Kanto Gets Loud: Research Fellow Quest
Chapter 1: Beginning Assignments
After bidding bon voyage to Lincoln and company, the gang from Royal Woods were now making their way back up to Cerise Labs, "Ok, so now that we're trainers, what should we do?" Rusty asked.
"Well, being Research Fellows, the Professor will no doubt send us out to study Pokemon," Clyde replied.
"We didn't get to see much in the forest yesterday, so hopefully today will be more fulfilling," Zach added.
"Only one way to find out," Bobby replied, as they continued making their way back to the lab.
Back at Cerise Lab,
The group entered the main building and were heading into the main room when they heard some people talking, "So, it's really alright for us to just take one?" a boy's voice asked.
"Indeed. My fellow researchers asked me to distribute these Pokemon to any new trainers that want to start out on a journey," they heard Professor Cerise reply. Slowly, Leni opened the door, and they saw Professor Cerise, along with his two aides, Ren and Chrysa, who were talking to Goh and Sid. Ren was a lanky young man with messy blonde hair. He wore red glasses, a yellow shirt with a Magnemite on it, and red shorts, as well as a lab coat. Chrysa was a beautiful young woman with well-kept blue hair. She wore a green, button-up shirt, and a black skirt.
"Alright! At least this way, it can make our goals a little easier to achieve, Goh," Sid commented.
"As much as I wanted Mew to be my first Pokemon, you do raise a good point, Sid," Goh replied.
"Professor? We're back," Ronnie Anne said, as the Royal Woods gang piled in.
"Ah, good! How did things go with seeing off your friend?" Professor Cerise asked.
"Yep. Lincoln and the others have set out on their cruise safe and sound," Leni replied.
"Well, that's good to hear. Let me introduce you all to Sid Chang and Goh. They live here in Vermillion City. Goh, Sid, these fine folks are friends of Lincoln Loud," Professor Cerise said.
"That white haired trainer that's been making a name for himself over the past few weeks here in Kanto?" Goh asked.
"Correct. They just started out as Trainers yesterday and are going to be joining the lab as Research Fellows, just like the two of you," Professor Cerise replied.
"Nice to meet all of you!" Sid exclaimed on behalf of herself and Goh.
"Nice to meet the two of you as well. So, is what we heard true? That you're going to start your training journeys today?" Ronnie Anne asked.
"That's right. All for the sake of achieving our goals," Goh replied.
"Your goals?" Tabby asked.
"That's right! I plan on catching Mew, and to do that, I'm going to try and catch one of EVERY kind of Pokemon in the world!" Goh replied.
"My goal is just as ambitious as Goh's. I want to try and catch my own Mythical Pokemon, namely Arceus!" Sid declared.
"Wait, what are 'Mythical Pokemon'?" Carlota asked.
"They're Pokemon so rare that many people don't believe they actually exist, but are talked about in folktales around the world. For example, Mew is considered to be the ancestor of ALL Pokemon since it has the genetic codes of EVERY Pokemon in the world and can use any move. Arceus, on the other, is said to have created the Universe before it had hatched from its own Egg," Professor Cerise explained.
"Whoa, that's pretty heavy stuff. But that has me wondering; If Mew is the ancestor of all Pokemon, then does that include this Arceus Pokemon as well?" Margo asked.
"That is the greatest mystery of them all, which is why facilities, such as this one, exist. So that we can uncover the secrets of the world of Pokemon," Professor Cerise replied.
"And you can bet that we'll be there to help discover those secrets as well!" Goh added.
"But before you can go discovering the secrets of the Pokemon World, you'll need your own Pokemon," Professor Cerise replied.
"I know, Professor. But I've already decided on what Pokemon I want," Goh replied, approaching Scorbunny, "Scorbunny, do you want to help me take hold of the future?" Scorbunny chittered happily, "Great! Then I choose Scorbunny!" Goh declared.
"An excellent choice. And as for you, Sid, what Pokemon would you like?" Professor Cerise asked.
"For me, I think I'm going to go with Sprigatito!" Sid replied, kneeling down to look at the Grass Cat Pokemon, "Let's work hard, Sprigatito."
"Excellent! Now, I have a few more things to give you both. First of which being Scorbunny and Sprigatito's Pokeballs," Professor Cerise said, handing both of them a Pokeball, "Next, a Pokedex. These will give you all kinds of information on the Pokemon you'll encounter during your travels, as well as keep track of Pokemon you've previously caught as well," he then handed both of them a Pokedex.
"Awesome!" Goh commented.
"Next order of business is the first set of field research I want you all to partake in. From here, there are four different areas you can explore to encounter and catch some Pokemon. We have the forest, the open field on Routes 6 or 11, Diglett Cave, and the wharf here in Vermillion City. For your first tasks as Trainers, I want each of you to go out and catch at least one Pokemon!" Professor Cerise proclaimed.
"Catch a Pokemon? Aw man, I've been looking forward to this!" Rusty commented, pumping his fist.
"The only question now is which area do we go to?" Giggles asked.
"Well, we can always split up into groups," Polly pointed out.
"Excellent idea! One group can head to the forest, the other to either Route 6 or Route 11, and another to the Diglett Cave. I plan on checking out the wharf," Goh replied.
"Well, then let's group up, and head out," Bobby said. His group consisted of Ronnie Anne, Liam, Girl Jordan and Clyde. Carlota was leading a group consisting of Rusty, Giggles, Zach and Margo. Finally, Leni was leading Haiku, Polly, Stella and Tabby.
