The Next Day,
TMPD Headquarters,
"I can't believe what happened to Ran and Makoto...", Takagi mumbled sadly.
"I can't believe the tv stations allowed this to air... have they got no sense?", Shiratori mumbled angrily.
"In their point of view, if it brings views, it's good.", Chiba said sadly.
Sato then noticed Megure's silence and how he was staring ahead, apparently thinking about something.
"Something wrong, Keibu?", Sato asked.
"Nothing. This case means Mouri and Kyogoku will have to work together and... I'm worried about that.", Megure sighed.
"Makoto's father? I did here he is a cop here but... we never saw him or met him, did we?", Takagi recalled.
"Because he's not a teamwork guy. He and Mouri often worked together and would end up arguing about how to handle the case. Mouri would approach things with critical thinking, a good cop in short until the situation requires a bad cop. Kyogoku on the other hand... always used the bad cop method.", Megure explained, "Everyone is surprised that he was the one who remained in the force while Kogoro left.".
"I'm more surprised about Mouri-san being the calm one of the two, and Kyogoku being worse... I don't think I'd like to meet that guy.", Chiba mumbled.
"Well, his son's disappearance had him silent when I went to talk to him and Mouri with their families.", Shiratori recalled.
"For now, he's holding his anger to try to think straight, I suppose.", Megure said before he rubbed the back of his head, "I hope the team we send would be able to find something in the remains of the building.".
"They will find something. My gut tells me they will, and it won't be something good...", Sato mumbled.
Meanwhile,
"Never did I ever think I would end up in such situation...", Makoto mumbled.
"Tell me about it...", Ran replied in the same tone.
She and Makoto were sitting across from each other on a silver lunch table, a table with two benches on each side for people to sit on. The room they were in was no different than a prison lunchroom with several tables as theirs placed, and the other 62 contestants were sitting at them, eating their dinner.
Makoto and Ran, after their supposed win, were led, blindfolded, by the same men into this room, and placed across them were trays of food, but none of them touched it. How could they possibly eat when they had just witnessed the death of their opponent, and they did not die instantly, they screamed and spasmed around as they were electrocuted to death.
The echoes of their opponents' pain have not left their minds, and they knew it won't leave anytime soon.
"How did we end up here? I still can't believe how they easily took us down, we're talking about 128 people were there?", Makoto broke the silence.
Ran picked up her fork and played with the food across her, eyeing it in disgust as she felt nauseous after what she had just witnessed.
"It was planned perfectly... They must've been planning it for years...", Ran mumbled before she shivered, covering her face with the other hand, tears threatening to fall, "But what they had done to the other 62 contestants... and only brought those two we faced so we can have an introductory match...".
"Don't remind me...", Makoto gulped, feeling the bile rising up his throat once he recalled what happened today this morning.
"Ran-san!", Makoto greeted Ran once he saw her arriving at the front door of the building.
He walked up to her as she waved back at him with a wide smile, "Makoto-san, hey! I knew I'd see you here.".
"I'm not surprised to see you here either!", Makoto nodded with a wide smile before he motioned his head towards the building, "Let's get going, shall we?".
Ran nodded before she and Makoto walked towards the building. To say the building was packed was an understatement, for despite the building being enormous, Ran and Makoto could not see an empty space.
"The letter said there will be 128 contestants in total... Are those all of them?", Makoto asked curiously.
"I counted them quickly, they're 66.", Ran said as she and Makoto stood in line, behind the fighters waiting to register.
Ran looked around at the building curiously and noticed one of the security men pulling out their walker-talkie, saying something, and she noticed the other security men stiffening in their position, as if something was about to happen.
"Registration is over.", The man sitting at the white table, responsible for registration said, as he nodded at the six guards standing next to him, three on each side.
Suddenly, gas was fired from the roof, consuming the room slowly, while the security guards and the man wore face masks for the gas, and some pulled out guns while others pulled out rifles.
The fighters started to panic while Ran and Makoto turned to the building's door, but they saw the door was closed, and security guards surrounding them.
