"This is normal speech"

This is a person thinking in their head

This is someone speaking telepathically or with Aura

("Pokemon Speak")

("Legendary Pokemon Speak")

Alright, so a few things before we go to the Tree of Beginnings,

Mew said as she levitated around the group. First off, the Tree itself is alive. It's a living organism that is wise, powerful, and doesn't really like strangers. So stay close to me at all times so that it can recognize you as a friend. Next, we're going to run into a lot of ancient looking Pokemon. They are actually the Tree's antibody system that has its Aura take the form of Pokemon to defend it. Do not speak to them, provoke them, or try to capture them. They are all dangerous. Especially the ones taking the form of a Regice, Registeel, and Regirock.

"Like the actual Legendary Giants?" Yukimura asked in awe.

No. Those three live in Hoenn where they do their other duties with Regigigas, Mew explained. It also takes a liquid form as well and if it does grab you it will devour you and turn you into pure Aura to feed on like soup. So no touchy unless you want end up like slurp.

"How do you know it does that?" Delia asked with a look of disturbance.

Let's just say more than one foolish human has tried to enter without permission. And rarely do they ever come out, Mew said with a sigh. I even tried leaving a sign that says "Enter And You Might Die" but that never works. What's the point of humans inventing writing if they're not going to read it right?

Are you sure you wish to do this, your Majesty? Leonidas asked Queen Ilene out of concern.

"Don't worry, Leonidas. I am sure no harm will come to us, "Queen Ilene answered with a warm smile.

There are also portals that teleport you to different locations of the Tree of Beginnings. Be careful when going through those or you may find yourself in a location you end up lost in and I hate to spend an hour looking for you only to find you in the bathroom, Mew huffed in annoyance. Lastly, there are what are known as Time Flowers that you'll see. They contain the Aura memories of those close to us that can be viewed before us like a video or movie. It's just holographic. Not real. Any questions?

"Where exactly are we going?" Ash asked.

The heart of the tree. Don't worry, it's the safest spot for us all, Mew said as she began to glow with psychic power. Everyone ready? Then hold onto your butts!

And in a flash of pink and white light, they were gone.

Beautiful was the only word everyone could describe upon seeing the inside of the Tree of Beginnings. After getting their bearings straight from the massive teleport, all were in awe, with wide eyes and open jaws, upon seeing the crystal-like trees and massive vegetation that looked like a paradise garden. A feeling of utter ancientness and peace enveloped them in the heavy atmosphere, and it felt like they were in an area of high altitude, but according to Mew, that was just the Aura surrounding the tree. Speaking of Aura, those who could sense it felt their senses going haywire by how heavy it was around them. It was like sinking into an entire ocean of Aura with waves flowing in all directions.

A few Pokemon were in the area, such as Ledyba, Ledian, Nidoran, Nidorino, Lileep, Cradily, and more. There was even the ancient Pokemon that Mew spoke of in the form of Omanyte, Omastar, and Armaldo. However, these were the forms of the Tree of Beginning's defense mechanism and not the real Pokemon. Regardless, Ash scanned them all with his Pokedex, and they were still classified as the actual Pokemon. Mew guided them through the significant pathway as Pokemon gave them a clearing. Some viewed them from a distance as many wondered who they were and what they were doing here, but since Mew was with them, they left them alone.

"Are you doing okay, Queen Ilene?" Nanny Jenny asked as she held a parasol for the Queen, who was looking around with sparkles in her eyes.

"I'm more than okay, Nanny. This is like a dream come true for me," Queen Ilene answered as she looked around to see the wondrous nature of the entire place. "It's so pretty."

"This is amazing," Delia whispered as she walked with her son. "I read stories of the Tree of Beginnings when I was a little girl. I never thought I'd be inside of it."

( "In all my travels with Red, the closest thing that came close to this type of atmosphere was Cerulean Cave. It was rumored a powerful Legendary Pokemon lived there, but all we found were crystals and ruins,") Sorren commented.

("I remember that trip. Some of the hardest Pokemon we fought at the time were there. Like that Tyranitar that almost killed Ignus,") Ranmaru recalled with a nostalgic thought.

"What happened?" Ash asked, as he never heard this story before.

("We were all weak from the previous battles when this Tyranitar showed up,") Ranmaru explained as she sighed with a shiver. ("Mystica and Helios were knocked out. I was hurt, and Sorren and Grand were the only ones standing with Ignus. The Tyranitar hit Ignus so hard he fell into a nearby lake.")

"A lake?!" Ash and Delia shouted in shock while others, listening in, were confused as to why that was a big deal until Ash said," But Ignus was a Charizard! Falling into any water that size is a death sentence because of their tail!"

("That's what we all thought. We all thought Ignus was dead, but Red dived in to save him. We thought he perished too, but then...something happened that I'll never forget for the rest of my life,") Sorren said with a big smile. ("The two of them came out of the lake, alive. Only Ignus was now black and blue, with blue flames coming out of his mouth. He had...evolved.")

Everyone who heard this stopped, even Mew, who gazed at the two Pokemon in shock. While it had only been a phenomenon for the past fifteen years, everyone knew what Mega Evolution was. A means beyond the normal evolution of Pokemon that lasted temporarily. To have such a thing happen, Pokemon and Trainers needed a united bond that was stronger than normal while also carrying a special stone that would allow them to turn into their Mega form.

Although past Mega Evolutions have happened in history, they have always been mysterious. Rarely was it possible for any Pokemon to Mega Evolve alone or without a Mega Stone. The only Pokemon publicly known to do that was the Legendary Pokemon of the Sky, Rayquaza.