"Alright, now that everyone's pair up, let's all decide where to go," Carlota commented.
"We can head to one of the fields," Leni said.
"I'll take my group to the forest," Bobby added.
"Which leaves me to take my guys to the cave," Carlota commented.
"Well, looks like we're all decided. Now let's get going!" Ronnie Anne declared.
"I get that you're excited, Nie-Nie, but we shouldn't jump the gun. After all, there might be more that we'll need to do before hand," Bobby advised.
"Not to worry, Bobby. You all have everything you need to catch a Pokemon, including empty Pokeballs," Professor Cerise replied.
"Remember, you can only have six Pokemon on hand at a time. Any more you catch will be transported to a Storage Box. We'll talk more about that when you have caught six Pokemon," Ren added.
"Ok, so now that we have everything we need, we can get started," Rusty commented, as they all left.
Later, at the field on Route 11,
Leni and the girls had just arrived at field, where they saw all kinds of Pokemon running around, "Ok, now that we're here, what do we do now?" Polly asked.
"From what Lincoln told us in his calls home to us, the best way to catch a Pokemon is to battle it so that it won't be able to break free from the Pokeball once it's inside," Leni replied.
"Well, that sounds easy enough," Tabby replied, as she got out her Pokeball, "Go, Chikorita!" she said, sending out her Pokemon, "Let's try to find a Pokemon," she said, before remembering something, "But first, let's see what moves you can use," she said, pointing her Pokedex at her partner Pokemon
"Chikorita, the Leaf Pokemon, a Grass Type. It uses the leaf on its head to check the atmosphere's density and humidity. It loves to sunbathe. This Male Chikorita is Level 5, and knows the moves Tackle, Growl, and the Egg Moves Vine Whip, Body Slam, and Ingrain," Tabby's Pokedex explained.
Chikorita then saw a potential target. It appeared to be a yellow, bipedal Pokemon with brown legs and a nose like an elephant or an anteater, "Who's that one?" Tabby then pointed her Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Drowzee, the Hypnosis Pokemon, a Psychic Type. It can tell what people are dreaming by sniffing with its big nose. It loves fun dreams. This Male Drowzee is Level 8, and knows the moves Pound, Hypnosis, and Disable," her Pokedex explained.
"A little stronger than Chikorita, but it should suffice. Alright Chikortia, lets jam!" Tabby proclaimed, as Chikorita dashed forth, ready to face down Drowzee. Drowzee then appeared to charge at Chikorita, with its fist raised, "Dodge it!" Tabby exclaimed. Chikorita jumped out of the way, bouncing off of Drowzee's head, "Alright, now for one of your moves," Tabby then consulted her Pokedex, "Tackle it!" Chikorita then rammed into Drowzee, "Alright, now, let's do it again!" Chikorita then Tackled Drowzee again.
"It should be weakened by now, Tabby! Better get a Pokeball ready!" Stella advised.
"Got it!" Tabby then readied her Pokeball, "Alright, time for my first catch! Now, go!" Tabby then chucked the Pokeball at Drowzee, sucking in the Hypnosis Pokemon. The Pokeball rocked once, twice, three times before finally snapping shut.
"Drowzee has been registered to your Pokedex," Tabby's Pokedex stated.
"Alright! My first catch!" Tabby exclaimed. Chikorita then rolled the Pokeball over to Tabby, "Thanks mate," she said, picking up the ball.
"Ok, so that's one new Pokemon for you, Tabby. The rest of us should look around ourselves," Stella said, as she and the other girls split up, while also staying in eyesight of Leni.
"I wonder what kind of Pokemon I should try catching?" Leni wondered. She then saw a Magnemite floating by, "Maybe that one?" Leni then pointed her Pokedex at the Magnemite.
"Magnemite, the Magnet Pokemon, an Electric and Steel Type. The units on its sides generate electromagnetic waves that keep it airborne. It feeds on electricity. This Magnemite is Level 10, and knows the moves Thunder Shock, Tackle, Thunder Wave, and Supersonic," Leni's Pokedex explained.
"Ok, based on what Lincoln told me, and what I learned from the study guides, Steel Type Pokemon are weak to Fire, which is good since I have Cyndaquil," Leni said, as she sent out Cyndaquil, "Now, what moves can you use again?" Leni wondered.
"Cyndaquil, the Fire Mouse Pokemon, a Fire Type. It has a timid nature. If its startled, the flames on its back burn more vigorously. Cyndaquil's Moves are Tackle, Growl, and the Egg Moves, Double Kick and Flame Burst," Leni's Pokedex explained.
"Ok, so I also have access to a Fighting Type move too. Ok Cyndaquil, I need you to use Double Kick on that Magnemite over there," Leni said. Cyndaquil complied, and charged at Magnemite, leaping up, and delivering two powerful kicks, sending the Magnet Pokemon to the ground. Although the attack did daze Magnemite, it was able to recover quickly, and fired off Thunder Shock, which blasted Cyndaquil, "Oh no, Cyndaquil!" Leni cried. But Cyndaquil remained standing, "Ok, now try Flame Burst!" Cyndaquil then fired off a single bullet of fire, which, upon making contact with Magnemite, burst apart. Magnemite was now struggling to keep floating, "Now, to make my catch!" Leni then threw her Pokeball at Magnemite, sucking in the Magnet Pokemon. The ball rocked once, twice, and three times before it snapped shut, "Yay! My first catch!" Leni exclaimed happily, as she retrieved her Pokeball. However, no sooner than she did, she and the other girls felt a chill in the air.
