CHAPTER 45: FACING THE FALLOUT
The room was silent for a long moment, the weight of the truth hanging heavily in the air. The Potters stood there, furious and heartbroken, and Harry could feel the years of neglect, pain, and betrayal crashing down on him. But there was also something else—a sense of vindication, as though his pain had finally been seen, finally been acknowledged.
Sirius placed a hand on Harry's shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You've been through hell, Harry," he said softly. "But you're not alone anymore."
James moved to stand beside his son. "We're here now, Harry," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "We're here. And we're not going anywhere."
Lily reached out and pulled Harry into a tight hug, her anger giving way to a raw, desperate love. "I'm so sorry, Harry," she whispered, her voice cracking. "I should have been there. I should have known."
Lily's face turned pale as Harry's words sank in. She took a step back, her mind racing. "They tortured them until their minds snapped... And Ted... he was killed before that?!" Her voice broke at the mention of Ted Tonks, the gravity of the situation weighing heavily on her.
James clenched his fists, his eyes darkening with fury. "Those bloody Death Eaters," he muttered, pacing back and forth. "What have they done to everyone we care about?"
Harry nodded grimly. "The Longbottoms are in a very bad state. Neville still has his parents, but... they're not who they used to be. And Andromeda, well, she's been through enough." His eyes flickered to Dumbledore, but he couldn't bring himself to confront the man further, not yet.
Lily turned back to Dumbledore, her voice dangerously low. "So, you let Harry suffer with the Dursleys because the Longbottoms were tortured and Andromeda was grieving?" She shook her head in disbelief. "You lied to me—to us—and sent Harry into hell, all because you didn't want to upset your precious plans."
Dumbledore didn't respond immediately. His hands gripped the edge of a nearby table, his gaze flickering between the Potters, as if weighing his next words carefully. "I did what I thought was right. I couldn't predict everything that would happen, but I had to protect Adrian. The prophecy said nothing about Harry's safety; it said nothing about what would happen if he wasn't in the right place."
"I thought the prophecy was meant to protect our son!" Lily snapped, stepping forward, her anger reigniting. "But no, it was all just about him—about Adrian! You put my baby through the worst years of his life for a chance at some greater good!"
James wasn't done either. "You knew how the Dursleys were! You knew, and you still left Harry with them!" His voice cracked with emotion. "You didn't even give him a real chance at a normal life. You could have done so much more—" He paused, his voice faltering. "Why? Why didn't you let him stay with us? Why didn't you protect him like you were supposed to?"
Dumbledore remained silent, his face an unreadable mask. Finally, he spoke, his voice small, "I thought it was for the best. I thought the protection of your bloodline, the one that Voldemort couldn't break, would be enough. I didn't... I didn't realize the cost." His words were soft, almost apologetic, but they were far too late to undo the damage he had caused.
"Enough with the excuses!" Harry's voice rang out, sharp and clear. "None of this matters now. What matters is fixing things. Adrian might have stopped Voldemort for now, but he's not invincible. I'm not invincible. We need to focus on what's next."
Lily looked over at her son, the anger in her expression fading slightly as she saw the determined look on his face. "You're right, Harry," she said quietly, finally turning her attention back to Dumbledore. "You've caused enough damage already. Now, it's time for you to help fix things. Starting with Adrian."
"Yes," Harry said, nodding in agreement. "We need to make sure he's not going through this alone. He deserves to know what happened to the people who cared for him, and he deserves to know he's not just a pawn in some grand scheme."
James's gaze softened as he looked at his son. "We'll figure this out, Harry. We'll make sure Adrian doesn't end up in the same mess we did. We won't let anyone use him."
Dumbledore sighed, shoulders sagging under the weight of the confrontation. "I will help in any way I can," he said quietly, though it was clear his words held less conviction now.
Lily gave him one last, seething look. "You'd better, Albus. Because if you think for a second we're letting you get away with what you've done, you're wrong."
"Yes, Snape," Harry said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Apparently, Snape's redemption was more important than clearing Sirius's name." He turned back to Dumbledore, his eyes narrowing. "And yet, you did nothing to help him. Not a trial, not even an attempt to right the wrong. You just left him in Azkaban, assuming the worst."