"How was that even possible?" One Aura Knight asked confusedly after his Lucario partner told him what he had learned. "Did he have a Key Stone?"

No, Master Red didn't. I guess the bond he and Ignus had was enough, Ranmaru said, this time using Aura. It never happened again, not even during the Shadow War. It was the only time we had ever seen it.

"I wish I could have seen it," Ash wished as he thought about his father and Ignus.

Suddenly, some of the crystal-like flowers began to glow, which alerted everyone except Mew and Lucario. They blinked as a few Pokemon stepped out of the shade to see what was going on.

"What's happening?" One Aura Knight asked.

Relax, Mew said with a giggle. Remember what I said? The Tree of Beginnings stores memories from the Aura of those who use it in those crystal flowers known as Time Flowers. And since Mega Evolution has Aura tied into it, we're going to see something special.

Everyone watched as the Time Flowers began to emit some kind of light. A holographic image of a large, watery body was seen, and an unconscious Charizard—one larger than most—was sinking inside it, its flame slowly dying out.

("Ignus?!") Sorren and Ranmaru gasped in awe upon seeing a younger version of their old comrade and friend before them.

It's not him, Mew said. It's a memory of him. A view of the past.

A few seconds later, someone had dived into the water to chase after him, swimming down no matter how deep it went. He was a young teenager with black, spiky hair and black eyes. He also wore a red shirt over a white t-shirt, blue jeans, white-red sneakers, and a red and white cap with the symbol of a leaf on the left side. Delia cried out in shock and covered her mouth as tears appeared in her eyes. Sorren and Ranmaru went silent and nearly felt their legs buckle upon seeing who it was. A few looked at Ash and the figure before them upon seeing the resemblance as Ash stepped forward with his eyes widened and focused on the figure.

"...Dad?"

"Ignus!" Everyone looked around upon hearing the voice but soon recognized it was coming from the memory. "Ignus! Don't give up! Don't you dare give up! You and I... we've come this far. We're not going to die here. We still have so much to do. We have to win the League! We have to become champions! We're going to be the best!"

They saw Red grab the motionless Ignus by the arm to try to pull him up despite the weight of the giant fire Pokemon dragging him further down.

"So wake up! We're in this together! You and me! I told you before, on the day we met, and I'll tell you always. No matter what happens, no matter what the stakes are, no matter what condition we are in. I CHOOSE YOU!"

Suddenly, Ignus's eyes widened as his body began to glow along with a surprised Red. It was a golden rainbow-like color that overwhelmed them, and soon, Ignus glowed into a burst of energy as the bright light shined in the image. When it was gone, rising out of the water, with Red wrapped around his neck, was Ignus in Mega Charizard-X form. Ignus, fully powered thanks to his connection with Red, roared with determination.

However, the vision they were seeing soon ended, and everyone was silent.

"...Was that...Dad?" Ash whispered in awe.

"...It was...It was Red," Delia whispered with a soft smile as tears came down her eyes. "That was your father, Ash."

Azrael and Skye came to Ash's side, both on the ground and in the air, to nuzzle him as he looked down with his emotions moving inside him in so many ways it was hard to keep track. He had seen photos of his father before, but that was the first time he had heard his father's voice. It felt so...passionate...strong...and the fact that he dived into that water to save his partner…

He was everything everyone said he was, Ash thought with a small smile.

("...I haven't heard his voice in twelve years...") Ranmaru whimpered as she covered her eyes with her arm. Her sons gently wrapped their arms around her as she softly cried. Sorren did his best to keep it in, but he even shed a few tears.

Everyone watched the family mourning the loss of someone close to them in silence and respect. Mew slowly floated over to Ash and smiled softly at him. The Tree showed you a memory of your father because you wanted it. It responded to your Aura. It only ever does that to those of truly good hearts. The fact that it did that proves that you are a good person deep inside, Ash. And that I was right about you.

Ash couldn't help but hug Mew, who hugged him back as she wrapped her tail around him. Many were smiling at the scene, and Queen Ilene felt happy knowing that Sir Aaron's bloodline still contained the genuine noble-hearted kindness he was known for in his descendants. Lucian couldn't help but look at the scene where they had witnessed the trainer saving the Charizard. He couldn't help but think of how similar it was to a particular incident between him and Sir Aaron when they were young.

"Hey, they're reacting again!" someone said as they turned to the other side to see another set of Time Flowers reacting. A new scene was being shown before them, only this time it showed the same local area it was resonating the image from. It was as if the memory was taking place before them in the exact location but at a different time.

A young boy in ripped blue robes and travel gear was gently nursing a wounded Riolu, who had terrible cuts and bruises on him. The young boy had sharp black hair and piercing light blue eyes that shined like Aura. Lucian gasped and slowly stepped forward. ("M-M-Master?")

"That is...Sir Aaron as a boy?" Queen Ilene asked curiously as Lucian nodded.

"Stay still, Lucian," the young Aaron said as he poured water over a cloth and wrapped it around Riolu's arm. You need to stop moving so you can heal."

But we need to get back to others. We need to warn- The Young Lucian tried to get up but winced and rested on one of the crystals. We shouldn't even be here, Master. This is a sacred area. Only the Aura Masters are allowed to enter the Tree of Beginnings.

"Don't worry," Aaron said with a smile. "I'm sure they'll understand if we explain the situation. Besides, I'm not leaving you. We're partners. Now and forever."

...Thank you, Master, Lucian said with a smile.

Aww, this is so sweet!

The two gasped and looked up as Mew, from the past, appeared before them with a smile. Hi! I was wondering who it was that came in here. You kids lost?

" Arceus above...Lady Mew! " Aaron said with a wide smile. " It's an honor!"

