Chapter four
Silver had been seeing Firefly almost every day for three weeks, And she had never felt more free.
Her mother was confused as to why her daughter had been waking up every morning with a spring in her step, And why she always went out for so long.
Nightsilver was worried she might be getting suspicious, But she found it was hard to worry when she was with Firefly.
Firefly had this strange effect on her that she didn't want to admit. Whenever she was around the Rainwing she found it hard to focus on anything else.
Today they were flying around a more branch-ey part of the forest, And Firefly was showing Silver how to swing over branches with her tail.
This was hard for the Nightwing, Considering her tail wasn't made for that exact purpose.
She tried to slip between two vines and ended up getting her wings tangled in both of them. Firefly stopped and came back to help untangle her, Trying to hide her laugh.
"Just like old times, Hmm?" she said jokingly. "That was just three weeks ago! And last time I was stuck for at least twenty minutes." Silver tried to shake the vines of her wings, With no success.
"Three weeks. Really?" The Rainwing's golden eyes grew distant, Like she was staring at a horizon that Silver couldn't see. "It seems like I've known you for so much longer than that."
Nightsilver agreed. She had been thinking about Firefly more and more, And that made it seem like they saw each other much more than they really did.
Firefly freed Silver's wings and they stopped for a minute on a branch below the scene. It was soon after midday, With the sun still high in the sky. They had stopped just in front of a clearing surrounded by thickets of branches.
Silver was worried about flying through them. She had been practicing with Firefly for three weeks, But they looked thick. And big. And easy to get tangled in.
Firefly nudged her wing. "Ready to fly?" she asked.
"Um… Maybe?"
The Rainwing shrugged. "Sounds like it! Follow me."
She took off and glided across the clearing, Faster than Silver was expecting.
The Nightwing followed her as best as she could, But when they reached the edge of the clearing, Nightsilver realized she was in over her head.
They made it five minutes of dodging before Firefly stopped on a small canopy of vines.
"Reach me and then we should stop. You might not be ready for this."
'I'm ready!"
Nightsilver Started flying faster, Determined to prove herself.
"Silver, Watch out!" The Nightwing didn't listen. She ducked between two branches and as she rose on the updraft-
"NIGHTSILVER!"
BAM!
Her head hit a branch she hadn't seen. She flapped her wings desperately but her thoughts were clouded.
The last thing she saw before her vision went dark was Firefly, Scales light green, Diving to catch her as Silver fell toward the forest floor.