Lily's eyes widened in shock as she turned to Dumbledore. "You let him suffer there? For all these years? Without lifting a finger to help him?"
Dumbledore's gaze shifted uncomfortably. "Lily, it wasn't as simple as that—"
"Oh, don't give me that! Not after everything Harry's said!" Lily snapped, her voice tinged with fury. "Do you have any idea what it was like for him? You're supposed to be a protector, a mentor, and yet you let him rot in prison!"
Sirius stepped forward, shaking his head. "It was madness, Lily. But Harry... Harry was the one who saved me. Not Dumbledore. And I'm grateful for that."
Harry nodded, his voice steady despite the anger bubbling underneath. "I couldn't just leave him there. Not after everything he'd done for me. He didn't deserve that. So I made sure to fix it. And it worked." He looked at his parents, seeing the disbelief on their faces. "Sirius is free now, and I made sure everyone knew who the real traitor was."
James was still in shock. "But Dumbledore... he never even tried? Not even once?"
Dumbledore shifted, uncomfortable but still trying to maintain his calm demeanor. "Harry, you must understand, at the time—"
"At the time, you were too busy playing your game," Harry interrupted, his voice firm. "You couldn't even see past your own plans to do what was right."
Lily's anger flared again. "You let him be in prison all those years, and you let Harry suffer with the Dursleys, all because of your plans?!" She took a step forward, fists clenched. "And now you want to talk about 'what was best' for Harry, after all this?"
Sirius gave a grim chuckle, trying to ease the tension. "Dumbledore might have thought he knew best, but the truth is, Harry did more for me than anyone else ever could. I owe him my freedom."
Lily's gaze softened, the fire in her eyes slowly fading, replaced by a quiet pride. "Harry... You always did the right thing, even when no one else would. I'm so proud of you."
James, though still angry, looked at his son with a newfound respect. "You didn't give up, Harry. You never gave up on him."
Harry shrugged, the weight of it all pressing on his shoulders. "What else could I do? Sirius was family. He always was."
The room grew quiet again, but this time, it was a quiet of understanding. The past had been painful, full of mistakes, betrayals, and hurt. But now, with his family together, Harry felt like they could finally start to make things right. Voldemort was still out there, and the fight wasn't over, but at least now, he wasn't alone.
Lily placed a hand on Harry's shoulder, her voice soft. "We'll fix this. Together. No more mistakes."
The room fell into a heavy silence as the truth of Harry's words settled over them. James and Lily were still processing the devastating news, their minds struggling to reconcile the version of the world they once knew with the one Harry had just revealed to them. Harry's expression remained calm, his tone indifferent, but the sharpness in his eyes betrayed the weight of the emotions that were never fully expressed.
"Car accident," James repeated, his voice soft, as though testing the words. "And Petunia... she's really gone?"
Harry nodded, feeling an unfamiliar ache in his chest. "Yes. It happened years ago. I never got the chance to explain, and I didn't care to. They were cruel to me, and when they were gone, it was... easier. I didn't have to deal with them anymore."
Lily's face softened, her gaze filled with sorrow, but she quickly masked it with a protective determination. "I can't believe it. After everything... I never wanted that for you. I wish I could have been there."
"You were there," Harry said quietly, glancing at her. "In my heart. In the way I kept fighting. You and Dad... you both shaped me, even if I didn't know it."
Lily's eyes filled with unshed tears, and she reached for Harry, pulling him into a tight embrace. "I'm sorry, Harry. I'm so sorry you had to go through that alone. We should have been there for you."
James stepped forward, putting a hand on Harry's shoulder. "You're here now, son. And we're not going anywhere. No more being alone. We'll face everything together. All of us."
Harry looked at his parents, his heart full, though there was still so much to process. The anger, the grief, the questions—it was all tangled together. But this moment, this feeling of connection, was something he had longed for his whole life. It was something he would fight to protect.
"I don't even know where to begin," Harry said, looking from his parents to Sirius. "There's so much left to fix. So many things still broken."