"Remember, any two, plus Kyogoku and Mouri. Other than that, kill them all.", The man said.
Makoto and Ran were surprised by six men surrounding them before four slammed the back of their guns onto the necks of Ran and Makoto, before two held them each from their arms, as they felt dizzy, not just from the harsh hits, but from the gas.
Makoto and Ran still were capable of seeing what was happening.
They saw two men being knocked out in the same manner and being dragged by them.
The other men readied their guns and started firing.
The bullets emptied into the bodies of the remaining fighters, and some of the fighters had their skulls explode, the remains of their brains falling onto the ground.
Others had their arms torn off before the bullets pierced their chests and necks, the others had their limbs completely torn off from their bodies from the bullets.
Blood and body remains spilled on the ground, the white floor and walls now completely red.
Ran and Makoto's eyes widened in horror as they watched the scene helplessly, unable to move from the effect of the gas.
The man approached them, and now they started seeing him as a moving white blur as he said, his voice echoing in their ears.
"I hope you've had fun in your lives... For you'll live your last days in hell.", The man smirked.
And they fainted.
Makoto and Ran woke up, but in separate cells that represented prison cells, placed on the bed of each cell. They sat up quickly on their beds, looking around worriedly, trying to know what was happening.
All they got was that they had a bed with a table, and small bathroom, and on the table was placed white karate gi.
"WELCOME! EVERYONE!".
Both rushed and walked onto the the prison hologram door, and when they touched if, they were electrocuted.
Both backed away and that's when they noticed the weight of something on their neck. They touched their neck and felt a large metallic choker around their neck.
They then looked upwards across the door, and that's when they noticed each other, a few meters between their cells, which was the pathway for people to walk.
Their eyes widened at each other before they looked up and around, and noticed that their were other cells above and next to them.
"WELCOME TO THE BLOODSPORT! MY DEAR CONTESTANTS, YOU'RE ABOUT TO BE POPULAR!", the same male voice cried again.
The fighters present were all standing worriedly, looking around, trying to find the source of the voice.
"Now, I suggest you all wear the fighting clothes we provided to you, and also not tell us no or else...", The man trailed off.
Suddenly, the chokers around their necks started electrocuting them for a minute, and everyone let out a cry of pain before the electrocuting stopped.
"Now, be good, wear your clothes, and the ones who will see a red light in their rooms, prepare.", The male voice said.
All fighters did as ordered, not wanting to be electrocuted.
A few minutes later, two security guards, holding rifles, arrived across the cells of Makoto and Ran. The doors disappeared and one guard walked towards them, placing a blindfold around their eyes, before both led them outside the room.
"And after the fight, they blindfolded us and led us here, the lunchroom, where everyone was starting to eat.", Makoto mumbled.
Ran, once she recalled the sight of the dead bodies, spotted the bin below the lunch tables grabbed it, and vomited in it, her stomach hurting her from the nausea.
"Our dear contestants,", The male voice started again.
Ran spat in the bin while Makoto slammed his fist onto the table in anger.
Ran placed the bin back under the table as the male voice spoke up again, "We've got 30 minutes left and dinner will be over. Then my gentlemen will take you back to your cells so you could sleep.".
"You all have got a week to train and practice for your upcoming matches, so take care of your health, and train well! We've gotta keep our viewers entertained, the online and tv ones!", The male voice said.
"I wanna break that man apart.", Makoto growled in anger.
"Tell me about it...", Ran mumbled weakly, feeling tears threatening to fall from her eyes but she shook her head.
Now is not the time to cry.
"They... they'll save us...", Ran mumbled, catching Makoto's interest, "Otousan... Okaasan... Sonoko... Sera-chan... Hattori-kun... and Shinichi...".
"I hope you're right. It seems impossible for us to get out.", Makoto mumbled.
Ran looked up at the roof, the image of Conan forming in front of her face, before it slowly changed to Shinichi's face.
'Conan-kun... Or why should I go with this since I might die anyway...? Shinichi... I know you'll save me...', She thought with a solemn smile.
'I trust you with my life... To the death...'.
