Now, Izuku was hoping that the welcoming ceremony for the U.A. would be different than a typical ceremony. Still, aside from the information and the fact it was U.A., it was relatively normal. A lot of information was being passed on. It was handled through the student portal, which made things difficult as Izuku had learned to tap into the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing him to watch a movie or show it was a taxing affair. A computer would take a lot of time, effort, and energy.
His worries were alleviated when someone walked over and crouched beside him, "Hello, Mr. Midoriya. Do you remember me?" A woman's voice spoke out.
Izuku paused. He had heard it before, but it took him a moment to think, "Professor Kwannon?"
"Yes, correct," Izuku smiled. He could hear the smile in her voice, then activated his quirk. He hadn't done so during the test, wanting to save all his strength for the practical exam, and he nearly fell out of his chair. This woman was stunning; the auditorium was filled with metal, so his picture was astonishingly clear.
She had long hair and an athletic yet hourglass figure; she was wearing a light-colored billowing blouse, dark pencil skirt, and what had to be 5-inch stiletto heels. "I am going to be your accessibility officer and your counselor; after the welcome ceremony, I believe your class will take your quirk assessment test; I will meet you after that so we can have our session."
"What does an accessibility officer do?" Izuku wondered.
"I am here to help you and your teachers to coordinate different media and data that you will need for class, help to set up testing accommodations should they be needed, and ensure that you can access all the things you need to graduate U.A.," Kwannon said. "I have read your file and understand while you may not need any assistance in your testing, it was my understanding that you will need help with the student portal and scheduling certain things in that regard."
"Yes, that would be helpful," Izuku said. "While I recently was able to watch a film or even a show occasionally, it is difficult to maintain, and it tires me out, but as long as I keep practicing, I know it will get easier."
"That is truly remarkable, Mr. Midoriya. Please extend your left hand," Izuku did as he was asked and felt a headphone placed in his hand. "Some slides will be used during the presentation, this will provide close captioning for you." Izuku nodded and put the headphones in place, "Here is the literature for the welcoming ceremony; if there is anything else you need, please let me know."
"Thank you, professor," Izuku said, settling in.
The presentation was very informative; Principal Nezu was very pleasant in welcoming the newest classes to the U.A. and helping to explain different ends and outs of how the university functioned and how things ran. After the ceremony, the class was instructed to head to the locker rooms and get changed for their quirk assessment exam. It was exciting as this would be their first opportunity to show off their talents. Interestingly, their sister class, 1-B, took the exam simultaneously. Of course, there was a buzz as the 1-B students realized that Izuku was blind, but aside from one person making a snide comment, they didn't say much. Little did he know that the scowl on Katsuki's face after the first comment may have had something to do with the rest keeping quiet.
Quirk Assessment Test
As they made their way onto the field, the palatable excitement of the journey they were embarking on was beginning to overflow with students introducing themselves. It wasn't long before the girls emerged with the same excitement. Izuku used his quirk to get a quick glimpse. Still, he had a severe lack of metal to bounce his quirk off of. Still, thanks to the zipper of the U.A. athletic uniforms, there was enough to give him at least some idea of who was around him.
"I will take him from here," Toru said, walking over to take Izuku's hand. "Besides, Set wants you to talk to her," she giggled.
Bakugo rolled his eyes, "Then I better not make her wait too long."
"You need anything?" Toru asked.
"No, there is enough to give me a picture. I can sense some of the metal in the paint on the track, so if I have to run, that may be an issue, but it should be okay," Izuku responded, intertwining their fingers.
"It looks to be the same size we always trained on; if we get you on the third lane, I don't think there will be any issues," Toru replied.
"Is Kyoka okay?" Izuku asked.
"Oh yes, she is just talking with some of the other girls, getting to know them a bit better; they have many questions, you being blind, us three being together," Toru sighed. "Normal things; the girls from 1-B seem nice enough, though they are discussing going to the movies this weekend."
"That sounds nice, you should go," Izuku smiled.
"I will think about it," Toru said. "I may just want to snuggle with my boyfriend that day; you never know."
"Attention," Vlad King, the Supervisor for 1-B, called out, getting everyone's attention. "First, I want all of you to congratulate yourselves on passing the Entrance Exam and being admitted into the Hero Course at U.A.!" Both classes cheered for themselves. "Today, we are going to be conducting a quirk assessment test; this test will help to establish baselines for all of you and help to identify areas you need to work on."
"Yes, all your lives, you have been told that everyone is created equal," Ectoplasm said. "We all know that is not necessarily the case; the diversity in quirks, height, economic background, and other factors make that apparent from a young age. Then some have had to struggle to adapt to their quirks or suffered setbacks that at the time may have made even standing here today seem impossible."
"But every single one of you is standing here today," Vlad continued. "Each of you striving to take the next step in becoming a Pro Hero. One day, your life will depend on the person next to you. Each of you is coming into today looking to be the next number one hero, the very best. There is only room at the top for one Number one, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't push yourselves against each other."
"Compete against each other, compete against yourself," Ectoplasm said. "But don't hold each other down; regardless of what happens after you graduate, you will all be Pro Heroes. All you have chosen to lead a life of protecting others, running into danger where others will run away. That makes you all family. Family fights, shouts, and argues, and sometimes they don't like each other, but the important thing is that the family has each other's back. Don't let some petty squabble spoil that."