Sirius gave him a small, understanding smile. "One step at a time, kiddo. One step at a time."
Harry nodded, taking a deep breath. "Right. One step at a time."
As the tension in the room slowly eased, Harry felt a sense of calm that he hadn't known in years. With his family now gathered around him, he could almost believe that they might be able to right some of the wrongs of the past, to mend what had been torn apart. But for now, he would hold onto this moment. For once, he was not alone.
"We'll fix this," Lily whispered, her hand still resting on his arm. "Together."
ooOoOoo ooOoOoo ooOoOoo ooOoOoo ooOoOoo ooOoOoo ooOoOoo ooOoOoo
Ron and Hermione stood by the door, observing the scene with a mix of amusement and curiosity. It was strange seeing Harry, so calm and comfortable, surrounded by his parents—especially after everything that had happened. The Potters had been through so much, and now, in this moment, there was a sense of peace.
Adrian's blush deepened as his mother's words sank in. He glanced nervously at Harry, who was now leaning back against the bed, arms crossed, his usual smirk back on his face.
"You still haven't forgiven me for that, have you?" Adrian muttered, his face turning redder by the second.
Harry raised an eyebrow. "For nearly killing me in a training session? I think I'll be holding that over your head for a while."
"Hey, you were fine," Adrian defended himself, rolling his eyes. "It wasn't like I actually meant to curse you into a wall. It's just... you know... a little bit of magic gone wrong."
"Just a little bit?" Ron quipped, unable to hide the grin on his face. "You nearly killed him, Adrian."
Lily chuckled softly, reaching out to ruffle Adrian's hair. "Boys and their magic. You'd think they'd be more careful." Her eyes softened as she turned to Harry, her expression filled with pride. "But you're alright, aren't you? You've got your family here now."
Harry nodded, his gaze shifting from his parents to Adrian. "I'm fine, Mum. And thanks to you, Dad," he added, his voice growing more serious. "For helping me get through this. And for being here. It means more than you know."
James smiled warmly, his eyes full of affection. "Always, son. We're here for you, no matter what."
Adrian's expression shifted as he took in the interaction. He could see the bond between Harry and his parents, the way they had all come together after everything that had happened. Despite the differences between Harry's Slytherin house and his Gryffindor one, it was clear that the love they shared was far stronger than any house rivalry.
"So, what's next for you two?" Hermione asked, breaking the silence. She was still in awe of the situation, but she was also eager to hear what plans Harry and Adrian had for the future.
"I'm going to be a part of this fight," Harry said, his voice steady and determined. "I've spent too long sitting back. We have a lot of work to do, and I'm not going to let it slip away again. Voldemort's not the only threat out there."
Adrian nodded firmly. "We've got each other's backs. It's time we finished what we started."
Lily's smile faltered slightly, her expression turning serious. "Just be careful, both of you. It's dangerous out there. I don't want to lose either of you again."
"We won't let that happen, Mum," Adrian reassured her.
Harry met his mother's gaze. "I promise, Mum. We're in this together."
With a final, lingering glance at his parents, Harry turned to Adrian. "We'll do it right this time. Together."
"Let's just say Ron's mother is very... expressive," Harry explained with a grin, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
Ron groaned, rubbing the back of his neck. "Thanks, Harry. Really."
Lily's laughter echoed through the room, and even James had to wipe away a tear from his eye. "Molly the Mouth, huh? Sounds like something I'd call her, too."
"She was always so loud," Lily added, still chuckling. "But it was part of what made her... well, her."
Ron raised an eyebrow. "I feel like I'm missing a lot of context here."
Hermione gave him a sideways look. "You're not the only one."
"Moving on," Adrian interrupted, eager to steer the conversation in another direction. "This is Neville Longbottom." He gestured to the small group of students who had just entered the room. Neville gave a polite nod to the Potters, his usual shy demeanor softened by the comfortable atmosphere.
"Nice to meet you," Neville said, his voice steady, but there was a slight flush to his cheeks.
James smiled warmly at Neville. "Ah, Longbottom. You've grown up quite a bit, haven't you? I remember you being a bit nervous back in school. Looks like that's changed."