"Brr, I thought it was warm outside," Polly shivered.
"We did, too," Haiku replied, though to be honest, she didn't seem to be too bothered by the cold. But then, she saw something that sent a chill down even her spine, "Uh, guys?" she said, pointing shakily to the sky.
"What's wrong, Haiku?" Stella asked, as she and the others turned to where she was looking, and were in complete awe at what they were seeing. It appeared to be a trio of huge bird Pokemon. The first, was a blue bird Pokemon with a long, wavy tail. The second was a spikey, yellow Bird Pokemon. The third looked like a yellow bird, but it had flames on its wings and on the plumage on its head. They were all looking down at the girls, as if, sizing them up.
"What are those?" Polly questioned, pointing her Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Articuno, the Freeze Pokemon, an Ice and Flying Type. Articuno is a Legendary Pokemon that can control ice. The flapping of its wings chills the air. As a result, it is said that when this Pokemon flies, snow will fall. This Articuno is Level 75, and knows the moves Ice Beam, Sheer Cold, Mist, Blizzard, and Roost.
Zapdos, the Electric Pokemon, an Electric and Flying Type. Zapdos is a Legendary Pokemon that has the ability to control electricity. It usually lives in thunderclouds. The Pokemon gains power if it is stricken by lightning bolts. This Zapdos is Level 75, and knows the moves Drill Peck, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Light Screen, and Discharge.
Moltres, the Flame Pokemon, a Fire and Flying Type. Moltres is a Legendary Pokemon that has the ability to control fire. If this Pokemon is injured, it is said to dip its body in the molten magma of a volcano to burn and heal itself. This Moltres is Level 75, and knows the moves Burn Up, Sunny Day, Flamethrower, Sky Attack, and Fire Blast," Polly's Pokedex explained.
"Didn't Lincoln say he encountered a Legendary Pokemon the day before he set out on his journey?" Stella asked.
"He did, and it gave him that Rainbow Wing. But what could these three want of us?" Leni wondered. All three of them then flew off.
"Well, that was… anticlimactic, to say the least," Haiku commented, just as she then saw something falling from the sky. A lot of somethings. The girls all went to catch one of them. They appeared to be feathers of some kind. Tabby and Haiku received a blue feather that was cold to touch. Stella and Polly each got a yellow feather that caused them to tingle from just the touch. Leni's feather was a yellow one with a reddish glow, giving it the appearance that it was on fire.
"What… are these?" Tabby wondered.
"Maybe the Professor knows something. We should ask him about them when we get back," Polly replied.
Meanwhile, in the Forest,
"Ok, since we're in the forest, we should be able to find some Grass or Bug Pokemon," Clyde commented.
"Ok, so let's fan out, but remember to stay in my line of sight," Bobby said, as they all dispersed. Girl Jordan and Clyde search in the trees, while Liam and Ronnie Anne were checking out the bushes. All the while, Bobby was looking around the area himself, "Ok, what Pokemon should I try catching first?" his answer soon came in the form of a large, fuzzy, purple bug Pokemon with big red eyes, "That one looks good," he commented, as he scanned it.
"Venonat, the Insect Pokemon, a Bug and Poison Type. Its large eyes are really clusters of really small eyes. At night, it is drawn in by light. This Male Venonat is Level 9, and knows the moves Tackle, Disable, Supersonic, and the Egg Move Toxic Spikes," Bobby's Pokedex explained.
"Ok, it's a little stronger than Fuecoco, but it'll do for a first catch. Now, Fuecoco, you're up!" Bobby said, as he sent out his partner, "Now, let's see about you," he then scanned Fuecoco.
"Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokemon, a Fire Type. It lies on warm rocks and uses the square shaped scale to absorb heat. It then uses this energy to create fire. This Male Fuecoco is level 5, and knows the moves Tackle, Leer, and Ember," the Pokedex explained.
"Ok, in that case, we should try to keep our distance. Fuecoco, use Ember!" Bobby called out. Fuecoco fired off Ember, which was able to damage Venonat quite a bit. Venonat retaliated by tackling Fuecoco, "You can take that! Use Ember, once more!" Fuecoco then fired off Ember again, striking Venonat again. Venonat's eyes then glowed blue, as did Fuecoco.
"Fuecoco's Ember has been Disabled. It will be unable to use Ember for a while," the Pokedex explained.
"That's what Disable does?! Well, no matter. It should be weak enough for me to catch it now," Bobby said, as he tossed a Pokeball. It rocked three times before finally clicking shut.
"Venonat has been registered to your Pokedex," Bobby's Pokedex chimed.
"Sweet! My first catch!" Bobby said, kneeling down to eye level with Fuecoco, "Nicely done, mi amigo."
Nearby, Ronnie Anne had seen the whole thing, "Not too shabby, Bobby. But I can't let you have all the fun," she commented, as she looked around, "Wonder what Pokemon I can find?" she wondered, as she saw Liam battling it out with an Ekans.
"Alrighty then, Tepig, use Tackle!" Liam said, as Tepig slammed into Ekans, sending it into a tree, "And now, go, Pokeball!" Liam said, as he chucked his Pokeball at Ekans, sucking it into the ball. The ball rocked only once before snapping shut.
"Ekans has been registered to your Pokedex," Liam's Pokedex explained.
