Random talk: Hey all! So this fic will sadly be discontinued. The problem is really a stupid one, but is also the reason why I wanted to make one more chapter. Since this fic was based off an original story, I had to line up characters from GX to my original characters. The strange part is that my favorite character from GX (Fubuki) lined up perfectly with my favorite in my original story. At least, at first. The more and more I developed the story in my head, the more I realized Fubuki being this character was screwing up how I was seeing the original story.
I wanted to at least give this fic one more chapter to introduce Fubuki so I can further explain what the issue was. I will also give details on how the major points and other roles characters would have had at the end. I also kinda rushed it at points so it's not my best writing. I mostly wanted to get this last chapter out to explain stuff.
Angelic Duels
Turn 3
The Return of the Princess
Johan sat in silence as the thought about the previous night. He had seen Ryo and Yusuke in the halls before then and never sensed they were myths. It was obvious now why since they were high-ranking in their clans and would have charms that would protect them. With that knowledge, the Guardian had to rethink his initial observation. There was no way to get a true count of how many myths were in attendance of the school unless they willingly came forward. That is, unless he could get into the school records as they couldn't lie on those.
"Hey, earth to Johan!" Judai yelled, waving his hand in front of Johan's face. Johan blinked and shook his head as he snapped out of his thoughts. Judai grinned at the reaction.
"Sorry, I was thinking," Johan said with a smile. "What is it?"
"Well, we don't have class today so we thought we would meet up with Asuka and Misawa to make a plan to find Asuka's brother!" Judai said excitedly.
"Not to mention lunch is waiting for us," Sho added.
"Sounds good," Johan said. "I do have some questions for you, Sho. I need to know about the myths here."
"Um, I could try," Sho said with a blush. "Ryo never told me much, but I do know some things from when he would talk to our father about what was happening."
The dining area was empty when the three entered, strange considering it was the weekend. Johan figured it was due to it still being the first week and the first day there was no classes so everyone was off exploring. It was also towards the end of lunch, meaning everyone else probably ate. One thing Johan had to admit was that the food in the human world was really delicious.
"So, Sho, I thought I had a good idea of who were myths and who were not," Johan said in-between bites. "I understand why I wasn't able to pick up on your myth heritage as it hasn't awakened. I can also tell your brother is high-ranking as he must have a charm to hide the fact he is a werewolf."
"Er, yeah," Sho said as he got quiet and stopped eating. "Our father is one of the top werewolves in Japan, so we get to have protection charms as his sons. I have one just in case my blood wakes up, which I doubt since I'm 16 already. It's rare, but there have been some that transformed for the first time in their 20's."
"Don't lose hope, I'm sure you'll wake up!" Judai said, wrapping his arm around Sho's shoulder. Sho smiled and nodded in agreement. In the short amount of time he knew Judai, the brunet never failed to cheer him up when he needed it.
"Do you know how many high ranking myths are here?" Johan asked. "I just need an accurate count in case something happens."
"Ryo would have a better idea," Sho mussed. "From what I remember, because of how important he was he knows who exactly was human and who was myth. Now that I think about it, I remember him mentioning how a lot of the students in his original dorm were high-ranking myths."
"Wait, he wasn't always in Obelisk Blue?" Judai asked.
"Well, he was technically in it, but there was a special dorm for the top students," Sho said, thinking hard about what his brother told him. "It just so happened that a lot of them were myths also. Wait, maybe Asuka might be able to help! Remember how she said her brother was best friends with mine before he disappeared?"
"It would be unheard of for a human to know so much," Johan pointed out. "But it doesn't hurt to ask!"
"Thanks again for offering to help," Asuka said with a smile once everyone had gathered. "Ryo and Yusuke are still in a bad mood so they won't be coming. Not to mention they said how much the abandoned dorm brings back bad memories."
The group consisted of Asuka, Judai, Johan, Sho, and Manjoume, all standing outside of the gates to the abandoned dorm. While they had plans to meet after lunch, Asuka got held up by her friends wanting help with homework. They ended up having to wait until after dinner to even have a chance to go. It did mean they had to sneak out, but they felt it would be worth it.
"So, should we split up?" Judai asked. "I'll go with Johan and Sho and Asuka and Manjoume could go together. That way we can cover more ground!"
"M-me and Asuka?" Manjoume said while blushing.
"That should work," Asuka said. She dug through the bag she brought to pull out a pair of walkie talkies and handed one to Sho. "I thought these would be helpful. I have them set to the same channel already, so they're set to go. If either of us find something, contact the other group about it."
"Right, sounds like a plan," Johan said before leading the group into the building. "By the way, I just realized you never shown us what your brother looks like. I couldn't find a picture of him anywhere in fact. I thought he was one of the top students with Ryo and Yusuke."