"Yeah, he's a Gryffindor now," Adrian said with a proud grin. "Wouldn't be here if he wasn't."
Lily's eyes softened as she watched her son, and she glanced at James, who gave her a knowing smile. "I'm glad to see all of you together," she said, her voice gentle. "Harry's friends are his family, too. It's good to see you all supporting each other."
Adrian looked at Harry, who gave him a small nod of approval. It was strange, seeing his family come together like this, after so many years of confusion and chaos. He knew there was still a long road ahead, but at least now, they had each other.
"So, what's next?" Ron asked, trying to shift the mood. "What are we doing? I mean, are we actually going after Voldemort this time, or is there a new plot twist we haven't been told about?"
Harry sat up a little straighter, his expression serious. "We're not wasting any more time. Voldemort's still out there, and now that we know we're not facing this alone, it's time to take the fight to him."
"Right," Adrian added. "We've got a plan, and we'll make sure everyone is ready. But first, we need to figure out how we're going to deal with the Death Eaters."
"You'll have us for that," Neville chimed in, his voice filled with determination. "We're not letting this go any longer."
Hermione nodded. "We're in this together. All of us."
Lily exchanged a glance with James, both of them silent for a moment before James spoke up. "Just remember, kids. No matter how dark it gets, you've got your family with you. And that's all you really need."
Harry smiled at his father, the weight of the moment settling over him. "Thanks, Dad."
"Yeah," Adrian said quietly, his eyes shining with determination. "We're going to finish this."
Lily blinked in surprise, processing the information. "Wait, you're the Boy-Who-Lived?" she asked, her voice filled with a mixture of curiosity and disbelief. "But... I thought that was Harry."
"Well, it kind of is," Adrian said with a shrug. "But I survived the curse too. I guess you could say I was part of it, like Harry." He shot a quick look at Harry's empty spot before continuing. "I mean, Voldemort's curse wasn't just meant for Harry, right? It hit both of us."
James tilted his head, processing Adrian's words. "So you both survived it? But what about the rest of it, what happened after? How did you end up here?"
Adrian took a deep breath, his usual confidence momentarily faltering. "It's a long story. But we've been fighting the same fight, just in different ways. Harry's been there through most of it, trying to figure out how to stop Voldemort for good. As for me... well, I've had my own challenges."
Lily and James exchanged a glance, both clearly impressed by Adrian's calm demeanor and maturity. "We've been through a lot," James said quietly, "but this is all... strange. I never imagined any of this."
"Don't ever talk about my mother like that," Harry growled, his voice low and dangerous. The other two men stepped forward, but Harry's eyes locked onto them, his stance ready for a fight. He wasn't alone, and he wasn't about to let them get away with this.
"Harry, get back!" Adrian called, reaching for his wand. He was still processing the situation, but his instincts kicked in. Hermione and Ron were already drawing their wands, their faces set in determined lines.
The leader groaned, wiping blood from his mouth as he tried to stand, but Harry was quicker, pointing his wand straight at him. "Stupefy!" he shouted. A jet of red light hit the man square in the chest, knocking him back into the wall with a heavy thud.
"Nice shot, Harry," Ron said, grinning as he aimed his wand at one of the remaining men.
"Expelliarmus!" Hermione cried, disarming the second man, sending his wand flying across the room.
The third man hesitated, clearly weighing his options. But before he could act, James, now fully awake and furious, jumped into action. "Petrificus Totalus!" he shouted, and the third man was frozen in place, unable to move.
Lily breathed out a shaky breath, her hand on her chest. "I thought... I thought you were supposed to be resting," she muttered, but the relief in her voice was palpable.
"Well, I was, but these idiots have a bad sense of timing," Harry said, looking over at Adrian and giving him a grin. "You've got to be quicker on the draw, mate."
Adrian smiled, despite the gravity of the situation. "I'll work on that, don't worry."
"We need to get these scum out of here," James said, moving toward the incapacitated men. "I'll take care of them."
"You're not going anywhere," Lily warned, though her tone was playful. "I'm not letting you go off and get into trouble right after waking up."