"Alright! And mah first catch is a Poison Type!" he beamed.
"Nice one, Liam," Ronnie Anne praised.
"Thanks. But what about you? Haven't you found anything?" Liam asked.
"So far, no. But I'm hoping to find something soon," Ronnie Anne replied, just as, from the bushes, emerged a small, blue and black lion cub Pokemon with a star shaped tail, "Oh, it's so cute! What is it?" she then scanned the Pokemon.
"Shinx, the Flash Pokemon, an Electric Type. All of its fur dazzles when it senses danger. It flees while the opponent is blinded. This Female Shinx is Level 12, and knows the moves Tackle, Leer, Thundershock, Charge, Bite, and the Egg Move Howl," her Pokedex explained.
"An Electric Type, huh? Better watch out for that flashing fur. Alright, Eevee, you're up!" Ronnie Anne said, sending out Eevee, "Ok Eevee, let's start off by using Quick Attack!" Eevee then charged straight into Shinx at blinding speeds, sending the Flash Pokemon back a few feet. Shinx then started sparking, and glowing red, before firing off Thundershock, "Eevee, dodge it!" Ronnie Anne called out. Eevee did so, as Thundershock caused a small explosion in the ground where Eevee was standing, "Ok Eevee, now use Tackle!" Eevee then slammed into Shinx, sending it into a tree trunk, "Now's my chance!" Ronnie Anne said, as she threw her Pokeball at Shinx, sucking it in. The Pokeball began rocking. Upon the third shake, it snapped shut.
"Shinx has been registered to your Pokedex," Ronnie Anne's Pokedex said.
"Alright! Now I have my first Electric Type!" she exclaimed happily, retrieving her Pokeball.
"Guess we both have our first catches," Bobby said.
"You got your first catch too?" Ronnie Anne asked.
"Yep. A fuzzy bug Pokemon called 'Venonat'," Bobby replied.
"Wonder how Clyde and Girl Jordan are fairin'?" Liam wondered. The sound of battling was heard from nearby, "Looks like they've already found their Pokemon!"
"Let's go see!" Ronnie Anne suggested, as they went over to where the sound was coming from. Upon arriving, they saw Clyde and Girl Jordan engaged with their own separate battles. Clyde and Sobble were battling a round, brown owl Pokemon with big, red eyes and appeared to be standing on one leg. Girl Jordan and Fennekin were battling against what appeared to be a mix between a honey bee and a honeycomb. The bottom face of the Pokemon she was battling had a red mark on it as well.
"Who are those Pokemon?" Bobby wondered, as he and his sister scanned both of them.
"Hoothoot, the Owl Pokemon, a Normal and Flying Type. It cries out at the same time every day. A long time ago, people believed it to be a divine messenger sent to tell time. This male Hoothoot is level 7, and knows the moves Tackle, Growl, Foresight, Hypnosis, Peck, and the Egg Move Feather Dance," Ronnie Anne's Pokedex explained.
"Combee, the Tiny Bee Pokemon, a Bug and Flying Type. Three Pokemon come together as one. They busily collect sweet nectar for Vespequin. This Female Combee is Level 8, and knows the moves Sweet Scent, Gust, Struggle Bug, and Bug Bite," Bobby's Pokedex said.
"Alright Sobble, let's start off with Water Gun!" Clyde called out. Sobble fired off Water Gun, striking Hoothoot dead center. The Owl Pokemon retaliated by swooping down at Sobble, who turned invisible, "Whoa, Sobble just went invisible! I wonder if that's a characteristic of its?" he wondered, pulling out his Pokedex.
"Sobble, the Water Lizard Pokemon, a Water Type. When it gets wet, its skin changes color, and this camouflage makes it look like it's invisible. When Sobble cries, its tears pack the same punch as peeling 100 onions, so enemies won't be able to attack. This Male Sobble is Level 6, and knows the moves Pound, Growl, Water Gun, and the Egg Move Aqua Jet," Clyde's Pokedex explained.
"Ok, a fair set of moves from the looks of it. Alright Sobble, use Water Gun!" Clyde called out. Sobble, while still invisible, fired off Water Gun from a nearby spot, catching Hoothoot off guard.
"I should try to make use of Fennekin's Moves and characteristics myself. Let see," Girl Jordan said, as she pulled out her Pokedex.
"Fennekin, the Fox Pokemon, a Fire Type. Eating twigs gives Fennekin energy, and its roomy ears are meant to vent hot air over 390 degrees Fahrenheit. This Female Fennekin is Level 6, and knows the moves, Scratch, Tail Whip, Ember, and the Egg Moves Heat Wave and Hypnosis," her Pokedex explained.
"Ok, and since it looks like I'm up against a Bug Pokemon, Fire Type Moves are best suited, so Fennekin, use Ember!" Girl Jordan called out. Fennekin fired Ember at the opposing Combee, causing a great deal of damage. Combee retaliated by whipping up a powerful gust of wind, "Stay strong Fennekin! Use Hypnosis!" Fennekin then let off a mysterious psychic wave that seemed to cause Combee to start dozing off, "Alright, now's a good a time as any! Go, Pokeball!" she exclaimed, chucking her Pokeball at Combee, sucking it into the ball. The Pokeball began to rock back and forth. After the third rock, the ball snapped shut.
"Combee has been registered to your Pokedex," Girl Jordan's Pokedex said.
"Sweet, I got my first catch!" she exclaimed, retrieving the Pokeball.
