Chapter 5 – Virtual Echoes
The elevator groaned open at the factory's bottom floor.
Kite, Haseo, Yumi, and Odd stepped out onto the cold metal floor of the supercomputer hub. All of them were silent, but their movements were synchronized—purposeful. Familiar. They'd done this before.
But this time… they wouldn't be going alone.
Kekoa stood just behind them, his face calm but alert.
Zaynah followed, her hands in her jacket pockets, gaze flickering across the monitors like she was already learning the system.
Ubel was last, fidgeting. He carried a small flash drive dangling from a keychain labeled "DO NOT "—but knowing him, it was exactly what he intended to do if things went sideways.
Yumi turned to the three of them. "This isn't a simulation. This isn't a training drill."
"It never is," Haseo muttered.
"First trip's rough," Kite added. "But we'll guide you."
"Ready?" Yumi asked.
Kekoa smiled. "Let's take a walk in the stars."
Zaynah nodded silently.
Ubel looked like he was about to vomit but raised a shaky thumbs-up.
Seconds Later – LYOKO: Forest Sector
Digital streams swirled like vortexes of light as Kekoa, Zaynah, and Ubel materialized in the Forest Sector for the first time. It was surreal—like walking inside a dream of circuits and trees, glowing leaves rustling above surreal canyons of green light.
Kekoa stood with awe, arms wide, letting the shimmering air pass through him. "Whoa…"
Zaynah landed lightly, knees bent, surveying their surroundings. Her avatar shimmered with elegant asymmetry—sharp, focused, tactical. "Feels like breathing in logic."
Ubel landed… and immediately collapsed onto the soft data-floor.
"I hate everything," he groaned.
"Welcome to Lyoko," Odd said through comms. "Don't touch anything glowing unless it's on purpose."
"We've detected a monster group near Tower 4," Yumi's voice followed. "Moving to intercept. Haseo's guiding you in."
A flicker of red pinged on their map. Moving fast.
Kite's voice broke in, sharp: "Scanners just picked up a Nullshade. Kekoa—you're on point. Stay fluid."
"A what?" Ubel asked.
"Don't worry," Kekoa said, spinning both Mana Blades in his hands. "I got it."
They ran together, three first-years chasing a red ping deeper into Lyoko's dreamscape.
Tower 4 Perimeter – Forest Sector
It hit fast.
The Nullshade emerged from a fractured tree, its void-body unraveling in glitchy static before re-forming with tendrils of black code. Its eyes blinked like inverted fireflies. The ground beneath it flickered with gravity surges.
"Scatter!" Zaynah shouted, flipping backward as the ground warped beneath them.
Kekoa dashed forward, blades drawn. His footsteps shimmered like ripples on water.
The Nullshade attacked with a burst of gravitational force, dragging them inward. Ubel screamed as he was nearly sucked into a pit of disintegrating terrain—only to be yanked back at the last second by a glowing thread of Zaynah's data silk.
Kekoa's aura flared bright. He leapt into the air, spinning both blades forward. They struck the monster dead center before boomeranging back into his hands.
The Nullshade recoiled—but not for long.
Zaynah tossed one of her fans, which disrupted the monster's phasing momentarily.
"NOW, Kekoa!" she shouted.
With a grin, he slammed his Tide Staff to the ground.
Tsunami Surge.
A wave of pixelated ocean erupted, crashing into the Nullshade and sending it spiraling backward—right into the Tower's barrier field.
It dissipated in a burst of fractured code.
Silence.
Then Ubel, flat on the ground, whispered, "I am... never doing that again."
"Liar," Zaynah replied.
Kekoa helped him up, radiant as ever.
They had survived their first real battle.
Lyoko was awake again.
