Prompts: Unconventional weapons/ Magic with a cost/ "it's us or them"
Summary: Hyrule and Wild's exploring is cut short when a portal interferes and drops them off in the middle of a monster attack unarmed. Can they save everyone and make it out alive?
A/N: :)Okay so maybe Wild and him should have listened to Twilights warning to not stray far from camp but in their defense neither of them had ever seen the animal they caught scurrying by, so they just had to give chase.
Now Hyrule was learning to regret that decision as a portal swooped them up, successfully separating them from the others in a new era.
He wasn't sure whose world they ended up in but her sure hoped the other heroes would find them soon. Wild and him seemed to have the unfortunate luck to land in the middle of a monster attack on a village.
What made matters worse was that they had both managed to leave their belongings at camp in the old era. Hyrule had been hoping Wild still had his slate since he almost never let that thing leave his side, but it appeared that luck was really not in their favor this time around as it was one of the few times that he'd left his slate in someone else's care.
Which meant that they of course were left completely defenseless against their foe.
Determined to help the still fleeing villagers, the two grabbed what they could- two menacing looking sticks from the side of the path.
They charged into battle without wasting a second hoping to save as many lives as they could.
The black blood of the monsters fit in perfectly well with how the day was going,
Hyrule rather quickly found himself struggling and needing to depend on his stored-up magic, both to take out enemies and heal struggling villagers.
Wild who was far more use to using the odd object as a weapon, was brandishing his stick like it was a proper sword.
Unfortunately, it was rather a large, scaled attack and the two quickly found themselves outnumbered by the enemy ranks.
What was left of the village was burning down in an unnatural speed and what made things worse was that they could still hear the screams of those who had yet the chance to escape.
After Wild took a rather nasty blow to the head, Hyrule was forced to use up most of what was left of his magic to heal the champion.
The two fought for what felt like decades before both of their weapons were in shambles and the pair was left defenseless against the small army.
The two shot each other a look of understanding- as much as neither of them liked it they both knew that they had no chance of rescuing the villagers from the fire and making it out alive, much less making it through the monsters alive.
Hyrule pulled the rest of his magical reserves from deep down inside him and shot off one large blast of thunder to stun the closest monsters.
The sudden lack of magic left him feeling dizzy as he struggled to steady his legs.
Taking the opportunity at hand Wild and Hyrule sprinted away, each sporting several different injuries.
The screams they heard from the dying villagers as they ran would forever haunt them. Guilt almost convinced them to go back and run into what would surely be their death, but common sense took over and they continued on.
The pair ran until they physically couldn't carry on. They collapsed onto each other with little complaint in a heap on the floor.
Neither of them felt like moving and the area in which they fell at least seemed decently covered, where they would at least be made aware of any monster before it killed them.'
Without their sleep sacks it was easy to tell just how hard and rocky their particular patch of dirt was. It had to have been some time after midnight at that point but besides the total exhaustion they both seemed to be struggling to pass out- adrenaline still high.
They both slightly shifted around in order to get in a position that would let them keep an eye on the other.
Hyrule found himself shooting Wild a small smile, and the smile Wild shot back said it all.
The night was a bad one but at least they had made it out alive together,
Without the strength to speak they laid in silence, staring at each other appreciatively.
At some point in the night, he must have finally been able to doze off because when he popped his eyes open at the sound of footsteps it was surprisingly light outside.
It took a second for the fog in his brain to clear and for him to remember that Wild and he were in very vulnerable positions and unable to defend themselves. One glance over at Wild let him know the other was still out of it.
Bracing, Hyrule forced himself to keep his eyes peeled toward where the footsteps were coming from, not sure if they belonged you a friend or foe.
He might not have had the strength to stop the potential threat from killing them, but he wouldn't go down without a fight.
Luck seemed to finally turn in their favor as the familiar figures of their fellow heroes stumbled into the clearing.
Hyrule groaned, unsure if he'd to be able to find the strength to do anything else.
The seven hero's attention snapped his way and within seconds the pair was swarmed.
"Rule, hey stay awake." Legend demanded tone pitched in panic.
And oh- when had he closed his eyes?
Hyrule let out another groan as he forced his eyes open.
"What happened?" Twilight asked from where he was crouched beside Wild.
"Hmmm... portal dumped us in the middle of a village being attacked... no weapons so we tried our best... couldn't-"Hyrule choked out.
Before he could continue his tale, Legend was shushing him.
"It's all right. You did your best, it's all over now."
"But-"
"No, you guys did everything you could. We'll take care of you guys now."
"Rest,"
Hyrule listened letting the group fuss around him as he fell asleep knowing that Wild and him were safe.
A/N: Hope you liked this! :)