"Um, here is one of his favorites," Asuka said. She pulled out an autographed headshot of a teen with long dark brown hair and brown eyes. His uniform was in a similar style as Ryo and Yusuke, probably showing his rank in the school. "I honestly have no clue why it's his favorite, probably because he looks like our mom here."
"Huh, I wonder why everyone calls him the Blizzard Princess," Sho muttered as he looked at the image. "He doesn't look like any princess I've seen. Maybe a prince."
"It's... complicated," Asuka said. "Look, we need to start looking for any hints. I'll explain later but we're wasting time right now."
Surprisingly, the abandoned dorm was fairly large compared to how it first looked outside. While Judai and Sho took time looking around each room they passed, Johan felt the urge to go a particular way. The feeling was similar to the black blur that ran into him that first day. He knew he should mention something, but Johan wanted to try and figure out what exactly he was sensing.
They eventually stopped at a set of stairs going to a basement level of sorts. It was obvious to Johan that his answers were down there. He saw Judai was about to head down, making him thrusting his arm to stop his friend from going. Holding out his hand to Sho, the shorter teen knew what the Guardian wanted and placed the walkie talkie into the waiting hand.
"Asuka, I think we found something," Johan said into the device, ever thankful they showed him how to use it.
"What is it? Asuka's voice frantically asked through the communicator.
"There is a set of stairs that lead to the basement. I've been sensing whoever or whatever this black blur that knocked me off-course when I first arrived. I'm going down to make sure everything is okay."
"Wait, what? Black blur? Don't go down! We'll be there shortly!"
Johan ignored Asuka's pleas as he handed the walkie talkie back to Sho before he started to make his way down the stairs. He could hear Judai following closely and Sho's cries for them to stop. There was no way Johan was going to stop, he needed to know if what was down there was a danger to everyone on the island or not.
When Johan and Judai reached the bottom, they could see a figure in black with their back to them. Once Johan saw the large black wings, tail, and horns, he knew what he was dealing with. To find one here of all places was unheard of as their kind tended to kept to themselves. Not to mention to have their myth identifiers was highly out of the usual.
"What took you so long to find me, Guardian-san?" the figure chuckled.
"I should ask what brings a dragon like you to this island?" Johan asked. The figure just smirked in reply.
"Wait, a dragon!?" Judai yelled. "Aren't dragons huge and, like, a lizard or something?"
The figure turned around, his long trench coat swishing somehow unobstructed by the wings and tail. A mask covered his eyes, but they could still see the smirk on his face. Long black hair added to the dark look they had. They couldn't shake the familiarity they got from the one before them, but didn't dare to voice their thoughts. The sight of the figure's Duel Disk activating made Judai get excited.
"Care for a duel?" the figure asked. "I'm bored and you seem you might be fun."
"Didn't your mother teach you any manners?" Judai asked as he activated his Duel Disk. "It's only polite to introduce yourself before you duel. I'm Judai."
"Heh, Mother isn't the best example for manners," the figure said. "You may call me Darkness."
Johan watched as the duel progressed, fascinated at the skills both sides had. He used that time to get a feel for the mysterious dragon that called himself Darkness. They never denied he was a dragon, but nothing made sense. While dragons would take a human form if they had to blend in with the public, they rarely took a form that combined the two like Darkness did. There was one exception to this trend, but the chances Darkness fit this exception was slim.
"FUBUKI!" they heard a yell full of rage coming from up the stairs during one of Judai's turns. Darkness froze as ice crept along the floor from the stairs towards him. Johan barely had time to pull Judai out of the way before Asuka skated by and throwing something at Darkness.
"Wait, Asuka!" Darkness yelled as he held up his arms as a large snowball hit him. He fell backwards as it looked like he disappeared in the snow.
"Asuka, wait up!" Manjoume yelled before appearing from the stairs with Sho following closely. "Why did you run off? And what's with the ice powers?"
"Where the hell have you been, Nii-san!?" Asuka yelled at the large pile of snow. "And what is with the getup? You know using the charm drains your energy to the point you will sleep for days on end!"
"Oh, come on, 'Suka! I just wanted to have fun!" a younger voice came from the pile as it moved. Once the snow cleared from the mound, a child that looked similar to Darkness appeared. Every detail was the same as the duelist, but now in a ten-year-old form. He pulled off his mask with a pout to reveal red eyes.
"Don't 'Suka me!" Asuka said with a glare. "Dad had no clue what happened and Mom won't tell us anything! I had to beg them to let me come here to look for you!"
"I honestly have no clue," Darkness, now known as Fubuki sighed. "The last thing I remember from two years ago was coming down here. The next thing I remember was I was with Grandma telling me I needed training and that she was going to tell Mom."
"I see, you're not just a dragon, you're a half dragon!" Johan suddenly exclaimed. "That explains why you have dragon aspects while still human. You also have to be high ranking if you have a charm that can alter you appearance for a set amount of time!"
