A/N: Hello everyone, this is my very first Resident Evil series fanfic. I've been a huge fan of the film franchise and the story takes place during the very first movie, except for a slight twist: there will be an eighth member on the Sanitation Team whom will slowly enter into a loving-sibling like relationship with Alice later on as they fight to stay alive in The Hive.
Reviews and comments will be appreciated.
Chapter 1: Newcomer to the Team
"I can't fuckin' believe HQ is assigning a new guy to our team!" A dark haired Latina woman in full tactical gear muttered underneath her breath which was still audible for her teammates to hear.
"Just let it go already Rain." A dark haired Hispanic man muttered back in return while sighing as his hot tempered female partner wouldn't let the subject go.
The entire Sanitation Team working under the Umbrella Corporation, had been called in by their squad leader and captain, James Shade, answering by the call sign 'One', informing them that an incident had happened at the Hive and were brought in for a short debriefing...along with being introduced to a new addition to the team. Naturally, the entire squad were surprised that their superiors were assigning a new addition into their ranks and the only member of the team that was completely unhappy about it was the short tempered Latina.
"I'm just saying that we've handled and completed every assignment Umbrella has sent us the last three years perfectly, just the seven of us." The female commando replied, explaining her reasons for being the only one unhappy with letting a last minute stranger onto their team.
"You think the rest of us are happy about this Ocampo? We're not. But if our superiors say some new guy is joining our team, it's going to happen." Another male commando rebuffed while loading six .44 Special caliber rounds into his Taurus revolver and stating that she wasn't the only one unhappy with letting an outsider joining their team on such short notice.
"What do we even know about this guy anyway?" The dark haired Hispanic commando asked, wondering if anyone even knew anything about the new addition to their team...which no one answered and shrugged, indicating they had no information about the recruit.
"Wait a second..." Rain muttered, as she noticed the commando whom was cleaning the chambers to his Taurus revolver had nervously placed his sidearm into a holster on the right side of his tactical belt and avoiding eye contact with the others in the small briefing room.
"Kaplan...you know something. Don't you?" She stated accusingly, suspecting that her team's computer specialist knew something about the new member to their squad, which earned the attention of the rest of the Sanitation Team.
"I have no idea what you're..." The team tech specialist tried to dismiss, but was met with dark looks from the rest of his team: showing they were not in the mood for his pathetic attempts to lie.
"...Alright, I did some digging. Except there wasn't that much to find." He stated after giving off a deep sigh, knowing there was no point in trying to keep information from his teammates...especially to avoid a beating from the short-tempered Latina.
"What info do you have on this guy?" Another male member of the team, Warner asked as he and the rest of the squad were curious by what their computer specialist learned about the newcomer.
"His name is Morgan. He was born on August 15th, 1976 and raised in Seattle, Washington. He joined the Army at the age of 22 and trained at Fort Benning as a marksman/sharpshooter for two years. He was recruited into the Rangers, 75th Regiment and did two tours in Afghanistan. He was honorably discharged from the service three months ago and recruited by HQ shortly afterwards." Kaplan answered, revealing what little information he dug up on the new addition to their team: his last name, date of birth, home town and service record in the military.
"That's it?" The second female commando asked, speaking in a Russian accent with a somewhat unimpressed look on her face after hearing of the new guy's service in the Army and the rest of the squad found the information a little suspect.
"Yeah, that pretty much sums everything up." Their computer specialist answered, showing he didn't have anymore information for the rest of his teammates.
"If you guys want real answers, you can ask him yourself when he and One arrive." Kaplan added, telling his squad mates that if they wanted real answers to ask Morgan themselves when he and One arrived.
"Ask who what?" A deep male voice demanded in a sharp and direct authoritative tone, which belonged to an African American wearing the same tactical gear as the rest of them...along with the new addition to their team.
