Reader20448: Thanks, Bakugou's and Monoma's fates were caused by their actions, karma's being a bitch. Momo's confidence comes from wanting to do more for her friends, so she's very different from her anime/manga counterpart.
BurstEvolution9000: The barrier comes from him using Gearshift on the air, stopping the air molecule entirely in its place. And no, that's just straying too far, he won't be pulling a feat as crazy as Vibe or even using ice to freeze time.
Fatah D Astraf: No problem, and you will see.
woven.ruiz: Yup, Bakugou's getting thrown under the bus for the rest of the arc. Todoroki's still stronger than most of the students, but he will need to join the class to get through some of the students.
Mr.BrownOptometrist: Thanks.
Mariegray90: Jesus, how desperate are you to earn some money? Here's a job application for you. You will get rejected with the current unrealistic job requirements, but at least you try.
With Shinsou
UA Stadium
"…." Shinsou can be seen gritting his teeth in frustration after the loss. He can't believe he ended up getting disqualified from the second round, all because he was careless not paying attention to his surroundings and getting too greedy.
He knows Midoriya is not an easy foe to defeat given how he easily gets first place in the first round and completely skips the second obstacle like it was nothing but a breeze. He also noticed how the majority of his classmates were very confident about the First-Year Representative so much that they wanted to team up with him despite the huge target on his back.
But, his desperation wanting to be in the hero course truly blinded him, his success in controlling 4 people at once with no strains had made him confident, and the successful attempt to trap the 10 million team made him oblivious to his surroundings. He let out a wince as he was still feeling the pain from Bakugou's outrage and quirk, which also broke his control over the other three heroic students. He supposed it was the karma he got for attempting to control someone as volatile as Bakugou, who got kicked out for the attempt to bully and murder Midoriya.
When he first meets him, he can't help but wonder why would he try to bully him. After hearing Midoriya's speech, he thought that may be due to how different they are in terms of how they see heroics. But, after the revelation from the main commentator, he finally gets the full picture, especially when he remembers the constant cursing from Bakugou towards 'Deku', a short for Dekunobou, which means a wooden doll or in an insulting way, a good-for-nothing.
It made Shinsou rethink how he should approach everything. He acts like a complete jerk despite nobody seeming to hate his quirk, he pushes away someone who simply wants to befriend him and chooses to be alone. He looks at the other General Department Group walking past and cheers happily regarding their victories. Shinsou feels his stomach twists and his heart aches. Despite acting like a complete jerk, he too wishes for companionship as in the past, everyone avoided him due to his quirk, and even some of his 'friends' insensitively joke about his quirk used for villainous stuff.
All he can do is watch from the distance as the person he pushes away hangs out with people who accept her friendship with open arms while enduring the physical and emotional pain from the loss.
"Eh, Shinsou?" Shinsou's thoughts are halted as Togeike, the girl he rudely pushes away, notices him and approaches him. "W-what happened!? We need to get you to Recovery Girl's infirmary as soon as possible!"
"W-what!? There's no need-!" Shinsou was cut off by Sato bridal-carrying him and walked toward the infirmary, making sure he didn't worsen Shinsou's injuries. "No, seriously, there's no need to-!"
"Oh, shut it," Togeike says sternly, cutting him off once again. "You're injured and in dire need of treatment. Getting you treated by Recovery Girl in the infirmary is an absolute must!"
"…..why?" Shinsou asks quietly, getting the team's attention. "I…was being a total jerk towards you guys, you guys could've just ignored me…"
"What kind of people do you think we are?" Togeike asks with a raised eyebrow. "Sure, you were a jerk, but that doesn't mean we'll just ignore you if we find you injured. We all wanted to be a hero, and ignoring you because you were a jerk is not right."
"……I'm sorry…" Shinsou mutters as Togeike looks at Shinsou in surprise. "I'm…sorry for being a dick…d-do you think we can start again?"
"….you were a complete jackass when Togeike tries to befriend you before." Sato decided to speak up, causing Shinsou to wince and look away guiltily.
"Fair enough, sorry for asking…" Shinsou mutters.
