...
This whole story begins about three hundred years ago in the island nation of Japan. In Japan, it was year five of the Shotoku era. The nation was at peace, but in the dark recesses, there was a ceaseless and bloody conflict between the merchants.
What they desired was status, the status of "Shogunate Purveyor." Shogunate Purveyor, the highest rank among all merchant purveyors. They possessed the greatest privileges, including a monopoly on purveying goods to the shogunate in every industry, even minting.
In other words, it was a position that all merchants were foaming at the mouth to obtain, and they would obtain it by any means necessary. . .
Intimidation, conspiracy, even assassination, they used every means they had to get rid of the competition. This conflict gave rise to new grudges, and a spiral of hatred arose from it. Eventually, not even the merchants themselves could control the ever-expanding cycle of violence, and the world was becoming a constant battlefield.
And so, the times were calling for a chain to control the spear of unending violence. It was not the merchants that brought that chain, however.
The Seventh Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate, this was the one who brought an end to unmitigated violence that was beginning to consume the era. His name was Tokugawa Ietsugu, and he was a boy of only five. Ietsugu summoned the merchants that were at the heart of this quarrel and gave them an order.
"If you wish to settle this conflict, then battle it out fair and square!"
It was truly a childlike, simple and candid proposal, but not a single one of them had ever reached this simple conclusion on their own. Overwhelmed by the merciful gaze of the young shogun, they felt ashamed by their shortcomings.
Violence brought order. The merchants formed a guild. If there was a conflict of interest, they would establish a venue of competition through the guild. The results of that competition were indisputable, and any other conflict was strictly forbidden.
The method of that competition was incredibly simple: a one-on-one fistfight! Overwhelming primordial violence, confident fighters hired by each side would settle their differences in the merchants' place.
"Violence" was sublimated into "martial arts."
These battles were held under the guild members' supervision until one side fell. Even after the Tokugawa Shogunate fell, the merchants continued this method of competition unbroken. In order to settle their conflicts, they would entrust their desires to the fists of fighters.
This guild would evolve into the "Kengan Association", and these conflicts would be dubbed "Kengan Matches."
Returning to the modern day, the head of the Nogi Business Group has began to plot behind the scenes. With just a few more victories, he will be able to garner enough support to enact the Kengan Annihilation Tournament. The greatest members of the association and their fighters will battle for the right to lead the Kengan Association, but if he loses then everything else will be lost with him.
After the events of the Maximum Tournament Baki became old man Tokugawa fighter in the Kengan Matches, and Thanks to his amazing performance in this tournament and Many other underground fights ( plus the fame that came with admitting his Hanma heritage) Jack ends up being hired by instead of Bando, giving him a chance to face even stronger fighters and fight his brother again.
In my life, I had a true passion for martial arts. To the point that despite of my bellow average physique and low willpower, I actually managed to find a traditionalist school of Krav Manga and persist on training for almost a decade.
One would assume I would love to be sent to a world such as this. And I maybe I would have ... If I had not reincarnated into one of the most dangerous and violent slums Japanese fiction ever conceived. " The Inside".
I come in as a forgotten son of Yujiro with a random young woman named Yashimura Cho. Mom... Cho is strong-willed enough to survive being Yujiro for a few months, only instead of rewarding her with peace destiny has her being trafficked into "The Inside" a few months after the strongest man in Japan discards her as a common whore. she managed to escape her captors after the warehouse where she was being kept was attacked by a rival gang. She has me on an abandoned shack in a rainy day. And through grit and smarts, we actually manage to go by... Until my ninth 9 birthday, when the gang that ruled our neighborhood got doubled the "Protection Fee" and since mother did not have the funds... they tried to what these kinds of people do. She resited of course, she took 2 of them before the thugs stabbed her back deep enough to cross her heart .
Life after that was bit of blur. Stealing food, killing drug dealers and small time thieves to get enough money to eat... That was until Niko came around. Unlike Ohma he did not find me getting beat up by thugs but taking the belongings of a corpse. With no memory of canon and the mind of a war-paranoid 12-year-old who distrusted and hated every single older male... of course I attacked him. instead of just breaking my bones he got impressed, took me in and trained me in the Niko Style
3 years later Niko adopted Ohma. We were a messed up but functional family for a few good years. Until Setsuna came around.
The day Nico died was a new level of low for me.
Those were two familes in less than 10 years. I alredy had lost my first family the day I became a jumper, and that now... well let's say something in my heart closed. My mind decided that caring for others was just not viable anymore.
Since I was alredy cursed to live for centuries being flung from world to world, and adding in the fact I may be sent to places even worse than the inside ... It was better for me AND for everyone else If I did not make bonds.
That was one of the reasons I did not look for Ohma after Niko died. If the kid wanted to be alone, let him be alone. If he wanted to fight everyone to prove he is strong... "Them let the little fucker die trying".
Cut to the kengan Annihilation Tournament.
I had made a name for myself in underground fighting over the years. The stupid Disneyworld knock-off hired by me instead of Nesu, putting me to fight Rei in the first round.
Rei was fast, faster than Niko. It was ... a rare joy to find such a challenge. Sadly the harder Rei tried he could not make lasting damage on the guy whose bones were harder than steel and who's muscles could take shotgun wounds. Even the few concussions he managed to cause were not enough, and eventually, he was caught on redirection Kata throw. Face to the ground, stunned. Once on the ground, I stomped Rei's leg hard enough to remove his mobility
By plot coincidence, he met Baki while training at the cliffside. Out of nowhere Yujiro Appeared, kicked My ass and told us both we were brothers with a huge demonic smile in face. That Man's psyche needed to be studied
In the second round, I faced Baki. Much like in Ohma vs Baki, Baki dominated most of the fight. I was way tougher than Ohma durability-wise though. And unlike Ohma, once I realized I could not win with striking or throwing ( Baki was way faster tham me and way less affected by damage than any fighter I ever encountered. He just took hits and kept going without slowing down ) I started trying to grapple. Almost got to break Baki's arm via armbar, but Baki escaped. He scaped all my Grapples, dodged or tanked all his strikes, and every time I tried to break Baki's bones in joint locks he ended up being thrown instead ( Baki had trained with Goki Shibukawa to counteract throws, joint locks and power flow control after all)
Baki eliminated Amaro from the tournament with a killer mix of his Cocroach Dash and an Elbow to the sternum while using Adamantine Kata ( which he copied from watching Amaro ). He turned his strongest tackle technique into a move much resembling Niko Style Iron Moment ... Just much much faster and more destructive.
After My defeat Baki comes to visit on the infirmary and ... I feel lighter. We talk about the Niko Style, we talk about his journey to become as strong as he is ( which almost summarizes his life) and I tell him about The Inside and how, in a weird way, Sometimes there were more peaceful and made more sense than the outside world.
Later I came to try talk to Ohma, but the idiot was still not willing to listen. It was only after Ohmas enlightenment In his big fight with Raian that we actually chat. It was brief but... it was good. For the first time in while it felt like I could not only just be ok or "content enough".
...and them Ohmas heart exploded.
The patrons at least gave the dignity of a mourning period as it took 2 years after the Kengan annihilation tournament for they to yank me from that world.