Both the Russian and Latina commandos' did a double take, as this Morgan was not what they expected, along with J.D., Kaplan and other two male commandos after seeing him. The new recruit, Morgan, stood 5'11, was approximately 26 years old, Caucasian with tanned skin, teal green eyes and reddish brown hair in a French crop style. He had a muscular built body and arms, which the entire team naturally assumed had been from intense training: lifting weights, sit-ups, push ups and slim muscular legs, which was no doubtingly the result from performing multiple 100 yard dashes. The most notable features he had were the two tattoos he had grafted onto his right/left arms. The tattoo on his left upper arm was a Chinese or Japanese dialect, which none of the commandos knew meant and the tattoo on the right was of a wolf howling which was magnificently grafted onto the skin. They had also noticed the weapon case he was holding in his right hand before placing it on the ground beside his right leg.
"This is the team?" The new addition to the Sanitation Team, Morgan asked while crossing his arms, showing he wasn't the slightest intimidated or impressed by the unfriendly glances that Rain and the rest of the squad were giving him.
"Please, have a seat." The team leader answered with a nod before gesturing for the new member to his task force to sit down...which he refused by pressing his back against an empty locker.
"If it's all the same Captain, I'll stand." Morgan replied with his arms still crossed and left leg propped over his right while leaning back against one of the unoccupied lockers, showing he preferred to stand rather than sit as the rest of the squad gathered around for the mission debriefing...much to half of the team's amusement.
"Seeing as all of you of heard, HQ has assigned a new member to our team. I'd like everyone to meet Cade Morgan: he is a former Lance Corporal in the Army Rangers. He is a skilled marksman/rifleman and served two tours in the Kandahar Province in Afghanistan." The squad leader, James "One" Shade leader started off, introducing Morgan to the rest of the Sanitation Team...with JD and Warner snickering softly after hearing and learning the new guy's first name: Cade.
"Despite the fact that Morgan has been assigned to our team...and most of us don't want an inexperienced rookie fresh out of Selections in our ranks: he is our equal and is to be treated as such. Is that in anyway unclear?" He stated, informing his elite squad that despite their strong objections and displeasure, Morgan was now part of their squad and was to be treated equally as their fellow operative.
"Yeah...we got it." Rain and the rest of the team muttered, while Cade simply rolled his eyes and glanced away while shaking his head in disgust at how childish Umbrella's so called elite Sanitation Team was being simple because he was assigned to their squad.
"There's been an incident at the Hive. Five hours ago, the Red Queen murdered every employee stationed inside the facility for unspecified reasons. Our mission parameters are to rendezvous with the two security operatives assigned to the mansion guarding the secret entrance, infiltrate the Hive and shut the Red Queen down." One continued in a flat and strict tone, informing his team of highly trained operatives of the situation regarding their mission: how the highly advanced supercomputer designed to supervise the secret genetic experiments being conducted in the underground facility had murdered all the employees for reasons unknown and they were being sent in to shut down the out of control Artificial Intelligence.
"Has there been any response from the two operatives stationed at the mansion?" Kaplan respectively asked his squad leader, with the rest of the team wondering the same thing.
"Unfortunately, neither security operative have responded, which means they've gone dark." One answered while shaking his head 'no', stating that HQ hadn't heard from either of the operatives tasked with guarding the entrance to the Hive.
"When do we leave for the mansion?" Morgan asked while already knowing the answer and noticing the unfriendly glare that Rain was shooting his way, which he simply ignored as he glanced directly at his commanding officer.
"We leave in five minutes. Everyone, pack whatever equipment and as much ammo as you need. This is no different than any other mission we handled before." One answered professionally, informing the entire team to pack up their own piece of equipment and having as much ammunition for their weapons as needed, in case they ran into any complications during their assignment.
"Got something you want to get off your chest?" Cade asked in a demanding tone, as he noticed the glare the short tempered Latina was still sending his way after Shade ended the team briefing.
"Listen here recruit, just because your on this team, it doesn't mean your one of us. If you slow us down or fuck up once we reach the Hive...I'll shoot you myself." Rain spat acidly, informing the ex Army Ranger that even though he was on the Sanitation Team it didn't make him a teammate or equal and threatened to kill him herself the moment he became a liability during their mission in the Hive!
