Beanie Head and Blue Hair
Marie x Edd fanfiction story. Once a bully and a victim, now two people who practically don't know each other.
I do not own Ed, Edd, n' Eddy, it is owned by Danny Antonucci.
The story takes place in 2013, around October (4 years after Big Picture Show).
It's been a few years since the Eds were last tormented by the Kankers. After the events at Mondo A-Go Go, the Kankers continued to pursue the Eds. However, as time passed and they all matured, their encounters became less frequent and eventually stopped altogether. Occasional waves even faded as the last time they acknowledged each other was a little over a year ago.
The relationships between Ed, Edd, and Eddy never faltered. They still stuck together like three peas in a pod. Of course, each individual went on to make more friends, but their main friend group was always the 3 of them together. For the Kankers, their half-siblings' bond still stands strong, often bickering as a part of the perpetual sibling banter. Their social circle expanded, much like everyone else, but it was always mostly just the 3 of them together.
BEEP BEEP BEEP! The alarm sounds thrice.
Edd taps the switch to turn off the alarm bell after rolling to the side of his mint-colored bed. He then sat up in his bed and stretched his arms. The time reads 6:30 AM. He got up from the bed, slipping into his house shoes, and folded his blankets. He then grabbed his cell phone as he walked downstairs to the kitchen to make himself some cereal, Chunky Puffs. The house was empty and silent again as his parents were already out for work. They had entrusted Edd with travelling to school on his own.
Edd, in twelfth grade, still wears his old beanie, and no one other than Ed and Eddy knows what's under it. They only saw it once, though. He has gotten taller and has grown more muscles, still considered below average in physical abilities for someone his age, but he's no longer described as scrawny or weak. His brain, is still something remarkable, the smartest student of possibly the entire Peach Creek High School.
Over the years, he has learnt to stand up for himself more often, speaking up against authority, less afraid to speak his mind. Essentially "growing a spine". He has learned to be calmer when things he thoroughly calculated go out of his projected path, as he understands that no matter what happens, he'll be fine. He has become more open-minded, more understanding of different views and opinions.
Checking his cell phone, Eddy and Ed were up talking late until 11 PM as usual. Edd had reminded them of the importance of sleep countless times. But as much as he advised them. As much as they had ignored him.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! The alarm sounds eight times.
May taps the switch to turn off the alarm bell. The time reads 7:30, she then sits up, kneeling on the left end of the king-sized bed, her spot on the bed, and begins to push Lee and Marie to wake up.
"WAKE UP! SCHOOL TIME!" shouted May at the top of her lungs.
May has grown slightly taller than when she was 12 in eighth grade. Her hair has stayed the same, being very smooth and straight. Her buck teeth still remained noticeable, and she considers them to be one of her defining features. As she got older, more of her true self peered out into the world, so she naturally became more kind, though with the Kanker blood in her genes, assertive and brash. Still heavily influenced by her older siblings, just less.
Lee fluttered her hands at May, still lying in bed.
"I woke up after THE FIRST BEEP!" shouted Lee as she grabbed May's hand and dragged herself up from the bed, standing up and walking off the bed.
Lee has not changed that much. Being the first child, she absorbed most of her mother's teachings from her two younger siblings and assumed a significant role in the upbringing of Marie and May throughout their childhood, as their mother wasn't always present. So, what has changed from the Lee we knew then? She became more focused on working to get money and help her mother with the bills, taking care of her younger siblings, and maintaining the trailer. Bullying, harassing people has been out of her mind for quite some time, she never thought past it, it was just pushed back as she was occupied with more stuff. Still in high school, same grade as her two younger siblings, she rarely actually attends classes and goes to work instead, or something.
"Jeez, you could've said it less mean!" said May as she watched Lee leave.
Lee gave her a middle finger as she walked out of the room.
May turns back to Marie, lying on her side on the right edge of the bed, facing away from May. Her blue hair was messy after a night of sleep.
"Mar-" said May, preparing to push her before being immediately cut off by Marie.