"Now, we are going to conduct many of the same physical fitness tests that you have done your whole lives, but today, you will get to use your quirks," Vlad said as the excitement amongst the classes rose. "Some of your quirks will not be of any benefit during these tests. I want you to think outside the box and think of different ways you can use your quirk to gain an advantage. This test is just as much about your physical capabilities as your mental ability to think outside the box."
"Now we are going to begin with the 50-yard dash; Izuku Midoriya, Tsuyu Asui, take your marks," Ectoplasm said.
Toru guided Izuku to the starting line; he was pleased to sense a robot sitting at the end of the track, giving him a clear destination. The girl next to him looked at him curiously as they took their stances, but his image of her wasn't clear.
When the signal to begin rang out, Tsuyu leaped away with her mighty legs propelling herself forward. At the same time, Izuku set a magnetic spick at the end of the track and yanked himself towards it. "3.56" rang out as he crossed the line; he may have pulled himself rather hard, so he stumbled and nearly fell when he landed. Of course, his group flinched, watching him stumble. Pony went to run over, but Kyoka caught her arm.
"He is okay," Kyoka said. "He gets a bit flustered when people react to him stumbling." Pony could only nod.
"6.56" rang out as Tsuyu crossed the finish line. Izuku heard her approach him, "I do not mean to be rude, ribbit, but are you blind?"
"Yes, I am," Izuku said with a smile.
"It is extraordinary that you made it into U.A., kero," Tsuyu said. "My great-grandfather lost his sight in his later years. I would walk with him around the park often, and he would hold onto my arm. If it isn't too presumptuous, would you mind if I escorted you back?"
"No, thank you, Tsuyu, that would be very helpful," Izuku said, holding his hand. Tsuyu took his hand, placed it on her arm, and walked him back to the class.
"Please call me Tsu," Tsu said as they walked. "It was exciting how you got across the finish line so quickly, kero. What is your quirk?"
"Magnetism," Izuku said. "I created a Magnetic Spike at the end of the track and just pulled myself to it."
"That is very smart," Tsu replied. "It was pleasant to meet you; I hope we meet again."
"I am sure we will; thank you again," Izuku said.
"Are you alright?" Kyoka said once Tsu had walked away.
"Yes, just pulled myself a bit too hard," Izuku smiled.
Izuku stood with his friends as the other students were called to race. It was interesting to see that he was just on the edge of the group. Of course, Set, Katsuki, Kyoka, Pony, and Toru talked to him, but he could tell the others with them were struggling. It took them all a few minutes and a few events before they began to relax.
It was one of those times that Izuku felt the impact of his disability. With little metal around, it was difficult for him to "watch" his classmates and how they used their quirks or even what their quirks were. Of course, there was that one boy in his class whose entire body lit up like a Christmas tree when Izuku would tape into the other spectrums. As much as he wanted to watch his friends, he didn't want to over-exert himself before the test was finished.
Aside from the long-distance running, he was able to use his quirk to help him place at the top or near the top in each test. He could sense the others in the class beginning to relax and become more accepting of him as he did so. It made a certain sense to him; he was blind and in the hero course. They were concerned about his competence and whether he could pull his weight. What was truly interesting was Denki Kaminari. Izuku would watch as he lit up; this energy in his body looked like it was about to explode, and Denki was struggling to control it.
Then there was Yukina Toga; the entire class gasped when, before the long jump, she grabbed her skin and simply tore it off; there may have been a scream or two as well. After, her body was a grayish-black substance, and she was still dressed in the U.A. uniform. She ran and bounced towards the launch line as if she was made of rubber, bounding far past the pit and scoring relatively high. She then tore herself again and looked exactly the same as before, prompting all sorts of questions when she returned to the group.
Her quirk was called Omni-Morph; she could shed the outer layer of her skin to reveal a new state or shape underneath. She could copy any specific chemical or elemental formula, turning her body into metal, rock, or diamond. It is also a gas, like some sort of elemental. "It makes getting rid of sweat a breeze as well," Yukina said, earning a laugh.
Chikuchi seemed to be having a rough start but kept getting stronger as the test progressed; it turned out her quirk was Energy Absorption, and that while she could channel energy directed at her, such as Izuku's Magnetism, she could also absorb Kinetic Energy and use that increase her physical capabilities. It wasn't a rapid buildup, though, unless it was in some sort of fight, so it took some time to get going, but once it was, she was a powerhouse.
It was the final test where, after Izuku and Katsuki made a friendly wager, they were stunned when they lost to Ochaco, who negated the gravity on the ball and watched it float up into the sky and disappear. She smiled sheepishly at them as they stared at the sky.
"I don't see it," Izuku said.
"Neither," Katsuki began to say before punching Izuku in the arm. "Dick!"
As the scores were tallied, Izuku placed first in his class, earning some cheers and snide comments. "Congratulations," Momo said as she approached Izuku. "If I can be honest, when you first came into class, I was a bit apprehensive about how things would work, but today, seeing how well you can use your quirk in such a diverse manner, I am no longer apprehensive. I would like to apologize for doubting your place in our class."
"There is nothing to apologize for Momo," Izuku responded. "I get it; seeing a blind kid in the Hero course has to be a shock for everyone in the class. I am sure there would be people who would doubt my place or if I can handle it, but I am glad that there are people like yourself who, though questioned it, didn't speak out against it and instead let my actions speak for me."
"Thank you for your kind words," Momo replied. "I look forward to getting to know you and everyone better throughout our time here."
After they had changed, it was time for them to eat lunch and meet with their counselors; both classes ate together, continuing to get to know each other. The chaos of the cafeteria was a bit much for Izuku. Still, with the quirk assessment over, he was able to use his quirk to help navigate the chaos. He was pleased that Pony was so eager to help, doing her best to be a friend. Once seated, he set his cup and utensils in their proper place and happily ate his lunch, enjoying the chaos as everyone talked about the quirk assessment.