Yup! That's me! Past Mew said with a pose. Why don't we heal you kids up and get you something to eat? You can tell me all about why you are here.

The image soon faded, as everyone couldn't help but be in awe at what they saw. Mew chuckled as she flew around a bit with a smile. Heh, I remember that day. It was when I sensed that he was something special—both of you, in fact.

("...Master,") Lucian whispered as he closed his eyes. He had always trusted Sir Aaron since they became partners, but that was the day he felt he could put his life in his hands. Ever since then, Lucian has always trusted and believed in Sir Aaron. He won his respect, friendship, and even his heart.

So why did you leave me to rot in that crystal? He asked in his mind before pushing all thoughts away.

("We should press on,") Lucian said as he continued to move down the path. Everyone stared at him for a bit but soon followed.

We're getting close to the Heart of the Tree of Beginnings, Mew said as she continued to guide them. The Three Giants, or at least the Tree's version of them, will be up ahead. Let me talk to them. Under no circumstances do anything to provoke them.

Everyone nodded as they traveled in tight quarters. Leonidas ordered everyone under his command to prioritize the Queen's safety. Delia even held onto Ash as Ranmaru and Sorren led their group while the kids stayed behind. Only Mew and Lucian went forward without fear. A few moments later, the group arrived at the Heart's entrance. It was a crystalized archway with sparkling vines as tall as the grand doors of the Palace's entrance.

Standing at the entrance, tall and intimidating, were the Tree's greatest guardians, who had taken the form of The Legendary Giants: Regirock, Registeel, and Regice.

They were huge, bulking, and composed of the elements they represented. Regirock looks so strong that he could crush their skulls with a simple slap of his rock-solid arms. Registeel seemed so shiny and thick that it would take a dozen bombs even to cause a crack. And Regice was so cold that even at this distance, they could feel its chill. Ash quickly pulled out his Pokedex to scan them:

Pokemon: Regirock (The Rock Peak Pokémon)

Gender: None

Type: Rock

Region of Origin: Hoenn

Biography: Regirock's body is made of a unique rock substance found from all over the world, and if something chips off in battle, it attaches rocks to repair itself. It is entirely composed of rocks with no sign of a brain or heart. It is a mystery even to modern scientists. It is said that Regirock can communicate in both Pokemon Speech but also a unique binary-like speech that can be translated in a rough sentence for those who understand advanced binary.

Pokemon: Registeel (The Iron Pokémon )

Gender: None

Type: Steel

Region of Origin: Hoenn

Biography: Its body is harder than any metal found on this planet, most likely from being tempered by underground pressure for thousands of years. Its body is also hollow, and its food source remains a mystery. Not only is it hard, it shrinks and stretches flexibly. It is said that Registeel can communicate in both Pokemon Speech but also a unique binary-like speech that can be translated in a rough sentence for those who understand advanced binary.

Pokemon: Regice (The Iceberg Pokémon )

Gender: None

Type: Ice

Region of Origin: Hoenn

Biography: Formed in the ice age, its body stays at a temperature of minus 328 degrees and cannot be melted, even by fire. Things will freeze solid just by going near this Pokémon. Its icy body is so cold, it will not melt even if it is immersed in magma. It is said that Registeel can communicate in both Pokemon Speech but also a unique binary-like speech that can be translated in a rough sentence for those who understand advanced binary.

Their glowing and blinking "eyes" (if one was to call them that) activated as they slowly moved forward with everyone gulping upon seeing the giants move slowly, but with great force.

("Alert. Intruders,) Regirock said.

("Engage intruders,") Registeel stated.

("Eliminate intruders,") Regice voiced.

Hold up! Mew said as she zipped forward in front of them. Override Guardian Protocol. User: Mew. Activate Friendly Mode.

The three all started beeping like computers before lowering their arms.

("Guardian Protocol Override Accepted) Regirock said.

("Recognize User Mew,") Registeel stated.

("Friendly Mode activated,") Regice voiced.

("Awaiting orders,") The three all declared.

Good. The following group behind me is to be given Full Access and Protection Priority Two for the next twenty-four hours. Understood?

("Affirmative. Scanning,") The three said as they turned to the group and began beeping a bit more.

("Faces saved into memory,") Regirock said.

("Access granted,") Registeel stated.

("Protection Protocols updated,") Regice replied.

The three soon stepped and stood on the left side of the entrance, not moving, saying anything, or even beeping. Everyone just waited for something to happen, but nothing did. Mew turned to them and smiled. See. I got it covered.

("Wow, I guess you can be responsible after all,") Sorren said with snort.

Hey! I'm very responsible! Mew declared with a huff.

Suddenly, the Time Flowers around them began to activate as they wondered what sort of new scene from the memory of Aura they would see next. What they didn't expect to see was the area covered in balloons, confetti, bottles of liquor, food, and party favors, along with a giant banner in crayon on the arch of the entrance that said "Happy 3224 New Year!"

In the middle of all this was past Mew, standing on a large beer keg. She had the giant hose in her mouth while chugging beer upside down on her head. Around her were the Legendary Zapdos, Raikou, Mesprit, Vichini, Celebi, Landorus, Zekrom, Reshiram, Tapu Koko, Shaymin, Hoopla, and Zarude all wearing party hats and beads and telling Mew to "Chug! Chug! Chug!" Meanwhile, the three Giants stood in silence off to the side with party hats on.

Finally, Past Mew finished and flipped in the air before screaming. (" Booya! In your face!")

The other Legendaries cheered as a drunk Mew flipped them off while swaying back and forth. Concerned, Celebi asked, ("Don't you think you had enough?")

