Disclaimer: still don't own avatar :(

It was early morning, I was watching the sun rise as Aang and Katara were packing up our things.

"Wait till you see it, Katara, the air temple is one of the most beautiful places in the world!" Aang said.

"I can agree," I replied, "I love the flowers that bloom on the sides of buildings in spring,"

"I know you guys are excited, but it's been-" Katara started before being interrupted by Aang loudly clearing his throat. He had been doing this for a while, making a loud interrupting noise whenever anybody tried to mention how long it had been since we were in the iceberg.

"Right-I'm just glad you two are excited to go home," Katara finished. Aang nodded before jumping down to Sokka, who was still asleep.

"Wake up Sokka!" Aang exclaimed, "Air temple here we come!"

"Sleep now, temple later," Sokka groaned, turning in his sleeping bag. Aang grabbed a stick that was beside him and began to trace it down Sokka's sleeping bag.

"Sokka, wake up! There's a prickle snake in your sleeping bag!" He exclaimed. Sokka quickly began screaming, and hobbled around in his sleeping bag. I broke out into laughter as I watched him flail around.

"Great, you're awake! Let's go,"Aang said with a smile.

I was holding bun-bun, flopping her ears with my fingers, when suddenly I heard a loud grumbling noise from next to me.

"Hey stomach, be quiet, alright? I'm trying to find us some food," Sokka said, clutching his stomach with his hand.

"I don't think you're gonna find food in the sky, Sokka," I said,"Unless you wanna eat a bird or something,"

"At this point, I think I might," he sighed, causing me to make a gagging noise. Sokka proceeded to search through his bag, finding only crumbs.

"Hey! Who ate all my blubbered seal jerky?" He asked.

"Blubbered seal jerky?" I thought, "gross!"

"Oh, that was food?" Aang asked blankly,"I used it to start the camp fire last night, sorry,"

"You what?" Sokka exclaimed before letting out a sigh, "aww, no wonder the flames smelled so good!" Suddenly, I noticed an abundance of rocks, and recognized it as the Patola Mountain Range.

"We're almost there!" Aang exclaimed.

"Aang, before we get to the temple I want to talk to you about something," Katara said. Aang looked over at her before whispering something in her ear. I tried to read his lips, but he covered his mouth with his hands. Katara nodded.

"What are they talking about?" I wondered in my thoughts. When we had completely flown over the mountains, the air temple was in view. But there were no monks or bison or lemurs in sight. It was almost as if the temple had been abandoned.

"There it is, the southern air temple," Aang said.

"It's amazing!" Katara exclaimed.

"We're home Kiri," Aang said, turning his head to face me.

"We're home," I repeated.

"Aang, why does this place seem abandoned?" I asked, turning my head to face my brother as we walked up the long, winding path.

"I bet that everyone is just hiding," Aang said, "maybe to pull a prank because we've been gone for a couple of days, how about you go search for them," I nodded reluctantly before zooming away with airbending. I searched around the temple, noticing that there were weeds everywhere. Suddenly, I noticed a strange object on the ground, and knelt down to pick it up. Looking closer at it, I recognized the object as a Fire Nation solider's helmet and let out a gasp.

"Where did this come from?" I thought. I decided to bring it to Aang.

I had been searching around the temple for a while, when I saw the doors to the air temple sanctuary open. I walked into the sanctuary, figuring that if the door was open, Aang had to be inside.

"Hey guys!" I said, walking over to my brother and friends. Aang and Katara seemed to be startled by my entrance, and quickly turned to face my direction.

"Hi Kiri!" Aang said nervously. I frowned.

"Are they hiding something from me?" I thought.

"Uh… I found this," I said, pulling out the Fire Nation soldier helmet from behind my back.

"Where did you get that?" Aang demanded, snatching the helmet from me.

"I found it in one of the hallways," I admitted, "it looked interesting, so I picked it up,"

"Oh, well, if you find any more, tell me!" Aang said nervously.

"Are you hiding something from me?" I asked with a frown.

"Hiding something? Why would I be hiding something? How can you think that I would be-" he noticed the glare I was giving him and sighed.

"Okay, I was hiding something," Aang sighed, facing the floor.

"Does it have to do with how long we were in the iceberg?" I asked, "or what happened to the airbenders?" Aang sighed again.

"Yes, we were in the iceberg for 100 years and…" Aang started, "there's been a war the whole time," my eyes widened in shock as I took in how much he was really hiding from me.