At the end of the day, it was nice to live in an expanded group; the girls from the class had all hit it off. Katsuki and Izuku just smiled and began to joke about how chaotic it would be with Set and Toru meeting Mina, who seemed to have just as much energy and was ready to have fun. The best part was it allowed them to get to know Eijiro Kirishima more; he was Mina's friend and horn buddy; after Izuku got a good look at the boy, he teased Katsuki about having a long-lost brother.
"My mother would kill him," Katsuki replied.
"Then she would make us help dispose of the body," Izuku agreed.
Like the other Kirishima was curious about Izuku and being blind, but he didn't seem to have any reservations beyond the same concerns that Momo expressed about how would he fair in the hero course and like Momo after the Quirk Assessment that was no longer a concern. He didn't press for more information after Izuku told him it was a childhood accident that caused him to go blind, instead just offering his sympathy. Katasuki and Izuku liked the fact that Eijrio, once they had talked, just did his best to fall into conversation with them; there was a bit of uncertainty, of course, when referring to things that were sight dependent, but Izuku's jokes helped to put him at ease.
They were so happy when Mei and Mara joined them to tell them about their day in the Support Course and General Studies and introduce them to the growing circle of friends. Mei, though, grabbed Izuku's arm, pulled up his sleeve, and slapped a metal bracelet with two metal discs on his arm. "Oh, like the focus units," Izuku said.
"Yup," Mei responded. "I was able to fix the release mechanism with the equipment in the lab, and now you will have them all the time."
"Thank you, Mei," Izuku said, giving her a hug, Mei happily returned his gesture. Katsuki explained what was going on to Eijiro, who looked amazed at how a student like them was making these things to help her friend.
"Mei is special," Katsuki said. "Warning though, if she gives you something to test, be warned it might blow up."
"Wait, what about that thing she just put on Izuku?" Eijiro said, startled.
"She is more careful when designing things for him," Katsuki said.
"Oh, okay then," Eijiro said, a bit unsure.
Day Two
Even before the bell rang, there was a palatable buzz in the air; after all, today would be their first step to becoming Pro Heroes. The buzz was heightened throughout the day as all the courses were centered on heroics. Even the paperwork class had the students excited.
The other students seemed more comfortable with Izuku. However, there was still some apprehension in the conversation department. Still, the other students were taking cues from his friends, who would bring Izuku into the conversation to help break the ice and get the ball rolling. Izuku would sit back and smile excitedly, enjoying moving even closer to his and everyone else dream.
The minefield for Izuku was lunch due to how crowded it was. Still, Kyoka simply guided him to the table before rejoining Toru, where they would bring him his food. As soon as the tray was set down, Katsuki and Set set it up in his practiced manner. Even without using his quirk, he could feel the eyes on him from the others as he ate; they weren't malicious gazes but simply curious, something he could understand. Not to say everyone wanted to be friends with him, but that was normal.
After lunch, when the bell rang, the room was silent; as the door slid open, Izuku felt the rush of air as All-Might slid into the room. Of course, Izuku had to trigger his quirk to see the Number One hero for himself. As the class erupted in cheers and adulation, All-Might declared they needed to look the part if they would be heroes, revealing their hero suits.
Izuku sat in the locker room and slowly opened his case, his quirk pulsing rapidly as he lifted his costume with trembling hands. A costume he had designed but had been tweaked by Kyoka and Mei as they added some things to make him more stylish, as they put it.
Izuku slipped the costume on; it was a bit heavier than most other costumes due to the added metallic weave to certain parts. Izuku's costume had dark green gloves, boots, a utility belt, and a collared cape studded with Mei's metallic discs that he could detach; there were other metallic bands on his shoes and gloves that he could use for attacks and defense. An idea given to them during their time with Lorna. This was overlaid on a black body suit, with a black metal helmet with a darkened visor to keep Izuku's scars hidden.
(Imagine Magneto's traditional costume in Green and Black instead of Red and Purple. All other boys' costumes cannon)
Izuku ensured he was turned away as he removed his glasses before slipping on the helmet.
"You good?" Katsuki asked as he fastened his bracers into place another Hatsume Special.
"Yeah, it is just heavy," Izuku said as he enacted a light magnetic field around himself. "Much better."
Girl's Locker Room
Yukino Toga stood staring at her hero costume, a slight dampness in her eyes. Her costume featured reinforced yellow boots and gloves and a yellow utility belt all over a red bodysuit that hugged her slim yet athletic build. Her normally loose blonde hair was tied back neatly.
She closed her eyes and held the small half-heart locket around her neck; the locket read "Sisters Forever." Her sister had given it to her just before she disappeared—a disappearance that her parents seemed to welcome. Yukino thought her sister might have gone away to camp again or was in a special hospital, as their parents had told her that her sister was constantly sick.
Yukino wanted to become a hero to help people, but her main goal was to find her sister. If she could rise to the rank of a high-level hero, she hoped her sister would see her and reach out.
Momo's hero costume consists of a high-collared, sleeveless crimson leotard adorned with silver lines at her waist and around her arms. Initially, the design exposed her skin from her neck to just below her navel. Still, it was modified to include a silver inset shirt covering the opening. This change was made after her original costume design was rejected, prompting her to provide a sample for creating fabric that wouldn't hinder her quirk.