"Hoothoot has been registered to your Pokedex," they heard Clyde's Pokedex say.
"And I got my first catch too!" he said, holding the Pokeball containing his new Pokemon, while Sobble sat perched on his shoulder, "And it's thanks to you we were able to make a new friend," he praised. Sobble smiled a bit upon hearing this.
"So, where should we go from here?" Ronnie Anne asked.
"I thought I saw a cliff with a great view not too far from here. Why don't we take some time to take in the view?" Girl Jordan suggested.
"Good call. We might even be able to spot where we can go next to look for more Pokemon," Ronnie Anne replied, as they made their way through the forest. Eventually, they arrived at a cliff, overlooking Vermillion City, "Whoa."
"Took the words right out of my mouth," Girl Jordan replied.
"And to think, Lincoln's been experiencing stuff like this since coming to Kanto," Clyde added.
"It's bound to make our time here and in other regions all the more memorable," Bobby replied, as a powerful gust of wind blew, and a large shadow raced across the five of them. Looking up, they were in awe upon seeing a large, silver dragon like Pokemon with hand like wings, looking down on them.
"Whoa, who's that Pokemon?" Ronnie Anne wondered, as she scanned it.
"Lugia, the Diving Pokemon, a Psychic and Flying Type. This Legendary Pokemon is said to live in a deep ocean trench. With a flap of its wings, it can create storms that last for 40 days. This Lugia is Leve 75, and knows the moves Aeroblast, Hydro Pump, Rain Dance, Whirlwind, Safeguard, Ancient Power, and Recover," her Pokedex explained.
"Did that just say '40-Day Storm'?!" Girl Jordan exclaimed.
"N-Now calm down, Jordan. Maybe if we don't do anything to antagonize it, maybe it'll go away," Bobby replied hopefully. But Lugia was still looking down on them. It then bellowed loudly, before flying off. Just then, five shining, silvery feathers floated down in front of each of them. Hesitantly, they each grasped them.
"What… are these?" Clyde wondered.
"I don't know, but they are kind of pretty," Girl Jordan replied.
"They must be something important. Maybe we should hang on to them?" Liam suggested.
"Sounds like a good idea," Bobby replied, as they returned to the forest.
Meanwhile, in the rocky hills near Vermillion City,
While Bobby and Leni were leading their own groups around the surrounding woodland area of Vermillion City, Carlota and her group were in the rocky hills, "Ok, so what Pokemon do you guys think we'll encounter here?" Rusty asked.
"Given how rough the terrain is here, we might run into Rock or Ground Types," Zach replied.
"Should we spread out and search?" Margo suggested.
"Sounds alright. Just remember to remain in my line of sight," Carlota reminded, as they all dispersed. Giggles went over to a cliffside with Carlota.
"Now, where can we find our first Pokemon?" the young clown girl questioned. Her answer soon came in the form of a Diglett, that popped its head out of the ground, "Ooh, who's that?" she wondered, scanning it with her Pokedex.
"Diglett, the Mole Pokemon, a Ground Type. If a Diglett digs through a field, it leaves the soil perfectly tilled and perfect for planting crops. This female Diglett is level 8, and knows the moves Sand Attack, Scratch, Astonish, and Growl," her Pokedex explained.
"That sounds like something Liam would want on his farm back home. I'll be sure to recommend it to him when I see him next. For now, Popplio!" Giggles said, sending out her Popplio, who barked and clapped upon materializing, "Now, lets see what moves you can use."
"Popplio, the Sea Lion Pokemon, a Water Type. If Popplio wishes to make larger balloons, it must be persistent. It takes daily practice for this Pokemon to develop its skill. This Female Popplio is level 5, and knows the moves Pound, Growl, Water Gun, and the Egg Move Aqua Ring."
"Ok, as I recall, Water Type moves are great against Ground Types, so Popplio, use Water Gun!" Giggles called out. Popplio barked as it fired Water Gun at Diglett, striking the Mole Pokemon. Diglett then retaliated by using Sand Attack, trying to obscure Popplio's vision, "Now that's a cheap trick! Popplio, use Water Gun again!" Popplio once again fired off Water Gun, leaving Diglett reeling, "Alright, time to make my move!" Giggles said, as she threw a Pokeball at Diglett, sucking in the Mole Pokemon. The ball began rocking once, twice, thrice before snapping shut.
"Diglett has been registered to your Pokedex," her Pokedex stated.
"Alright, my first catch!" Giggles exclaimed, as Popplio scooped up the Pokeball in a balloon, and brought it over to the clown girl, "Nicely done, Popplio!"
"Not bad. I just hope I can find a Pokemon of my own soon," Carlota commented. Just then, the two of them heard some explosions coming from nearby, "What was that?!"
"Don't know, but we should go check it out!" Giggles said, as the two made their way over to the source of the noise, where they saw Rusty and Zach battling it out with some wild Pokemon. Rusty and Chespin were battling a wild Geodude, while Zach and Torchic were up against a small, red humanoid Pokemon that looked like a lizard with a yellow flame pattern on its belly.
"Alright Chespin, use Vine Whip!" Rusty instructed. His Chespin then lashed out two long vines, striking several of the Geodude, leaving it exhausted.
"Torchic, use Peck!" Zach instructed. Torchic then charged right at the red Pokemon, pecking at it. It retaliated with an Ember attack, which Torchic was able to withstand, "Alright, lets use Scratch!" Torchic then clawed at the Pokemon with its talons, sending it down right next to the Geodude Rusty was battling.
