Author's Note – A Story Reawakened

This wasn't the story I originally set out to tell.

Code Lyoko: Reawakening is a reimagining of a much older project I began over 12–15 years ago, back when I was still in high school. That first story was called Code Lyoko: Second Beginning—a passion project I poured my teenage heart into, but never had the chance to finish.

Now, at 30 years old (as of April 2nd this year), with new perspective, life experience, and a deeper understanding of the characters I've grown up with and the ones I've created… I've found the inspiration I needed to return—not to rewrite the past, but to finally give it the ending it deserved.

This version is truer, bolder, and more meaningful than I ever imagined back then.

And I couldn't be happier with the result.

I hope you enjoy this journey.

From the bottom of my heart—thank you for reading.

Shadow Unknown

Chapter 1 – New Sparks

The first day of a new school year always brought with it a sense of potential—unwritten stories waiting to unfold. At Kadic Academy, that feeling was especially potent this time around. The campus stood timeless as ever—old stone buildings framed in ivy, bell tower rising into the crisp blue sky, and the faint echo of bike wheels skimming over cobblestone paths. Birds trilled from the trees surrounding the courtyard, their song dancing on the breeze. A normal school on the surface.

But underneath that cobblestone… something ancient stirred.

For now, though, the world was still at peace.

A single suitcase rolled gently across the stone walkway. Its owner, Kekoa Keanu Hyuy, strolled with relaxed confidence, sun-kissed skin glowing beneath a floral-patterned shirt. He paused just outside the main dormitory gate, setting the suitcase down and tipping his head back with a deep breath.

"Smells like... possibilities," he murmured with a smile. And for him, it wasn't just optimism—it was truth. There was a calm energy that flowed off of him, like waves over sand. People who walked past didn't know why they smiled—but they did. His happiness wasn't flashy. It was radiant.

He read the dorm list posted on a bulletin board, tracing a finger down until he found it.
"Hyuy, Kekoa. Room 2B. Not bad, not bad."

Across the courtyard, a sleek black car came to a stop. Zaynah Elise Verdia stepped out in silence, long midnight hair cascading over one shoulder like a waterfall of ink. She wore monochrome—a fitted gray jacket over a black pleated skirt, her eyes hidden behind clear violet lenses. The car didn't wait for her to close the door. It drove off before she could say anything.

Not that she had planned to.

Zaynah clutched her dorm assignment in one hand, the other wrapped protectively around a silver pendant hanging from her neck. She glanced around the campus with a detached gaze, as though she were trying to measure its worth with a single look. Everything here was unfamiliar—too bright, too loud, too... sincere.

"Room 3C," she whispered. "Far from the noise, I hope."

She started toward the main building, every step elegant, measured, distant.

From the campus bus stop came a blur of chaos in the form of Ubel Blat. A slipper on one foot, a skate shoe on the other. His hoodie was too big, his cargo pants too full—USBs and broken wires dangling from half-zipped pockets. He staggered forward like a crashed program, mumbling, "First bug of the year… cafeteria food code error…"

A soft thunk followed as he tripped over the sidewalk, caught himself mid-fall, and stood upright like it was part of the plan.

"Style points," he declared to absolutely no one.

Across the quad, Kite Rylen stood beneath the shade of an old oak, arms folded, posture calm but alert. His light-blonde hair ruffled in the wind, and a small leather arrowhead charm dangled from his neck.

He turned to his right. "You seein' this, Haseo?"

Beside him, Haseo Tsuda leaned against the tree, hood drawn low and a practiced stillness to his frame. His amber eyes tracked Ubel's every move.

"New blood?" Haseo asked, dryly.

"New code," Kite replied. "Let's hope it doesn't crash the system."

The two exchanged a glance. Both veterans of Lyoko's hidden war. Both survivors.

Down in the forgotten tunnels beneath Kadic, a single flicker of artificial light blinked on.

A dormant screen bathed the room in a dim glow. The supercomputer—shut down years ago—hummed with a whisper. On the lowest monitor, a symbol appeared: a pulsating, four-pronged eye.

The Scyphozoa writhed in digital silence, called forth from its slumber.

X.A.N.A. was awake again.

And this time… it was learning.