As she looked at the red gloves with silver trim that extended to her biceps, she slipped them on and noticed the fabric remained intact when she created her preferred staff weapon from her hand. Her outfit also included calf-length red boots with no heels and form-fitting pants with openings at the hips, mirroring her leotard and exposing some skin. She wore two gold utility belts around her waist and attached a bracer designed by her mother.
Additionally, she sported a scouter-style headpiece that provided access to her composition information. The cape of her costume was longer and made from titanium-reinforced material, reaching down to her knees.
Toru, like Momo, had been called in, so instead of charging into battle naked and wearing only a pair of gloves and boots, she now donned a white reinforced bodysuit that gradually blended into her skin once she put it on. Overjoyed, Toru jumped for joy and eagerly slipped on the slimmer reinforced boots and gloves before hugging Kyoka.
Chikuchi's costume features a purple headpiece covering her head and neck while exposing her face. Her tousled dark hair contrasts sharply with the dark mask she wears. A long black trench coat serves as her signature piece. Beneath it, she dons a striking bodysuit made of purple and black armor-like material, emphasizing her athletic physique.
At her waist, she sports a black utility belt with a collapsible bo staff crafted from a special alloy that allows her to channel her kinetic energy into her attacks. Several throwing knives made from the same material are tucked away at her back. Black boots and gloves complete the rest of her outfit.
Suijin Yamada was feeling very nervous as she suited up. Her costume was a dark and light blue bodysuit, symbolizing her water connection. The light blue accents adorned her boots, gloves, and chestpiece, while the dark blue covered the rest of her body. She had designed a water emblem displayed on her chest piece and shoulders—a design she had created as a child that had remained with her over the years.
Her mask covered most of her face, exposing only her nose and mouth, with light blue lenses over her eyes. On her back were hydro tanks connected to lines that extended to her hands, allowing her to access the water her quirk relied on.
Kyoka's hero costume features a black leather jacket and a long, salmon-colored shirt with several rips at the collar and hem. She wears black pants and boots equipped with built-in stereos in their shafts.
Additionally, Kyoka has two minor, triangular red paint marks below her eyes, a plain black choker around her neck, and white fingerless gloves. Thanks to Mei's ingenuity, her costume is completed with headphones and two bracelets that function as amplifiers.
(Rest of Girls' costumes cannon)
The girls were all a bit nervous about their costumes; Ochaco was worried that she had made a mistake in not specifying how she wanted it puffy instead of the form-fitting suit she found herself standing in. As the compliments drifted around, it put all their minds at ease, and they were ready to step onto the testing ground and reveal their costumes to the other half of the class.
Heroic Class
The boys were already on the field as the girls made their entrance, a quick use of his quirk; Izuku was happy that his helmet hid the blush. Not only did his girlfriend look very lovely, but the other girls were attractive, especially in their hero suits.
Toru and Kyoka collected their compliments as they looked over his costume. Set was doing the same with Katsuki. All-Might smiled as he remembered that day long ago when he first stepped out in his hero costume, ready to become a Pro Hero. All-Might allowed the class to have a bit of fun before he called them to order.
"Now, to simulate how Heroes will have to randomly team up in the field, I am going to have all of you draw lots from your teams," All-Might said. "After the teams are formed, one team will play the role of the heroes, and the second team will play the role of villains. Our villain team will be holed up in a building protecting a paper Mache bomb. In contrast, our hero team will attempt to enter the building and defeat the villains by rendering them unconscious or bounding their wrists with this capture tape. The heroes can also claim victory by simply touching the bomb. The villain team can win by disabling the heroes or protecting the bomb for the 10-minute time limit."
"I want all of you to remember that regardless of your role, you will assume each of you is a hero in training, and it is important to keep your attacks under control," All-Might continued. "This is just as important as the scenario being played out. While true villains will attack with complete disregard for your safety, innocent bystanders, or property damage, even if it means bringing the building down upon themselves, you, as future heroes, must be aware of all these things at all times, even in the heat of battle."
"Failure to do so will result in your team's immediate failure of the exercise and swift disciplinary action," All-Might said. "Draw your lots; villain teams will have 10 minutes to plan before the start of the exercise. Those not participating in the first round will join me in the observation booth."
Round 1
Heroes: Sero & Niren Vs. Villains: Izuku & Mina
"So um…" Mina said a bit uncomfortably as she approached Izuku. "Do you need me to help you to the building? Should I just shut up? Am I making a total ass of myself?"
Izuku gave her reassuring laugh, "No, with all the metal in the area, I can 'see' very well."
"Cool. Cool," Mina replied. "Sorry if I am making this weird."
"I get it," Izuku said as they started walking; he could see Mina looking at him concerned, watching his steps, wondering if he was going to trip and fall. "Not a lot of people have experience in dealing with someone who is blind, let alone someone who is trying to become a pro hero. We can talk normally; as far as the exercise goes, I will be able to see everything happening, and for conversation, I may not be able to talk about television or movies. Still, I love music and don't care what anyone says. I can dance like no one's business."
Mina laughed; he could see her beginning to relax, "Quick question, so you can see me right now?"
"Yes, it is black and white, but I can see you," Izuku said. "My quirk is Magnetism; I use it to send out a magnetic pulse; it bounces off surrounding metal objects, giving me a 'picture' of my surroundings."
"That is pretty cool," Mina said. "Was it always like that?"
"No. I wasn't born blind. There was an accident when I was a kid that caused me to lose my sight. The damage also destroyed my visual cortex, but luckily, there was a doctor at the hospital who was able to save and trigger it to regrow," Izuku said as they entered the building. "Because of that, it mutated, allowing me to use my quirk to see."