"One hundred years…a war?" I asked, feeling anger and sadness boil up inside me,"WHY DID YOU KEEP THIS FROM ME?!" Aang stepped back, his eyes full of shock. I had gotten mad at him before, but never this mad.

"HOW COULD YOU KEEP A WHOLE 100 YEAR WAR FROM ME? A WAR THAT POSSIBLY WIPED OUT OUR PEOPLE!" I screamed as tears streamed down my cheeks .

"I-I'm sorry Kiri, I really am!" Aang said, tears forming in his eyes.

"I DONT CARE! THERE HAS BEEN WAR FOR 100 YEARS, AND YOU WERE JUST EXPECTING FOR ME TO NOT FIND OUT?!" I continued.

"I WAS GONNA TELL YOU EVENTUALLY!" Aang snapped, causing me to step back,"YOU KNOW, ITS KIND OF HARD TO EXPLAIN 100 YEARS OF EVENTS TO A TEN YEAR OLD!" Suddenly, Katara came between us and put up both of her hands.

"Guys, you need to calm down!" She said, her tone firm,"all this arguing isn't gonna do you any good," I sighed, slightly calming down at Katara's words.

"Thanks Katara," Aang sighed.

"I'm out of here," I grumbled, shooting Aang a glare before stomping out the sanctuary.

A few minutes later, I was walking around the temple, cringing at the sight of the burn marks and loose Fire Nation soldier helmets. Suddenly, I heard an explosion.

"What could that have possibly been?" I wondered. I looked out the window and saw a giant tornado, which made me gasp. I quickly ran over to it, wanting to know the reason for a tornado on a sunny, clear day. Coming closer to the tornado, I noticed a familiar figure inside, its glowing eyes and tattoos being the focus of my vision.

"Aang!" I thought.

"WHAT HAPPENED?" I shouted, having to raise my voice because of the loud wind.

"Aang found out fire benders killed Gyatso!" Sokka exclaimed. I gasped as tears formed in my eyes.

"I'm gonna try to calm him down!" Katara said.

"I-I'm coming t-too," I said through choked sobs.

"Akira, it's dangerous!" Sokka exclaimed.

"I'm an airbender, I've got this," I replied.

Slowly, Katara and I made our way over to my brother. It pained me to see him like this .

"Aang! I know you're upset, and I know how hard it is to lose the people you love!" Katara exclaimed,"I went through the same thing when I lost my mom,"

"Gyatso and the other airbenders may be gone, but you still have a family," she continued, "You've always had Akira, but you have Sokka and I too, were your family!"

Aang slowly began to come down from his tornado, and the winds cleared. I sighed in relief as he finally made it to the ground, and ran over to hug him, not even caring that his eyes and tattoos were still glowing. Tears poured out of my eyes.

"Katara and I aren't gonna let anything happen to you guys, promise" Sokka said in a soft tone. Katara grabbed Aang's hand, and the glow began to fade. He dropped to the ground with a sigh, and I dropped down too, my quiet sobs still existing.

"I'm sorry," Aang said as he wrapped his arms around me.

"It's okay, it wasn't your fault," Katara said reassuringly, rubbing his back with her hand.

"But you were right," Aang continued, pulling his head away from our hug,"and if firebenders found this temple, that means they found the other ones too,"

"Kiri and I really are the last airbenders," tears began to form in his eyes as he placed his head back where it was. We were crying together, just as we did the day Aang found out he was the avatar.

"Kiri," Aang said softly, lifting up his head.

"Mhm?" I responded, my head still buried in his chest.

"I promise I will never, ever leave your side," I nodded, feeling sad but also grateful that I at least had Aang with me.

"You, me, Kiri, and Appa" Aang said to a lemur that he found earlier, "we're all that's left of this place, we have to stick together,"

"Guys, say hello to the newest member of our family, " he continued.

"What are you gonna name him?" I asked. Suddenly, the lemur sprung up from Aang's arm and stole a peach from Sokka.

"Momo," Aang responded when lemur landed back on his arm. Aang, Katara and I giggled as we looked at Sokka's shocked face.

Later…

We were all sitting in Appa's saddle. I was looking at the sunset, admiring its beauty. Suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. it was Aang.

"Yeah?"I asked.

"Are we cool?" Aang asked. I figured he was referring to the argument we had in the sanctuary.

"Mhm," I said, my head still turned to face the sunset,"but no more lies," I added as I looked my brother in the eyes.

"I pinkie promise that there will be no more lies," Aang said, holding up his pinkie. I nodded and interlocked my pinkie into his.