("Hey! I don't tell you time travel, and you don't tell me how to party! Now bring out that Ferrum sake! Mama wants to drink Groudon under the table!")

("I think he and Articuno are making out or at least trying to,") Raikou giggled as he pointed somewhere the viewers couldn't see.

("Holy shit, I gotta see that...right after I wizz...on that vine-shaped toilet over there...") The drunk Past Mew said while floating away before the vision faded.

There was an awkward silence as everyone slowly turned to the blushing Legendary, who tried to say something, but all she could do was just open and close her mouth a few times before shrugging. Hey, it was good Galarian beer. Okay?

"...Let's just move on and forget this happened," Delia suggested as she raised her hand.

Nobody disagreed, and they moved on into the chamber.

Despite the awkward and disturbing scene they had seen earlier, the group gasped in awe as they saw the center of the Tree of Beginnings. The Heart was a giant green chamber with veins of Aura flowing in and out of it like a real heart. Large crystal arches decorated the room as they spread from wall to ceiling to floor. Here, the Aura was in its purest and natural state, and all those who could feel it almost felt like crying. The Aura was singing to them. Singing in a voice of pure, united harmony. In the center lay two large crystal rocks with smaller crystals coming out of them as a white beam flowed between them along with droplets of Aura that spread around like snowflakes.

"...In all my years, I have never seen anything like this," Nanny Jenny whispered.

The Heart of The Tree of Beginnings. Where Aura was born, Leonaitus whispered in awe. This is the greatest honor a Lucario can have. To witness the place where Aura comes from.

Yup, Mew said as she flew up near the center. It is here that all Aura worldwide is spread and returned to. Everything in life and even in death is connected with Aura. Without the Tree of Beginnings, life as we know it would cease to exist.

While everyone was staring at the tree in awe, Lucian noticed something nearby when he saw the walls of the distant side of the chamber. Upon closer inspection, he gasped and rushed forward in a sprint, which caught the others' attention, while Mew sighed when he saw what he had found.

Lucian skited to a halt and nearly fell to his knees upon seeing what was before him.

("Ma...Sir...A-Aaron...")

Sir Aaron looked as calm and peaceful in death as he did in life. His eyes were eternally shut as he lay inside the crystal coffin that housed him, and his smile was in eternal peace with his hands folded on his stomach. Pressing his paw against the crystal barrier that blocked him from his love, Lucian felt his eyes tearing up as he realized it was true.

Sir. Aaron was dead.

The others soon joined and gasped upon seeing the hero's final resting place before them. Queen Ilene quickly grasped her hands in prayer and began to pray silently with her eyes closed. The Royal Knights bowed their heads and placed their hands or paws over their hearts in salute. Even those who were not Royal Knights lowered their heads in respect.

Mew, slowly drifting towards Lucian, floated nearby and said, Behold, the final resting place of Sir Aaron. Hero of Rota. Savior of the Tree of Harmony. The Greatest of the Aura Knights.

Lucian slowly pressed his forehead against the crystal coffin and closed his eyes. He focused his Aura on trying to feel something in his master's lifeforce. Even just a small glimmer of it. But there was nothing. Nothing but an empty shell.

Suddenly, the crystal began to glow as if sensing his Aura, and everyone watched as another memory played before them. Their focus took them to see what appeared to be a memory image of a still-alive Sir Aaron slowly walking toward the tree's heart where the crystal was. Lucian stood up and gazed over at his Master before hurrying over to his side. He watched with his eyes, taking every moment of Sir Aaron's appearance. He looked weakened, tired, and recently in a fight.

Everyone watched in silence as they focused on Sir Aaron in what appeared to be his final moments. He gazed up at the Tree of Harmony and sighed. "So...this is...just as I feared...the only way to save it...is to purify it..."

He looked at his hand and summoned Aura to it. "And the only way to do that is to give it my Aura...all of it...

("Sir Aaron,") Lucian gasped in shock. His master did do it. He sacrificed his life to save everyone. Lucian couldn't help but look down in shame. He was a fool. A fool to doubt him all this time. ( "I was wrong...Forgive me, Master. You were a hero in the end...I was wrong...")

"...Forgive me, Lucian. My love," Sir Aaron said with a heavy sigh as Lucian snapped his head up. "Trapping you in my staff was the hardest thing I ever had to do...but I did it to protect you..."

A soft smile decorated his lips. "I knew you would come and want to sacrifice yourself in my place. I know you. You would claim it was your duty as my Pokemon, but I couldn't let it happen. I love you too much to let you do that. So I sealed you away until the day you will be freed."

("A-A-Aaron...") Lucian whispered.

"Even if I earn your unending hatred...even if you never forgive me...I will rest easy knowing you are alive...live my friend, my partner, my lover...live on and be happy...I will wait for you...Lucian..."

Lucian reached out to try and touch the image of his master, but it faded away. Gasping in shock and eyes watering, he swiftly turned to the resting place of his master and sobbed.

"(You...you...") Rushing over he slammed his paws on it. ("You had no right! It should have been me! It should have been me, Aaron! It was my duty! My job was to protect you with my life! I can't live without you! I need you! Please come back!")

Falling to his knees, Lucian screamed and wailed as he felt everything finally unleashed in his heart come out. The fear of being trapped, awakening in the future, losing all he loved and cared for, and seeing his beloved resting in eternal sleep. All to make him live instead of die in his place. Sir Aaron, who he loved so much, sacrificed everything so that Lucian could live, even if he hated him for what he did.

It only made Lucian love him more.

("...Aaron...") Lucian whispered as he lowered his head and continued to weep. ("...please...I need you...I love you...)"