"That is amazing," Mina said. "Well, how do you want to play this?"
"We can do this in a few ways," Izuku said. "I can take those cars on the street and use them to barricade the outside of the doors; I don't know if Sero or Niren can move them out of the way. We can do the same with the lower windows, forcing them to try the fire escape, which we can collapse."
"Okay, that is kind of evil," Mina laughed. "So make it so they can't even gain entry or delay them till they run out of time. Can you really hold all that?"
"It would be tough if we use your acid to melt the metal in the window frames," Izuku said.
"Like welding them in place," Mina smirked, snapping her fingers. "Wait, how do you know my quirk?"
"Toru told me, and I saw it some at the Quirk Test," Izuku answered.
Mina smiled again, "I like it. Let's see if we can just wait them out. Then, if they do get in, we can collapse stairs and other things to keep slowing them down."
"Exactly," Izuku said. "A teacher told me that only a fool seeks a fight when none is necessary."
"Sounds like a cool teacher," Mina said.
"She is."
Sero and Niren were talking, going over their quirks, trying to figure out the best way to attack the villain's base. "I don't think it will be that difficult," Sero said. "If we neutralize Mina, then Izuku should be a piece of cake. How much trouble can a blind kid be?"
"I think simply dismissing him is a huge mistake," Niren said. "He scored at the very top of the class yesterday."
"In exercise tests, this is combat," Sero replied. "We got this man. Just relax. We are going to dominate!" Sero was grinning ear to ear. "Do you really think he is with those girls? I don't know about the invisible one, but that one with the jacks and purple hair is hot!"
"I fail to see how that matters in any way, shape, or form," Niren responded. "We need to focus on the exercise as I don't believe this will be the cakewalk you envision. He stated yesterday that his quirk is Magnetism, which means he can manipulate metal. We are going into an area that is covered in metal."
"Don't sweat it," Sero said, flexing an arm, "We got this!"
They did not, in fact, have it. When the buzzer rang, cars were immediately pulled from the street, blocking all the doors. When the heroes attempted to access the first-floor windows, they found them all reinforced, blocking their entry. As they approached the fire escape, it collapsed in a heap; all the while, Mina and Izuku were talking at a desk.
"So let me get this straight, you kissed them both, made some crazy confession, and then passed out!" Mina said, wiping a tear. "When you woke up, they both agreed to be your girlfriends?" Izuku nodded; although the helmet covered most of his face, Mina could tell he was still blushing. "Well, you got lucky there, mister."
"Tell me about it," Izuku said. "I blame Katsuki; he was sweating me about it."
"How was he sweating you?" Mina said, holding her stomach. "You even said that all he said was "Hey, Izuku."
"It was all in his tone," Izuku protested; Mina nearly fell out of the chair, causing him to start laughing.
"What are they doing?" Mina said after catching their breath.
"Trying to break in," Izuku responded. "IT is a good idea. They will try and use a fire hydrant as a flail, but I will keep it in place or yank it off course."
Sero was steaming by the time the buzzer rang, signaling their failure. The cars all moved as Izuku and Mina walked out like old friends. Niren congratulated the winning group and asked Izuku and Mina questions about how they could fortify their position. Hence, as they walked back to the control booth.
Round 2
Heroes:Toru & Suijin VS. Villains: Mineta & Tenya
Mineta & Tenya
Due to the extensive modifications performed by Izuku and Mina during their run, the building was shifted to an identical one to even the playing field.
Tenya was not very keen on his role as a villain, while Mineta didn't seem to care, expressing how he was just happy that at least he could see one of the girls on the hero team, and she was cute. Tenya sighed, "I understand that it is inevitable that some would seek out romance, but we should be more focused on their abilities rather than how 'cute' you may perceive them to be."
"Look, man, you can be here to be all whatever, but I am here for the hotties!" Mineta said, smacking his lips.
"If you only judge them by their looks, you will fail to understand their true potential and power," Tenya replied. "Now, would you like to discuss strategy?"
"I say we lay in wait, then at the last moment, we spring out. I will cover them in my balls before we tie them up," Mineta said with a bit of drool dripping from the corner of his mouth.
"Not the worst idea, but I suspect there is another reason for such a plan," Tenya said as he began to clear things out of the center of the room, which gave him clear paths.
"Hey, what do you think of the blind dude?" Mineta said helping with some smaller items.
"Midoriya? Well, I would be lying if I didn't say that I was concerned when he first entered the class with his disability, but he had to have passed the same tests we all did. He proved himself capable during the Quirk Assessment and today," Tenya said.
"I heard he was given a different practical exam than everyone else," Mineta replied. "Special treatment; I am going to lay some balls in the hall and on the stairs to try and slow up the heroes before they get to us."
"You shouldn't spread unfounded rumors," Tenya chastised. "There is no indication of such a thing. Also, I heard that Tsunotori stated they were in the same testing area."
"Fine," Mineta sighed as he waived the lecture off and stepped out. "It's not like he set the exam record or anything."
Toru & Suijin
"So you can control water?" Toru exclaimed. "That is cool."
"Thank you," Suijin replied. "I need water around. That is the biggest drawback."
"Well, you have those tanks on your costume," Toru said. "Can you detect water?" Suijin nodded.
"There is water running through the building in the pipes," Suijin smirked. "So I can draw on that to provide extra firepower; if it is underground, that is a bit harder to tap into. Of course, open pools or such are the best. And you are invisible? Is it all the time?"