"Alright, now's my chance!" Rusty said, as he threw a Pokeball at the downed Geodude.
"My chance too!" Zach said, as he threw a Pokeball of his own. However, both Pokeballs struck each other mid-throw, and landed on each other's Pokemon, sucking them in, "Wait, WHAT?!" Zach yelled, as the Pokeballs rocked once, twice, thrice before snapping shut.
"Magby has been registered to your Pokedex," Rusty's Pokedex stated.
"Geodude has been registered to your Pokedex," Zach's Pokedex stated.
"WHAT?! We caught each other's Pokemon?!" Rusty exclaimed, as he and Zach retrieved their Pokeballs.
"Well, it didn't go quite the way we were hoping for, but we at least got our first catches," Zach replied.
"Hey down there!" the two boys saw Carlota and Giggles waving to them, "That was some pretty fancy catching there," Giggles commented.
"So, what were the Pokemon you both caught anyhow?" Carlota asked.
"Let's see, I caught a Magby, while Zach here caught a Geodude," Rusty replied, as the two pulled up the respective Pokedex entries.
"Magby, the Live Coal Pokemon, a Fire Type, and the pre-evolved form of Magmar. Magma-like blood circulates through this Pokemon's body, raising it's body temperature as high as 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit," Rusty's Pokedex explained.
"Geodude, the Rock Pokemon, a Rock and Ground Type. At rest, it looks just like a regular rock. Carelessly stepping on it will make it swing its fists angrily," Zach's Pokedex explained.
"We caught the Pokemon the other guy was trying for, but this works out great," Zach commented.
"Well, it could be considered a good thing with how you both caught each other's intended target. As I recall from our studies, Grass Types like Chespin are weak against Fire Types, while at the same time, Rock and Ground Types have an advantage over a Fire Type like Torchic," Carlota commented.
"Yeah. Plus, we can use our catches to help catch other Pokemon that our starters are normally weak against," Rusty added.
"See? You're already seeing a bright side to this," Carlota commented.
"Well, we didn't say we were against it," Zach replied.
"Hoo doggy, this guy gave me some trouble, but it was worth it!" Margo commented, as she and her Chimchar walked back to the group.
"Oh, you managed to find one, too?" Carlota asked.
"That's right!" Margo replied, as she let out her newly caught Pokemon, which was a small, grey humanoid Pokemon with three beige growths on its head, "This little guy's name is Machop. According to the Pokedex, it has muscles that never tire, no matter how much exercise it goes through. It also loves helping out in construction as a means to train to get stronger," Margo explained.
"Sounds perfect for you," Zach commented.
"Now, I have to find a Pokemon of my own to catch," Carlota commented. And her prayers were answered in the form of a Sandshrew running across the area, "That one looks good!" she said, as she went to scan it.
"Sandshrew, the Mouse Pokemon, a Ground Type. It digs deep burrows to live in. When in danger, it rolls up into a ball to withstand damage. This male Sandshrew is level 10, and knows the moves Scratch, Defense Curl, Poison Sting, Sand Attack and Rollout," her Pokedex explained.
"I think Lincoln said he had caught one of those a while back," Zach commented.
"Well, now I'll catch one myself. Snivy, come out!" Carlota said, sending out her Snivy, "Alright, first, lets see what moves you can use."
"Snivy, the Grass Snake Pokemon, a Grass Type. Being exposed to sunlight makes its movements swifter. It uses vines more adeptly than its hands. This Female Snivy is Level 5, and knows the moves Tackle, Leer, and the Egg Moves Mirror Coat, Seed Bomb, Twister, and Aqua Tail," Carlota's Pokedex explained.
"Not a bad line up of moves! Alright Snivy, let's start off with Aqua Tail!" Carlota called out. Snivy's tail became enveloped in water, as it swung it at Sandshrew, who narrowly dodged it. Sandshrew then fired off some purple needles at Snivy, "Quick, dodge it!" Snivy was quick to evade, "Alright, now use Seed Bomb!" Snivy then fired off a large, seed like projectile at Sandshrew, sending it into a rock, "And now, for the catch!" she said, chucking a Pokeball at Sandshrew. The ball rocked once, twice, thrice before it finally snapped shut.
"Sandshrew has been registered to your Pokedex," her Pokedex stated.
"Alright, now I've got my first catch!" Carlota said, retrieving her Pokeball. Just then, the Pokemon went on guard, as if sensing something.
"Something wrong, Chespin?" Rusty asked, as they heard three sets of stomping were heard from a nearby cliff above their heads. Turning to the source, they saw three large, dog like Pokemon. The first was a blue Pokemon with a crystal shaped crest on its head, and a big, fluffy purple mane. The second was a brown Pokemon with a smokey grey mane. The third and last one was a yellow, saber-toothed Pokemon with a purple mane that curled at the end.
"Whoa, who are those Pokemon?!" Rusty questioned, as he, Giggles, and Zach scanned them.
"Suicune, the Aurora Pokemon, a Water Type. This Legendary Pokemon is said to personify the North Wind. It travels across the land, purifying polluted waters. This Suicune is Level 75, and knows the moves, Gust, Aurora Beam, Roar, Bubblebeam, Hydro Pump, Sheer Cold, Tailwind, Ice Fang, Ice Beam, Crunch, Extrasensory, Calm Mind, and Mirror Coat.
