Hello all, not sure if i should continue this story or move onto the next. Lmk ! I think this rounds out a nice ending but I could easily keep it going
Getting into a room was taking too long for Emily's liking. It wasn't like they could just kick someone out sooner than they were supposed to be. Alison was the calm on in this moment regardless of how much chaos was happening around them. Something told her to keep calm, that everything would work out the way it was supposed to. Emily's mom showed up within minutes of their own arrival. Though Alison was completely convinced she was any calmer than Emily. It didn't matter though, it was worth the smile she could feel stretching across her face.
"Mrs Alison Fields we have your room ready. Hi there you must be Emily's mother, I'm doctor Camden and I'll be taking good care of your newly growing family." Pam sighed softly at the tall redhead that lead them into the room. "Mom, could you go get me some coffee or an energy drink?" Alison rolled her eyes totally ignoring the pain she currently felt. Emily knew how she felt about energy drinks but at least it had replaced another bad habit. Not that either were beneficial for Emily's health but it sure as hell wasn't going to get Emily sucker punched again, or worse.
Hours passed as Emily clutched her wife's hands in her own. The doctor had recently come in to assess the progress Alison's body was making. "Well I have some good news and some bad news." The doctor said as the new parents shot her looks of concern. "Good news is, we're going to have some babies soon. Bad news is, based on the positioning of the first twin we're going to have to do a c-section. I promise it sounds scarier than it is. I know it wasn't what we had anticipated but we did say it was a possibility. I have an opening with a surgeon tomorrow morning. For now try to rest as much as possible. You're going to need it."
They each nodded before thanking the doctor. "Ali-how are you feeling? Tell me whats happening behind those beautiful blue eyes." Alison took a deep breath before smiling over at Emily. "As long as they're healthy that's all that matters. I know it wasn't in our plan but when has anything we have ever done gone to plan?" With a chuckle Emily nodded. For the first time in almost a year she raised her right arm, taking Alison's hand into her own.
To anyone watching this may have seemed like a pretty mundane task. A very normal movement but for Emily it was the first time she had full control of the muscles in her lower arm, wrist and hand. Alison immediately sobbed realizing what was happening. "Baby, you can feel your arm?" Alison was already full of joy and hormones so the waterworks came even easier than usual. Emily nodded "Yeah-I was going to tell you and Mom while we had dinner but this is so much more special."
The two had quite a bit of time on their hands before the twins would be there. They had gone back and forth with names but didn't know the gender of either baby. So it really was a coin toss. Though they both had their guesses based off of the old wives tales they had been told. Like the way Alison's stomach dropped at a certain point or the way she had cravings for salty instead of sweet.
"I know this is going to sound crazy, but what if one of their first or middle name is Wayne. I know it's typically more masculine but I think it would be a beautiful middle name for a girl." Emily hadn't heard Alison mention this at any time during the pregnancy. As if her heart could be any more swollen with pride and love, she was sure it was on the verge of exploding out of her chest.
"Wait you're serious? Alison we don't have to do that. My dad adored you but he would-" Alison brought a finger to her wife's lips to shush her for just a second. "No I want to, I know we don't have to. I think it's a really nice way to keep his name alive. I'm sure your Mom will love it as much as I do."
Emily sent a quick text off to her mom to call her when she woke up. They had sent her home once they had the news they'd be going in for a surgery tomorrow morning. Of course her phone rang immediately. Emily chuckled as she cried softly pressing the answer button putting it on speaker
"Hey Mom. Why are you awake it's like four in the morning. You're on speaker by the way."
"Honey is everything okay? Is Alison okay? What about the babies are they here already?"
"No not yet, in a few more hours they will be. I just wanted to share something, well we wanted to share something. Alison wants to ask if you'd give us permission to name one of the babies after dad…" Pam was silent for a moment before the girls could tell she was crying but trying to be strong all at the same time.
"That would be wonderful honey. Only if you're both sure that's what you want. I know your dad will be there every step of the way even if you decided not to. I'm going to get up and ready for the day I'll be at the hospital around 8 if that's okay?"
"That's perfect Mom. I love you, I can't wait to see you." Hanging up the phone Emily hadn't even realized what the date was today. It was her dad's birthday. So much had been going on she hadn't even thought about this being a possible date for the twins to be born.
"Ali today is my dad's birthday. I didn't even realize it.". Pushing loose strands of the straight black hair that surrounded Emily's face Alison nodded. "He's just letting you know he's here, he will always be here for you. I know it's been hard without him for you, but just know how proud he is of you for coming along so far so gracefully."
When the chaos finally settled and the twins were born via C-section, Emily hadn't anticipated what this would do to her wife's body. Right now though the couple was so full of love and pure happiness as their crying newborns rested on Alison's chest. "Ali they're perfect, you're perfect.." tears of joy streamed down both of their faces as they shared a kiss. The moment they had been waiting for finally came. Somehow it took so long yet on the other hand happened in the blink of an eye.
They couldn't believe they were actually in their hospital room with two very brand new babies. Two girls, Olivia Wayne and Lauren Cathrine Fields. It all seemed like a dream, but a dream they didn't want to wake up from. Pink flowers and giant balloons quickly filled the room as news of the girls birth made its way to their friends. Each stopping by when they could to say hello.
Hanna of course brought a bottle of wine. "Listen after my first this was all I could think about." Emily laughed and shook her head giving her friend a tight hug. Alison smiled, it was pretty obvious to anyone who paid attention this time of year depression hit Emily hard. This was the first time she saw a smile that big and that genuine in a long time that wasn't directed at herself or the girls.
Hanna gave Alison a quick kiss on the forehead and backed up slowly. "I'd bring the kids but you know toddlers are germ monsters. So cousins will wait until we're a little older huh sweet girls. Thank you for letting me come by and hold them. Caleb might be busy now that I've caught the baby fever again."
They all laughed as Hana left. "This is crazy." Emily muttered out finding herself picking up Lauren and handing her off to Alison so she could hold Olivia. "I can't believe they're here…we have little tiny humans we're responsible for.." Olivia opened her eyes and gripped a small gold chain Emily wore around her neck. Alison had given it to her for her sixteenth birthday. It was something she never took it off.
"Yeah baby Mommy gave that me a long time ago. We had no idea this is where we would be all these years later. We wouldn't have it any other way my love. You and your sister are so much more than we could have ever dreamt of." The girls came out with a soft tan, the donor they had chosen had almost strikingly similar features to Emily's. Wanting them to have a chance to look like both of their parents.