"All right, all right," James said with a grin. "You win. But you're not keeping me from making sure these guys can't hurt anyone else."
Harry nodded in agreement, turning to Adrian. "It's good to have you here, mate. But next time, we're doing this together, right?"
"I'm making sure he doesn't get up again," Harry said with a small shrug, his face a mixture of calm and determination. "He won't be a threat anymore, I promise."
Lily's eyes widened in shock, her hand flying to her mouth. "Harry! You can't—" she started, but then stopped herself, taking in the sight of the incapacitated man. The leader was now sprawled out, unable to move, his face contorted in pain from Harry's well-placed kick.
"Harry, that was a bit much, don't you think?" Ron asked, stepping cautiously forward. He had never seen Harry so… deliberate in his actions before.
"I'm just making sure he doesn't try anything else," Harry replied, his voice cool but firm. "No one hurts my family, not again."
James, still looking impressed, chuckled from where he stood. "Well, I've got to admit, that was one way to handle it. I think you've got your mother's temper, mate."
"Thanks, Dad," Harry said, rolling his eyes. "I try my best."
Adrian, still standing close to the others, couldn't help but laugh, though he looked a bit nervous. "Yeah, you definitely got that right. I don't think anyone's going to mess with you again after that."
"Good," Harry muttered, stepping back to check on the fallen men, making sure they weren't going to try anything else. "I'm not here to play games."
Lily took a deep breath, finally standing up, though she looked slightly pale from the shock of the situation. "We need to figure out who these people are and what they were trying to do. I won't let anyone get to my family like this."
"Agreed," James said, his voice steady despite the situation. "But first, let's make sure these idiots don't have anything else up their sleeves. Harry, you're sure they're not getting up anytime soon, right?"
"They're done," Harry confirmed, his tone calm now, but his gaze sharp. "I'll make sure they stay that way until someone comes to clean up."
"You really are your father's son, Harry," Lily said softly, a small smile finally tugging at her lips.
"And your son, Mum," Harry replied, his smile a bit more sincere as he sat down beside them again. "I'll always make sure you're safe."
Lily's heart swelled with emotion as she looked at Harry, his words cutting through the air with an intensity she hadn't expected. Her protective instincts as a mother were at odds with the fierce, unyielding person her son had become.
"Harry, I know you want to protect us, but you can't let anger take over," Lily said gently, her voice soft but firm. She reached for his hand, her touch a reminder of the connection between them. "You have so much of your father in you, but you also have a lot of me in you too. I know you can be strong without losing yourself."
Harry's gaze softened as he looked at her, the fire in his eyes dimming just slightly. He nodded slowly, his grip on his wand loosening as he took a deep breath. "I know, Mum. It's just… when I see people hurting you, it's hard to stay calm."
"I understand," Lily said, squeezing his hand. "But we're here together now. We're stronger than we've ever been. And we'll keep fighting, without letting anger control us."
Ron, Adrian, and Hermione stood quietly, watching the exchange between mother and son. They understood the depth of the emotions running through Harry, and they knew that the struggle to balance strength with compassion was one Harry had been wrestling with for a long time.
"Harry," Ron said, breaking the silence, "you did what needed to be done. But your mum's right—there are other ways to deal with this. We've got each other now. No one's getting hurt again."
Adrian, his expression thoughtful, nodded. "We're all in this together, Harry. You don't have to carry the weight of it all alone."
Harry let out a deep breath, his gaze moving from one friend to the next. They were right. They had fought side by side, and they would continue to do so. He gave his parents one last look, his face softening with a mixture of love and determination.
"Alright," he said, finally lowering his wand. "I'll stop. But I'm still not letting anyone mess with my family."
James, who had been silently observing the conversation, finally spoke up. "That's the spirit, Harry. We're all here for each other, and we'll keep fighting, together."
Lily smiled, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Thank you, all of you. You're more than just friends to Harry—you're family."
With a quiet nod from each of them, the tension in the room eased, and for a fleeting moment, the weight of the world seemed just a little lighter. They had faced danger, but more importantly, they had stood together, united by their bond and their love for each other. And that made all the difference.
