A/N2: One final shoutout to my anonymous reviewer! Thanks so much. :) I'm so glad you've enjoyed it.
Chapter 41
Eighteen Months Later…
It had seemed like a whirlwind, although it had been quite a long while since Elphaba and Fiyero had left the Emerald City. They'd been married now for six months. All of the dignitaries from all over Oz had come to the ceremony. The last royal wedding in the Vinkus had been Fiyero's parents, so to say that everyone was expecting a spectacle, would have been an understatement.
It was indeed an event that many would not forget. It had been difficult to not upstage Glinda's wedding, but the blonde didn't seem to care. She and Bayram were dancing and partying away, just incredibly happy for their friends.
Timothy and Damla welcomed their little girl about three months before the wedding. They named her Feyza Elphaba Schultz. The green woman was flattered but also pleased that they had chosen to use Damla's grandmother's name before hers. Little Feyza would be able to forge her own path without the famous name.
Corporal William Roth had been granted a position as part of Fiyero's personal guard. The King and Queen had been impressed that he'd wanted to follow their son, much like Timothy had. It had been an added bonus that Fiyero had already tried to mold the young soldier into a fit Vinkun soldier. The Gale Force would miss that kind of training, but they were now Zetti's to handle.
Mopsi and Popsi wrote often and promised to join them after the first of the year. They intended to spend Lurlinemas with their families and Elphaba told them to take their time. The couple owed them a lot, but they didn't want the two Munchkins to give up any more of their family time than they already had.
"Miss Elphaba…" Chistery's voice broke into Elphaba's thoughts. Her pondering about the last months had just been a way to avoid the paperwork on her desk.
"Everything ok Chistery?" She asked.
"I was going to ask you," he said.
"What do you mean?" The green woman was confused.
"I've been standing in the doorway for five minutes and you didn't notice," the Flying Monkey admitted.
"To say I'm distracted would be an understatement," Elphaba shook her head.
"Are you feeling all right?" Chistery was still concerned.
"Honestly, I think I'm coming down with something. I just don't feel well," she confessed.
"They have a nice Royal Physician here. He may not be Doctor Talib but he's not bad," he said.
"You're right. Off I go," Elphaba said but as she stood up, she suddenly felt dizzy.
"Nope!" Chistery caught her before she fell over. He scooped her up and took to the air, heading down to the infirmary. To say that people spotting a Flying Monkey actually flying down the Palace hallways, carrying the Princess, was not something you'd ever see, then you might as well be saying that Glinda was as tall as her husband. No one would believe such a story unless they'd seen it with their own eyes.
"What's going on?" Fiyero burst into the infirmary only a few minutes later. Corporal Roth was right behind him and it could be guaranteed that others would be down there soon.
"The Princess is a little under the weather. I'm running a few tests," Doctor Nezih explained. Fiyero looked down at his wife and admitted to himself that her green wasn't as green as it usually was.
"Did you keep down breakfast?" Nezih wondered.
"No, I haven't for the last few days actually," she confessed.
"Fae," Fiyero was immediately concerned that she was hiding it from him.
"I thought it was stress. We've been going non-stop except for our honeymoon," Elphaba pointed out.
"She has a point. A little vacation might do her some good," the doctor figured before he headed off to check the tests on her blood sample. He didn't take a lot of blood as he worried that the Princess could have a circulation issue based on her dizziness or she hadn't replenished her liquids after throwing up.
"Oh Fae," Fiyero was sitting next to her bed, holding her hand.
"I'm sorry Yero," she apologized.
"No need to be sorry. I know you want to impress the people of the Vinkus, but I don't want that if it's going to make you ill," he said.
"Well, she's not exactly ill…" the doctor spoke up. He had a big smile on his face. Elphaba raised an eyebrow and gave him a look. She most definitely did not feel well.
"What do you mean?" Fiyero asked.
"She's pregnant," Nezih continued to smile. He expected whoops and hollers but instead got stunned silence. He had been made aware of what Doctor Talib had discovered and he thought this would be good news.
"I'm what now?" Elphaba was sure that she'd heard him wrong.
"You're going to have a baby," the doctor told her.
"Yero…" she could feel him tighten his hand on hers. He pulled her close and kissed her. When they parted, he left his forehead on hers.
"The treatment worked. I can't believe it. This is great news," he was all smiles.
"I think we need to get some more fluids into her and get some more food as well. Then we'll just have to monitor her closely and keep her stress levels down. We're not out of the woods yet but we're getting there," Nezih said.
"Thank you, Doctor. I'm still trying to process it," Elphaba admitted. That's when the doors to the infirmary busted open and the King and Queen came through with Timothy and Damla right behind them.
"Is everything all right?" The Queen was nervous.
"More than all right, I'm going to be a dad. We're going to be parents!" Fiyero's first exclamation of excitement made everyone bust out into smiles and giving of congratulations. Elphaba found that she couldn't help smiling either. Her life was finally going to be complete. She was finally getting her "Happy Ever After."
The End