"Yes, I haven't found a way to turn it off yet, but Izuku has found a way to disrupt it, so that has been nice," Toru replied.
"Do you have any ideas of how you want to tackle this?" Suijin asked, looking at the building.
"Well, Minoru has those strange balls that he throws, and Ida is a speedster, so I am betting they are going to use the largest room to defend the bomb," Toru said, rubbing her chin.
"Minoru will probably lay some of those orbs as traps; I noticed they are sticky and bouncy," Suijin added.
"I will recon a bit ahead of you," Toru said. "If you can bring all the water to the top floor when we encounter them, you can hit them with a deluge and send them flying while I tag the bomb."
"That sounds like a good plan," Suijin said. "Let's win this thing!"
When the exercise began, they made a quick entry into the building, with Toru taking the lead and moving ahead, not too far but just enough to be able to scout. It was something she had learned in Italy with Stick, how to not move too far ahead of her group, as to not get caught out or not be able to respond if they were ambushed. Toru secretly hoped that once during this class, she, Kyoka, Izuku, Set, and Katsuki would all get put on a team together.
As they made their way up higher, the heroes came across some of Mineta's orbs. They were in the middle of the hall, but some were in the corners or shadows. Once they reached the top floor, there were everywhere; Suijin created a blade of water to cut some free. She paused, created a second stream more similar to a tendril, and started pulling them along with her.
"Weapons," Suijin whispered over the mic. Toru nodded; as the door neared, Suijin told her to hold back. Toru tilted her head but fell back. "I bet they are more of those orbs on the other side. I want to blow the door and try to take them by surprise. I will send a blade low to clear any orbs you can follow."
Toru smiled; it was a good plan, "Great Idea, on your mark."
Suijin took a deep breath. Everything had been going well, but she wondered how long it would last. How would the others react when they found out she was the daughter of villains. Villains that had graced the most wanted charts battled Endeavor and All-Might and were responsible for the death of innocent people. She didn't know her parents were villains; she was primarily raised with her grandmother, as her parents had to "travel for work." It wasn't until they were captured that she was exposed to what they were. It was hard as she learned that fact, this whole other part of her parent's life. When her parents came to town, it was fun, love, and laughter. Now knowing that side of her parents that selfness, and some acts that could only be construed as evil. Her mind would race to things in her room, things she had wanted that her parents would buy her, and things that had all been paid for in blood. Her parents sent her grandmother monthly money, putting a roof over her head and food in her belly. The thought had made her sick; she threw up and had a hard time eating and even sleeping. It all made sense why she would talk about being a hero. Her parents would tell her that her talents lay elsewhere and her quirky reliance on water being present was too big of a handicap.
After the revelation, Suijin was able to come to grips with the truth, and it strengthened her resolve to become a hero. It was driven by the fact that she was paying a measure of penance, trying to atone in some fashion for the sins of her parents and the lives that they had ruined. Suijin understood that she was not responsible for their crimes, but it didn't mean that others wouldn't hold her accountable or cast stones at her. It was hard to know that whenever they spoke her name, there would be an asterisk or a "yea but" that went along with it. She hoped that maybe by the time she had her own children, she could spare them from carrying that burden. Before that, she had to become a pro-hero.
Mineta and Tenya knew that the hero team was getting close; they weren't expecting a waterblade slipping in from under the door and cutting a swath through the room, sending them scrambling for cover. The door came following after being knocked off its hinges by a giant water fist. Toru slipped in during the chaos as Suijin emerged. "Your days are numbered villains!" Suijin declared a smile, tugging at the corner of her mouth. "I will accept your surrender!"
"Never shall we surrender, hero," Tenya cackled. Tenya charged, trying to close the distance; Toru used her stealth to launch a sneak attack. She leaped through the air, her arm wrapping around Tenya's neck. As she spun past, she yanked him to the ground, his head bouncing hard off the floor.
Mineta bounced off a nest of his balls, launching himself towards Suijin, his eyes wild. Suijin raised an arm, and a jet of water came rushing out. Mineta's eyes widened as it shaped like a giant water serpent. It crashed into Mineta, sending him flying away and crashing into a wall.
Toru hit the ground and started to sprint towards the bomb; Tenya turned towards the sound of her footsteps. Tenya pushed off the ground, ready to try and knock her off course when a water leash yanked him off the ground and sent him flying away. Toru slid, grabbed the bomb, and hoisted it into the air.
"HERO TEAM WINS!" All-Might called out.
Round 3
Heroes:Kyoka & Denki Vs. Villains: Momo & Awase
"Hey, I am Denki Kaminari," Denki grinned as he and Kyoka took the field. He had tried to work up the courage to talk to her while the other two tests were going on. Still, in the end, he had just sat with Mineta till his turn came up, then with Sero, who was somewhat dejected after his disastrous trial. It may not have helped his case too much as he and Mineta were talking about the ladies more than they were about the exam, and there may have been some trash-talking.
"Jiro," Kyoka responded.
"So I was wondering if, after school today, you wanted to grab a coffee or something? You know, get to know each other better," Denki said.
"That would be a hard pass; I have a boyfriend," Kyoka shook her head; there may have been a slight eye roll.
"Who?" Denki responded.
"Izuku," Kyoka said.
"That blind kid?" Denki said without thinking. The death glare from Kyoka nearly stopped his heart. "I just thought you were good friends, but I didn't think you were together."
"Why is that?" Kyoka said, her voice growing cold.
"I mean, I just thought you could do better, you know," Denki said, continuing to dig his grave.
