Chapter1: Ending This

Think about it, why did Emily went to Boston? She didn't plan to get captured by Doyle, she wanted to end it. Here's how it could have gone differently.

"Come home, please. God, Emily, what did you think, that we would just let you walk out of our lives? I am so furious at you right now! Then I think about how scared you must be, hiding in some dark place all alone. But you're not alone, okay? You are not alone. We are in that dark place with you. We are waving flashlights and calling your name. So if you can see us, come home. But if you can't then… Then you stay alive, cause we're coming."

Emily was scared, like Garcia said. She was also sad, because she had walked out of their lives without really saying goodbye. She wanted to cry, but she had something to finish first.

Doyle was right there, just on the street corner. Two cars, a bunch of Irish mobs, Doyle among them.

Emily had to do it. She told him she would. "Come near my team and I would end you." He shoot at Morgan. He was so close. He killed Tsia in DC. And now, if she wanted to protect her team, she had only one option: end Doyle!

She left to protect the team. She even left her badge and gun in order to disconnect herself from the team, so Hotch would take that as her resignation. She left her phone so Garcia wouldn't be able to track her and so her badge and gun would be found quicker. She only took an old phone in case she needed one.

And she knew the consequences, she was FBI after all. Of course she knew. But in order to protect her team, she had to.

She put plugs into her ears, took out a flash-bang grenade and a gun. As the first car was leaving, she got out of her car, and attacked!

She was like a warrior on a suicide mission. What did it matter if she lives or dies? At least dead, she wouldn't see the look on the faces of her team once they learn what she did.

She started shooting, then threw a flash-bang grenade. She was vigilant as she watched the people get out of the car. But he wasn't there.

"Where's Doyle? I only want Doyle." She said to the coughing mobsters.

Of course, he would have known she was coming. He would try to ambush her.

Then she turned and opened fire. There he was, directly in front of her, also shooting.

She shot him in the torso, but he barely reacted, probably because of a vest. She took a bullet in her arm, and in her vest but not before she disarmed him by shooting at his hand. He dropped the gun, but she was barely holding hers. Because of the bullet she took into her vest, she fell on the ground. Then he charged her while she was barely shooting. He kicked the gun out of her hands.

They ended up fighting hand to hand. He was good and had the advantage of surprise at the moment, but Emily was not about to go down.

In the background, the mob were still coughing, too rattled by the flash-bang grenade and the shooting. The ones who were good enough to stand decided to run away. They all knew Doyle wouldn't want them to intervene.

Doyle was getting the upper hand, but Emily was strong. She managed to grab her pistol, the one hidden in her boot. Then, she shoots.

Everything went still for a second.

Doyle seemed to fall on the ground in a slow motion. Emily had shot him in the neck. Doyle was bleeding and he knew it was the end.

"Why? Tell me why?"

"I had to. You came after my team. Told you I would end you."

"Declan? Why did you put him in the profile? You knew they would kill him."

"No. I knew they would eventually find him. So I ended his suffering before it could begin."

"You killed him!"

That sentence would have sounded treating if Doyle wasn't in such a bad state.

Emily took her old phone with one hand while keeping pressure on Doyle's bleeding with the other. She considered using the handcuffs in her back pocket to cuff him, but he was not much of a threat at the moment.

"911, what is your emergency?"

"Send medicals and officers at The Black Shamrock immediately."

"What is the situation?"

"Someone was shot, he's bleeding a lot. I'm keeping pressure on the wound."

"Can you tell me your name, ma'am? Do you know where he was shot? Is the suspect still on site?"

"Are they on their way?" asked Emily not wanting to answer all those questions. "Listen, I'm going to leave the line open, but they'd better get here fast."

Doyle was starting to lose consciousness. Emily was staying with him as she heard the sound of the police and the ambulance.

And then, the ambulance stopped on the side on the street.

"He got shoot in the neck around two minutes ago. He also took one in the wrist," told Emily to the ME while they were rushing toward her. By then, Doyle was unconscious, but maybe still alive.

The ME got to work immediately and Emily stepped back. They both looked like they have been in a fight and there was no hiding it. So it didn't come as a surprise for Emily when the police were on her.

"Ma'am, did you shoot him?" asked an officer.

Time to face what she did. Emily knew she would be arrested. It was either her arrest for killing him, or her death. And she was surprised they were both still alive. She didn't plan for him to survive their fight.

"Yes, I did. My name is Emily Prentiss. I was, until recently, an FBI agent. I resigned a couple of hours ago. At the moment, I am unarmed. I shoot this man, Ian Doyle, who is an Irish terrorist and also killed people in DC no later than three nights him with care, he is very dangerous."

It was after the first word that the two officers had their weapons drawn on her. They barely waited for her to finish before arresting her.

"Emily Prentiss, you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions. You have the right to have a lawyer with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you have the right to stop answering at any time.

"Now, step back, turn around and put your hands on your head."

Emily listened. She didn't intend to resist. The voice of the two officers seems to become noise in the background while she was being cuffed and searched. She was still bleeding from her arm and her ribs were hurting under her vest.

"Ma'am, are those your guns?"

"I brought the machine gun and that Glock. He had that other." Emily answered while pointing at the guns on the ground with the handcuffs. Because of her injured arm, they handcuffed her with her hands in front.

"Did you shoot that car too?"

"Yes, I did. I also threw a flash-bang grenade in were a couple of guys in the car before the fight started. They ran away, but they do not have much to do with this."

"Did you come here alone?"

"Yes. The FBI doesn't know I'm here. I took my car and drove alone." Emily pointed at the car on the other side of the street.

