The room dissolved into chaos as it sank in. Fox staggered backward, and Rex caught him.
"Ori'vod? Are you okay?" Fox clutched his head as memories flooded back to him. Flashes of red, the hum of energy, the pain of the burns. The Jedi all turned, as Cody grabbed Fox.
"Fox! Fox!" Fox looked at Cody.
"All this time. All this time!" he yelled. Cody shared a look with Rex, who just shook his head.
"Fox? What are you talking about, vod?" Fox simply shook his head, whimpering slightly as more memories crashed into him. Rex, Cody, and Punch shared a desperate glance, none of them knowing what to do. Cody and Rex looked to the Jedi, hoping they could help, but they were just as lost as the clones were. Cody gently lowered Fox to his knees, kneeling next to him.
Rex looked up as a Jedi sprinted into the room.
"Vos?" Punch sounded surprised. Quinlan Vos was a frequent visitor to the Coruscant Guard, and Obi-Wan knew he'd been trying to adopt the Guard as his battalion. Quinlan ignored Punch, walking up to Fox carefully, then sitting in front of him.
"Make it stop." Fox whispered. Quinlan nodded, and placed his hands on Fox's head. Fox nearly melted into his touch, from the sheer relief he was feeling. In contrast, Quinlan had stiffened up, and looked like he was trying to not faint.
Obi-Wan jumped forward, catching Quinlan as his eyes rolled back and he fainted. Obi-Wan was Quinlan's closest friend beside Aayla, Vos's padawan, and remembered all too well Quinlan's struggles when he was younger. He shifted Quinlan in his arms, depositing the Kiffar in his chair.
Rex and Cody were kneeling next to Fox, who was trying to calm down. He seemed to shake it off, as he looked up.
"Vos! What did he do?" He asked Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan nodded. "Quinlan is a Kiffar, which means that he has a very powerful ability, psychometry." Fox nodded, and Punch grimaced. They'd had to deal with Quinlan's abilities before.
"But what does psychometry have to do with... whatever Vos just did?" Punch asked.
Obi-Wan sighed. "Quin had a very hard time when we were younger, often getting knocked into trances, having been completely overwhelmed by the surge of memories he would get from objects he'd touched. He's... well, he's used to how hard it is. He was able to connect with you, to take the pain away. I believe that's what happened, at least."
Fox carefully got to his feet. He grabbed his helmet from where he had dropped it, and put it on again, relaxing at the familiar click-hiss it made. Obi-Wan cautiously asked him,
"Fox, are you able to tell us what you saw, or do you need a few minutes?" Fox blinked. He wasn't expecting a question- or a choice.
"I'm fine, sir. I can do it now." Obi-Wan nodded hesitantly.
"If you're sure." Fox was still confused by the Jedi's concern, but he found he didn't mind it.
"Yes, sir. I saw Chancellor Palpatine taking his lightsaber out on me. I... I remember I used to have dreams of red lightsabers blurring through the air. That was all I ever saw. I don't know what he did, but I didn't remember any of it until he pulled it on River."
The Jedi were all fuming slightly, and Obi-Wan was very upset. Fox was confused, and asked,
"Sir, what's the problem? How is that any different from anything else he's done?" Anakin sighed, explaining,
"Our lightsabers are our lives. We're to use them for defense, not for attack. For- for him to use his lightsaber on you, it's one of the worst things he could've done." Fox nodded.
"Oh." He was still processing the fact the Jedi didn't act just like Palpatine. Cody saluted and pulled him out into the hall, Rex and Punch following.
"Punch, head back to the Medbay and keep an eye on River." Punch nodded and left. Fox looked at his brothers. "We should call the others."
They all stepped away, each calling a brother. Fox called Wolffe, who was orbiting Coruscant on Plo's Venator. Wolffe put Sinker in charge, and immediately took a shuttle to the surface. Cody called Gregor, who was on leave on Coruscant. Rex called Howzer, who was with Gregor at the time. They came running up.
"We got your message." Gregor said.
"What happened?" Howzer asked, worried. Fox took a deep breath.
"Palpatine's been abusing the Guard and it turns out he's a Sith Lord, whatever that means, and all the Jedi are freaking out, and Vos passed out, and River's in the Medbay because I failed him, and I failed all my vod'ike, and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!" It all came out as he exhaled, and he sank to the floor. "I don't know what to do." he sighed, defeated. Wolffe crouched down next to him.
"Hey, hey, vod, we're going to get through this. We're going to fix this." Rex nodded, smirking slightly.
"I already know how."
Howzer whistled. "That was fast, even for you! How?"
Rex grinned mischievously. "Simple. We give Fox and Cody each a steel chair, and unleash them. All our problems will be dead within the hour." Wolffe snorted, while Howzer and Gregor laughed quietly. Cody just looked at Rex, but Fox smiled slightly.
"I wish." Cody sighed, smiling.
"Well, while that would be fun, I think we'd need a better plan." He pulled Wolffe and Fox up. "Let's go see what the Jedi are planning."
They entered the chambers to chaos once again.
AN. Anyone enjoying this? I feel like its hard to write Fox sometimes, just because I don't know him too well, but it's also really fun. I feel like he is the epitome of 'protective ori'vod mode activated'. I feel like he really would die for his brothers without a second thought, but would never let them do the same for him. Poor Fox has terrible self-esteem. And a terrible boss, and a terrible job, and quite honestly, a horrible life. Well, I have a feeling that he'll be getting a new boss soon... read on to find out!
May the Force be with you!
