This silly little one shot came to me, once again, after watching the Future Past maps DLC. I always liked the idea of the DLC's, they definitely open up a lot of "what if" scenarios.

Robin pulled his sword from a Risen's chest, glancing around the ruins of this worlds Ylisstol. The Fell Dragon loomed over them like a mountain, it's roar deafening as it attacked the battlefield with dark magic. This future was as terrible as Lucina had described it, and despite this being his third visit to this world, seeing the barren wasteland and ruined cities once more brought newfound levity to the fight against the Fell Dragon in his world.

He glanced at Lucina, who was fighting two Risen at once - though it didn't take her long to kill them both. She looked angry and determined, and he could only imagine the impact of returning to a future ruined by Grima when they still hadn't saved their own. He quickly made his way over to her, and they surveyed the ruins of the palace together. When he approached, she looked to the ground.

"To think, this world would be fated to ruin if Naga hadn't sent us here." She muttered as she eyed her father and sister battling a group of Risen. Her face hardened to a glare as she eyed the Fell Dragon above them. "We will not allow Ylisse to fall today. No matter what happens, my counterpart must stop Grima here and now."

He nodded his agreement, eyeing the battlefield. After forming ranks around the warriors native to this world, quick orders had been shouted - hold off the Risen, slow down Grima, ensure the Outrealm Lucina survived to perform the awakening once the children they'd saved in their previous visits made it back. "We will. And once we're done saving this world, we'll get back to saving ours - and yours." He reached over and gave her free hand a quick squeeze. "I promise."

She gave him a soft smile which turned into a determined one as she squeezed his hand back.

"I'm going to ensure our forces don't get pulled too thin. I'll look out for Chrom, too. Stay safe!"

She nodded, and they split into two different directions.

The fighting continued for some time. Even though smoke and fire and explosions from magical spells obscured his view of the battlefield, he could tell that the Shepherds were holding fast. He knew his doppelganger was around here somewhere, commanding the Risen as he teleported around the battlefield. He'd assisted the others when they'd call out for backup, allowing them a reprieve to take a breath or exchange weapons so they could continue fighting.

As he continued making his rounds and shoring up their defenses, he saw Lucina struggling against an Entombed and three other Risen. "Hey! Lucina!" He sprinted forward at full speed, casting Thoron and destroying one of the Risen. The Entombed flailed its arms in surprise, and the exhausted Lucina could only raise Falchion to block the attack, which sent her flying back into a wall. She hit it with a hard thud, and Falchion fell from her hands. "No!" Robin roared, raising his Levin sword and destroying the Entombed. His second attack managed to draw the attention of the last Risen, who was finally made aware of the reinforcements the princess was receiving.

He managed to cut down the last Risen after trading two blows with it, then rushed over to Lucina. "Are you okay?" He asked as he helped her stand.

She took a breath, then nodded. "I owe you my thanks. You've come to my rescue once again."

Robin rolled his eyes. "How many times do I have to tell you we don't need to keep track of such things? I'm just glad you're alright." His face fell for a second. "Besides, I made you a promise, didn't I? In order to keep it, you have to be around to see it fulfilled, you know?"

Then he leaned in and gave her a kiss.

A simple one, quick and pleasant, nothing unusual for a husband and wife.

"Robin!"

He whirled around at a familiar voice.

Lucina was glaring at him, and he blinked in confusion. Before he could ask what was wrong, she lifted her left hand to show the wedding ring around her finger. "Wrong Lucina. She thinks you've been dead nearly twenty years."

Robin turned around slowly as the words registered in his head and then immediately jumped back, and saw Outrealm Lucina was glaring at him, her face so crimson it matched the hue of her cloak. His jaw dropped and the blood drained from his face. "It-I-Ah-"

Before anyone could say anything crazy, Lucina marched up to her husband and counterpart, giving the latter an apologetic look while she pulled the former away. "Sorry about that. I traveled back in time to save our father, and Robin and I ended up getting married. It was an honest mistake on his behalf. Please, excuse him."

Outrealm Lucina took a deep breath, held it, then let it out very slowly. She regained her composure and gave a curt nod. "I understand. Excuse me. I have to ensure victory is achieved."

As she walked away, Robin's shoulders slumped as he felt Lucina staring into the back of his head. "So do I get in trouble for cheating or do I get rewarded for loyalty?" He asked.

Lucina smacked the back of his head, and he got his answer.

The Outrealm Lucina caught sight of her father and rushed to join him in battle. It helped to focus her mind after having her first kiss stolen.

Of course, in the days to come after winning the battle, she'd think back on the moment and struggle to hold back a blush.

"He's just as dashing as I remember him to be. Still, to think in some other world I travelled back in time and married him. I hope she's happy. I know I am jealous."

You can have the future children marry each other, and I thought it'd be interesting if they had unique dialogue when you stop next to them in the game and they say something sweet, even if the DLC characters don't know about the romances. I'm surprised in Future Past 3, Robin has nothing to say after seeing Grima destroying Ylisstol. What if, indeed...
