Chapter 1: The City With No King
Buncheon: A City on the Brink
Buncheon, once a thriving metropolis known for its rich cultural heritage and bustling markets, has deteriorated into a lawless urban sprawl. The city's infrastructure crumbles under the weight of neglect, and its streets are overrun by warring gangs vying for control. The government has all but abandoned Buncheon, leaving a power vacuum that criminal organizations are all too eager to fill. The populace lives in fear, businesses shutter their doors before sunset, and the concept of justice is a distant memory.
In this chaos, five major gangs have risen to prominence:
1.The Red Fang: Notorious for their brutality and extortion rackets, they control the northern districts.
2.The Iron Shadows: Experts in smuggling and underground dealings, they operate from the eastern docks.
3.The Serpent's Coil: Masters of espionage and assassination, their influence permeates the western sectors.
4.The Jade Ravens: A syndicate with ties to corrupt officials, they manipulate the southern boroughs.
5.The Onyx Brotherhood: A coalition of smaller gangs unified under a single banner, they hold sway over the central district.
These factions are in a constant state of conflict, their battles turning neighborhoods into war zones. Civilians are often caught in the crossfire, leading to a pervasive sense of hopelessness.
Seo Ryujin: The Reluctant Observer
Amidst this turmoil resides Seo Ryujin, a young man in his early twenties. Standing at an pretty tall height (6'2) with a lean, athletic build, Ryujin possesses sharp, calculating eyes that seem to pierce through deception. His dark hair is often unkempt, a reflection of his indifferent attitude towards societal norms.
Ryujin's past is shrouded in mystery. Rumors whisper of a prodigious martial artist who vanished from the competitive scene after a tragic incident. Some say he was once the heir to a renowned dojo, while others believe he was a street fighter who climbed the ranks only to disappear at his peak. Whatever the truth, Ryujin now leads a reclusive life, working at a modest bookstore on the outskirts of the city.
Despite his attempts to remain inconspicuous, Ryujin is acutely aware of the city's decline. He observes the gangs' activities, noting their tactics and territories. His analytical mind dissects their power structures, understanding that the city's chaos stems from the absence of a unifying force—a king to bring order to the madness.
The Catalyst: A Child in Peril
One evening, as the sun dips below the horizon and shadows stretch across the dilapidated buildings, Ryujin closes the bookstore and begins his walk home. The air is thick with tension, a palpable reminder of the city's volatility.
As he navigates the narrow alleys, a commotion draws his attention. Turning a corner, he witnesses a scene that ignites a long-suppressed fire within him.
A young boy, no older than ten, is cornered by a group of thugs bearing the insignia of the Red Fang. The child clutches a small satchel to his chest, his eyes wide with terror.
Thug Leader: "Hand over the bag, kid, and maybe we'll let you walk away."
Boy: "Please, it's all we have left… my sister is sick…"
The thug leader sneers, raising his hand to strike the boy. Before the blow lands, a firm voice cuts through the tension.
Ryujin: "That's enough."
The thugs turn to see Ryujin standing a few feet away, his posture relaxed but his gaze unwavering.
Thug Leader: "Mind your own business, pal, unless you're looking for trouble."
Ryujin: "Let the boy go. Now."
The gang members exchange glances before bursting into laughter.
Thug Leader: "And what are you gonna do about it?"
Ryujin sighs, stepping forward. The thugs move to intercept him, but before they can react, Ryujin explodes into action.
His movements are a blur, a harmonious blend of speed and precision. He dispatches the first thug with a swift strike to the solar plexus, sending him crumpling to the ground. The second lunges at Ryujin with a knife, but Ryujin sidesteps effortlessly, gripping the assailant's wrist and applying pressure to a nerve point, forcing the weapon to drop. With a fluid motion, he flips the thug over his shoulder, rendering him unconscious upon impact.
The leader, now visibly shaken, pulls out a baton and swings wildly. Ryujin ducks under the attack, closing the distance between them. He delivers a precise palm strike to the thug's chin, followed by a sweeping kick that knocks him off his feet. The leader lands hard, groaning in pain.
Ryujin stands over him, his voice calm but firm.
Ryujin: "The Red Fang doesn't own these streets. Tell your boss there's a new player in town."
The thug nods frantically before scrambling to his feet and fleeing, leaving his comrades behind.
Ryujin Then Turned around facing the Boy That was still in shock,
Boy:J-just who are y-you!?
Ryujin smirked,
Ryujin: I'm just a guy that helps clean the streets of Buncheon from bad people like them.