At that moment, Lucian felt someone hugging him from behind. A gasp escaped his lips as he slowly turned to see a teary-eyed Ash wrap his arms around him. Ash said nothing but stared at Lucian with sympathy, sorrow, and pity. Biting his lip, Lucian hugged Ash back and wept on his shoulders.

"... It's going to be okay, Lucian," Ash whispered as he patted his back. "I know it hurts, but it will be okay."

("...How?") Lucian whispered in sorrow and bitterness. ("I have nothing.")

"You have your life," Ash said firmly as he stared at Lucian eye to eye. "Trust me when I say that living is precious. Take it from someone who nearly died. Even in the darkest moments, there is always something to live for. Something to find to live for. Sir Aaron sacrificed his life for everyone to live. He sacrificed his relationship with you so you could live. He did it because he loved you and all the people of Rota. That sacrifice cannot be in vain. You have to live for his sake. For what he believed you deserved. A chance to live your life and be free to do what you want with it."

("...but...") Lucian sniffed and wiped his eyes. ("...How do I find it?")

"...I don't know," Ash said as he slowly got up and held out his hand with a smile. "But we'll find it together."

Lucian slowly looked at the hand and reached out. He took it and accepted it with a soft smile as he stood up. All those who watched silently felt moved by the kindness scene before him. Queen Ilene smiled warmly and walked over to Lucian as she patted him. "Lucian, you will always have a home with us in Rota. It is the least we can do for you and Sir Aaron."

We will also help you, Lucian, Leonidas said as he saluted Lucario with the other Aura Knights. We would be honored to help you.

And us! Nobuyuki shouted, waving his hand.

"We might not be able to do much, but we'll help if we can!" Yukimura cheerfully stated.

Azrael slowly walked forward with Skye on his horn. The two stared at Lucario, who looked at them with regret. Lucian bowed his head in apology. ("I am...sorry for earlier...truly...")'

("...If Ash forgives you, then I will as well,") Azrael sighed before nodding his head. ("I also understand what it is like to lose someone important to you...")

("...I just want to do one thing,") Skye said before she flew up and pecked Lucian on the head a bit, which made him wince. ("Okay! All is forgiven!")

("Thanks, I guess?") Lucian said as he sighed and turned to Sir Aaron's resting place. ("Mew...Can I...visit him again?")

As many times as you want, Mew answered with a small smile.

There was a long silence as everyone again paid their respects to the Hero of Rota. But as they did so, Azrael felt something. In a blink of a second, his Danger Sense kicked in, and the familiar feeling he had been sensing all this time in Rota kicked in, only now it was blazing inside his head like a fire. Growling, Azrael cried out, ( "There!")

To everyone's surprise, he ran out of the chamber. Ash reached out and shouted, "Azrael! Where are you going?!"

Curious, they followed Azrael, who rushed down the road and then made a left turn into the forest. The others tried to follow him, but he continued to run faster and faster as his Danger Sense guided him. It was like he was processed. Whatever he was sensing was truly dangerous and sinister in nature—almost like a corruption that was so sick it made his body shiver at the prospect of its mere sensory nature.

He ignored Ash and the others crying to him until he finally made it as he entered a clearing and saw it. A red and black goo-like gap in the ground that was open and festering like an open wound. A red, sickly Aura was glowing from it and spreading like cancer among the trees around it in a bloody mess.

And Azrael could only feel one thing upon staring at Evil.

Pure evil.

Pokemon were more in tune with nature than humans. When something was wrong with nature's balance, they could feel it in their instincts. Right now, every Pokemon in the area was staring at what, to them, could only be called an abomination that shouldn't exist. Even the humans, trained in Aura and not, could tell that what they saw was beyond sinister and just plain wrong. Their blood was turned to ice, and their hearts told them to run away from this thing.

It was like looking at some gaping bloody wound filled with black pus, an infection upon the earth itself. The Aura it was giving out was twisted and filled with the scent of evil. Every Lucario and Aura Knight there felt sick, horrified, and was this close to just attacking the thing on principle. Even Ash, what little Aura he knew, was feeling weak in the knees by the sure wrongness of what he was looking at.

"What...is that?!" Ash gasped in horror as he clutched his chest. He almost felt like he was being shocked by Pikachu again. The smell of the wound and its feeling were beyond anything Ash could imagine. It was like looking at an Aura of evil.

("What unholy Aura is this?!") Ranmaru screamed in disgust as she pushed her kids behind her, both of whom looked ready to cry.

("No Aura should ever be like this. It's supposed to be pure. Even Aura used in the wrong hands doesn't...feel like this...") Leonidas whispered before turning to Mew, who stood there frozen in shock. ("Lady Mew! Do you know what this is?!")

Mew just floated there in place, her face frozen in terror and shock. The others saw this and were now really worried. What could make a Legendary as powerful as Mew look so pale in the face?

For what seemed like a long time, Mew didn't move until her eyes narrowed, and she spoke in the most serious tone Ash and his friends had ever heard. I'm sending you back. Now. The trip's over.

"But Mew, what is-"

Ash. Mew turned to him with narrow eyes. This is now officially Legendary Pokemon business. I can't explain it, not to any of you. You're going back to the castle. I'll meet up after I fix this.

Ash looked ready to argue, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him. He turned around and saw his mother with an equally serious and concerning look. She shook her head as if to tell him this was not the proper time to argue. Whatever this was, it was over all of their heads. Of all Pokemon, Mew would not act so serious if it wasn't. Reluctantly, Ash nodded. "Okay."

I'm going to send you all back. I promise I'll take care of this and return, Mew said as she began to glow with psychic power. Hold tight.

With a wave of her hand, Mew teleported the entire group out of the Tree of Beginnings. Once she was sure they were all gone, she quickly accessed the open psychic channel that all the Legendaries had, thanks to Arceus, and sent out a distress call to everyone.