Raikou, the Thunder Pokemon, an Electric Type. This Legendary Pokemon from Johto Legends is said to have fallen with lightning. It can fire off bolts of lightning from the rain cloud on its back. This Raikou is Level 75, and knows the moves Leer, Charge, Extreme Speed, Calm Mind, Crunch, Roar, Thunder Fang, Howl, Extrasensory, Discharge, Reflect, Thunder, and Rain Dance.
Entei, the Volcano Pokemon, a Fire Type. This Legendary Pokemon is said to be born when a volcano erupts, and that its barking can cause eruptions. It sends up massive bursts of flames that completely consume everything that they touch. This Entei is Level 75, and knows the Moves Stomp, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Roar, Fire Fang, Smokescreen, Flame Wheel, Calm Mind, Scary Face, Crunch, Extrasensory, Lava Plume, Swagger, Extreme Speed, and Sunny Day," all three Pokedexes explained. The three Pokemon stared down at the group, as if judging them. They then leapt over their heads, before disappearing into the forest.
"Well, I'm glad they didn't attack," Margo commented, just as what appeared to be crystals came floating down before them. Each crystal were either red, blue or yellow. Rusty and Zach clutched the two red ones, Giggles and Margo took hold of the yellow crystals, leaving Carlota to take hold of the only blue crystal.
"What… are these?" Zach wondered, holding his crystal.
"I don't know, but they are pretty. I wonder if they came from those three Pokemon?" Carlota wondered.
"I don't know about that, but maybe we ought to get back to the lab. Maybe the professor can shed some light on these things," Rusty suggested.
"True, and each of us DID complete our objective to catch at least ONE Pokemon," Giggles replied.
Back at the Cerise Lab,
All four groups regrouped just outside of the lab, "Hey guys. You managed to catch your Pokemon?" Clyde asked.
"Yeah, we did! Though for Stella and myself, it took a bit longer than we expected," Polly replied, showing her Pokedex, which had an image of her Totodile, along with a Spearow. Stella showed that she had managed to catch a small, blue seahorse like Pokemon.
"Sweet! Then I guess we've all completed our first assignment!" Leni proclaimed.
"Lets go check in with the professor and go from there," Bobby suggested, as they entered the lab. They went into the main study room where the professor was reading some books, "Professor? We're back," he said, catching Professor Cerise's attention.
"Ah, good! So, how'd it all go?" Professor Cerise asked. One by one, each Research Fellow showed the Professor their Pokedex entries for their newly caught Pokemon, "Very well done!" he said, as he typed in a few keys on a keyboard. Each of the Pokedexes pinged, as they showed some sort of medal.
"What are these?" Polly asked.
"Those Research Medals will be distributed among each of you every time you complete some field research. Every set of ten Medals are treated as the same as a single Gym Badge, allowing you all to bond more easily with higher level Pokemon. I'll send you each a set of three different Field Research Tasks you'll do whenever you go out to do research. You'll receive a new set after you've completed the previous set," Professor Cerise explained, as he sent over a new set of Field Research Tasks to each Pokedex.
"'Catch a Rock Type Pokemon'? 'Take Photos of 3 Different Wild Water or Dragon Type Pokemon'? 'Catch 3 Normal Type Pokemon'?" Clyde asked, reading off his set of Tasks.
"These all sound pretty straightforward," Bobby commented.
"Well, once you get more experience, you'll receive progressively more challenging tasks," Chrysa replied.
"Yeah, it's always best to start off slow and easy before going full gun-ho," Ren added.
"You can choose to either head back out and do some of those tasks, OR you can rest for a bit here," Professor Cerise stated.
"I don't know about the rest of you, but I think I could go for another quick adventure," Ronnie Anne commented.
"We should try exploring Route 6!" Tabby proclaimed.
"Makes sense. That's the only route we haven't explored yet. Plus we can check out that Battle Chateau place Lincoln told us about," Zach replied.
"Sounds like a plan. We can train up our Pokemon more quickly there in between Research Assignments," Rusty added.
"Not to mention raking in some spending cash for our time in Kanto," Ronnie Anne added.
"Yeah, that would help out a lot with necessities during our stay," Bobby agreed.
"Oh, before we leave, Professor," Ronnie Anne said, fishing out the feather she got from Lugia, "What could you tell us about this?" Professor Cerise, as well as Ren, Chrysa, Goh and Sid were astounded to see the feather.
"My word, that looks like a Silver Wing!" Professor Cerise exclaimed.
"A 'Silver Wing'?" Bobby asked.
"They're also called 'Lugia Feathers'. Apparently, they have a powerful connection to the Legendary Pokemon, Lugia, said to be the 'Guardian of the Seas'," Sid replied.
"Whoa, you guys had an encounter with Legendary Pokemon too?" Tabby questioned, as she and her group pulled out the feathers they got from Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno, much to the shock of the Professor and the others.
"Us too," Rusty said, as he and his group showed the crystals they received from Entei, Raikou, and Suicune.
"Oh, come on! We never had any sort of encounter with those Legendary Pokemon!" Goh groaned.
"Now Goh, there's probably a reason the Legendary Pokemon showed themselves to these guys, much like how Ho-Oh showed itself to Lincoln and gave him a Rainbow Wing," Chrysa said, trying to get Goh to settle down.
"If you kids leave just one of each of those items with me, I'll do a full analysis on each of them while you're in Route 6," Professor Cerise offered.
"Really? You'd do that for us?" Girl Jordan asked.