"I didn't say we can't," Togeike speaks up as Shinsou looks at her. "Sure, we can start over. You genuinely apologize for what you did, that's not something every jerk is willing to do to anyone, and Komori seems to give you a stamp of approval as she can sense how genuine you are. So, sure."
"….t-thanks, and again, I'm sorry…." Shinsou says before blinking. "Wait, what do you mean by sense how genuine I am? I thought her quirk is to create mushroom spores."
"…oh, right. You didn't join the fight club." Togeike mutters, making Shinsou furrow his eyebrow. "You missed a lot for not joining the club, especially since it taught us skills that could compensate for our lack of combat skills."
"…now that I think about it, why didn't you join the club?" Kyouriki speaks up. "I mean, given how desperate you want to be in the hero course, I expect you to join since it could've helped you a lot."
"….I honestly thought…it was a club exclusive for hero course students," Shinsou says as his face slowly turns pink. The four of them blink as they stare at Shinsou for a moment before they all burst into laughter while Shinsou's blushes darkens before he joins in.
With Michiru
Ogami can be seen walking around the stadium looking for his friend, Michiru. After the end of the second round, his friend ran off and left him with the rest of their teammates with no explanations, which Ogami easily deduced meant that she was upset over the fact that she had lost.
Ogami first met Michiru during the first day at UA, specifically during the orientation. The girl was late for the orientation and tried to sneak into the crowd but Ogami caught her in the act. He simply ignored her since she had done nothing wrong but Michiru mistook it as him helping her. After that, she stuck with him like glue, much to Ogami's annoyance.
From then on, he and Michiru seem to have become friends, albeit unintentionally. Michiru somehow managed to get herself into the worst possible situation, and he had to do whatever it took to get her out of that situation. His quirk, White Wolf, made him instinctively treat Michiru like a member of his pack, while Michiru had always been glad to have a friend who would help her despite the issues.
"Where did that girl go?" Ogami mutters to himself as he walks towards the stall section of the stadium before finding her munching a melon bread alone at the corner. "Kagemori, don't just run off like that…." Ogami's words die in his throat as he notices the lingering sadness coming from her. "Hey….Michiru…"
"…hey, Shirou…." Michiru mumbled as she bit her food. "Sorry, I run off…"
"…how are you feeling?" Shirou wince at himself when Michiru looks at him with a devastated expression. He curses himself for his choice of words and lack of socializing.
"…I'm not okay…" Michiru says before she bit off her bread violently. "I…I trained so hard for this moment, I did everything just to get myself into the next round, I even studied diligently just in case! But, every plan I made to get into the hero course…it all went to drain, all because I was late…."
"…" Ogami chooses to stay silent and listen, not trusting his own words.
"I….I didn't plan to be late….a villain attack happened near the neighborhood during that day and the road was blocked off….." Michiru rants. "I…I try everything to find a way to get to UA, but I end up late….I thought I would never get into the Hero Course until I overheard the second-year students talking about transferring to the Hero Course through the Sports Festival. I found a second chance….and I made sure this time, I won't screw up."
Ogami looks at his friend as she starts trembling, holding the piece of the melon bread and clenching her hands tightly, crushing the bread.
"I….I was beaten….I was beaten badly….I-I lost to the hero course students…..they were too much even for me….even when I team up with some of them…." Michiru says, her voice cracking and tears flowing out of her eyes. "I….lost….I lost the match…I lost my chance to get into the hero course… I don't know what to do anymore….everyone keeps saying there's next year….but, everyone will be much stronger than before….and I end up losing again…I want to remain positive and believe I could…b-but…..but…."
Michiru couldn't handle it anymore as she started breaking down in tears, sobbing while furiously wiping off the tears escaping her eyes. Ogami merely looks at her before pulling her into a one-armed hug. Usually, Ogami would never consider doing such things, but his friend needs support and he can't trust his own words, so he does it with his actions.
Meanwhile, Hound Dog, who was at the stall section to look for lunch, noticed the two of them and overheard the entire conversation. His responsibility as a teacher shouldn't show any favoritism and grant a favor to a student, but his heroic heart couldn't let the poor girl with such an unfair situation as heroes should fight against that unfairness. Currently, he is unsure what to do.