This is Mew to all Legendaries! Priority Alpha Alert at the Tree of Beginnings! Xerneas! I'm coming to Kalos to get you, so get ready! Zygarde, you better have some of your cells and cores around where I am because I will also need you!

Priority Alpha?! You never send those! Zekrom, the Legendary of Ideals in Unova, pointed out in shock.

If this is a joke, Mew, Dialga muttered.

It's not a joke. I was showing Ash and others Sir Aaron's resting place in the Tree of Beginnings when Azrael's Danger Sense went off. And we found corruption in the Tree of Beginnings. Mew hissed in disgust as she got near it. The familiar and twisted energy was one she'll never forget. It caused the incident that nearly destroyed the Tree in the first place and caused Sir Aaron to sacrifice himself to purify it.

Who the fuck is Ash? Groudon, Legendary of Land in Hoenn, had asked in surprise.

Mew sighed but figured keeping it a secret at this point was pointless. Ash is my newest Chosen.

Many Legendaries cried out in shock or started asking questions.

You have a new Chosen?! Entai, Legendary Dog of Fire of Johto, asked in shock.

When did this happen?! Zekrom demanded.

Why didn't anyone tell us there was a new Chosen?! Articuno, Legendary Bird of Ice of Kanto, inquired.

Silence, Arceus's voice commanded, and all went quiet. Mew? Are you sure of this?

Positive, Arceus. And now that I'm looking at it and sensing it, I know who caused it, Mew growled in frustration and pur hatred. Girtatina is not on the call, is she?

No, why? Arceus inquired.

Because I'm positive now, upon feeling this Dark Aura, that It was... him .

Mew didn't even need to say who it was. All the Legendary knew who she was talking about. The one being that they all despised for the chaos and harm he caused not just to the world but to them as well. One of the few beings that even Arceus would personally destroy if he ever met them.

Are you sure? Arceus demanded with his tone, barely hiding a seething rage that made all the Legendaries sweat, including Mew.

Y-Yes, Mew answered while doing her best to keep calm. Few things made Mew act serious. And this was one of them.

Xerneas, Mew will come get you and bring you to Rota. Zygarde, whatever parts of you are nearby, I want to be assembled now. Arceus ordered. You both must fix this corruption and give me a full report afterward .

Yes, Lord Arceus! The two said.

I want all Legendaries to head to their respective sacred areas and search for any similar corruptions. If Mew is correct, this has been around for a thousand years, so I want to make sure that all our most important areas and safe havens for the world are safe—all of them, from Solaceon Ruins to Slumbering Weald. I will also be ordering an Emergency Legendary Meeting soon. Arceus ordered it. Anything else?

Yes, Ho-oh said with a heavy sigh. Who's going to tell Giratina?

...I will, Arceus said

Mew sighed while wishing him the best. Because the moment Giratina was going to hear any word about... him?

The souls in the Distortion World would suffer even worse than they usually do.

Once everyone had returned to the palace, Queen Ilene quickly ordered everyone not to speak about what they had just seen. Once the group agreed upon it, the queen decided to have dinner prepared. Lucian was not interested in eating anything and humbly asked for a room to be alone in to meditate. He was given one of the best guest rooms in the palace and used the first hour to cry into the pillows of the bedroom. Afterward, he went into a deep meditation to center himself.

In the past few hours, everything had been a whirlwind of emotions for him: waking in the future, seeing Sir Aaron's descendant, meeting Queen Ilene, Lady Mew's tale of Sir Aaron, the events at the Tree of Beginnings, and seeing Sir Aaron in his eternal rest.

A tear dropped down Lucian's cheek. Aaron was gone. His lover was gone. Lucian would forever hold this pain in his chest until he finally passed away to join his beloved in the afterlife. Lucario never took a second mate. It was because of the bonding experience they used when making love. It was giving each other a piece of your soul. One that never faded away, even in death. Lucian would never open his heart to anyone else ever again. Even if these conditions didn't limit him, he still wouldn't do it.

Aaron had been more than a partner; he was the entire reason for Lucian's existence. He never had a family or a friend until he joined the Aura Knights and became Aaron's partner. Aaron was always there for Lucian, day and night, and Lucain returned that devotion with his heart and loyalty. No words could describe what they had. It was something special only the two of them would ever hold.

He heard the door open and opened his eyes to see Ash entering the room with his Pokémon. He was carrying a plate of warm food and smiled at Lucian. "Thought I'd bring you dinner."

I am not hungry, Lucian told him via Aura.

"You've been trapped in a crystal for a thousand years. Are you sure you don't want something?" Ash asked as he sat down next to him.

Lucian's stomach answered for him with a growl. Sighing, he took the food and began to eat it slowly at first but soon ate it faster. The taste of meat, potatoes, and vegetables that had been denied to him for so long made him moan in delight. Arceus above, I missed eating.

("Man, that dinner was so good. I wish I had thirds,") Skye said as she rested on the window, still with a pout. ("Stupid Daddy telling me overeating would upset my stomach later.")

("It was nice, but I still think Delia's cooking is better,") Azrael replied to which both Ash and Skye nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, the cooks here are great, but nothing is gonna beat Mom's cooking," Ash replied, which caused Lucian to stop eating and slowly stare at Ash in disbelief.

("Did...Did you just understand your Pokémon? Without using Aura?") Lucian asked with wide eyes.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. I can understand Pokémon," Ash answered with a shy smile. "It's kind of a secret, so please don't tell anyone."

("How is this possible?") Lucian asked.

"Well, Mew isn't sure, but she thinks it has to do with her healing me..." Ash said.