"Of course. Uncovering the mysteries of the World of Pokemon is the reason this lab exists," Professor Cerise replied. With that, Ronnie Anne, Rusty, Haiku, Stella, Leni, Margo, and Carlota handed over the objects they received from the Legendary Pokemon.
"Alright, we'll be back a little later," Bobby said, as they all left the lab.
Later that evening,
It was late when the group from Royal Woods arrived back at the Lab, having spent most of the day doing what they could to accomplish some of the tasks they received from the lab. During their time on Route 6, they also went to the Battle Chateau and got signed up to being Noble Trainers, each of them getting the title of either Baron or Baroness. It was during this time that they also trained with their Pokemon, getting plenty of experience in battle.
"Ok, so we've got somewhere we can practice in between research expeditions. We should have no problem catching up with Lincoln," Ronnie Anne commented.
"Well, keep in mind that there's still a lot more experienced trainers out there who are even stronger than Lincoln is," Clyde reminded.
"We should just focus on making our teams stronger for when we go out to conduct research," Tabby suggested, as they entered the lab.
"I wonder if the Professor finished analyzing those things we gave him?" Leni wondered, as they entered the main lab area, where they saw Professor Cerise, Chrysa and Ren finishing their analysis
"Ah, just in time!" Professor Cerise said, greeting the group.
"Hey Professor… So, did you find out anything about those items we got?" Stella asked.
"Yes, and it's quite the find," Professor Cerise replied, nodding towards Ren, who then pulled up the Legendary Bird Trio, "Leni, Tabby, Polly, Haiku, Stella, the feathers you received from Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno are appropriately named 'Articuno Feathers', 'Zapdos Feathers,' and a 'Moltres Feather.' They each carry a small amount of the power of each Legendary Bird, such as Ice, Electricity, and Fire," he said, returning the feathers to Leni, Stella and Haiku.
"Is that why my feather makes my hands a little tingly?" Stella asked.
"Yes. See, Zapdos is said to live inside of thunderclouds, so it's almost always surrounded by static electricity," Chrysa replied.
"You talked about the Silver Wings that Bobby and his group got from Lugia, but what about those Crystals we got from Entei, Raikou and Suicune?" Rusty asked.
"An excellent question, Rusty," Professor Cerise said, as images of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune were shown on the monitor, "Much like the feathers Leni's group got from the Legendary Birds, the crystals you and your group got from the Legendary Beasts carry only a small amount of their power within them. They're known as 'Volcano Crystals', 'Thunder Crystals,' and an 'Aurora Crystal'," he explained, handing back each crystal back to Rusty, Giggles, and Carlota, as well as giving Ronnie Anne her Silver Wing back.
"Are any of these like the Rainbow Wing that Lincoln has?" Girl Jordan asked.
"Sort of. They do possess hidden, mysterious powers that we do not fully understand yet, but other than that, we don't know much about them. And that's where you come in as Research Fellows," Professor Cerise replied.
"I see… We have to uncover the truths of each of these objects ourselves during our time here to find any conclusive truths," Bobby commented.
"Correct. But for now, you all should go and settle down for the night. You've had quite the first day as trainers," Professor Cerise suggested.
"Sounds good to me. I could do with a little shut eye," Rusty said, as they went to leave, when…
"Hey, what's this?" Ren questioned, as a live report of an attack on the St. Anne.
"We've just been handed an important news bulletin. The luxury cruise liner, the St. Anne, was attacked last night, and was sunk to the bottom of the sea. Witnesses have confirmed the individuals involved was Team Rocket. While everyone was reported to have made it out, several passengers still have not been accounted for. The names of the people sill unaccounted for are as follows: Rito Yuuki, Mikan Yuuki, Celine Yuuki, Lala Staline Deviluke, Nana Astar Deviluke, Momo Belia Deviluke, Haruna Sairenji, Yui Kotegawa, Saki Tenjouin, Mio Sawada, Risa Momioka, Rin Kujo, Aya Fujisaki, Ryoko Mikado, Kenichi Saruyama, Ren and Run Elise Jewelria, Jessie Musashi, James Kojiro, Misty Waterflower, Brock Slate, Leaf Rose, Raigo Haiyama, and Lincoln Loud. According to authorities, they are currently combing the surrounding waters for any sign of them. We'll keep you posted as this story develops. In related news, Lorelei, the Ice Master of the Elite Four has issued a declaration of war against Team Rocket, who are now to be labeled as 'terrorists', rather than a criminal organization," the reporter said. Needless to say, everyone was shocked and horrified to hear about this development.
"Team Rocket not only attack the St. Anne, but now Lincoln's missing too?!" Clyde exclaimed, terrified for his best friend.
"We have to go and help search for them!" Leni exclaimed, worried for her younger brother.
"That goes without saying, Leni," Bobby said.
"I know you all had a long first day as new trainers, but it's clear that your friend needs help. So, I'm issuing an emergency deployment of the Cerise Lab Research Fellows!" Professor Cerise said, as the Royal Woods gang, as well as Goh and Sid, left the lab to go and find Lincoln.
Author's Note: Ok guys, this story will be a collection of short stories that happens parallel to Lincoln's adventure in Kanto Gets Loud. Sorry it took so long for me to get this out, but I've been focused on other stuff that I haven't had much time to work on this story. The next chapter will be happening sometime after they get back to Cerise Labs from their adventures with Lincoln on Dragonite Island, Porta Vista and Maiden's Peak.