"Ma'am, you said you're FBI, you know you are incriminating yourself at the moment, right?"

"I'm not going to hide what I did. I will ask for a lawyer, but I'm okay answering some questions right should also call Unit Chief SSA Aaron Hotchner from the FBI at Quantico. He is on Doyle's case and would want to know. In the meantime, a police officer or two need to go with the medics and ensure Doyle doesn't escape. He is really dangerous and already escaped prison once."

"Do you work with him, agent Hotchner?"

"Not anymore, but yes, I was on his team."

"Okay, you're going to wait in the car for now. A CSU will come and take care of the mess you made."

"Wait, one more thing. He shot me, at least three times. Two in the vest, one in my left arm. It's still bleeding. Now, with my hands cuffed, I cannot put pressure on it. I will need some light medical assistance eventually."

Emily had been guided inside the police car and she waited. The ME working on Doyle was now loading him inside the ambulance. For what she could grasp from the situation, he was still alive.

She wanted him dead. But once she saw him so gravely hurt, she couldn't find the force to end him. She knew she would call the police to surrender if she lived that far. Seeing him so weak, she decided to let the doctors and the medics deal with him.

Another ambulance arrived shortly after. The two EMs were directed at her. They opened the door of the car and a police officer was there with them for the whole time. Because the officer was uncertain of how dangerous she could be, he decided not to uncuffed her, which led the EMs to cut part of her sleeve in order to access the wound.

"Well, it's not too bad. It's just a graze, the bullet didn't even enter. We will put a bandage on it for now. It should heal on its own. You should change the bandage every six hours, and take some antibiotic. As for the graze on your forehead, it should also be fine. Keep that bandage clean."

"I'll do my best." Emily said. She knew she might not be able to keep up with those instructions where she was going.

It was a long time before the police decided to drive away from the crime scene. Backup had arrived and Doyle got a police escort to the hospital. CSU eventually arrived and processed the scene. All that time, Emily waited cuffed in the back of a police car.

Her biggest fear was that Doyle was still alive and that he would escape. As long as he was not in prison, there was a chance he could escape. And even in prison… She knew only two things in the world would make him stop: his death or hers. But as far as she knew, he was still alive.

Once at the police station, Emily was taken in and processed like a community criminal. Given the fact that her crime had been brutal, and seeing the guns and grenades she brought, they gave her the maximal security code. She quickly ended up with a jumpsuit, and a little cell for the rest of the night, as well as losing all her possessions. At least she was alone and could maybe get some sleep.

The team had been working on Doyle's profile since they found out Prentiss had left. They figured out about Boston where the case had started and they were now on the jet. Hotch had called JJ to shed light on Prentiss's time in the CIA and Garcia was also traveling with them. Suddenly, an alarm sound on Garcia's computer. All colours seem to drain, she didn't look like her funny and sunny usually self.

"Sir, I got bad news. I put an alert on anything related to either Prentiss or Doyle."

"What do you get?" Morgan asked angrily.

"Prentiss had been arrested in Boston. Apparently, she shot a guy in the street. And there is worst. Doyle was the one to get shot. He is on the table right now."

"She shot Doyle," said Reid not believing it.

"Sound like that," said Garcia. "Right now, that's all I have. I will keep you updated and, in the meantime, I send the coordinates of the police station where she is on your phones."

"Send me the name and phone number of the officers in charge," asked Hotch.

"Already done."

Hotch took out his phone, but it rang at the same moment.

"Hotchner."

"Are you Aaron Hotchner, SSA and unit chief of the Behavior analysis unit of the FBI?" the person on the phone said.

"Yes, I am. And you are?"

"I am Officer Stephen Davis from Boston PD. I arrested Emily Prentiss. She said she was an FBI agent and worked for you."

"Yes, she does. Can you tell me what she did?"

"She opened fired in the streets of Boston, in front of a bar, on a SUV. She also threw a flash-bang grenade. Fortunately, she didn't hurt anyone by that point, but then, she fought with a man and shot him in the neck. She also called 911 and surrendered. Right now, we have her at the police station and she will be charged."

"What can you tell me about the man she fought with?"

"He was unconscious when we arrived. At the moment, he is in operation at the hospital. Miss Prentiss told us his name was Ian Doyle, that he was a terrorist currently wanted and that you were working on his that right?"

"Yes, it is. I must tell you that Ian Doyle is really dangerous. Like Agent Prentiss told you, he is a terrorist, but also a family annihilator. He escaped from prison and traveled internationally. You should also arrested everyone that you found around him when you arrested him. They might be his accomplices. As for Agent Prentiss, my team and I are coming to Boston. Can you send all the files you have on both of them to Penelope Garcia, our technical analyst?"

"On it. I will be waiting for you."

"Did agent Prentiss told you anything so far?"

"She actually confessed the crime right at the crime scene."

"Wait for us before you interrogated her again, please."

Hotch hung up and looked at the team observing him.

"She actually confessed," repeated Rossi.

"I have found the 911 call," said Garcia. "She didn't confess during that call, but according to police records, she confessed once the police arrived."

"She shot him, she is ruthless," said Morgan, angry. "She must have known that by doing that, she would be charged with murder, or at least attempted murder. She just left the FBI before going AWOL, she knew she would not get help or protection.

"Okay, for the moment, we will profile Prentiss and Doyle. Why did she go after him? We know she was undercover and close to him."

"Her cover was to be romantically involved with him," revealed JJ. "She helped with the profile, for the prison, once Doyle was arrested. She gave a lot of details since she knew him."

"As far as we know, she is the person who knows him the better. We need to talk to her," said Hotch.