("I see,") Lucian said. Is he also a Chosen like Sir Aaron?

("So why don't you tell me more about this Pokémon Journey you talked about and what trading you have had?") Lucian asked as Ash happily explained

Mew watched as the last of the corruption was finally wiped away by the combined power of Xerneas Geomancy and Zygarde's (In 10% form) natural effects on the ecosystem. The process took several hours, especially since the corruption was much further than Mew suspected. It was alive, much like Aura itself, and was digging deeper into the ground, trying to aim for one of the primary root veins of the tree. Zygarde informed Mew that if not found, it would have hit one of them in less than two years and slowly killed off the Tree of Beginnings. By then, the purification would need another sacrifice of Aura similar to Sir Aaron's to fix it.

("And you are sure that it's all gone?") Mew asked out of concern.

("Positive,") Xerneas said with a confirmed nod. ("It's gone for good.")

("We also detect no additional problems with the Tree or around it in any manner similar to the corruption,") Zygarde informed. ("We are currently using the data we gathered from our work to send to our other cells and cores to search for similar patterns of corruption. We will be informed if it is sensed again.")

That was a relief. Parts of Zygarde were worldwide, even in locations that humans hadn't discovered yet. With his connection to the ecosystem, he was like his own independent radar system for the Legendaries at times.

("Thanks. Both of you,") Mew said with a nod. ("I'm just glad we detected this problem before it became a worse issue.")

("Of course, but the fact that this happened in the first place means that someone was trying to sabotage the Tree of Beginnings from the start,") Xernas mentioned. ("And we don't even need to guess. It was him.")

("Indeed, it seems our old enemy still lingers and continues to cause trouble") Zygarde snarled in his dog form.

("He hasn't been seen in over four hundred years since the last time") Mew muttered as she narrowed her eyes. That didn't mean he might not also be responsible for other incidents. The man was always a schemer and was responsible for more than one incident in his quest to become a god. If he was responsible for the corruption in the Tree Of Harmony, he was also responsible for the war that led to many deaths, including causing Sir Aaron to sacrifice himself.

("Sir Aaron looked like he had battled someone on his way here,") Mew whispered as she recalled the memory. ("I think it was him.")

("You believe that he tried to stop Sir Aaron?") Xernas inquired.

("Makes sense considering who Sir Aaron was a descendent of,") Mew sighed. ("And if Ash is a descendant of Sir Aaron...")

("You think it's destiny?") Xernas asked with concern.

("If it is, then that's even more of a reason to train Ash as my Chosen,") Mew said firmly. Destiny was always a wild and unknown bitch. But if there was one thing Mew knew, it was something you couldn't avoid.

("And are you going to explain why you and Arceus kept this a secret from us?") Zygarde asked.

("It's complicated. We'll explain at the meeting,") Mew said. ("I need a moment to think.")

The others didn't say anything as Mew floated away. Emotions were steering inside of her right now. Anger, for one. Mainly at the person responsible for this but also for herself for not stopping it sooner. Sorrow was another one, and she couldn't help but think that if they had stopped this all sooner or if she had been better at her job, so many would be alive, including Sir Aaron. And finally, there was dread. She knew who was behind this, and he was obsessed with becoming a god and revenge on the bloodline of the one who stopped him the first time.

Mew was not going to let him hurt Ash.

Next time we meet, I will end you... Volo!

("...You are a strong boy, Ash,") Lucian said softly with respect upon hearing the end of Ash's story. ("To come back and train yourself after such a traumatic moment...")

"Well, I'm not alone in it," Ash said as he petted Azrael, who nuzzled back. "I had help from my friends and family."

("Having aid from those who care about you is not a weakness; it is a strength that makes us all stronger") Lucian answered as he closed his eyes. ("This dream of yours. Being a Pokemon Master. You are determined to follow through with it?")

"Yeah, I am," Ash said as he looked outside and saw the moon shining above. "It's what I've wanted to be since I was little. I love Pokemon and the idea of growing stronger with them. I want to have the best team and unleash our best potential. I want to be like my Dad and win tournaments, but I only want to be a champion. The one thing he never became before he died."

Closing his eyes, Ash looked at his hands. "I...I remember what my Dad said to Ingus when he was trying to save him in that flashback. He said...'I Choose You'..."

Lucian remembered it, but he didn't understand what the words meant. ("Have you discovered what those words mean?")

"Yeah," Ash said with a smile. "It means choosing something with your heart and determination. Ignus wasn't a strong Charmander, based on what Sorren and Mom told me. He was pretty weak, but Dad didn't care. He chose him as his first partner and promised they would be the best there ever was together. And he did. Dad's Charizard was amazing."

Taking a deep breath, Ash stood up as the Pokemon looked at him. "And I want to live by those words. I Choose to be a Pokemon Trainer. I Choose Azrael and Skye as my partners. I Choose to defend others and do the right thing as Sir Aaron did. I Choose...to be me. Not because I want to prove myself to others...but because I want to prove myself."

("...Ash...") Azrael whispered before he got up and went to his human's side. ("Then...I Choose You...as my friend forever.")

("Me too!") Skye chirped as she flew over and landed on Ash's shoulder. ("No matter what? We're a flock! And we're gonna show the whole world that nobody messes with us!")

The three smiled at each other, and Lucian stared in awe. Closing his eyes, he focused on the Aura between them. It was bonding so well, similar to that of an Aura Knight and his Lucario. Yet it was not out of training, meditation, or years of practice, just by simple acceptance and trust.

...I see... Lucian smiled as he opened his eyes. Yes, I know what I must do...