With Monoma
"Damn it!" Monoma slams his fist down in frustration as he is unable to comprehend that he has just lost in the second round. He was unable to comprehend how everything failed. He already had a perfect plan, he had perfect quirks copied in his hands, and even had teammates who had great potential. He had everything, but he lost.
"How….how can I lose? I had done everything right! It should've secured my victory!" Monoma hissed before taking a bite from his food. "I should've been able to lead my team to victory and get to the second round! I even managed to corner the golden child! But, I lost!!!"
Monoma takes a deep breath before chugging down his drink and slams down the cup, his eyes narrowed in anger.
"I….I can't accept this…." Monoma says shakily. "I can't accept this farce! There must be some explanations! I-!" Monoma froze before looking at Takechi's group hanging out with most of Class 1-A's students.
"….of course…..of course, it's gotta be him…." The memory of Takechi brutally rips him into a new one with nothing but words still fresh in his mind. "He must've figured out what my plan is….and like a traitor he is….he told them everything….he ruined everything…he made me lost…..me and my teammates…."
He glares at Takechi with intense hatred, unable to control his feelings towards his former friend. He could never understand why the boy had switched sides and wondered what did Takechi see in class 1-A that he willingly befriended and hung out with them. Or perhaps it's because of Midoriya and his sweet-honeyed words that persuade his former friends to act this way, which made him pause as he hadn't considered such a possibility before.
In an instant, all of his anger towards his friend is now redirected towards Midoriya, a fellow hero student who has an overpowered quirk and the ability to secure allies with lies. He will do what it takes to stop him and make sure no more victims shall fall for his lies.
Meanwhile, the rest of Monoma's teammates look at Monoma concernedly. Ever since they all got disqualified in the second round, Monoma won't stop seething in anger, directing all of his rage towards Takechi for unknown reasons. All of them were concerned for their classmate and it didn't help that he's now redirecting it towards Midoriya.
The entire class 1-B agreed that Midoriya had done nothing wrong, and the spotlight given to their sister's class wasn't worth someone's life, which made them feel pity and concern more than jealousy. When they get to know Midoriya a bit, it doesn't make much sense why Monoma even hates him in the first place. He's socially awkward but he's not a jerk, he can be petty but it was harmless, he could use a better choice of words at some moments, but he's not tone-deaf or malicious, just unsure how to word it correctly. Those were Midoriya's flaws and none of them were bad enough to make someone hate him, so it doesn't make sense for Monoma to hate the guy.
All they can do is silently watch Monoma and act as if he's trying to do anything rash.
Also, speaking of Midoriya, where is he? Why is he not with his group of friends?
With Midoriya
"…." Izuku can't help but be slightly nervous, he knows he's being weird, but how can he not be when he was just strolling to look for food and then, his classmate who just declared war on him this morning found you and demand to talk to him alone. He had expected this given his pre-isekai life, but being the one who experienced it is another thing entirely.
Out of nervousness, he's been biting his takoyaki and okonomiyaki without stopping. It didn't help that all of his calories were spent from the constant use of OFA and Gearshift, especially Gearshift as manipulating the speed of air molecules' vibration and directing every molecule towards the direction you desire requires a lot of energy.
"…how did you do it?" Todoroki asks as Izuku raises his eyebrow. "How…are you able to be so powerful in such a short time? You said it yourself, you got your quirk not long before the entrance exam and yet, you got first place in the exam. You're able to beat 17 other students who had their quirks for most of their lives, and let's not forget your feat in the USJ…."
'I wish you never brought up USJ…' Izuku can't help but frown when Todoroki brought it up. Most people may see it as a showcase of strength, but to Izuku, it's another one of his failures, the lack of foresight and preparation, while also almost abandoning everyone.
"…how are you able to grow so much in such a short amount of time…" Todoroki asks as he narrows his eyes.