"Someone like you?" Kyoka said as the heavy equipment came in to aid Denki in hole-digging.
"Yeah!" Denki's face lit up.
"First, not if the fate of the human race depended on it," Kyoka's finger was pointed at his face. "And I would never, I mean never even consider even being friends with someone who makes fun of others or talks shit behind their backs where they don't think anyone can hear them."
"I wouldn't…" Denki started to lie.
One of Kyoka's jacks floated up, "The benefit of my quirk is exceptional hearing. So when you and your little buddies are whispering in the corner about who has the best tits or the best ass or are making fun of someone for a disability, I hear it all." Denki's eyes went wide. "So, Kaminari, let's just focus on the assignment. I am not clear on what Awase does, but from the Quirk test, Momo seems able to create objects, like that scooter and cannon."
"Yeah, sure," Denki said, stepping back. "I store an electric charge and can disperse it. It works better through contact, but recently, it has gotten stronger, and I can create lightning."
"How is the control?" Kyoka asked.
"A bit difficult," Denki said. "But getting better."
"Getting better as in should, I stay out of the way or don't need to worry?" Kyoka pressed.
"Stay out of the way," Denki said, crestfallen. He had been chosen as the successor to All-Might, and he was destined to be the next number-one hero. He couldn't control One for All at all. It would overwhelm him and threaten to explode his limbs off his body. It wasn't until the entrance exam that he could channel it into that lightning strike that destroyed the zero pointers. There was that moment when everything seemed to move in slow motion. It was frustrating, All-Might told him that he had been able to use it full strength from the get-go, and here Denki was struggling to use it all. Now, this cute girl was telling him that his chances were less than zero and that a blind kid was a better option than him.
Denki didn't have a personal problem with Midoriya; Mineta pointed out the blind kid at the exam. They shouldn't have laughed about it, but it was odd to see a blind person trying to take the hero course exam. After Mineta, Sero, and he found out they passed and would be in the same class, he tried to put One for All out of his head for a bit and just enjoy the experience. Yes, Denki wanted to be a great hero. Yes, he wanted to be the next number-one hero, but he also wanted a girlfriend. I wanted to experience romantic love, and despite the weird turn, everything took a mecum of normal school experience. He never had any luck talking to girls; he was 0-34 in asking girls out. He was hoping that would change, but he was apparently thought that objectifying the girls was not the best route to take. It had undoubtedly soured his chances with Jiro, and if she told the others, then he was cooked. I should focus on controlling One for All, and then everything else will fall into place.
Unfortunately for them, they were up against Momo, who, along with Awase, had used their time to prepare for their uninvited guests; as soon as the heroes made an entrance, the alarm system began to blare. Stairs had been turned into ramps coated in a slippery substance, making their advancement slow and difficult. Doors were fused thanks to Awase; when they finally made it to the villains with barely a minute to spare, 12 bombs were visible. Denki, wanting to impress, tried his money move of 1.5 Million indiscriminate shocks, only for Momo to use an insulated blanket to protect her team. With Denki out of commission due to overloading his brain, Kyoka did the best she could. She put off a good fight thanks to her training and even tagged five bombs before she was pinned and captured.
"Fake bombs, that was evil, Momo," Kyoka said as they helped her to their feet. "With the alarm blaring and no internal mechanism, I had no way of figuring out the real bomb in time."
Momo smiled, "That was the plan."
"You put up a good fight, though," Awase said, his face swelled up from a few punches Kyoka had landed. "Your training must have been intense."
"Thanks," Kyoka smirked. "I had the opportunity to train with some great people. It has paid off."
"I would like to hear about it sometime," Momo said. "Maybe over tea?" In the last part, Momo has a hopeful twinkle in her eye.
"Sounds lovely," Kyoka said, Momo's face brightened.
"You will join us won't you Awase?" Momo said her teammate stopped, a bit shocked. "I couldn't have pulled off my plan without you."
Awase blushed some, "Sounds good." Denki waited for an invitation that did not come.
Round 4
Heroes: Katsuki & Pony Vs. Villains: Yukina & Eijiro
Katsuki was ready to show his stuff by the time the third round ended; he had started talking with Pony some as the American girl had come to sit and chat with the group once Izuku had returned. Katsuki liked Pony, the girl who was a bit excitable but who fit in with Set and Toru. But most of all, she genuinely cared about Izuku and knew how to approach him. When he learned that Pony had a grandparent who was blind, it made a bit of sense. After Izuku had flexed in the first round, Katsuki was excited to show what he could do.
The wild card was Yukina; he knew she could transform into rubber, but was that all she could transform into, or was there more. Eijiro could harden his form, making him a great tank; if Yukina could do the same, this could turn into a battle of attrition. Katsuki was never more thankful for all his training with Alex in focusing his blasts to add much-needed penetration against armored targets. Pony and he had a very straightforward plan of moving fast and hitting hard as Yukina and Eijiro would wait or come at them full-on.
When the buzzer rang and they came in the door, it would be a head-on approach. Katsuki kicked open the door, and Eijiro charged him head-on; hardening his upper body, he managed to tank a direct shot from Katsuki as he tackled him outside the building. Both boys were in tremendous physical shape. Eijiro may have been physically stronger, but Katsuki had been better trained.
Pony jumped back and fired her horns at Yukina as she charged out; it was disconcerting to see the girl rip her skin off, revealing a heavily armored form underneath. Pony's horns bounced off harmlessly as Yukina speared Pony in the gut and took her to the ground. The weight and force of the impact drove the air from Pony's body as Yukina moved to press her advantage.
