Chapter 12

The dwarves from the spit were freed as Gandalf walked towards one of the troll statues and thumped it well with his staff, pleased with the work that he had done.

Thorin came over to Gandalf wondering where he had gone. "Where did you go to, if I may ask?"

"To look ahead," Gandalf told Thorin.

"What brought you back?"

"Looking behind. Nasty business. Still, they are all in one piece."

"No, thanks to your burglar."

"He had the nous to play for time. None of the rest of you thought of that. And not only that Tony was able to free you while Bilbo was buying time."

Thorin looked over at Tony seeing that she was still rather pale-faced from saving them from their binds. He had to admit that he was rather thankful to know that she defied him in coming to find them. But in a way, he was also angry because she didn't know any weapons other than an old bow and arrow. He then turned his attention to the troll statues.

"They must have come down from the Ettenmoors."

"Since when do mountain trolls venture this far south?"

"Oh, not for an age, not since a darker power ruled these lands." Gandalf looked at Thorin with a knowing look. "They could not have moved in daylight."

"There must be a cave nearby."

They began to walk the path to see if they could find the cave that was nearby that the trolls could've stayed in.

Tony stuck her hands in her pockets biting her lower lip as they looked. She knew that she was probably going to get yelled at for not staying behind at their campsite, but she knew that she did the right thing to help them out. She noticed a large cave shadowed by the trees. "Um… hey… I think I found the… whew…" She said covering her mouth and nose.

"Oh, what's that stench?!" Nori questioned.

"It's a troll hoard. Be careful what you touch." Gandalf told them knowing that the dwarves weren't ones to keep their hands to themselves.

Tony slowly entered the cave covering her nose. Her eyes watered at the scent that left the cave. How could anyone live in such a place? She went towards the back of the cave where Thorin was.

"It was reckless with what you did." He told her looking over at her out of the corner of his eyes.

"You would be worse off if I hadn't come." She pointed out as he found three swords covered in cobwebs.

Gandalf approached them seeing the swords that Thorin now held in his large hands. "These swords were not made by any troll."

Thorin handed one of the swords over to Gandalf and the other to Tony while keeping the other.

"Nor were they made by any smith among men." Gandalf pulled out the sword out of its sheath just a few inches to look at it.

Tony looked at the metal in awe. She never really had been up close to a real sword. What she knew in her time of the ones that cosplayers carried around were good in what they replicated, but this was just a whole new thing to her. They were beautiful swords, whoever had them before this took great care of them before they were hoarded away in a troll hoard.

"These were forged in Gondolin by the High Elves of the First Age."

Thorin slowly began to lower his sword he held in his hand to put it back in disgust. He couldn't hold the enemy's sword. It went against the code that he branded himself with a long time ago when the mountain fell to Smaug.

Gandalf gave him a look. "You could not wish for a finer blade."

Thorin reluctantly kept the sword before drawing it out just a few inches to look at it.

Tony slowly looked at her sword which was in between the two in size. She ran her finger lightly over the cool metal on the smoothest part being careful to not get cut by such a fine blade. "What would these be doing so far away from Gondolin?" She asked, looking up at him.

"For that, I do not know Tonya."

Tony took a breath knowing that there could be more of a story to Glamdring and Orcist, but this sword she held she had no idea that it even had a name for itself. If it didn't she would gladly give it its name when the time came. But she had to learn how to use it. "I suppose this means I have to learn how to use this properly."

"And you should," Gandalf said looking at her. "We can't leave a fair maiden with only one talent with a bow and arrow. Swordplay shall also be a good skill for you to learn."

"I wouldn't have the time to learn if we were to face danger every step we take."

"You are more than welcome to go home." Thorin pointed out looking at her.

Tony narrowed her eyes at Thorin. "And what home would that be? I have no home, Thorin." She said with a shake of her head moving out of the hoard to get away from the stubborn dwarf that had told her to go home when she had no place to go to.

"We're makin' a long-term deposit," Gloin said proudly as they buried the gold that they had gathered into a hole.

Thorin looked at his crew. "Let's get out of this foul place. Come on, let's go. Bofur! Gloin! Nori!"

Tony rolled her eyes as she continued to forward a little more looking around. She put her sword on the area of her belt where her sword was supposed to go.

Rustling could be heard from the bushes.

"Something's coming!" Thorin shouted.

"Stay together! Hurry now. Arm yourselves."

Tony followed the others into the woods, her hand on her sword even though she didn't know how to use her weapon just yet. "I only hope I don't have to use this." She thought to herself.