"I'll wake." said Marie, almost a whisper, cutting off May, clearly exhausted.
"Okay then.. Marie." said May, as she skidded her way off the bed and made her way out the door.
"LEE! I woke up first! Let me use the shower first!" shouted May as she stomped out of the room, each step shaking the trailer, accompanied by a loud creak.
Marie laid out on the bed. She slowly pulled off the covers and sat up on the side of the bed, eyes half closed, while in her pajamas, with the bright morning sun reflecting off her skin. She got up and slowly walked over to where her phone was charging, taking it with her, and headed out of the door, down to the first floor of her trailer. She sat down on the couch while waiting for Lee to finish using the bathroom, slouched over with May next to her on her left, staring at the TV, which was blasting at an unreasonably high volume, playing commercials.
Marie. Her hair still a dash of blue we're all familiar with. She grew taller, she has pierced her ears. She's got an azurite necklace.
As a child, Marie was always known to be the most unpredictable of her two sisters. Her emotions could change from one to the opposite in a matter of seconds. Quick to anger. Rebellious. Nonconforming. Cunning. Sensitive at times. She got the lucky end of the intelligence stick, being both a talented artist and an intuitively skilled craftswoman.
So what has changed? Marie, in her early years, was aggressive to say the least. Which was the result of her being sensitive by nature, she is a person who feels deeply. What changed was that she learnt to understand her feelings more. How to understand other people more. The emotional intelligence developed with the help of spending too much time online after she grew out of her hormonal tween years, which were spent terrorizing the cul-de-sac. She's kept her bluntness, rebelliousness. And sensitivity, but she has learned a healthier way to express her emotions, other than bullying.
Marie raised her legs up and rested her legs on May's lap as she stared at the TV to stay awake.
"Marie, did you get any sleep at all?" May asked as she eyed Marie for a second.
Marie laid on the couch, not replying. May thought that she might not even have heard her speak. May then pushed Marie's legs off and stood up.
"I'm gonna go microwave some pancakes." said May, walking to the kitchen.
"Oh. Make some for me." said Marie as she looked over to May, her voice a groany morning voice.
"Come and make some for yourself!" shouted May from the kitchen, opening the refrigerator as her eyes moved around in search of microwavable waffles.
"What's so hard just stacking them on top of each other..." said Marie as she looked back and stared at the ceiling.
"Eat them cold then, Marie." said May, as she pulled out the package and unpacked them.
".. Doesn't seem like a bad idea, actually." said Marie as she laid down on the couch.
May scoffed at this, then she closed the microwave, assembled 2 pancakes on a plate, and put them in the microwave, setting the timer, and she started the machine as it began to whirr.
After a few seconds of buzzing from the microwave, the bathroom door opened as Lee stepped out with steam following her, walking into the kitchen.
"What 'ya makin'?" asked Lee as she adjusted her towel, looking at May.
"Pancakes." answered May as she began to walk to the bathroom door.
"Some for me? I did buy it." said Lee, looking at the microwave.
"Why ask? You're gonna eat mine anyway." answered May, narrowing her eyes at Lee.
Lee chuckled.
"Haha, dang right." said Lee, smirking.
May walked into the bathroom and closed the door as Lee walked out of the kitchen and made her way onto the staircase in their living room.
"Wow, Marie, you look like a zombie. Again." said Lee, looking at Marie briefly as she stepped upstairs.
Marie ignored what she said as she continued typing stuff on her phone, lying with her stomach down on the couch.
Edd is in his car, dressed up in his usual orange fall jacket, his parents had gotten him a car a few weeks after his sixteenth birthday. He got his driving license on the first try, of course he did. On the passenger seat next to him was Eddy, and in the backseat were Ed and Sarah. Ever since he got his car, he has been driving Ed, Eddy, and Sarah to Peach Creek High School.
"Soo.. gentlemen, what activities occupied you two last night?" Edd asked as he was driving on the road.
Eddy, sitting in the front passenger seat, looked over to Edd, wearing his usual yellow fall sweater.