"Was that supposed to make me run out here, crying like a little bitch?" The brunette haired man calmly asked, while scoffing at the Latina commando's death threat...which genuinely surprised Kaplan, JD and Warner: as they never saw or met anyone who wasn't the least intimidated by Rain's aggressive personality and equally short temper!
"Oh, you'll be doing a whole lot more than crying when I'm through..." The female commando snarled as she lunged right at him and attempted to land a right hook to his face...only for the ex-Army Ranger to simply side step to the left: moving his head out of her reach and thanks to his faster reflexes, he had shoved and slammed Rain face first against the locker he had been leaning against...much to surprise of the entire team!
"Get the fuck off...Ah!" The short tempered Latina growled before crying out in pain as Morgan had swiftly grabbed her right wrist, pulling it behind her back and began to painfully twisted it while pressing her against the locker!
"Now...are you just about done?" Cade replied in a calm manner while asking Rain if she was just about finished with her attitude towards him.
"Fuck you." She replied while pushing herself off from the locker and attempting to land an elbow to the brunette's face...only for him to dodge once again and throw her across the locker room, where JD and Warner caught her!
"You mother..." Rain snarled underneath her breath and attempted to charge at him again...only to be held back by her partner and teammate!
"Goddamn it Rain, calm down! He is not worth it!" The Hispanic commando cried out as he and Warner struggled to hold her back...even though they were still greatly surprised and stunned by how easily the new addition to their squad had stood his ground and restrained his partner while easily evading her attacks.
"That is enough!" One barked out with a heated glare on his face as he ordered the entire Sanitation Team, especially Rain to stand down!
"Rain...I'm deeply disappointed with you and your attitude towards Morgan. If you try to attack him again...you are through: you're off the team." He added while looking directly at the Latina, showing he was greatly disappointed and disgusted with her foul attitude towards the new addition to their squad and gave her an ultimatum: either back off the brunette or he would kick her off the team!
"You can't be fucking serious!" The short tempered commando cried out, as she couldn't believe that her squad leader would actually throw her off the Sanitation Team, along with JD as he and Warner continued to hold her back!
"Try me." One replied plain and simple while narrowing his eyes, as if daring the Latina to push her luck and hoping that he wasn't serious about kicking her off the squad.
"...Fine." Rain stated bluntly, showing she would back off the new addition to the team...while leering at Morgan, whom leered back at the female commando as her teammates eventually released their hold of her.
"A wise choice." Cade stated plain and simple before picking up and opening the weapons case: revealing the contents which consisted of a military issued Beretta M9 with a grey slide and Colt M4 carbine outfitted with an M68 Aimpoint scope and RIS fore grip/Surefire M900A weapon light.
"Damn, nice hardware...for an Army Ranger." JD stated plainly while complimenting the new guys choice of weapons: as both the handgun and assault rifle were US military issued.
"Heh, thanks. I used these bad boys while I was fighting the Taliban and Al-Qaeda back in the Stan." The brunette stated with a soft grin on his face as he placed the Beretta in the holster strapped onto the right side of his belt and loading a 30 round mag into the M4 while performing a brass check.
"The Stan?" Kaplan asked softly while glancing around the locker room, wondering if One or any of his squad mates knew what 'the Stan' was?"
"It's military lingo for Afghanistan." JD answered while rolling his eyes as he had to explain to his squad's computer specialist that 'the Stan' was a nickname that US Marines and Rangers gave for Afghanistan as he examined his handgun and pulled back the slide, to make sure it would not jam in case he would need to use it.
After the Sanitation Team had gone over their own gear: making sure they had packed enough ammo for their H G36K assault rifles and MP5k submachine gun, along with four duffel bags carrying cutting edge equipment for their mission, they had exited the locker room and boarded the chopper.
A/N: There it is everyone, the first chapter to my Resident Evil chapter. I apologize if it seems off or lacking in details, but it was the best I could do on short notice. The 2nd chapter will be posted sometime by the beginning of February...hopefully. Until next time, bye.
