that it was more dangerous than he had realized. So instead he jumped, his boots shattering the ground as he exploded through the air just ahead of a powerful beam of raw demonic energy, which fired from a crystal the nightmarish pile of garbage had released from its body.
Marcus flipped, landing on the massive insect-like devil's back just as several plates opened, revealing a red sphere. However, the instant it appeared, Marcus drove the Blue Queen into the sphere to the hilt, then stepped back. Then, he lunged, slamming a left-handed punch into the sword's hilt, and then a moment later into the sphere. The sphere exploded instantly, and a half-second later the sword exploded out of the insect's underside. It shrieked and trembled, then began to collapse, its body breaking apart. Before Marcus could celebrate, the Cerberus-type devil leapt over the massive bug, swatting Marcus with its paw and sending him exploding into one of the buildings. Marcus growled in annoyance as he shoved himself out of the debris, glaring out of the building as the massive Cerberus roared. It began to speak, but before the first word was out of its mouths, Goliath rammed into it from behind, roaring as he charged Marcus. Marcus narrowed his eyes and launched himself into the air and up through the floors of the skyscraper he'd ended up in rapidly. And then, after the tenth floor, the flying nuisance he'd been dodging earlier was suddenly there, a dozen spots along its wings and a matching, vertical line down its tail shining violet just before they all fired a barrage of lasers.
Marcus flipped and dodged, narrowly evading the blasts, then exploded out of the building just ahead of a wall of flames the lasers had erupted into. He flashed toward the devil, his sword transforming from gauntlets and boots back into its base sword form, but as he slashed, the devil took off, evading his blade by millimeters, as it had every time he'd attacked it. Then, Marcus formed his sword into a gauntlet and boots once more as he plummeted. Below him, Goliath roared, looking up just in time for Marcus to explode down on him with both fists and feet. The resulting explosion hurled the Cerberus away as Marcus flattened Goliath, finally killing him. Then, he switched back to his sword once more just in time to deflect the massive, four-sectioned, club-like weapon held by the black knight devil. The violet electricity exploded into Marcus, hurling him backward, and the Cerberus slammed a paw down on him, pinning him to the ground.
"This farce has gone on long enough!" the Cerberus roared down at him. "Be honored that the king of the Cerberus tribe will be the one to kill you!"
Marcus glared up at its three heads, one radiating an unnatural cold from its mouth, one with its mouth filled with flames, and one with its mouth filled with dark, purple lightning. "I don't make it a habit to abuse animals. But for you..."
He stabbed his sword into the side of the Cerberus's paw, and it roared, yanking its paw back. At the same time, Marcus's spectral arm flashed out, grabbing Blue Queen, which had stabbed into the ground, and yanked him out of the way just ahead of a barrage of lasers and explosives from the flying pest. Except, at the same instant that the blasts began to rain down on the Cerberus and the area around it, a massive, blood red laser slammed into the flying devil, finally landing the first successful blow. The devil survived the blast, but it crashed to the ground, and Marcus capitalized. He launched himself toward it, Blue Queen pulled back as he twisted the top half of the handle sharply, heating the blade. The knight devil and the Cerberus both moved to intervene, but Marcus evaded the knight, then grabbed his other sword from the Cerberus's foot, holding it in reverse grip for a half-second before it transformed back into a gauntlet and boots. Then, he kicked off of the ground and beat his wings just as the flying devil began to rise. Before it could react, Marcus had reached it and slashed hard. The devil shrieked in pain as his sword tore down its front, but once again, its movements had been too fast. It had survived. At least, until a second blast of Kat's laser exploded into it, this time getting inside of its carapace through the gash and blasting its body apart.
Marcus flipped, landing on the side of the building and taking a split-second to look around. The three-faced thing was heading for Kat, and would be the next to die, and the last would have to be the knight, as he'd need to be able to focus on it to kill it. The pile of trash and green goo, which he believed Dante had said was called Nightmare, he had yet to figure out how to hurt at all, as it would form a body out of demonic plate that he couldn't damage, attack, and then retreat into its goo form, from which it could also attack. So, Marcus ignored it for the moment, deciding on the order for the remaining three. Then, finally, he was off, less than a second after landing, and a split-second before Nightmare fired a beam of demonic energy into the building, obliterating the section he'd been on. In the blink of an eye, Marcus reached the three-faced thing, drilling his right fist down into it, his spectral arm around his normal arm before exploding outward, multiplying his punch's force. At the same instant that his punch landed, the Blue Queen, which he'd hurled as he flew at the three-faced thing, impaled one of the two flail-handed demons in the chest. It roared, staggering backward, and Marcus exploded down on it a moment later, crushing its enormous torso. In a flash of light, his other sword was in his right hand again, and his left ripped the blue Queen from the now dead devil. He took off at a sprint, leaping into the air over the undamaged flail from the other behemoth, but flipped as he did, slashing the chain with his smaller sword. Then, as he reached the demon, he spun, both swords whipping around and splitting it across the abdomen before he jumped, slashing it up the front with both blades. He kicked off of its head, sending it staggering backward, and a moment later, a blast of ice, flames, and lightning exploded into the demon, killing it instantly.
Marcus flipped, landing on his feet as bullets began to rip into the ground around the knight, halting its charge as it neared Marcus, as it used an enormous, pale, purple, bat wing as a shield to block the bullets. As it did, Marcus rocketed past it at a sprint, then leapt into the air over the Cerberus's icy breath, which sent enormous, icy spears exploding up from the ground in a trail toward him. The Cerberus roared in annoyance, but as it lunged toward Marcus, Marcus left his full demon form in favor of forming the silhouette, now with a replica of both swords. It drove them down into the Cerberus's back, and Marcus landed lightly on the ground before the silhouette ripped its swords upward, and Marcus began to slash violently with both blades, the silhouette doing the same, almost instantly shredding the Cerberus. Then, Marcus leapt into the air over Nightmare's beam once more. As he landed, he placed the Blue Queen against his back, turning to the knight as Kat ended the stream of bullets, and the knight turned, shoving its sword into the air. A bolt of violent lightning exploded into the ground, but Marcus had already retaken his full demon form and charged, evading the blast.
The knight roared, rushing to meet him, but before it could reach him, Marcus slashed hard. The massive, spectral replica of his sword exploded into the knight's shield wing, shattering it, and as the knight staggered away, Marcus reached the knight himself, twirling his sword into a scythe before beginning to twirl it, lashing out in a flurry of strikes, none of which the knight was able to block. Finally, he twirled the scythe back into a sword, and the knight dropped his weapon, staggering backward, then crumbled into more than a dozen pieces. As the pieces crumbled into ash, Marcus turned toward Nightmare. The one thing he had no idea how to fight. However, before he could even consider worrying about it, Vergil exploded down opposite Nightmare from Marcus.
"You've killed them all," Vergil mused. "Impressive."
"Most of them weren't that hard," Marcus growled, eyes flicking to Nightmare.
Vergil snorted, then swiped his sheathed sword upward. A powerful blast of raw force and pressurized air exploded into Nightmare, hurling its body into the rift, and a moment later, a can of spray paint fell into the rift, only to be shot by a laser arrow and explode, sealing the rift.
"You're as skilled as ever, Kat," Vergil said evenly, turning his head slightly to look up at her, then returned his gaze to Marcus. "So, you gained strength while you were away. Good." He reached over, gripping the hilt of his sword. "Let us see whether or not you are worthy of your demon blood."