'This conversation is much different from the canon timeline,' Izuku thought. 'Todoroki explained his oath of not using his fire, showing how he wishes to break free from Endeavor's shackles but subtly hints at the similarity of himself with his father, the desire to become the number one hero. Todoroki was at first ambitious as well, but using his flame by accident made him focus too much on his oath. But, since no one has forced him to break his oath, his desire to be number one is burning like a raging wildfire, a complete irony.' Before Izuku could answer Todoroki's supposed question after his self-thought, Shoto decided to continue.
"Is…it because you are All Might's secret love child?" Shoto asks blankly as Izuku's brain short-circuited. To be fair, Izuku didn't expect the conversation to lead to that question given how many changes have happened in this world. He had to ignore the roaring laughter at the back of his head while restarting his brain.
"No….my 'dad' is a deadbeat who cheats on my mom with his secretary because I was supposedly quirkless." Izuku says, a hint of anger in his voice as Shoto raises his eyebrow. "Trust me on this, All Might and I are not related. I mean, what do I have in common with the world's symbol of peace."
"…." Shoto simply gives him a blank look. "Even so, you seem to have some sort of connection with him. Meeting his former sensei and training under him, him wanting to talk alone with you….everything shows you and All Might had some sort of connection that can't be talked about."
"… Why do you care so much about me and All Might anyway?" Izuku can't help but ask. He does know the reason, but he can't admit it out loud, or else Shoto might get suspicious of him.
"…you know my father, Endeavor, right?" Izuku merely nods. "He's been the number 2 hero forever, and since you're connected to the number one hero, this means I have to win even more."
"… You give me an answer, but also give me another question," Izuku says in a deadpan manner.
"My father will do anything to advance his rank, no matter what he did or how much impact he caused in his hero career, it wasn't enough to surpass All Might, who he considered an immovable object. Knowing this, he devised a plan. You know about quirk marriage, right?" Shoto asks as Izuku feels the temperature around them drop significantly.
"….he seek for a partner who has a quirk perfect for enhancing their quirk to be inherited to their child, you…." Izuku says as Shoto nods.
"He wants to raise and use me for the sake of his thirst over his desire, all just to surpass All Might. Fuck that…" Shoto says while gritting his teeth. "….I will never become his tool. Never!" Shoto takes a deep breath before looking at Izuku. "….in my memories, my mother always crying, she said my left side is ugly and decided to dump boiling water on me. My reason for wanting to beat you, the current strongest student in this class, is for my personal triumph…I will beat you…no, I'll be the number one without relying on his fire…."
Izuku merely looks at the boy with sympathy. He knows everything about Shoto's dilemma and his ambition, but hearing it from him, the real him, only gives him a heartache.
"Sorry, I took your time and dragged you away from your friends," Shoto says sincerely before walking away.
"…if what you said about your father is true, then it doesn't matter if you use your left side or not, you still achieve what he wants." Izuku decided to speak up, getting Shoto's attention. "And in the end, you're unconsciously acting as his tool, just like he wants."
"What!?" Shoto, for the first time, snapped and looked at Izuku with a burning glare, but Izuku didn't cower.
"You're walking at the path he set for you, even if you didn't know about it," Izuku says as Shoto clenches his fist in anger. "If you want to refuse your father, refusing to use your fire isn't the right way. Be a hero of your own, or maybe, don't be one at all, because clearly, the heroic isn't a place for your ambition to reach the top."
"I refuse to use his fire." Shoto snarls as he glares at Izuku, who doesn't seem to be affected. In response, he pulls out a dorayaki and gives it to Shoto, confusing the boy. "..what?"
"It's a gift, and it's a courtesy for someone not to refuse a gift," Izuku says as Shoto hesitantly takes it. "Good, now it's yours."
"….I don't get it. What is the point of giving me this?" Shoto asks.
"….*sigh* I was hoping you would understand. Your father may give you the power to wield the flame, but like that gift, that power is yours. It's not his fire, it's yours." Izuku says before munching his food as Shoto looks unsure of this. "I mean, your fire comes out of your own body and Endeavor can't control the flames that aren't his, including yours."
"…." Shoto had never felt so conflicted before. He had no idea how to respond to this while looking at the dorayaki in his hand. "I…."
