A/N: Hello everyone! I am very happy to post this work as my participation for Thorin's Spring Forge 2025: that is where I disappeared all these months, to participate in this challenge that is currently hosted by Tumblr. You can find them using the adress thorinsspringforge. And you can also find me there under the name mahizli. I hope you will enjoy this somewhat different story - be sure it involved a lot of research, and of course much pleasure.

I am not forgetting The King Of Carven Stone, of course. I think that those who loved that universe might find a few nods and links to that story there :). Thanks for finding this one as well.
Happy Thorin's Spring Forge 2025 everyone, and happy spring in general. Enjoy the reading I hope, Meysun.

Dwarrows of Ered Luin

Introduction

T.A. 2802.

Three years after the Battle of Azanulbizar, King Thráin II has decided to settle in the Blue Mountains (Ered Luin) with what is left of his kin and the Longbeards. War led to grievous losses among the Dwarves, and the long-fragile mind of the King does not seem entirely sound anymore, but his faithful adviser Balin and his daughter Dís are there to keep their settling smooth.

The Broadbeam and Firebeard Dwarves in Ered Luin are guarded in their welcoming: their toll has been heavy too, and King Thrór used to look down on them, deeming them as poor, uncouth and unlikely to serve him in war. King Thráin however does not seem to share this view: he led them in battle and has negotiated a fair blood price with Jónar son of Jarar, who speaks for the Ered Luin Dwarves.

Thráin's now only remaining son Thorin, called Oakenshield since war, has just arrived in Ered Luin with his shield-brother Dwalin. Both have strived tirelessly, safe-guarding caravans of Men between Rohan, Dunland and Gondor to bring back coins for the now brought-low Longbeard Dwarves.

At only 56 years-old (almost 23 in Human equivalent), Thorin's reputation precedes him: a fierce, closed-off warrior who has slain the Pale Orc Azog, but whose beard is cut close to the skin, warding-off questions. Making new friends and getting settled does not appear to be the young Prince's priority. However, when a series of cave-ins threaten the iron-mines' safety, Thorin seems eager to investigate.

It falls to Jóli, son of Jónar and young miner of 46 (around nineteen in Human equivalent), to take Thorin down the mines with his friend Bofur, and a few other Dwarves – a task he accepts reluctantly, thinking very little of battle-deeds, Kings and haughty, overbearing Princelings.

Thus, their story begins.
