Hey guys! First off I wanna say sorry about the late update, but I had a ton of stuff going on in my life with my job and rent. Yeah, adult life is hard but at least I still

lots of years before I croak, so I'm gonna use those years to create entertainment like a normal person. Anyway without further ado, here's chapter 2 finally!

Also, thanks everybody for reviewing my other fic. Much appreciated.

Chapter 2:

The news of the missing wolves and Buck's harrowing tale had sent shockwaves through the pack. Kaz, the dark gray-furred fierce and respected leader, wasted no time in assembling his strongest wolves for a search party to confront this legendary "Demon." As the pack leader, he is the strongest, wisest, and and most cunning wolf in his domain. He has led this pack for so many years that people forget how old he really is. As the grandson of Wor the Wolf King himself, all the wolves knew that it was destiny for Kaz to become the next alpha.

He heard of his grandfather's death by some birds in the trees, who found Wor's lifeless body at a human farm. Ever since he heard the news, that someone actually found a way to kill the great Wolf King, he spent years wondering what struck the killing blow. Hearing news about some of his pack members' tragic ends, he couldn't help but get this strange feeling of déjà vu.

Hours have passed and it is now nightfall. Kaz is pacing around waiting for all the wolves to come to the council rock and gather for a group meeting. Every wolf, including Ainu and his mother, all arrive at the rock after hearing the siren howl. It was the full moon, which helped with natural light. Kaz stands on all fours on a giant rock, while all the other wolves sit in a crowded circle. Sitting a few feet away behind Kaz is his mate, Sora, a beautiful snow-white she-wolf, just looking at everything around her before her husband started to speak.

"Ahem! Good evening, my fellow wolves! I know it's late and I am sorry to call a meeting at this hour, but I'm afraid that now is as good a time as any. I'm sure by now that all of you have heard the tragic news. And yes, it is… unfortunate. Ray, Fido, and Bugs were great warriors. Great hunters. Great sons. Great Husbands. Hell, they were great fathers, too." Kaz looks down in sadness. "I, uh, wish they weren't so stubborn and naïve all the time. Always taking things for granted. Always getting into trouble." He chuckles. "Who am I kidding? Weren't we all like that when we were young, boys?" Some of the wolves in the crowd laughed. It is never a sin to laugh at funeral. "But I will give them this, though. Despite all their faults, they were always so brave. So full of life, wonder, and ambition. I couldn't ask for better hunters and I know that you all feel the same way.'

The crowd murmured in agreement. Those three troublemaking wolves were some of the top hunters in the pack. Once a team of four best friends, now down to one. Buck is the sole surviving member, and he has to live with guilt until it's his time. Three female wolves cried together for the mates they have lost and their little cubs that sat with them mourn their fathers.

Ainu looked at the group of broken families and couldn't help but sympathize with them. After all, he never really knew his father despite being at the age where wolves are still being nurtured, trained, and loved by both parents. His death before Ainu's birth was a tragic day, but Ainu still had his mother, Kiba, and that was all he could ever ask for. Despite his happy childhood, he is still a weak pup and he'll need all the help he can get if he wants to stay in the pack.

"Now," Kaz continued. "Let us all take a moment of silence to honor our fallen comrades and friends." Every wolf on the mountain bowed their heads, though with some of the females still weeping. A long, silent moment begins to pass. "Thank you. Now then, allow me to get right down to the point of this meeting: What do we do about this? Because as you know, as one of the elite wolf packs in these plains, we cannot let this incident go unpunished. Because according to Buck, the three wolves were not hunted. They were not eaten. They weren't even captured or sold as pets! They were… murdered. By a ram."

The wolves murmured at that statement, some talked in concerned, some in denial, and some in anger. Other wolves sounded afraid of the thought of a ram killing three wolves in cold blood. It just doesn't happen! The laws of nature has always been survival of the fittest; the strong eating the weak. The mere thought of a sheep being able to kill a wolf so easily is often told in horror stories to get your kids to stop eating your fresh kill.

The crowd starting to get louder. One male wolf yells, "This has gotta be a prank! No herbivore can kill a carnivore. What's next a bird killing a mountain lion?" The joke generates laughter around the wolf.

"Yeah! Or a bunny stomping a bear to death!" Another one joke, creating more chuckles.

"Or a deer chasing an eagle!"

"Or maybe-"

"ENOUGH!" Kaz's white-coated mate screams out at the top of her lungs as she stands up, silencing the next quip from another ignorant dog. The council grows silent in fear. "This is no laughing matter! So shut up and listen or you will face my wrath!" Sora was breathing heavily, scaring the silent audience. "Thank you. Dear?" She smiles and then sits back down.

"Um, thank you honey. Anyway, whether you want to believe if it's true or not is up to you. The fact of the matter is that there is something out there that took out three grown well-trained wolves without much effort. Which I why I call a search party to find who is responsible and bring… punishment." Kaz gave a furious-but-determined glare as he said that last word. "I will travel to the 'farm' with two of my top wolves and Buck as our guide. And we won't be back until we bring you this 'Demon Ram'. And when we do, we will all feast on him in honor of our fallen brothers. And it will be a feast told throughout generation!"

The entire pack cheered at the amazing speech their great alpha gave. The way he said all that with such confidence. Such passion! The wolves of the Great Domain would avenge Ray, Fido, and Bugs and will never have to live in fear of the Demon. Every wolf became happy and motivated to hunt down this monster live in peace in the land.

Ainu looked up to his mother, who unlike the crowd, had a worried look. "Mom. What's wrong?"

Kiba looked down at her son in surprise. "What? Oh, nothing sweetie. It's alright. Everything is going to work out fine!"

"Really? Because the Demon sounds pretty-"

"Ainu, no demon or ram is going to keep bullying this pack. That's a promise! Not while you mom is around!"

"Yippee!" Ainu bounced in excitement at her mother's fierce and brave attitude. However, Kiba was only trying to cheer her son up. For as strong and cunning as she is, not even she can predict the future.

Notes:

* "Kiba" means "fang" in Japanese.

* This scenery in this chapter is mostly inspired from the anime Jungle Book: Shonen Mowgli.

* I came up the names of the three wolves at random.

* Don't worry, Chirin's coming. All I ask if your patience.
