Chapter 41: Three Years of Baggage to Unpack
A/N: This chapter is dedicated to my friend Tyler and anyone else with road rage.
The Young Justice team split their attention between watching their friend fight and making sure the crowd of police didn't get any closer. Miss Martian had already linked everyone minus Danny and they were trying to figure out how to help and escape the cops.
Robin internally winced as Danny took another blow to the stomach. That was right where the bullet hit him. The boy wonder gasped as he realized the bullet actually hurt the teen. "Guys Danny shouldn't be bleeding."
Artemis loosely notched an arrow in her boy, getting ready to shoot if something else were to happen. "I don't even see where that bullet came from. None of the officers were aiming from the direction it came from."
Danny's voice cut through the night air. "Its not true!" The blow he landed sent the figure flying into the big circus tent. The halfa was quick to follow, a purple ecto- shield immediately went up blocking everyone from entering, even Miss Martian.
"Why's there a dome up?"
"Isn't Danny's dome green?"
The Gotham police started to advance cautiously now that the aura of fear was mostly contained. Robin rushed to stop them before someone else got hurt. "Please stay back for your own safety!"
A man wearing a stained brown windbreaker smoking a cigar. "Why am I not surprised to see you lot here? Tell your little super powered buddies to go home boy wonder because the Bats ain't the only one who hates metas in Gotham."
The dark haired boy rolled his eyes under his mask. "Nice to see you too Bullock. Unfortunately this is something my team and I are the only ones qualified to handle."
Bullock threw his cigar on the ground and stepped on it. "Don't tell me what the Gotham police are qualified or unqualified for you runt!" The man was about to say more but he paused and stared at the glowing dome. His eyes became vacant as he picked up his litter. "On second thought there's still crime happening in this city. It won't get stopped by us standing here. Let's go boys..."
The team watched from their different locations as the GPD left in unison.
"Umm that was weird right?"
"Definitely."
"We'll worry about that later, lets try to help Danny for now."
Inside the dome Danny was pinned down by who he now suspected was a ghost. "Let me go!"
"All I want is to chat but your being very aggressive about it."
"I don't feel like talking I feel like fighting!" The white haired teen sank into the floor and came back behind the other ghost. He tried to sneak up on the other but only grabbed the cloak. He glared at his surroundings. "Face me you coward!"
A heavy fog prevented anything or anyone from being seen. Danny tried to fly out of it but the fog was dense and reached everywhere.
"I think you should try to remember your past instead of fighting. It'll help you for what's to come."
The rage came back full force. "Why doES EVERYONE THINK THEY CAN TELL ME WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO FEEL!?" He felt a light tap on his shoulder and immediately sent an ecto- blast that hit the bleachers.
"What do you even remember about you past? Your parents must've-"
"BOTH MY PARENTS ARE DEAD!" A hit was landed, where it landed was unknown but there was a satisfying snap and a groan. The fog cleared some and the shield outside pulsed slightly.
A hazy figure appeared in the fog, it was a girl with red hair but he couldn't make out anything more. "I bet you wouldn't recognize your own sister if she were to walk right up to you."
A voice started whispering at the back of Danny's mind. All he heard was dead. They were dead, they were dead, they were- "MY SISTER IS DEAD!" His head was starting to hurt and his powers were starting to wane. He needed to get rid of this guy before something worse happened. He felt tears starting to roll down his face but he didn't care. The figure- no teen appeared in front of of him.
He wore a deep purple semi formal suit that complimented his teal skin and his red tinted green eyes. His snow white hair was half tied up in a bun. "I know I know, I'm stunning. But I'd rather be wearing my cloak."
"Why don't you just SHUT UP AND GO AWAY!" Danny was about to take a breath when he received a punch in the throat.
"Sorry but I can't have you using that power when you don't have proper training." He knelt down at the halfa. "This fog has been rebalancing your hormones so you don't end up hurting your friends. Maybe next time we meet we can just chat." The teen grabbed his cloak and disappeared.
Miss Martian quietly watched the mysterious teen disappear before focusing on her friend. He talked like they both knew each other but Danny either didn't remember or he truly didn't know him. She felt the teen connect to her telepathically and she couldn't help but think that his mind felt a lot like Danny's.
"Talk to both him and your team about his family. I can't reveal who but some of them have been keeping things from him that should've been said when they first found out. He's destroying himself with grief."
After that he was fully gone, not even giving the Martian a chance to respond. She sat down beside her friend who was just staring off with a solemn expression on his face. Not really expecting a response Miss Martian asked, "What happened to you Danny?"
Said teen didn't even look up. His voice was barely a whisper. "It was my fault."
"What do you mean? What was your fault?" She vaguely heard Robin and Aqualad asking if Danny was okay and if they should come in since the shield came down but she ignored them.
"I- I tried to warn them but they didn't listen. Why couldn't I get them to listen!?" A wave of sadness and anger hit the telepath like a truck. "Now my entire family's gone and they aren't coming back!"