"Same stuff. Lumpy and I were up 'cause some assholes in GTA kept talking smack and getting salty. I couldn't leave." said Eddy, staring out through the window, not focused on any scenery, he's just looking out there.
Eddy is still considered short for his age of 17. Eddy has dark hair over his head now, and most of the time it is almost doused with gel. His desire for materialism is still there. Though he chooses not to work, opting for a more unorthodox hustle, buying snacks outside school and selling them to people at lunch. He does make a regular profit from it. And sometimes Edd and Ed would help, and they would get some pay out of the business as well.
Over the years, Eddy has grown to become a more charming person after realizing he needs them to be able to do anything he's passionate about, making money, and getting girls. He has learned to admit his mistakes, apologize, and understand when he does wrong. Slightly lowering his egomania.
"Should've just let it go, Eddy. No point in squabbling with strangers whom you are unlikely to encounter again in your lifetime." said Edd, as he focused on the road.
'But Edd! We have to fight against the bad guys!" said Ed as he pouted.
Ed has grown taller, being one of the tallest in the school. He has a buzzcut and gets it always, mostly cause he doesn't know what other hairstyles to get. Nothing changed much as he is still the same goofy, lovable big guy that he is and always has been.
"Did you complete your homework?" said Edd. Glancing at Ed through the rearview mirror.
"... Noo..." said Ed, looking down at the car floor mat.
"You could've used the time wasted on those people to instead invest in your academic pursuits." said Edd, looking back on the road.
"Jeez, Double D, we can just do it at school." said Eddy, looking at Edd and rolling his eyes before turning back to the window,
"You stayed up late, and you plan to rush your homework at school? Sleepy and hurried?" said Edd.
"Quit talkin' like you're my dad, Double D." said Eddy, looking at Edd.
"Eddy, I'm merely offering you advice on what I believe is in your best interests." said Edd.
Edd, being the kind-hearted soul he is, has always felt responsible for his friend's well-being and tries his best to always give advice and improve his friends every time he has the chance to. Which is not a bad thing, but sometimes it can get annoying for those around him, because it can feel patronizing.
"Oh-ho my god!" said Sarah, giggling at something on her phone.
Sarah is now in tenth grade, best friends with Jimmy. She has gotten taller, considered to be the average height for someone at her age of 15. Same straight orange hair. Same style of fashion.
It is 8:20 AM, and the three Kanker sisters are walking together to school. Walking through the chilly, slightly foggy autumn morning, headed to another normal day of school, together along the sidewalks, Lee, thinking when she would diverge from school to get away to her work. May thinking about how cold it is, and Marie yawning as she looked at the sky and appreciated the cool weather.
As they got inside the school, they split up to do their business. First period, she walked over to her class and sat down in her seat.
Edd also has the same first period as Marie's, which is English class. There are 4 rows vertically and 4 rows horizontally. Edd sits in front of Marie on the left side of the classroom, and Edd sits in the second row.
Marie slumps on the table due to her tiredness as the teacher walks into the class with an audible door click, which ends the chattering in the class. Mr. Carter. He's in his 30s and is a fair teacher who genuinely enjoys teaching.
Mr. Carter sets down his backpack on the table.
"Good morning, class! Wake up!" as he snaps his fingers around.
Marie looked up from her slumped position, tired, while Edd was already actively listening and paying attention to the teacher the moment he walked in. Edd already has his notebook out on his desk, ready to write down whatever Mr. Carter has to say. Marie does have a notebook for this subject, but it is rarely used, and she mostly just rips pages off to draw. Not much is noted.
"Edd.. Ah, man. Haven't.. talked...? No, haven't, uhm, harassed him in a while. Whatever." Marie thought to herself as she looked at the boy with the beanie in front of her.
"Okay, class, now that I have your attention. I have a project for you guys that I want to be completed by the end of next Thursday. It is very simple and easy, and I believe I might've even given you guys even more than enough time." said Mr. Carter as he stood in front of the class.
The classroom listened.
"For this assignment, I want you guys to form a pair."