Katsuki flipped Eijiro over and off of him, rolling to his feet, and fired off two more blasts as Eijiro charged. The first targeted the upper body, which Eijiro grunted through that blast, but the second targeted his legs. That part of Eijiro was not hardened, and he went down face first, grabbing at his legs. Katsuki turned and fired again, this time at Yukina, who reflexively got an arm up to shield her face. The blast had little effect, but it distracted Pony enough to lift Yukina up enough to scramble free.
Pony attempted to make a dash past Yukina, but Katsuki fired again. Yukina ran through the blast and grabbed Katsuki. Katsuki grabbed Yukina, trying to tear himself free, but her skin tore off in his hand, revealing a diamond form underneath; Yukina used the moment of surprise to land a vicious head-butt. Pony was almost in the building when Eijiro tackled her from behind, wresting her arms behind her, trying to capture her. Pony managed to wrestle one of her arms away and threw a back elbow that collided with his hardened form, making the girl cry out in pain, allowing Eijiro to slip the capture tape around her wrists.
"Pony Tsunotori has been captured and is eliminated," All-Might called out.
Katsuki was on his back with Yukina, landing some good but undisciplined shots; Katsuki couldn't take advantage of her mistakes, and how could he even apply enough force to choke out someone made of diamonds? With Pony's capture, he must get out of her before Eijiro joins the fight. He placed his hands on Yukina's eyes and let go with all he had; it stunned the diamond girl enough to let Katsuki break free. He spun past Eijiro's attempted grab and fired a blast at his back to send him stumbling.
Katsuki raised his arm and pulled the pin on his gauntlet but aimed it at the ground before Yukina and let the blast rip; the explosion was immense, as was the resulting hole in the ground it created, making Yukina fall in. Katsuki spun and raced into the building with Eijiro in hot pursuit, he was able to create distance by blowing up some of the stairs and using his quirk to fly up to the next level. He burst into the top floor, and sure enough, there was the bomb; he slid and managed to tag it before time ran out, securing the victory. He knew he would get talking about property destruction, but it was his only way out. He didn't want to fire directly at Yukina diamond form or not. He could have done serious damage; this was training, not an actual villain fight.
Round 5
Heroes: Setsuna & Chikuchi Vs. Villains: Fumi, Dark Shadow & Ochaco
Setsuna Tokage loved all things bright and cheerful; what Setsuna did not like was horror. Nowhere in the exam description was it stated that she and her partner Chikuchi were going to be part of a horror film. Things had started a bit strange even before Chikuchi had Setsuna start slapping her body. It made more sense after Chikuchi explained her quirk of Kinetic absorption. When the buzzer began, they burst in, ready for a fight; they encountered darkened hallways, flickering lights, and ominous sounds coming from just around the corner but seemingly forever out of sight.
Setsuna is not proud of this fact, but when Dark Shadow burst out of the darkness like a horror movie monster, she screamed and may have jumped back. Chikuchi, though, was able to react a bit better. She swung her bo staff at the sentient quirk, the tip glowing with a kinetic charge; when it exploded, it seemed to not only hurt Dark Shadow, but the sudden burst of light sent the quirk scrambling away.
Once Set regained her composure, they had been given confidence that Chikuchi could hurt and drive Dark Shadow back at the very least when the next attack came, and more attacks did come. Chikuchi did all she could to keep building up her kinetic absorption, even taking a few hits from Dark Shadow. However, they hurt, allowing her to channel more energy, which the girl began to flood into her body, increasing her physical abilities. Set started to send body parts racing ahead to spring traps as they finally made their way to the villain's lair.
When they came bursting in, an avalanche of furniture and crates came crashing down on them courtesy of Ochaco. The villains felt victory was in their grasp. Chikuchi charged the ground under them and exploded, sending them all to fall to the floor below, except Set, who broke apart and scrambled to find the bomb. Dark Shadow came tearing out of the hole to stop her. Still, thanks to all her training, she could break apart even more and slip around the quirk till she located the bomb and secured victory for their team. Chikuchi had to be helped from the building as she had been injured in her attack, but the girl was smiling and happy about their victory.
"Wow, girl, that was unexpected," Ochaco said, walking beside Chikuchi and helping the girl leave the building. "Your quirk is something else."
"Thanks," Chikuchi blushed. "It takes time to build up, but I hope to figure a way around that someday."
"I understand; all quirks have some drawbacks," Ochaco replied. "I get nauseous if I float too long; I was about ready to puke when you guys burst in."
"So what you are saying is we should have waited a bit longer," Set chuckled.
"Your counterattacks were very effective," Fumi said. "I enjoyed this very much. I would look forward to our next trial."
"Hell yeah," Dark Shadow added, earning a laugh.
They all returned to the control booth as All-Might gave everyone a brief breakdown of their fights and told them a detailed report would be in their emails by morning; he congratulated them on their successful first Heroic class before he sent them off to get changed.
Once alone, he let go of his muscled form, leaving and sitting back in his chair. All of the students performed beyond his expectations, with some showing signs of professional training. He would have to look into that further, but he had a promise to keep. "Hello, Hisashi," All-Might said into his phone. "I just wanted to let you know that your son did great in his first heroics class. I would happily forward you the video; it is not a problem. Have a good day."
All-Might sat back, pulling up the video and audio of Denki's trial; the boy still had not been able to harness One for All. It was disconcerting, as was the audio of the conversation between him and young Jiro. He would have to pull Denki aside, talk about him, and add extra training.