"Ooo! Guardian-san is smart!" Fubuki said with a smile. "I shouldn't expect less! Yeah, you could say our mother is pretty high up along with our grandmother."
"And he looks like a kid why?" Judai asked.
"Half dragons have a curse on them," Sho answered. "Ryo mentioned it once. Something about a half dragon long time ago did something bad so all of them have their power suppressed by making them take a child form. Depending on their ranking, they can get several items that can help them blend in for a set time."
"Aw, you have such smart friend, Asuka!" Fubuki gushed. He finally got up from the snow and looked around at it. "Huh, Dad help you with your powers? You couldn't make this much before."
"Yeah, though Mom was surprised considering he's more attuned to fire," Asuka sighed. She looked over to the others and saw their confused faces. Realization hit her and blushed. "So our mom is actually a half dragon as well. Dad is an elemental mage with a specialty of fire. Mine is ice."
"I was always curious what would happen if a half dragon were to have offspring," Johan said. "Especially if it was with another myth. There isn't a lot of information in regards to half dragons."
"I'll be happy to answer them later!" Fubuki chirped right before he started to sway. "Yeah, definitely later. I-I'm about to pass out."
Everyone rushed towards the half dragon to try and catch him. Asuka was the one to prevent her brother from face planting on the floor. No one knew what to say as they stared at the unconscious form. It was Sho to break up the silence.
"Well, I guess he kinda does look like a princess in that form."
Random talk: So ends the last chapter I will write for this fic. There was a lot planned, but Fubuki and Asuka kinda ruined it. The characters they were based off of from my original story actually hate each other. Just the idea of stand-ins for them getting along and actually caring for one another was way too weird for me and just ruined any plans for this fic. Not to mention I had to figure out new rules on how half dragons work in terms of children since the character Fubuki takes inspiration is a first generation half dragon (father is dragon and mother is human). Basically, if a dragon has a child with anyone other than another dragon, the child is a half dragon. When a half dragon has a child with anyone other than a dragon, half dragon, or human, the child has a 50/50 chance of being either a half dragon or whatever the other parent is. These odds do not decrease as the generations go down. If the half dragon has a child with a dragon, half dragon, or human, the child will always be a half dragon. Yeah, genetics don't work that way, but they're part magic so there.
There was supposed to have another chapter before this, introducing Rei. Rei was going to be a cat demon princess with Misawa also a cat demon from the same clan, but a high-ranking guard. She was going to hang out with everyone with Misawa keeping an eye on her. He was also engaged with Tania, but there was no plan for her to show up in person only mentioned. Only Rei's role existed in my story, Misawa's role was created for this fic.
Manjoume was human but part of a clan called Protectors that acted like a human version of Guardians. They try to keep the peace between humans and myths, but myths just tolerate them instead of respect them. He kinda absorbed two roles from my original story (a brother and sister pair). His brothers would have represented the clan heads.
Sho's role was half created, half taken from the story as well. He took up the role of the brother character Manjoume had absorbed, only his part was the MC's best friend.
For the sake of this fic, I was also going to bring in my usual ship from Duel Monsters to take the role for Fubuki and Asuka's parents. If you didn't figure it out yet, Jonouchi was their dad and Kaiba was their mother. From their dragon linage, they are considered Dragon Lords which is basically the ruling class of the dragons. This is why Kaiba would be able to look human for longer periods despite also be a half dragon. There would have been heavy mpreg implications, but not said straight out. Kaiba and Jonouchi would have made an appearance as Kaiba needed to talk to Johan about danger coming, thus the reveal would have happened in the form of a Blue Eyes White Dragon randomly appearing to defend the gang. Fubuki and Asuka would complain about their parents being there.
When we get to the endgame, it is revealed that Judai is the one hosting the spirit of Haou (duh). Some random vampire (because they are the bad guys) gets Yusuke to help release Haou to wipe out the human race. It is also revealed that everyone is the reincarnation of Haou's generals from when he originally tried to kill all humans. All except Johan who was the reincarnation of a human Haou and his twin (who really was Judai) befriended. Humans ended up killing their friend, thus why Haou went crazy and tried to kill them all. Haou is able to switch a few to his side (mostly Fubuki and Yusuke as I couldn't figure out who would also work for this fic). Johan manages to wake up Judai's Guardian powers with the help of Yubel (after unsealing them), and they manged to wake Haou up from his rage.
Side note (since I couldn't figure out where to put this): the Fubuki who was one of Haou's general in the past is the reason for the curse on half dragons. When they stop Haou, the curse is broken and Fubuki looks his age yet still has the dragon aspects.
And that is basically the important parts of what would have happened if I did continue. I'm sorry for not being able to finish this, but I just can't find it in me to do so. I hope this was satisfactory enough to at least end any curiosity of what could have been.