("...Then I Choose you, Ash Ketchem, as my student,") Lucian said, making the three stare at him. ("You may not want to be an Aura Knight, but you still must learn how to master your Aura. You are also the decedent of my master and my lover. I can think of no better duty or purpose right now than to teach you the ways of the Aura to help train you and your team to become stronger for your dreams.")

"...Are you asking to be my Pokemon?" Ash asked in awe.

"("No,") Ash blinked as Lucian sighed. ("I am, and always will be, Sir Aaron's Pokemon even if he has passed on. While I am willing to train and help you, even fight alongside you in dangerous situations. But I will not let anyone command me nor use me for these...Pokemon Battles. I wish to be only my love's Pokemon, even now.")

"I understand," Ash said with a nod. He then got an idea and smiled. "How about we be family then?"

("Family?") Lucian asked in confusion.

"Well, you were Sir Aaron's mate. And I am of his blood. That makes us family, at least in my eyes," Ash reasoned as he smiled at him. "So what do you say?"

Family.

He...never had a family before.

Just Sir Aaron.

With a tear in his eyes, Lucian nodded. ("Very well. Family it is.")

After two more days in Rota, it was time to return to Pallet Town. Mew had assured them all that the corruption at the Tree of Beginnings was gone and wouldn't return. Lucian had also announced his intention to go with Ash to prepare him for his Pokemon Journey. Although offered various titles and positions to stay, he felt it was best to serve his master and lover by staying by his descendant's side.

"You will always be welcomed here in Rota, Lucian," Queen Ilene said with those who had come to say farewell to the Pallet Towners outside the Palace gates. "You and those who you now call family."

Thank you, Queen Ilene. I know that if Queen Rin were here, she would be honored to know that the crown and kingdom are in the hands of a good and wise ruler such as yourself, Lucian said with a bow.

"Are you sure it's okay for me to keep this?" Ash asked as he held Sir Aaron's staff in his hand.

"You are his descendant and did win the tournament fair and square. It's only right that it passes to you, Ash Ketchem," Queen Ilene said with a smile. "It's also thanks to your Absol that we were able to find the corruption in the Tree of Beginnings as well. Consider it a reward. Though the offer of giving you a Riolu egg is still open for you."

"Thank you, but I don't feel comfortable taking a baby from their parents, even with their blessing," Ash said with an awkward smile.

"I understand. Nevertheless, we welcome you back to Rota anytime soon," Queen Ilene replied.

Despite our meeting being one of conflict, it was still an honor to meet you, Lucian, Leonidas, and the other Lucario and their human partners bowed. Knowing that we pale compared to your strength has resolved to see that we will double our efforts to grow stronger. We will be worthy of the Knights of old as they once were.

Should I return, I will test that strength, Lucian said with a nod.

Ranmaru stepped forward and hugged Delia. It was wonderful to see you again, Mistress Delia. I promise to visit Pallet Town one day. Not just to see you and Master Ash but also to pay my respects to Master Red's grave and the graves of my old friends.

"You and your family are welcome to our home any time, Ranmaru," Delia hugged back.

The Lucario then turned to Sorren and grinned before holding her paw out. As for you, old bird? Next time? We're going to see who's gotten stronger with age.

Ha! When do we? You're going to wish you never met me again, Sorren teased as he slapped his wing with Ranmaru. Then they slapped their opposites, then both, and finally headbutted. I never get tired of that.

Ranmaru turned to Ash and gave him a warm smile before putting a paw on his shoulder. Master Ash. I am so glad to have finally met you and trained you. I promise to see you more often in the future. You have the potential to be a great Pokemon Trainer like your father but also the potential to exceed him.

"Thanks, Ranmaru," Ash said while hugging the Lucario. "I promise to come to revisit Rota someday."

"Yeah, you better," Yukimura said with a grin. "We want a rematch!"

We'll be ten times stronger next time! Nobuyuki cried out as he pumped up his fists.

Looking at his cousins, Ash laughed and gave a thumbs up. "Well, be ten times stronger, but we'll give it our all regardless."

("Right!") Azrael and Skye said at the same time.

After final goodbyes were said, Mew levitated herself above everyone and concentrated. With a burst of psychic energy, she and those returning to Pallet Town soon vanished. Queen Ilene sighed as she put her hands together in prayer. Lord Arceus. Please watch over Ash and Lucian. I have a feeling that things will only get more difficult as time passes.

"Well, this is our home!" Ash said as he opened the door for Lucian. The Lucario walked around, taking in all that was around him. "It's not a palace but it's still great."

Hmm, I do not mind. Its simplicity speaks of a homely nature, Lucian said as he paused at the TV screen and touched it. What is this strange box with glass on it?

("Oh, that's the TV! By Lugia's wings, I missed it! I wanna see what movies are playing tonight!") Skye said as she flew in and pecked at it.

TV? Lucian asked curiously

Something that's fun but makes humans dumb, Mew answered with a giggle as she levitated inside.

"We'll have to give you a thorough explanation of modern appliances later," Delia said as Mimey helped her with the bags. "For now, let's unpack our stuff, and Ash can show you around Pallet Town. Professor Oak will also want to get to know you and give you a physical to make sure you are in good health."

Very well, Lucian nodded before blushing. Before we do, is there a place where I might relieve myself? I'm afraid I've been holding it in and require a privy.

"Oh, the toilet is upstairs," Ash responds.

...What is a toilet? Lucian inquired, which only made Mew laugh.

Soooo not toilet training him! Mew replied as Ash turned to his mother who shook her head and pointed to him.

"Fine," Ash sighed as he motioned for Lucian to follow him upstairs while muttering to himself.

Needless to say, it was an embarrassing thirty minutes for both of them.
