Another week had passed, at first the whole assault case seemed to be a laugh among the men. It drove Emily insane, almost mad even. "Un-fucking-believable." She muttered throwing her cover onto the couch before heading straight to the kitchen to pour herself a drink. If it hadn't been for a full bar Hunter would have gotten away with what he had done. However forcing the company to lose him seemed to be doing a hell of a lot of harm to Emily and her reputation.
Sipping the whiskey she sighed, hearing footsteps approach her. "Em—talk to me. Drinking isn't going to fix—" Emily's head turned towards Alison and she threw up a hand. "Don't. Just don't…Even if I told you everything it's just going to make me angry. I wish there were words, but there's not. Nobody can 'help' me Alison. You will NEVER understand."
Knowing this was not a sober Emily she backed up slowly. "When you decide to get it face the issue instead of running like you always do, let me know." Rolling her eyes Alison headed into the bedroom locking the door behind her. Not out of fear for her safety but fear she might say something she shouldn't even though she may have already crossed that line.
Emily didn't bother to move from where she was standing. Reaching back she grabbed the glass and threw it against the wall. Watching it shatter Emily laughed inside at the irony of it all. Running wasn't something Emily was known for, so to twist her own issues on her like this was low. Even for Alison, she expected more. Grabbing a broom she swept up the glass not wanting the cat to step on it.
In the other room Alison pulled herself under the covers letting no light seep into her vision. Tears fell down her face, she was right on one hand. There was no way for her to fully understand what Emily was going through but that didn't mean she couldn't be supportive. Emily grabbed her car keys and headed out the front door slamming it behind her. Sliding into her Jeep she made her way into the nearest towns dive bar.
Drinking alone wasn't something she wanted to be doing but sometimes it felt like her only escape. Luckily Alison had her location so it wasn't like she didn't have a clue where she was. All the girls did once Emily was actually allowed to due to restrictions of her job. "Hey Jay, can I get whiskey on the rocks."
The bar tender noticed Emily's mood and poured her a double. "What's going on kid, you know I'm here for you." Emily sipped her drink and chuckled softly out of embarrassment. "I'm that obvious huh? Just shit with work—you know how politics and the belief of women is basically nonexistent…let's just say it's all catching up to me. They want to dishonorably discharge me but they can't they don't have enough to back up the why."
An hour or so passed, Emily knew she wasn't in a condition to drive but what choice did she have. Uber didn't travel to the middle of nowhere, and Alison could pick her up in the pick up truck but she didn't want to talk to her just yet. Stumbling out of the bar towards her jeep was the last thing she remembered before she lost all her sense. The world was black, time didn't seem to be moving forward or backwards. She couldn't hear anything, she couldn't seem to open her eyes. "I'm fucking dead, this is death isn't it?"
When Emily didn't come home within a few hours she called the bar that had been her last location. "Hi I was just trying to see if—" Alison felt her heart drop as she learned Emily had been taken to a local hospital. Quickly she called Diaz, her other hero from that night at the bar. Explaining they needed to get to Emily and figure out what was going on. The pair made it in record time. Rushing into the emergency entrance Alison frantically asked where Emily was.
"She's in a room resting, but I can't allow you both to see her unless you're family…She has temporary amnesia but she's coherent"The nurse behind the desk was just doing her job and Alison understood that but still the tears streamed down her face.
"Hold on a second—are you Alison?" The nurse asked watching her nod immediately
"Yes, I'm Alison Di—-"
Cocking an eyebrow the nurse quickly corrected her "Alison Fields, her wife?" Alison wasn't going to argue "Yes that's me." Wiping the tears away from her face she couldn't help but smile. If Emily really had amnesia she still remembered her. Of all people even.
Alison was brought back to the room where she smiled softly. "Em—what happened.." Multiple bruises filled the tanned woman's skin, scrapes and cuts too. A small stitch ran just over an eyebrow. Taking a seat next to the bed Emily lie in she took her hand into her own. Gently trying to avoid any of the IVs in her. "God I'm just glad you're okay—you scared me."
Emily couldn't smile as big as she wanted to without pain but she tried. "I don't know what happened…Jay says a couple people jumped me but I don't remember any of it—I'm just grateful you're here. Jay says the only thing that brought me back to reality was when he said your name…and I repeated it."
The warmth in her heart continued to flood the rest of her body. "You told them I was your wife though? Why…" Emily was a little confused by the question. "Are we not married? I could have sworn…does that mean you're also not pregnant?"
Alison had no idea where any of this had come from but a doctor walked in as Emily spoke. "Mrs Fields can I speak with you for a moment." Pulling Alison aside he mentioned to her what had happened and all of the things that could have and did come along with the trauma response her body had in addition to the amnesia.
Nodding as she understood, she found her way back to Emily. "Of course we're married Em. I don't know how you think it could possibly be anyone else…" Gently she placed a hand on Emily's cheek kissing her forehead softly. "Why don't you get some sleep, I'll be right here. I'm not going anywhere—never again."
