That next morning Alison had woken up alone. Disappointed but not surprised, this was how things used to go Emily's first year in the Army. Getting up super early Emily would go for a two mile run every morning. Groaning as she got out of bed she found Emily's shirt still in her room. Slipping into it after her shower, she sighed softly hoping this wouldn't be the last piece of clothing she would wear of hers. There was a knock on her door, cocking her head she quickly made her way to it and peaked through the peep hole. Smiling she saw the beautiful brunette standing there with iced coffee and what appeared to be some kind of pastries.
Opening the door Alison stepped aside "Good morning, I didn't know when you'd be coming back so I already showered." Emily smirked and shrugged her shoulders "It's okay, I'm sure we will find some time to shower together." This sent a jolt of warmth to Alison's core as she was handed breakfast. "You're really going to turn me on this early?" Alison cocked an eyebrow as her wet blonde hair dripped down her back. She could feel how hard her nipples were from the cool air of opening the door. Emily had to fight herself to stay off of her.
"You really don't make staying off of you very easy Ali..especially not when you wear my clothes." Taking a sip of her own coffee she sat down on the edge of the bed. Placing her coffee on the beside table Alison drew closer. "We still really need to talk, I know you don't want to and believe me I don't either…" her blue eyes slowly shut as she fought tears back. "Hey, you're okay. There's no need to cry." Emily may have been this bad bitch now but she wasn't heartless. Wiping away Alison's tears they both sighed.
"I'm sorry, I know there really isn't anything I can say or do to take back what happened all that time ago—what I want more than anything is just a chance to start fresh…for it to be like we never had that fight. I know I was selfish and incredibly childish. I just—didn't want you to ever get hurt or anything like that…" Alison rambled softly before hugging Emily as tight as she could. "I'm sorry too, we should have talked about it more and I should have waited to sign my contract. Good news is I'm up for re-enlistment when I go back…I think it's time for me to come home."
The last words she said lit up Alison's face. Part of her couldn't believe she was awake. This had to be a dream, and to test the theory she pinched herself. "Ow." The blonde whined not realizing how hard she had pinched herself. Emily smiled kissing the piece of freshly bruising skin. "You're not dreaming…Unless you don't want us to give it another shot. I totally respect that I just was hoping we could try and fix things…"
Before Emily could finish her thought Alison collided their lips together. Tongues dancing, almost fighting for dominance. It was so intoxicating but also so incredibly sobering. This was actually going the way she had hoped it would. "What about Aiden…" Emily asked furrowed brows of curiosity as she tilted her head to one side. "Would we have had that incredibly hot, deliciously mind blowing sex if I was actually with him…come on I invited him to be nice. He's a new teacher in town so as a good co worker I invited him to meet the people I went to school with."
Emily nodded slowly as she understood what was being said to her. There was joy she tried to contain but wasn't very successful at doing. The smile on her face practically stretched from ear to ear. Emily placed her hand on Alison's cheek. "I still have to go back but I think my decision is pretty clear cut." All she ever wanted was to be happy, to be with the woman she had loved for so many years. Humming softly into Emily's touch she couldn't help but kiss her palm. "I don't want you to think you have to get out, I'm willing to try this again no matter where you are. I want to be with you, it should have always been you."
Emily could feel the tears of joy slip from her eyes as she smiled up at Alison. It was like the weird nightmare of stagnancy and repetition was finally over. "No I know you would, I can feel how genuine you're being…it's just run its course for me. I have my degree in Nursing and I've been a field medic for long enough that at some point I'm okay with no longer putting myself in immediate danger." Alison couldn't help but smile, she was glad Emily could feel her intentions were pure. "Your mom is going to be thrilled we're doing this isn't she?" Emily gritted her teeth momentarily thinking about just how her mother would react. Not that it really mattered, they were both well old enough and had been through enough to make decisions on their own. "She'll come around, it's a trend I've noticed about almost every decision I have made." They share a chuckle. "My sweet Em…I love you."
Emily wasn't quite expecting her to say this again so quickly, not that it wasn't more than welcome. "Ali, you don't have to say it. Not yet…" As much as she wanted to shout from the top of the world just how happy this made her she knew it was probably said out of something other than feeling in this moment. Alison shook her head slowly "No, I do mean it. I love you, I have always loved you." Emily sighed softly before kissing the woman's lips softly "I love you too." She whispered as their lips were still connected.
"Give me just a second…I'll be right back." Alison had a plan, but to nobody surprise Emily didn't know what was going through her head. Sighing as she walked the woman walk the other direction until her phone rang. That's when the name "Jackson" flashed across the screen and being that was her best friend of course she answered.
"Jackson, what's up? It's gotta be important if you're calling me on leave…"
"Respectfully, Fields, what the actual fuck are you doing?"
Emily's expression changed from only slightly annoyed to angry like a switch had been flipped.
"Excuse me, what the actual fuck are you saying to me right now?"
"You're leaving the Army for a girl? What are we just going to forget all the bullshit she put you through?"
"You know what, go fuck yourself Jackson."
Throwing the phone at the wall it shattered. She knew she couldn't go without a phone for long but right now she was ready to do a lot more damage than just a shattered screen. Though Emily hadn't noticed the blondes locks showing from the entrance to the bathroom.
"Some girl huh? I certainly thought I had a higher status than that." Alison tried to joke as she approached Emily who was visibly showing signs of stress and anger. "Just—give me a second. I'm not mad at you but I can't promise I won't say things I don't mean because I'm triggered…"
Alison sighed softly and sat beside her on the bed. "How did people find out already, it's not like you're back on base or anything?" Emily sighed "He's my best friend…he and I were talking about it. I understand why he's making sure this is the choice I really intend to make—we had another friend who left for a woman and it was very ugly."
"You don't need to explain anything to me, I get it. I just hope people understand this has always been something so much deeper than just some high school sweetheart situation. Those never do work out do they? I mean look at Aria and Ezra.." Emily chuckled "That should never have happened but men have a thing for getting off on power trips. While yes they were only what 4 years apart? It's still very very illegal. Anyway, I really need to apologize to him. I'll see you later?" Emily leaned over giving Alison a small kiss before heading back to her own room next door.