"Just…think about what I said, okay?" Izuku says. "What you're doing is not healthy for your body and mind. Don't let your hatred of your dad make you harm yourself. I don't think your loved one wants that to happen to you." With that, Izuku walks back to the food stalls hoping he can buy more food as Shoto watches him from the distance before looking at the dorayaki.
"…..it's….warm," Shoto mutters before he tears the wrapping off and takes a bite. "…." Shoto looks back at Izuku and sees him buying more food, making him raise his eyebrow. How much food is he gonna buy?
Later
"Where have you been!?" Ochako exclaims as she presses his finger on Izuku's chest. She and the rest of the (unofficial) Izu-squad had been looking for Izuku around the stadium and hadn't eaten their food, concerned over their friend.
"Sorry, Todoroki wished to talk to me. It's…a personal stuff for him." Izuku says while rubbing the back of his head.
"… That bag of snacks says otherwise, ribbit." Tsuyu deadpanned.
"W-well, I need as many calories as possible. The second round burns every drop of energy in me." Izuku says before pulling out a mochi and eating it, not noticing Ochako staring intensely at him.
"So, like me, huh?" Yaomomo muses before looking at the elegant-looking stacks of bento boxes and sweatdrops. "Although, this is a bit much…."
"Your butlers made all of this for you?" Kaminari asks curiously. Yaomomo checks at the stacks before tossing away some of the bento boxes right at the trash can, shocking others.
"Y-Yaoyorozu-san! Why would you toss some of the bento boxes that have been made by your butlers and maids with utmost care and effort!?" Iida exclaims, horrified at her actions.
"Sorry, but those bentos were made by Rina," Izuku can't help but choke when he hears this. "I love my maids and butler equally, but Rina's cooking is…..not safe for work. Trust me, she almost killed Lycaon with the smell alone."
"…." Everyone is unsure how to react to that while Izuku merely sips his banana milk while sweatdropping.
'I suppose some shout-outs are bound to happen. She may not be the same Rina from the game, but she does have lethal cooking skills,' Yoichi comments with a sweatdrop.
'…yeah, I have zero idea what you're saying.' Banjo deadpanned.
"…a-anyways, congratulations for all of you guys getting to the final round," Tooru states before pouting. "Although, I wish I could get into the final as well."
"Inevitably, some of us won't make it through, kero," Tsuyu says while eating her fried cricket. "It's how life is,"
"Speaking of finals, what do you guys think it might be?" Miles decided to ask as he ate his berries.
"It's possibly a one-on-one battle," Izuku says as he eats his dango. "It's been like that for every Sports Festival that ever held."
"Yeah, but as Present Mic had claimed before, this year we had 25 competitors, so it might be different," Yaomomo stated.
"…if they decided to stick with the battle tournament, then it's possible that there would be matches where three fighters fight against each other or a student gets a free pass to the next round," Izuku says while finishing his box of Karaage before noticing everyone is staring at him. "….what?"
"…how are you eating so much?" Takechi asks.
"And how are you not fat!?" Awase asks.
"My quirk burns down fat and calories fast, so I need a lot of food to sustain myself." Izuku shrugs before suddenly, Ochako grabs his shirt and lifts it, startling everyone as Izuku is completely caught off guard, and his face turns scarlet. Everyone had different reactions, Eijirou looked away as his face turned red, Ochako drooled at the sight, Yaomomo covered her eyes with her hands while sneakily taking a peek, Tsuyu merely croaked loudly, Kaminari felt his brain short-circuit, Iida's jaw dropped, Tooru wolf-whistled, Koda gapes like a fish, Miles looks confused at everyone's reactions, Takechi facepalmed, Sen and Awase bit their lips in envy, Tetsutetsu yells 'manly' at the top of his lungs, and Hanzo deadpan-stares at everyone. Izuku covers his shirt before looking at Ochako incredulously, blush still visible on his face.
"Ocha, what the fuck!?" Izuku exclaims and immediately, Ochako's face turns scarlet and starts to apologize. Before anyone can do anything, the sound of a bell ringing loudly can be heard through the speaker.
"All right, the short break is over! Now, would every contestant that made it to the final round please gather at the stadium arena!?" Everyone got up and walked towards the arena as they all wondered what comes next.
To be continued
